However, everyone’s deviation got reset, so your still move up and down a lot from this new rating.
From what I understood, after the placement, closer you are to you real mmr, harder is to move up.
So in this guy case, what should be his expectation for this season? He has a very solid win/rate and how he can move up more if he basically lose more points for losing than he wins? He should have some monster win/rate like 70/30 or 80/20 in solo?
I mean how this can promote the player improving? It sounds like you’re stuck in a limited area and you can’t really move a lot from there. Your contribution to the team is always 1/5, so I really dunno how it worth try to put maximal effort to play every game at 110% and try like crazy.
I’m interested because with my Main account I’ve a similar situation and in this area it seems super hard to move up.
And btw I’ve the feeling that the previous mmr and these 10 games placement have a too much importance about your entire season experience, about chance to move up.
And high ranked people will exploit this playing as little as possible if they already have super high position, minimum is 30 games for the entire season, I’m pretty sure many people in top50-100 will play the minimum.

Raw Skill Rating will never be given as a reward. If we had an accurate measure of match contribution based on stats, then it could get worked into the Glicko algorithm which would in turn maybe end up giving you more rating.
I think this is totally wrong.
The system should calculate your game performance and should give you a +x or -3 x mmr for top stats, based on your role.
I think you did a very good rework about new stats and you should put this in the performance player and mmr.
Evan, the matchmaking is not perfect and probably never will be, so I think players should have a way to save themselves from bad matchmaking, at least to contain the loss if they play well and get a bonus if they win the game. Maybe the contribution for loss can be higher dunno, but every player has only a 1/10 weight in 1 game, so you should promote some way to let them to advance better IF THEY PLAY WELL.
There is nothing more frustrating that see a single player who has 4 top stats+ and the rest of your team with NOTHING. And you lost the game.

Skill doesn’t matter if you can’t affect solid movement upward outside of the first ten matches where you are randomly matched up. The people saying skill matters got lucky on their first ten games.
You can though. I finished my placement yesterday at 950 rating. Yes that’s right sub 1k.
I’m currently at 1347 rating, and I will climb into gold tomorrow and expect to get into platinum before the season ends. Climbing is entirely doable, it just takes time. People need to stop expecting to winstreak straight to legendary.
Also those people that got a lucky placement are going to have a rude awakening when the good players with bad placements start working up the board.
No offense but I think to climb from 1k to 1.5k si really easy, is like to play against Amber boys, very easy to carry.
I’d like to know strategies about moving from 1.7-1.8k+ more because sounds like the old Diamond but without Win Streaks (that was the key to climb).
And dunno why but I’ve the feeling People with 1.8k more is scared to play, a lot of players with really few games in top ladder, this makes really harder to climb for people who have a lower mmr.

So I’m 1700 skill (solo) and I want to move up, to 1950.
What i need to do?
Because I can’t find other solutions than grab a good friend and try to win together something like 70/30 of our games (and it’s not easy at all, we need to play super well and pray that our other team mates are decents). They Are 250 mmr points and is really big (in this area).
If you have other suggestions, rdy to listen. Im 60/40 now in soloqueue and it’s not enough to significantly climb

Speaking about soloqueue, I’ve a bad feeling, after your placement, don’t seem you can move a lot from your initial mmr, I see the same pattern you had in the previous sesons without the win streak that was basically super important to climb the divisions.
I’ve the feeling without a good friend in duo queue, you have really few chances to move from your initial mmr.
Maybe is too early dunno but I’ve this weird feeling and it’s not good at all.
Anyone else?
PS 4 times legendary in s1-s4, platinum tier 1 now.
A good compromise could be give more ladder points for win if u’re solo instead of duo (and less points lost if you lose).
Sounds fair to me, more risk, more reward.
Ofc it’s an improvement from the randomQueue 1-5 but this should be only solo, it’s not a fair competition with a unique leadeboard.
All it needs is one simple change: If a player clicks “No”, they exit the match immediately.

The only thing i Know that today Xera was a huge pain to kill.

Honestly is a good suggestion, considering Gift of fortune is a huge component for legendary and pvp pure players have always some issues with gold

I do raids a LOT and many times I complete w1 &w2 on Monday so basically for the rest of the week if I kill some bosses I get only a bunch of bags like reward
It happens I help People to complete their runs but the feeling you have when you kill the boss and i get only some champion bags is pretty terrible.

Time + most damage sounds good.
Stealth could be annoying but for example If the game is tie after for example 10 min, They could extend for 1 min. with an anti stealth aoe debuff active in the arena (like Mai trin in Fractal )

We said this many time and honestly is the best Idea ever because you get many things at the same time:
Practice and fun fight mode for the next season
A different alternative for a month where there aren’t competitive reward
You don’t split the community too much because this takes the place of ranked for 1 month
Just 1 thing many people didn’t like Courtyard because it was with too many loS Walls, it would need a little rework here.
I appreciate how the www devs did a poll for the next step, maybe spvp devs could do the same

I find a little weird s2 is almost finished and we have no news on off season, s3 and balance patch
Honestly this bug is really bad, it’s not the same like Arah and Fractal because, by design, you couldn’t join a tribulation run already started, you can only do it because of this bug.
I trained a lot to to learn every tribulation run and organize myself to complete the collections….and now there is the lfg plenty of lfsell Messages.
I started to sell paths too, at least i can gain some money like others and this repay me a little from the time i spent to master trib. runs.
But it is a sad situation.

It should be the opposite, making Emerald/Sapphire with less save points and making Ruby/diamond/Legendary harder to reach.
Leagues are not supposed to be a reward track but a competitive environment.
And in a competitive environment not everyone can win.

Well, it’s pretty obvious matchmaking can’t do miracles if there is no enough people to play in the same division at this time in a gamemode not popular like conquest.
How much time for queue?
Because if queue goes more than 6min, many times matchmaking needs to extend pip range to let the game start.

Emerald and Sapphire players shouldn’t reach RubY so easily.
I mean, if you continue to do many Amber/Emerald/Sapphire mistakes (super general basic mistakes like people who cap the node in 2/3, beast in 2/3 at start, people who go 4vs1 etc.) you need to improve your gameplay or understand a better gameplay.
Ideally Ruby should be the mid tier where people start to play decently.
Right now you continue to see in Ruby an amber gameplay with people who do A LOT OF super basic mistakes. Ruby should exprime a different gameplay from emeral and sapphire. And Superior leagues like diamond and legendary get too many people who don’t really belong to that division.
This is not acceptable in a good progression system.
So the good idea shoud be you have a progression improving your gameplay.
I agree Sapphire and Emerald need to be more selective.

I agree, too many times there unbalanced games from beginning, only because teams have a bad mix of damage/sustain or there are only good people stacked from one side and 0 on the other.
I hope, at least on reddit this kind of topic can receive some attention because if Anet don’t fix this stuff is impossible for matchmaking working properly.
And this game will have always a random matchmaking.

1. Divisions are not a “skill” measure. It’s a progression system. It means you need to play a lot of games and win a good quantity. This is a personal reward system.
2. Guild Leaderboard is ELO Based. It means your team gain points depending on your opponent rating. It’s the best design a team leaderboard can have.
If you’re complaining because there is a “premade vs solo” issue, the reality is that this game and many other games can’t survive with a pure solo and team (full team) leaderboard.
Maybe in the future Anet will able to add a separate queue (depending on population) but for now it’s impossible.
So instead of complaining to be chain stomped by a premade, just to not be lazy and create your premade pug.
I did like 9 matches in ranked today but the main issue is not really the mmr but the totally unbalanced party composition . There were full premade against solo team but honestly the main issue is when you face (or you have) a bunker composition against a squishy composition.
Not everyone can reroll or play two professions at the same level, it’s really necessary the algorithm keeps in consideration professions and role, and your skill level with their specific profession/role.
It’s only way to have a pretty well balanced game, only the mmr is not enough.
And never never you should meet a full premade when you’re solo.
Same value, burning can stack but at least we have a cap in pvp.
Considering 3 stacks with a condi build (and celestial with high might) is always a really good damage (850+).
In this way you shave ele dd cele damage and some other condi builds who can stack a ridiculous burning quantity in a short time.
You can modify the burning duration in relation to this tweak

I’d be happy to not face full premade if i go solo.
I’m fine with trio or duo if I have the same roster size on my side, but a full premade has too many advantages.
You can still win with your team.
Only in rare case you can win against a full preamade with soloers, basically they need to be a bad premade and you need to have really good players with you.
The fact they can use voice communication + profession optimization is a great advantage, honestly a full team never should meet a soloer team.
And from a full team prospective, there is no glory to win against a full soloers team, no real practice and i don’t see reasons why a team should gain positions in team leaderboard stomping soloers.

No Mesmer bug fix in the patch
I found condi formulas totally wrong.
Damage base is too high and it scales not well with condi damage.
It’s a totally no sense a zerk classe con hit you with over 1k+ damage of burning.
1k damage of burning is insane for a condi class, a totally broken thing for a no condi specialized class.
Condis are not DoT anymore it’s like spike damage, passive, it’s a really no sense.
Pls lower the condis formulas a lot for zerk class and celestial class and promote only 1.2k+ condi damage classes (pure condi profs).
The combination of Vampirism Rune + Improvisation is a little too much imho, basically a thief can do many mistakes and be carried by RNG + invulnerability and reset the fight, until he can do a good spike, mostly depending on sigils proc.
