For those unhappy with Treaharne

I hated Trahearne the second he asked me to do the “Ask the others if they like me” quest. I really wish you could’ve gone to each pact member, told them, “Hey, this guy we’re supposed to be following? This guy who is our military leader? The one who has a powerful, well regarded hero as an asset? Yeah, he wants to know if you like him.” Like effing high school.

I’m sure General Patton did the same thing. “Better to fight for something, than to live for nothing. Commanding officers, I want you to go to each individual soldier and ask them if they like me.”

Yeah, that’s not a colossal waste of time during a WAR.

Mouse problems

Have any of you created application specific settings in your mouse software? I did that with a Logitech Performance MX mouse and it caused all sorts of issues. After I removed my application specific settings, the problems went away.

It may not apply for anybody in this case, but hey, every little bit helps.

Karka hp keeps resetting to full

The following sequence was supposed to happen:

  • Trebuchet is built by workers
  • Ancient Karka shows up
  • Trebuchet fires at Ancient Karka
  • Ancient Karka jumps into the water and flees to Southsun Cove
  • Boat to Southsun Cove is available
  • Players travel to Southsun Cove to fight karka there

Here’s how the event unfolded for me:

  • Stand around in Lion’s Arch, get excited message on map chat that treb is being built
  • Hang out next to treb and watch it get built
  • Wait for 45 minutes as people brawl around me
  • Boat to Southsun Cove is available

Sanctum of Rall overflow.

And to actually respond to the original intent of this thread, add Sanctum of Rall overflow to the resetting Veteran Karka health bar. Makes for a REALLY boring trek through the dynamic events, considering there are 953,000 veterans you have to kill along the way.

Also, are they supposed to drop anything ever? Because I’ve been through two runs of the event chain and veterans have dropped absolutely nothing. Ever. Everything else drops loot, just not the veterans.

So, cool.

Add Sanctum of Rall to the list. Overflow too.

Losing Keyboard/Mouse on Quit

For the one person that might have a similar issue looking for a solution on the internet, with the help of support, we’ve discovered the issue: I’m using a Logitech PerformanceMX mouse with my laptop.

I set some application specific settings within Logitech’s software. This was causing the crash. So, I removed the application settings (which is unfortunate, because the PerformanceMX’s scroll wheel in GW2 Mac Beta is REALLY overly sensitive).

So, anyone out there have this problem in the future, it’s probably your mouse software.

Instance Doesn't Start

Figured it out – one of the party members started the instance before joining the group, causing the Mad King to freeze in place. Once the group disbanded, I joined another group and ran it fine.

I went in to fight the Mad King with a group. We’re in the instance right now. We’re waiting. Nothing Happens. Isn’t something supposed to trigger? Shouldn’t he attack, or something? What’s wrong?

why no high res textures?

Also can someone tell me if the rMBP would have better graphics performance than my same/similar spec’d standard MBP and why?

The resolution is significantly higher on the rMBP (2880×1800), but it’s still the same physical screen size. This allows for a much sharper image. It’s REALLY gorgeous. I just resized the UI. It wouldn’t play at 30fps consistently when settings were maxed for me (sometimes it would, sometimes it wouldn’t, depends on the area and what’s going on with background processes, etc.).

I'm a horrible person... But Mad King Thorn made me do it.

Banning for this is a ridiculous idea.

I’d argue that this is actually some of the most considerate griefing I’ve ever seen: right near a waypoint; fairly obvious that it’s a prank; doesn’t get in the way of anything else in the game (i.e. after you’ve fallen for the prank you can laugh at yourself for falling for it and move on without consequence of it happening again, unlike people who set this stuff up at carving pumpkins or ghosts during Mad Memories); and it’s ultimately hilarious.

Plus, suicide at the end cracked me up.

If anything, this was COMPLETELY in the spirit of the event. Kudos!

Agreed – I hitched on to a group in the Labyrinth and we waltzed from door to door (well, spawn spots and waited a bit). I had the event achievement in a little over half an hour, and some fairly decent loot.

Losing Keyboard/Mouse on Quit

Every time I quit the client on my MacBook, it locks up the keyboard and mouse – they completely stop working. Trackpad too. The power button works fine – I’m assuming this is some sort of issue between Cider and the HID being released from the system. The only fixes I’ve found so far are band-aids: a forced reboot, or force-quit rather than regular quitting. Funny thing is, this only recently started happening, and it wasn’t after an update. I’ve repaired permissions, zapped the pram, etc.

I’ve included a screenshot with the basic system info.

Other than an inability to quit, the client works fine for me (other than some Black Lion Trade issues, but that just takes a logout/login). Thank you again for making a Mac beta at all – not having to boot into Bootcamp for the handful of games I have on my laptop is a serious plus!

I've come to dislike waypoints.

I’m not a big MMO player like a lot of people around here. I played WOW for about a week several years ago, and SWTOR for about six months. One of the bigger complaints I remember seeing on the SWTOR forums was the lack of quick travelling. It could take upwards of fifteen to twenty minutes to get anywhere – whenever my tiny, tiny guild of friends wanted to do a flashpoint together, we had to really build our day around doing it. We all have kids and jobs, we really didn’t have the time to plan for full day-long questing as a group. Taking that long just to meet up became a chore, almost a slap in the face. After a few weeks, it simply wasn’t fun anymore.

It’s interesting to me that the exact opposite argument has started popping up here. One of the things we like so much about GW2 is that we can get around so easily, should we choose. I feel the same way about the Elder Scrolls games – with quick travelling, it’s more encouraging to explore if we know we won’t be stuck backtracking for twenty minutes. I see it as a positive addition. It allows for a wider audience (those of us who can’t trek across great vistas because we can only play on our lunch breaks), should they so choose to waypoint it.

I can’t speak for WvW waypoints, as that is something I’ve yet to experience myself.

Anyway, there’s my 2 cents.
