I remember playing gw2 beta and thinking yh its a good game but it sure needs optimization, hoping it would improve on release, didn’t hesitate buying the collectors edition hoping they would ‘sort it out’ and we are here 7 months after it released with no improvements whatsoever. What the hell were/are they thinking? It’s inexcusable.
If you choose to ignore this I guarantee expansion sales will be 20% of what gw2 sold, if ya lucky, perhaps 10% even
no chance in hell I’m buying any expansion when it runs like poooop

Over 4500 views, and not a single response, delete the thread or fix your kitten, It’s sad when all i see on official site is discounts and gem shop items, it feels like an isp operator
If they continue to ignore this game breaker issue I’d rather they delete the full thread instead of us hoping for a fix with no answer, that way we can move on and keep away from expansions. Seriously disappointed they took time to edit the thread title and no response there trying to fix the game.
Why was the word ‘Lousy’ removed from my thread title? deleting the word lousy won’t fix the lousy fps
Originally was “Will the lousy fps be fixed”? now someones renamed it “will the fps be fixed”
Wow still no response from Anet?! It almost feels like if they choose to ignore us any further we will go away, and we WILL go away when any expansion is released in it’s current state and nobody buys it.
Why the hell is there no official comment on this pathetic problem? please just a yes we are on it or no we are happy it wont change would do me so i can quit coming back and checking jeeeeez, really getting on my nerves the lack of an official comment, trust me your expansion sales will take a bigger hit than a hulk smash in the jaw if it stays like this.
I love Guildwars and have since day 1 i just want it to be made ‘good and playable’ without feeling ill from the lousy fps

Someone please explain to me – if its true – why Anet would optimize the game for a 360 port when the 360’s life is almost coming to an end? Did they seriously believe that there would be a market for an MMO on a console (which to my knowledge there has never been) especially one whose replacement is so near? Why? Speaking as an avid 360 player, thats just crazy. And is this the reason the game performs so poorly for many people in large encounters?
Well Sony and blizz just got in bed with each other with Diablo 3, which = cash shop sales on ps3 + ps4, perhaps GW2 is gonna do the same for next gen consoles and they held it back from 360 knowing the next gen consoles was around the corner.
Actually a percentage of RMAH not cash shop~edit

Perhaps when expansions don’t sell they may start realising it’s a serious issue, Gutted i waited 5 years for this game and we just get ignored and i spent £60 on CE
Feels like we been ignored, Iv’e a neighbour i hate but i still say Hi
Sux they continue to ignore it, no way in hell I’m buying a silly ridiculous pc just to get 30 fps when there is nothing wrong with my pc for other games.
Less gem shop items, just fix it.

Thanks for all the reply’s!
I consider going to 30-35fps (worst case WvW) to be a major upgrade, even tho it should be more, but thats the game’s fault :oI am from The Netherlands btw, so i guess it also doesn’t help that I play on a NA server, lol.
I should have mentioned that i am not looking at buying another AMD, I kinda lost faith in it after the current failure.
So i will stick with the 3770K since june is to far away to wait for haswell. I am however going to take your advice on a better cpu cooler.
It will be the be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 2, since its supposed cool 2 degrees more for the same price as the d14 (and it looks better :P)Also changed ram to a dual channel 2×8 G.Skill ARES 16 GB DDR3-1600 Kit (its nice and low so it should fit)
Thanks again, the order is in, now the wait begins
(i really should have made this topic a bit sooner :o )
I would not bother if i was you, It’s the games engine that’s seriously flawed not your 1.5 year old system, save ya money up and just get a new pc in about 2 years or so : )
It is so annoying when they ‘anet’ make statements about pointless shizzle on gem store and seem to ignore this game breaking issue, I guess they may wake up when sales of any expansion are terrible, I’m really disapointed they ain’t acknowledged the game is broken and won’t give us a big loving hug and tell us there fixing it.
Arenanet are kittens. They couldn’t give a single kitten about the game. Think about all of the current fixes (albeit most don’t work) posted on the Internet about the FPS problem. They are all posted by gw2 players.
Now turn to arena net, they won’t help the players with their FPS problems, try posting up any fixes or even acknowledge the fact that their game is dated or broken. They tell you that you need better hardware that your CPU sucks and NEEDS to be better, that your graphics card also sucks and doesn’t work with the game and that it’s very “odd” to have FPS problems even though the next 100 people are having these issues.
Anet will sit in their office scratching their balls and counting their money and there is nothing you can do about it.
(My comment seems pretty harsh but I’m god kitten angry at arena net right now)
In my case, I get great FPS during PvE (great being above 40 FPS 90% of the time; average 55 FPS). My CPU sucks also (Phenom II X3 720), but it’s OC’d to 3.5GHz currently. I have a Radeon HD 7850 that also seems to handle the game fine to an extent.
Certainly there is room for improvement on ANet’s end, but there is probably plenty of things the end-user can do to make their own experience better in the meantime. For example, lower some in-game settings (I’ve seen people complain of FPS, and meanwhile they never turned down any in-game settings from max…). Do some OS tweaks, update drivers, etc.
My CPU is pretty sub-par most likely compared to what most people have, and I get acceptable FPS. My computer is heavily tweaked as well to do so though.
Only problem with that is lowering any graphic options seems to have next to no effect whatsoever
Are Anet even fixing this? seems like they choose to ignore it.
i think the answer is “only if amd and intel come out with massively better cpu’d then they have now before the expansion”
alot of is have this feeling that anet arent even working on the perf at this point, some of the devs may be working on it on the side but, I really doubt anybody at anet is taking the issues seriously, they are still making money after all.
my whole game group has effectivly side lined gw2, we all have beastly gaming rigs, even tera at 2560×1440 runs at 40fps worst case…..and thats with the game maxed AND driver based AA and SMAA…..
the problem really seems to be that anet seems to have developed gw2 with dreams of an xbox360 port, what leads many of us to this conclusion is that the game has 3 heavy threads, and the 360 has 3 cores, and the 360 is dx9 level gfx hardware wise….years ago the dev’s where all excited the game was gonna be dx10 then even dx11 but that was fully abandoned in favor of dx9….this also ment they could sell the game to people running xp whos systems cant run the game worth a kitten…..
yeah anets kinda kittened me off…..but, I dont blame the dev’s, they just gotta do what management tells them to do……
so yeah, most likely what will fix the game is the xbox720 coming out and them porting the game to it, since the 720 will be dx11 and will have more cores, they will have to rewrite the engine to use more cores since the cores used wont be as powerfull as todays top cpu’s that only get you 30fps in LA……
I don’t think anyone buying a next gen system would want a dated looking game such as gw2, It appears anet are stuck between a rock and a hard place now, expansion sales will tell us as most pc gamers are sick of it and won’t upgrade to silly mega pc’s just to get 1 game running 30 fps lol
Before any expansion is released? otherwise I know where you can stick it.
I quit playing around September because of the terrible fps checking in now and again in the hope of some optimization only to be disappointed. No expansions for me, not when it runs like it does atm anyway
Get’s on my nerves now, people with good pcs get the blame for a very badly optimized game, hope expansion sales are very bad, and I feel sorry for people that get told there equipment is to blame when clearly it ain’t.
What makes gw2 so special? everyone having trouble with fps can run every other dam current game np whatsoever.
The game is broke, end of story until there’s a patch ‘doubtful’ expansions will sell very bad, and ps4 and nextbox will be out and nobody cares anymore.
The game runs like pooooop, and regardless of troubleshooting makes no difference whatsoever, i expect sales of expansions to be very bad.
Hope it gets optimized but i doubt it after waiting this long there efforts are probably focused on banging an expansion out asap.
Its a good job this game has no raids because they would be unplayable, and inb4 i can’t stand wow coz i can’t stand it either.

Low FPS – All of a Sudden? It’s been like that since day one for me lol, Not buying expansions until it’s fixed and not buying a new PC because of one game when all my other games run perfectly.
Don’t think you really tried hard enough to troubleshoot.
(https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Why-the-low-FPS-with-7870/first#post1124588 *continuation of your last complaint)
Now, Before you can say anything. I’ve been playing this game since realease with NO problems Whatsoever!! Nothing..
As i said.. Now my pc is just formatted.when i’m in the Heart of the mists, i have fps 10-15
I followed some guides found in this forum, but nothing helped.
- What is your CPU/GPU utilization at? temps?
- Drivers directly from amd.com?
- Windows & Direct X updated?
- See Part 4 of this thread for more information
Game runs very bad, end of story. No amount of troubleshooting will ever fix it sadly, of course i appreciate you trying to help though.
I waited 5 years for Guild wars 2 but it’s my biggest disappointment in PC gaming history.
Low FPS – All of a Sudden? It’s been like that since day one for me lol, Not buying expansions until it’s fixed and not buying a new PC because of one game when all my other games run perfectly.
I got my first character to 80 (my ranger) in the hope it may be optimized, then quit playing the dungeons because it made me feel ill and Wuh v Wuh gave me an ill feeling because of the lousy fps drops.
(edited by omino.4302)
Nope nothing’s changed i checked yesterday, from what ppl on here are saying is it’s the cpu that needs to be stupidly high speed to run this basic looking game, so I doubt you will see any difference whatsoever with your new gfx card sadly and my set up runs every other current game max np at all wish i could get a refund tbh waited 5 years for this. I reckon expansion sales will take a hit as I for 1 ain’t buying any not while it runs like a kitten
Kirito I’ve tried everything in regards to troubleshooting for example EVERYTHING on that stickied list I have no idea why you assume i ain’t looked for fix’s myself too, bottom line is the game is badly programmed which is why it needs a CRAZYILY high spec pc to get anywhere even near a poor 30 fps, it’s unnaceptable and is why any expansion will sell terribly unless its fixed.
It’s pathetic the game runs so bad, I’m never buying an expansion while it runs like this, It feels like a console port. No way in hell should my PC and hundreds of others should be suffering from such a lousy fps when we can all run every other current games no problem whatsoever including other mmo’s, I quit playing about 3 months ago as the frame rate made me feel ill, sometimes ill check back and see if it’s been optimized but sadly no it ain’t. I’m starting to think it was designed with consoles in mind to put it over on them later.
I find it shocking there’s been no official response on some kind of patch this is almost 2013 this sort of performance is inexcusable as everyone with fps problems have pretty good pc’s and can run all other current games np whatsoever. No expansions for me not when it runs this bad, fix the fps and I’ll buy your expansions
I’ve had to stop playing the game because of the awful fps eg, 14fps in LA and that ascalon fractal ‘slideshow’ 8fps to 15 fps and the others i’m always around less than 20 fps playing makes me feel ill and get headaches. Such a shame as i waited 5 years for this game I don’t get it I’ve tried everything on that stickied checklist and get the same poor performance, I’d blame my pc but i can run skyrim and other modern games on max settings 60fps np whatsoever : / No expansion for me until there’s some miracle optimization patch (here’s hoping).
Just a quick edit that above performance is settings all on low and lod on low it’s just silly.
Omino .. what cpu do you have?
Intel Core I5-3570 Processor
You have a good CPU, but claim bad fps. Should be getting 50-60fps with dips to 30s occasionally in LA. I have a 3570k and it works well. Something is wrong with your setup.
Nothing wrong with my set up all my other games ‘far cry 3 etc’ runs perfectly why would my set up be wrong for 1 game?
If there’s no chance they will optimize gw2 before any ideas of releasing expansions then i think any expansion will sell very poorly in comparison to gw2 mainly because it seems everyone having low fps problems with more than capable pc’s will have to upgrade JUST to play reasonably when they can run all other games perfectly fine : ( No chance in hell im upgrading my perfectly fine pc just to run 1 game better and I guess i won’t be the only 1 thinking that.
Is this game getting a patch to fix this awful fps or not? If not i think a LOT of gamers wont be buying any expansions in future
Id actually PAY subs to play GW2 if it ran smooth, that’s how annoying it is.
@ Solar you talk a lot but don’t say much, i saw some of your posts on this issue, your basically telling evreyone there PC suck balls and they need a PC capable of been skynet in order to run what’s a basic looking game. ofc i appreciate you trying to help but seems like the low fps ain’t down to people’s computers
(edited by omino.4302)
I’m not spending money upgrading my comp for 1 game when there’s nothing wrong with it, expansions will stay on the shelf.
Id like to see sales figures of the exp compared with initial sales of gw2, no way im buying any expansion when it runs so kitten and i can play other games np 60 fps+
please anet sort out this dire performance in terms of fps instead of working on your expansions, because if you don’t nobody will buy your expansion, put your efforts into fixing the main game instead of pouring all your resources into banging an expansion out which i assume will sell a quarter of what gw2 did IF your lucky. Get the main game running fluidly and ppl will buy it
(edited by omino.4302)
Waited 5 years for this game, and seriously disappointed by it’s lousy fps.
I had to stop playing because it made me feel ill.
It’s not my computers fault either, as i can run any modern day game np at all on max settings 60 fps np at all (including other mmos such as tera/rift/swtor)
Will there be an optimization patch in future?
As it stands there’s no chance I’ll be buying any expansions

Over the past few months, I have had the honour of playing GuildWars2, I have upgraded my computer 2 times in the meantime, and I am really disappointed with the results, Here is what I have to say.
Between the time and now, I have had the following Graphic cards:
- AMD Radeon 6850 HD
- Zotac GTX 580 Factory overclocked,
- And currently, EVGA GTX 680 Superclocked edition
To my surprise I had only seen 5-10fps increase, These GPU’s were priced at $300-500$, and they got progressively more powerful, With the 6850, I had 40fps in Lions Arch, at around 6pm (peak hours) and on the GTX680 I have 45-50, this is very troubling because the Graphic Cards are significantly different in power and consumption, the GTX680 is nearly 3 times as powerful as the 6850, but there is little to no difference in game.
All through out these events, I have had the same exact CPU, (Intel i7 2600k quadcore @3.70GHz) and Gskill 8GB RAM.
After all this struggle to try to play this game at 60fps I have further realized that this game is certainly not optimized for most GPU’s, most people would say, “Why in gods name would you want to play in 60fps, 30 is enough!” and I would respond, “I have the money, I do what I want, and when I try to do what I want, I expect it to work.” After putting an immense amount of money into my rig, I would like to get the most out of it.
My last point which is the most important, is that through out this entire process, none….I repeat NONE of the GPU’s went over the 35% usage mark, and this is the reason I cannot play today, I spent $700 CAD alone on just my current GPU, (not going to say how much all of them cost all together), and in game, if I turn around my camera too fast, it will lagg like crazy, when I load an area, it’s fine when I walk in a straight line, but the second I turn that camera, it’s like I’m on my 10 year old computer again.
All in all, I am able to play if I don’t move my camera around, or don’t move at all, or don’t even interact with other players……hint hint (I can’t play this game) Please fix this issue ArenaNet, I know you have done wonders with this game, but the absolute only thing I ask you, is to optimize this game for GPU’s, I want to get what I pay for, thanks for anyone who read this, share your thoughts on this and if there are any moderators or technical support assistants, please contact me, because I would really like to play this game, the way it was meant to be played.
Thanks for that at least i know it’s not my comp
I don’t understand how GW2 has such low fps, Urban battlefield Fractal was a slideshow and what’s worse it ain’t my computers fault as i can run any modern day game all maxed out so don’t say driver updates or any of that jive.
DR and anti farm codes are almost hitler like, let us play the game OUR way, I’m serious you’re throttling potential expansion buyers with this crap, oh and your mob’s and boss’s in dungeons have to much health its kittening boring.
Don’t say I didn’t warn you…
(edited by omino.4302)
Yep its sad I ain’t played in about 6 weeks because the dungeons just ain’t fun, and have been hoping for some changes so i can come back the main problem for me is the HUGE amount of health on mobs and boss’s it makes playing a chore and removes any fun also makes my character feel weak like I’m throwing cotton wool balls at them as opposed to arrows in the face. I’m not asking for 1 shot kills but atm there health is far to high.
1 other thing I’m unhappy about is medium skins to many coats, but that’s for the art dept the poor dungeon designers have had enough stick in the last couple months lol
Don’t forget the kitteny loot
Sadly we will see the extent of the damage soon enough when everyone moves on.
…kitten medium skins, kitten dungeon loot overall, kitten dungeons.
Dungeon’s lol trash to much health=boring
As much as i love Guild wars i would stay away from an expansion like the bubonic plague if there’s no improvement.
Can’t we get more skins? not everyone wants to wear a kitten ugly coat ‘looking at you medium armour’, or more so class specific skins?
and please. make the loot worthwhile, kitten loot aint much of a pull
(edited by omino.4302)
Any plans for more medium skins in future? those big coats are vile
I can’t speak for art, but if you wanna see an epic sweet big coat for LIGHT armor, the GW1 HoM light armor reward is pretty big and coat-y.
:P i’ll have a look on my ele thx
Cash shop should put some gw1 armours up for sale, 100% better than any of the dungeon armours ive seen especially in the medium variety. If i want a long ugly coat i’ll watch a few episodes of the Equalizer
One token to rule them all.
Any character to find them.
One vendor to bring them all,
And in the forge bind them. The main problem we see with a universal token system, is that players will find the easiest dungeons they can do within the DR system’s influence range, and just do them over and over.
It would be like if people could use all their CoF tokens from the speed/exploit clears, and buy up Arah Dragon armor. Were that the case, the armor itself would have no real value behind it. When you look at a player and you see a full suit of dragon armor, you know that they did a certain thing to get that armor. With a universal token system, you lose that sense of knowledge of what another player has gone through to get what they have.
Any plans for more medium skins in future? those big coats are vile
If they add more skins then sure, otherwise cram it I’ve no interest in any dungeon leave it as it is for all i care.
Just out of curiosity did the gw1 armour designer move on/get sacked or other means? because gw2 armours are some of the worst I’ve seen in any mmo and believe me iv’e played almost all and ive seen better looking STARTER armour in obscure f2p korean mmo’s that looks better than gw2 dungeon skins, I’m not kidding!
in particular medium armours to many ugly coats
(edited by omino.4302)
I understood perfectly what he meant. Still no one is locked out, his entire argument is based on the fallacy that dungeons take people 4 hours to do. Bullrabbit. It’s one thing to not do dungeons because you, yourself, are incompetent, and are unwilling to find a group and learn the encounters, its another to make up blatant rabbiting lies about the average run times of the average person. No one is locked out because everyone is capable of learning how to play, those who are unwilling deserve no pandering to by the devs.
Nobody is asking for pandering. You guys flipping out over how dungeons are totally ok are too busy being smug and condescending to realize that the average player is not enjoying these dungeons. You won’t stop to acknowledge the valid criticisms these players have, and you jolt immediately to insults. You call people incompetent, tell them they just need to learn to play, and make the implications they should just return to WoW or something.
I don’t want the dungeons to just turn into cakewalks. I want them to be honestly challenging. They are not honestly challenging in their current incarnation. The difficulty is hidden behind obtuse mechanics the player has never seen before, and coupled with the more robust aggro system, it leads to chaos. The dungeons are slogs, gauntlets of trash monsters that have too much health doing too much damage. It leads to pretty much either forming a permanent dungeon team that never does groups outside their group, or never doing dungeons at all because pugs will never survive. I won’t deny the dungeons, on a whole, become much simpler once you manage to get through them and figure out the tricks, but the stark reality is the huge brick wall players are hitting in these dungeons does not encourage repetition to learn from mistakes. It breeds frustration and discouragement, the opposite of what creates a fun atmosphere for the game.
This, in turn, leads to the game having an insular clique of The Goods who have the time to spend 3-4 hours learning a new dungeons (or less because apparently you’re all super geniuses who can deduce mechanics intuitively) lording their achievements over people they deem The Bads. The latter group stops enjoying the game, and let me assure you: this is the group that is paying lion’s share of the bills. When these players stop playing, and they will if they are not enjoying the game, the devs will have a lot less funding coming in.
These dungeons are not fun for a very apparent portion of the player base, and it is not a small portion. They did not buy this game to get stonewalled by abrupt jumps in difficulty. They did not buy this game so a group of people on the forums who mine Wikipedia entries and Youtube videos can claim supremacy over them. They bought it to play through and enjoy all aspects of the game. So before you decide to climb on your high horse about how easy the game is for you, remember that you alone were not the only person this game was sold to.
Well said, these dungeons are no fun and the loot is even worse.
I just hope they introduce more skins because right now i wouldn’t do a dungeon because the skins are so bad, in gw1 at least had ecto/shard chance uw/fow respectivley but the loot is so bad in gw2 its pointless for me to put any effort in knowing ive 0 use for tokens and there aint any drops to look forward to
To many coats! and the worse part is they all look alike and are fugly as hell, I sound like a broken record but it’s getting on my nerves
(edited by omino.4302)
Gear up? there just skins :p
can save yaself a lot of hours and just buy crap off tp which has same stats tbh
Yeah I have to agree. I don’t like the whole piratey theme either. As a thief I don’t want a long coat, as a ranger I would though. I kinda hope class specific gear makes a come back. But in the meantime I’ll guess I’ll be saving up for the t3 human armor for my thief.
T3 human, that’s the exact same set id like to get eventually lol further highlighting the problem as your a thief and im a ranger yet after such a slog to earn all that gold as 2 different class’s will look identical :s
T3 and dualist are the ONLY medium skins that’s not some big awful looking coat.
(edited by omino.4302)
…………I’d like to see better looking skins from dungeons, 90% look the same, that’s terrible.
What is with the big coats rangers/thieves/engis wear? 1 of main reason in any mmo is trying to be unique, well for me it is.
spending more time on the forum than playing a game i waited 5 years for, what does that tell you about the dungeons&skins?
How about making a new UW and end chest has a decent looking CLASS specific piece of armour in an end chest?
Skins atm id rather wear an old sack than what’s offer for trade with tokens from these horrible dungeons.
