Just making sure we realise that [RUN] and friends coming over to join us did us no good whatsoever, or something, I guess.

There is always a chance. There is only no chance when everyone gives up. You don’t need external motivations to fight. If you do, that’s a sad state of affairs.

Let server A accumulate their points and climb up the ranks, and let servers B and C get left behind and fall down the ladder, down where they belong.

Everyone should bear in mind though that since Sea of Sorrows’ server population is constantly “full”, it may take some time for a guild to slowly trickle their way in.

It shouldn’t be a problem in the long run since people are server-hopping all the time.; people are leaving Sea of Sorrows all the time, whether to move to a better WvW server, to join friends in other servers, or just to look for servers with unbugged skill events for world completion.

Red has a jumping puzzle near their spawn that leads up a very high cliff, from which you can treb mendon.

Blue has a jumping puzzle tower outside their keep from which they can catapult Quentin and (just barely) treb the southeast corner of Stonemist Castle’s outer wall.

I took those screenshots, and i created the reddit post, but it seems like other people are more upset about it than I am.

What maximumpanda said is correct. SoS didn’t lose to ET because of spying or sabotage. We’re not that good and our population is heavily imbalanced. Even without free server transfers ET would’ve wiped the floor with us anyway.
Nobody even bothered leaving the spawn from the sides because there were at most 15 of us there at that time and all the nearest supply camps were also heavily camped and defended.

I personally have no problems with RUIN transferring servers to recruit more oceanic/asian players.
Server transfers were made free for a reason, and RUIN noticed their lack of oceanic/asian presence earlier on and took initiative by using their match against us to recruit; that’s pretty clever.
And everything Archaos said in the chat that night was correct. SoS is not a WvW focused server and anyone who’s passionate about it would’ve done better to transfer to ET so they can enjoy WvW more and ET becomes more powerful; it’s win-win.

I don’t have any irrationally loyalty to SoS myself, but guesting isn’t implemented yet and my friends are still here so i couldn’t bring myself to transfer just for WvW.

WvW is far from dying, as evident from the battleground queues.

You may not like it, and many like you may not like it, but more still enjoy it a lot and don’t take it too personally that there’re always queues during peak hours.

Outnumbered, Why do we get a PvE buff in a PvP area?

I seriously don’t understand the logic behind Outnumbered buff. How is getting EXP & magic find buff in a war zone going to help balance the current situation? I personally rather get 1% toughness than 3000000% ExP + Magic find in WvW when we are outnumbered.
I find it insulating and in a way it is telling us “ops we are outnumbered! lets go kill some pixels and get some lotz”
I think the following need to be changed:
1- Don’t encourage PvE in WvW by given the outnumbered side a full PvE buff.
2- Replace the current buff with a small Toughness + Health buff. Does not have to be anything game breaking, 5%-10% is enough.

You do realise that all the events that happen in WvW (stop caravan, capture tower, defend keep, capture orb) all give PvE rewards..?

You also do realise that killing enemy players gives you PvE loot?

They will never make the outmanned buff give any kind of strength buff, it’s to motivate, not to assist.

This means a level 30 in blues has about 700+ less attributes than a level 80 in exotics. Which is why they deal 4k’s to you and you deal 300’s to them. Obviously as you level up this discrepancy decreases, as the gap between your gear and theirs gets smaller and smaller.

This is incorrect.

I had a lv20 guardian wearing best-in-slot toughness armor for his level.
When he was scaled to lv80 in WvW, his toughness shot up to 2500.
In fact, even after i removed a few armor pieces, it stayed at 2500 which i concluded was some kind of stat-scaling limit or cap.
I switched a few pieces out for +vitality armor and came to 2500 toughness and 1800 vitality.

That guy was lv20.

What you should do is look for the highest ranked server in the lowest ranked group.

As of right now, that would be Ferguson’s Crossing, who are freely stomping Devona’s Rest and Kaineng both.

It seems that merging SoS and TC will indeed benefit everyone and turn us into a powerful unstoppable juggernaut.

I propose that everyone transfer to SoS instead because “Sea of Sorrows” sounds cooler.
“Tarnished Coast” sounds dirty.

Something of that nature that adds into the already existent “Outnumbered” buff. The karma experience boosts it gives are great but overall not helpful against the other teams.

I’ll never grow bored of correcting this misconception.

It’s not helpful because it’s not meant to be helpful.
The Outmanned buff is not meant to help you, it’s meant to motivate you.

Look around, no such mechanic exists in WvW that tries to help the losing side or hinder the winning side.

Do people not realise, though, that you don’t need to be the top-ranking server to enjoy WvW bonuses, just the top server in your group?

Ferguson’s Crossing who’s steamrolling Devona’s Rest and Kaineng is enjoying just as much WvW bonuses as (if not more than) Henge of Denravi.

In fact, since FC is still 100 points behind Borlis Pass, it’s possible that it’ll still stay in the lowest group and get to steamroll DR and KN for another week, enjoying full WvW benefits for one whole other week.

It is simply a motivation for you to do something since if you do manage to pull something off, you get rewarded more.

If you’ve been paying attention to the updates you will notice that arenanet slowed down server transfers and eventually you will have to pay to transfer.
And the solution to the problem is to avoid the problem? Not to solve it?

It’s a cost that you as a player have to choose to pay if you wanted to WvW so badly. It’s ruthless.

There’s already an ‘outmanned buff’ disproving your fair/balanced theory.

But the outmanned buff doesn’t make you stronger.
Instead of motivating you to do something by making things easier, the outmanned buff tries to motivate you by offering more rewards.

Those 2 statements just fly in each others face.

I didn’t make the first statement.

Assuming its even working, assuming there’s not broken mechanics, assuming what the PR machine is telling us is true (WTB Flyhack?)

You’re right, it’s not quite working yet. ELO ranking systems take time to stabilize, and they haven’t even implemented world transfer costs yet to let the servers sort themselves out, population wise.

Sure, play something else. There are plenty of people who care enough about WvW to pay those costs. If everyone who cares about WvW leaves your server, your server will naturally fall down in ranks to be matched against other servers that are about equally as weak in WvW.

If you server is so powerful that you have no game to play, and you simply must play the game, you are free to transfer to a lower population server and play your game. If you don’t want to because you don’t want to lose your “winning” status, WvW says “too bad”.

Be on a strong server and not play, or move to a weaker server and play.

The problem is self-fixing, the servers are self-balancing.

I have to disagree with this statement completely because 1 vs 100, the 1 will always lose unless you go super saiyan. Now if the outmanned buff could make you go super saiyan that would own.
What’s the point of having a persistent game if no one is actually playing it? If this is a continuous problem people are just going to quit gw2 and find some other means of pvping in other games/mmos.

Why should the server where only one person cares about WvW stand any chance to win against a server where a hundred people care about WvW?

WvW seems to have been designed to reward servers that are able to organize and coordinate their war effort.

You may have your own idea of what WvW should be, a fair playing ground where everyone can enjoy the game without the horrible feeling of “losing”, but it’s clear WvW wasn’t designed for that.
It’s a ruthless war game where what matters is what your server as a whole does, not what you as a lone hero do.

No, no, you must’ve misunderstood me.

See, sPvP is made completely fair to anyone by giving everyone the same gear, stats, level, skills.

WvW was never meant to be fair or balanced, that’s why there isn’t any game mechanic that tries to “level” the playing field.

sPvP is the fair one. WvW is the unfair one.
Asking for the outmanned buff to make the losing side stronger is asking for fairness. WvW doesn’t care about fairness.

Got onto WvW today, as usual getting stomped by the other server. Noticed an “out manned” buff giving me x-mf, x-karma, x-exp boosts. One question, how does this help at all?

It’s not meant to help, it’s meant to reward.
It’s not there to help you get even more easily, it’s just there so that in case you do try, you get rewarded better.

Lawl oh lordy lawl. I’m sure their plan was to have 75% of the WvWers quit in the middle of the first week-long WvW match. You HoDiddlers just don’t get it. This is bad for the long-term health of this game just like Ilum ended up really hurting SWTOR.

You’re exaggerating something you have no proof nor numbers to back up with.

If certain servers decide to abandon WvW entirely, then the ladder system will get to work and match them against each other. Those who care about WvW will still be in WvW-focused servers, queueing for battlegrounds for 5 hours.

Again, why is this a problem?

True, but games are suppose to be fun. It’s not fun being Poland vs Germany.

But players are free to judge for themselves whether they want to have a little fun, or no fun at all while queueing for a chance to have loads of fun once they get in.

The biggest problem is the snowballing effect. The longer a team wins the more secure their victory is. They gather more orbs so their players deal more damage and live longer. They gather more supply and upgrade their positions so they can hold them longer.
Throw in a population imbalance that gives one team the edge and due to the snowballing effect they become unbeatable.

So you see what i mean? None of those mechanics were designed to be fair or for balance. None of them are in place to make the game easier for the losing side. None of them are meant to make the game more difficult for the winning side.

The game doesn’t give a kitten whether you’re winning or losing. If you manage to organize enough people to achieve something, do it. There’s no policing a war.

It also weakens the server you are pulling from, which will result in more people losing even harder until they quit or transfer off.

When strong servers are grouped at the top and go against each other and weak servers are grouped at the bottom and go against each other, then the “ladder system” is doing exactly what it’s supposed to.

If your weak server is matched up against another weak server, isn’t that a good thing?

Due to increasing your servers population in order to stand a chance at winning you will have longer queue times. On SBI we can already fill the WvW servers up on weekends, it’s the week days that are the problem. You cant just recruit people to play only week days though. The result? More servers with longer queues.
Sorry, most people aren’t willing to sit in 7 hour queues just to be on the winning server, we actually like to participate in the win.

Then these people who don’t like staying in queues for 7 hours will have to decide for themselves whether it’s worth it to sacrifice being on the winning side for a chance to actually play.

The trade-off is very transparent. Either you be on a strong server but have to queue 5 hours, or be on a weaker server and never have to queue.

Why is this a problem? This is exactly the dynamic ArenaNet had in mind when they designed WvW.

That sounds perfectly reasonable.

Why not? That way you have a strong WvW-focused server with soldiers around the clock.

The servers that were abandoned will end up being filled up with people who don’t care about WvW and become “PvE-focused” servers.

Except servers have been bumped up and down for the past month and here we are still at the same problem.

What exactly is the problem? If you win the first half of the day, and the other guy wins the 2nd half of the day, then you two are effectively equally good, so you keep getting matched up against each other.

Losing is okay. You’ll get bumped down and fight against other undermanned servers.

The well organized, well manned servers will go up and fight each other.

In the end, everything works out. What are you complaining about?
If your server doesn’t have enough men to fight 24/7, why should your server deserve to win against servers that DO have men to fight 24/7?

The outmanned buff is NOT MEANT TO HELP YOU.
It’s meant to reward you more for taking more risks in a dangerous and hostile land.
