[RIP] the abjured.
hey man, i have credit cards. i’ll pay just to be able to it in a dueling server while i wait for my 15 minute qpops.
i get that it would be like that due to it being tied to the main hand, but i still think that there should be some quipyness to it as well since you do NEED a pistol to use the skill. oh well. time to transmute my dagger…
the skill shadow shot involves you shooting your target. yet if you have quip equipped as your pistol, the skill has no legendary effects. Arena net. please change this.
in my opinion, a pretty good call, the trait was fun while it was bugged, though i never used it in pvp, and for those of you who doubt engineer’s damage in pve without this trait, if you take glass cannon, engi can get up to 17k damage per second, which, is higher than guardian with the feel my wrath bug, so don’t count it out of the coming meta just yet.
p.s. if you rely purely on grenade barrage for damage in pve you probably shouldnt be playing engi to begin with.
I think we should all focus on the most important bug currently in the game that effects guardians, and that is, the incorrect placement of the cosmetic aegis on a character when aegis is reapplies and weapons are drawn. Anet, guardian is a very ascetically pleasing class, please fix this!
Here’s my new Angelic Hammer build. it’s a meditation dps build variant for spvp and roaming.
so, first I’ll do the gear, the amulet I use is the new marauder amulet for the extra vitality to help live through the predicted new condition heavy builds in the coming meta, and the weapons I run are hammer, with sword focus on swap. I take fire and air sigils on my sword and focus and air and energy on my hammer, and Lyssa runes for extra precision and to turn renewed focus into an extra condition cleanse.
the utilities for this build are litany of wrath, judge’s intervention, smite condition, contemplation of purity, and of course, renewed focus. I know most of you guardian veterans prefer shelter over litany of wrath because of the previous cast time having a questionable duration and feeling like it was too situational in order to get a full healing effect from it, but I feel like this build makes it really shine, and that the reduced cast time makes this skill actually viable in competitive play.
traits for this build are as follows:
Radiance: Right handed strength, wrath of justice, perfect inscriptions.
why these traits when I’m not using any signets? well, I think of this specialization line as a sort of “panic strike” build for the guardian. Ideally with this build, you want to open with hammer and not actually activate your virtue of justice unless you are in sword to land an entire zealot’s defence (also because the hammer has an immobilize skill to begin with so it would be a waste of a very strong, though, not too long cooldown.) additionally, this set up allows you to take sword instead of scepter, which i favor for guardian.
Valor: Smiter’s boon, Strength in Numbers, Monk’s focus.
monk’s focus i took, obviously, because this is a meditation build and it needs sustain to balance out the glassiness. strength in numbers i took because nothing else really worked. what is really special about this specialisation is the Smiter’s boon trait. if you use litany of wrath as your heal skill, you are effectively using two meditations at once, (litany of wrath and smite condition), the second, traited smite condition operated seperately from your slitted smite condition and benefits from the monk’s focus trait, making litany of wrath an incredibly strong offensive heal skill on team fights and 1v1s, and has the potential to bring you from an inch away from downed state to full if used with a hard hitting offensive combo (the damage from the second smite condition will not contribute towards the healing of litany of wrath due to the cast time, unfortunately)
Virtues: unscathed contender, absolute resolution, indomitable courage.
I didn’t change this line from the previous meta despite glacial heart being an option for this specialisation. I felt that the condition removal will probably be more valuable. i would also like to point out that indomitable courage is now a stun break AND stability stacks, making this trait a no brainer for anyone who still wants to run a hammer medi dps build.
feel free to test and use this build how you wish, feedback and constructive criticism is greatly appreciated!

beautiful idea, love it!
as a guild leader this is EXTREMELY determential to my ability to actually be a guild leader. Anet, you should probably look into fixing existing bugs like this before you think about releasing new outfits. p.s. balth outfit looks great. good job.
I don’t get this whole idea of sword for elemenists. It just doesn’t suit them, there is a reason why they have no melee weapons and have that mage image. Look at GW1 concept art and characters.
you must not have played gw1 very much because eles can use sword in gw1. also, i dont know why everyone is speculating on what the skills could be. they have already been datamined and posted on reddit.

had a few duels with another S/d thief after the patch hit and each duel was literally us dancing in circles for about 10 mins per duel until one of us ran out of initiative,( that one of us more often than not being the other thief due to the fact that we were both running 20066 except i had swapped sleight of hand for hastened replenish and powerful inertia for assassin’s reward).
Anet had said they wanted to make dodging less prevalant in s/d thieves, but instead gave us a straight 9 dodges, in the prepatch 20066 meta not counting dodges from vigor, and on top of that, made our unblockable hardhitting attack inaccessible while your opponent is blocking… so…. please, if my confusion is misguided in this matter, i’d appreciate some logical explanation on how this change makes any sense. until i receive said explanation, i continue to say “….lolwut…”
p.s. i think Anet is confused. perhaps they should level-gate their access to balance patches until they get more experience.
Thief is kitten near brokenly overpowered right now. It is neck and neck between Thieves and Rangers to see who came out most a head this patch.
Granted, we are still early and things could shift, but right now Thieves are in an extremely good place.[/quote]
i sincerely hope you’re joking. the ONLY thing thief still has going for it now is venomshare builds in tpvp, which, basically turns them into an invisible buff station. the two best weapon sets for pvp have been trashed almost beyond playability, and s/p in pve is now about 30% less effective for aoe blinds for stacking for your dungeon/fractal parties due to the nerf to black powder. and if you think that’s not that bad, then let me put this into perspective for you. i played necro for 8 months from when i picked up gw2 last year, till i wanted some cleave and power damage worth a kitten, so i rolled warr, found it to be far too mundane for my liking, rolled thief, loved the s/p, got full med ascended and everything, started running high lvl fractals with my guild, know the class pretty well by now, but i can tell you, as of this patch, i cant justify bringing my thief back into any dungeon with my guild because i know that i can no longer bring enough group utility and support that i should be able to. so, untill then, i will be rerolling a new necro until then because, my original first love, the necromancer finally has that cleave i feel it needed. it’s just a shame it had to happen by destroying another great class in the process. (alternatively, i could roll a s/d ranger, but you couldn’t pay me enough legendaries to go through the new leveling process.
TLDR – thieves got destroyed by this patch. you’re wrong.
As far as thieves go do you really think it was fair you could steal and attack at the same time that also led into an unblock able attack that stole boons and then just disengage instantly… where the kitten is the counterplay to that.
well, for one, s/d was VERY weak against heavy condi pressure. seeing as this is a necro forum , i’m sure the concept of providing such pressure is all to familiar?
second, the changes to s/d were made because anet felt that they wanted dodging to be “less prevalent” for s/d, when all they managed to do was give us 9 dodges with the previous meta, not counting vigor, and a burst that is virtually inaccessible due to the changes to flanking strike. (i.e. flanking strike being blocked will NOT proc larcenous strike, which is unblockable. i don’t care what class you play, that MUST seem a bit daft)
third point, on the subject of steal, it’s an instant cast, meaning, SHOULD be able to be used while channeling a skill with a cast time, since, for example, as any necromancer worth their salt can tell you, Death shroud’s 3rd ability, a fear (the hardest hitting condi in the game when traited with terror) can be used, without fail, while channeling any other ability, because it is an instant cast. "OH BUT WAIT! " you say, “FEAR DAMAGING YOU IS OUR THING, WE ARE NECROS, OF COURSE WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO THAT!” oh, but then again, a thief shouldn’t be able to steal? please.
then again, one could argue that DS’s no3 fear is able to be dodged, well, news flash, if you didn’t know, so can steal, so, don’t even go there.
the trait in question only applies to weapon skills from daggers. utilities and elites are NOT affected by dagger training or pistol mastery because they don’t require wielding said weapons to use.
