So I logged in the other day and received this message. I’m glad the guy is doing well and would like to meet Nibbles some day, but don’t remember him at all.
Any of the rest of you gotten this message? Or know who this guy is?
Other than the ooze part on the first mission I really liked this story, I like how the bosses weren’t just hack and slash. The new are is fun, though it gets old running around it. Braham has turned into a charactuer of a character though,. Over all good story though.
So I never thought I’d say this, but I actually like Trahearne now… Compared to my new least favorite character of all time. I Have a theory that ANET got sick of us complaining about good old Trahearne and decided to put a character who is so deplorable, so disgusting and irremediable, that by comparison Trahearne would shine.
Who is this horrible creation that haunts my nightmares? None other than Hal the Hermit. That rascal who is never thankful despite the fact I risk life and limb to bring him a tasty, healthy snack. Is he grateful? NO, is he even a smidge less rude after I’ve brought him 10 apples? NO. He is the worst human being ever. imagine your least favorite politician, and Hal is worse.
I haven’t brought him the 50 apples he requires yet, but I will keep going at it, in the vain hope that after that last apple is delivered, I can pick him up and throw him into the volcano. I’d do the JP with him on my back for that chance.
If not I’m going to make the trip one more time and eat that 51st apple right in his ugly pock-ridden face.
My bug was a little different, it happened as soon as we started fighting the dragon.
Don’t know if this has been posted here before but I was in Dragon Stand today and just as we finished the towers the map closed, I went to loading screen and everyone was kicked out before we started the fight with the dragon. There was about 25 minutes left on map timer, and it disappeared like normal right after the last tower fell but the map closed less than a minute later. People in map chat had been talking about the bug before it even happened so I’m sure it’s not an isolated event.
I’m an old gw1 player, been playing 2 since beta and what I’m looking for is a casual guild that likes to have fun. Some of my fondest memories from gw1 and the early days of gw2 are having a few drinks and getting together with like-minded people on the weekends just doing things. just being dumb and having fun with friends.
2 months later and still bugged. Just tried it 2 times and stuck in 2 different places.
Why Anet, did you take my skill points away?

That is understandable, but it still feels like they took something away, then told me I needed it.
Because they really were taken away. months ago, I had them, now I don’t. They may have given me something in return, but they took something I needed, and replaced it with something that is not as useful.

sorry if this has been brought up before, a quick search didnt show it.
So I like to map and have completed it on multiple characters, played for a long time, so I had tons of skill points, and like 3 and a half stacks of the scrolls that gave us skill points. Anet decided to introduce spirit shards, and took them all away. I mean I have more than 3k spirit shards.
I was like ok, no biggy I got more then I would ever need anyway. Well jokes on me I guess. now I need them. So ANET, my question is, why would you take everything away that I had worked for, and then some months later tell me I need them?
It’s not like I didn’t earn them. It’s more like, “hey you spent 2+ years getting all of this, you’re going to need them really soon, but hey, we’ll just take them” WTH anet?
I know I’m not the only one in this boat, what’s going on with this?
I was standing in LA one friday night when pets started appearing all arround me. No rangers, no other players, just pets. Dozens of them. I was like “what is going on” I later found out that WvW had just reset and i happened to be standing at the gates so it was all the pets belonging to the people who had been kicked out for reset.
Another time I logged in and in guild chat It didn’t say my name. It just had a colon, then whatever I typed. No one else could see my name either, it was like a ghost. I wish I could tell you that I proceeded to haunt my guild like a ghost, but alas, I told them who I was. I wasted it.
Appologies if this is already been posted but I dusted off my old engi today and couldn’t stop thinking about this when I used the bombs.
same problem here. quite annoying.
I have the exact same problem on my ele
The price for HOT stand alone ONLY is $50, that is the price of the expansion…. Ok, still following…… Base game is included free to make it easier for new players to get into, which is a good thing.
I still dont understand why so many arent paying attention and think they are buying the original and the expansion.. HOT cost $50, thats what your paying for.
Oh! So they said it’s free? I didn’t realize there are few thousands of people complaining on different language forums and nobody noticed that…… :0
Ever heard of…. marketing or economics?….. Cost distribution? No? Ok…. Just asking…..50$ price is in fact is in fact a newbie deal which is designed to make people buy both at once, which means old people pay more than just for expansion, but that allows the price to be lowered for new players.
The cost for HoT should be:
-new people: core game 40$(?) +30$ (or so) for xpac
-old players: 30$ for xpac (obviously core game is already paid for)To reduce cost of core game for new players they just distributed it among ALL existing and potential players:
-new people: 50$ (for portion of core game + xpac)
-old players: 50$ (for xpac + portion of new players’ core game) + whatever they already paid for the core game
nicely put. I’ve been thinking this may have been a part of it too but that would be a huge scumbag move.
Anet doesnt owe any vet players a kittening thing. You got your monies worth and they want to bring in more players. Youve gotten your free skins, youve gotten your free level 20 characters multiple times, a free level 80 if you werent stupid. I have a level 80 whatever I want right now when HoT hits, youve gotten to see the living stories for free and the newcomers have to pay to see it.
Im a vet player, though I’ve been off and on i started about a month after release and I’ve gotten so much that these new players dont have access too. The only people who should be complaining is the people who bought GW2 a few months before HoT pre-orders were released. Those are the only people who got screwed over.
If you dont think the expansion is worth it at this point with the limited information, dont buy it. Some of you vets make it look like the playerbase just wants everything for free. “Wah I want a free character slot” “Wah I want a free skin for being a vet player”… shut the kitten up already.
You want a free character slot, go get some gold and convert that into gems and get one, you want a free skin, do the same thing.
They dont owe you anything, get it through you kittening skulls already.
wow someone got up on the wrong side of the bed. How about this, they owe us the truth. Instead of the bs line about the core game being a freebie added on, just tell the truth.
Not that they will, it would look pretty crappy if they said “well you have to spend a bit more to pay for the core game, which you already have so will never use,
but it will make things cheaper for new players.”
Yeah that wouldn’t go over too well, but I personally would be less annoyed then with the lie of it being a freebie. It’s actually a bit insulting that they thought we were dumb enough to believe that. so I guess in my opinion they owe me two things as a loyal customer. The truth AND not to be treated like an idiot.
umm the base game is not free… I picture the pricing conversation as going something like this:
Person 1: “……..so we’ll throw in the old game and charge 50 bucks for it.”
Person 2 “Oh kitten, the vets are gonna be mad we’re charging them for the old game again when they won’t even be able to use it, we better make something up to tell them”
Person 1 " lets just tell them the base game is a freebie added in, they will buy that"
Person 2 “nobody’s going to believe that , anyone with even the most basic knowledge of economics will realize that’s not true”
Person 1 “who cares? lets go take a money bath!”
person 2 “Yay”
thanks, I was afraid of that.
I’ve heard they are only going to be available to those who purchase the expansion and wanted to know if that was true.
Because if they actually would force us to buy the expansion for something they have been promising us since day one, I don’t really have words for that.

To clarify: $50 is the price of the expansion. We included the core game as a free bonus to make it easier for new players to get into it.
I may not know much about economics but I do remember one thing “there is no such thing as a free lunch” so you can tell us that the price was always going to be 50$ and they just decided to throw in the core game out of the kindness of your heart, but I find that impossible to believe. Honestly, that’s the most insulting aspect of this whole mess to me.
Giving the core game away as a way to get more people to buy the expansion, great idea, I have no problem with that. Making people who already have the game pay for the core game again, not so great. Telling those people they are not paying for the core game when they really are. That’s where I get annoyed.
I guess what it really come down to is worth. I’m really hoping there is going to be much more than what I’ve heard included in this expansion because right now I can’t begin to comprehend what justifies the 50$ price tag.

I played GW1 for many years and came to GW2 right when it launched. I was excited when they announced an expansion. I was thinking along the lines of a Factions or nightfall (I know they weren’t true expansions but you get what I mean) The wastes just don’t hold the interest for me that those places, and EotN did. Honestly I’ve become quite bored with the game after three years and the info I have on the expansion has done nothing to change my mind. The price was basically the last nail in the coffin.
With all that being said though it comes down to is, is this expansion worth it to you personally? It’s not worth it to me so I won’t buy, simple as that. I’m not going to be insulted by the fact that the deal is much better for new players. good for them.
To the annoyed people out there you can talk until you’re blue in the face but green is the only language that will get though to them. If you want the expansion then buy it and enjoy. If you are really mad about this don’t buy it. I really believe that’s the only way your message will get though.
So if this has already been talked about sorry, but I was doing the story quests for Seeds of Truth with a friend and when I joined her on my engi (as the non-caithe character) I couldn’t equip kits. Anyone else run into this problem? It was quite annoying and with the final bosses attacks turrets wouldn’t have worked so I was pretty much useless. (not practiced with any other builds) Is it just me or is this another little way for ANET to give engi’s the finger?
so basically ANET doesn’t care about us. they are going to forget about this and us. I wish there was a way to actually get something about this from a dev, but unfortunatly I can’t think of a way to do so when they are just ignoring us.
so I’m going through the story with DE v2 and it’s like going through with 5 Trahearnes. They do almost no damage to the enemy, take just about no aggro, and are basically useless. They wouldn’t even qualify as henchmen in GW1. I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen any of them kill an enemy.
yeah I’ve noticed this too. I as standing (swimming) like 2 feet from an enemy and one grenade was going straight down, one hit and the other was hit or miss. can we get a fix please?
Of course that’s your contention. You’re a first-year grad student; you just got finished reading some Marxian historian, Pete Garrison probably. You’re gonna be convinced of that ‘till next month when you get to James Lemon. Then you’re going to be talking about how the economies of Virginia and Pennsylvania were entrepreneurial and capitalist way back in 1740. That’s gonna last until next year; you’re gonna be in here regurgitating Gordon Wood…..
um, it’s not really a view of life, seeing as how the subject of this thread was never alive.
View of life as in, which morals and ideas the player has. And wheter the game is fiction or not doesn’t matter. If words didn’t hurt people, we wouldn’t have psychiatrists.
Actually the fact that this is fiction matters more than anything.. I didn’t go out yesterday and throw grenades at my enemies, or chop down a tree for crafting materials. I didn’t throw 4 random things down a well and hope I get something better back. this is a GAME, we do things in the game we would never do in real life. That’s the point. My words don’t hurt scarlet because she never existed. How about this, if my words hurt this fake plant-person’s fake feelings, I’ll pay some fake money so a fake psychiatrist can make them feel fake better. I’ll even write a fake apology letter.
I didn’t read this whole thread so this has probably already been brought up but I gotta ask, how awesome must your life be that something like this annoys you? a few thousand years ago people worried about getting eaten by a saber tooth cat, or finding food. A few hundred years ago people worried about dying from the plague or giving birth to 9 kid sbut only 2 surviving. Our grandparents had World Wars to worry about. But some of you worry because a fictional character isn’t sensitive to the death of an evil fictional character. You must have the most problem free life ever. Good on you.
Why is it so wrong to have a response like “I didn’t like it but it was neccesary.”? Why are some of you so intent on telling us how we’re pathetikittentle whiners if we’re making a comment about an ingame dialogue? Why is your ‘no-care’ view of life superior to ours? In fact, where do any of you get the audacity to tell others how they should view things?
um, it’s not really a view of life, seeing as how the subject of this thread was never alive.
I danced on her dead body after I stuck my guild banner right through her lying gut, but then again I realize that a plant person drilling for magic weylines to wake up a dragon is fiction. Seriously it’s a game. how about choosing something worthwhile to be offended over.
so is doing Teq during this time something that could get one banned?
1. ranger
2. engineer
3. ele
I really wanted to so engineer first, since the horizontal progression is horrible with them, but ranger is so hated it had to be first.
so here’s what I think will happen. After a rough days work killing the marionette, you decide to go into scarlet’s “secret” lair, to turn in your hard earned keys and steal from her. Scarlet, exhausted from fixing her puppet yet again, has decided to take a quick nap while stopping off to refill her chests. you walk in and low and behold she’s snoozing in her seat, having fallen asleep in front of the monitor. You set off the trap, because after numerous times in there you still haven’t learned not to stand in the middle of the door as you pass through. Being a big tough player though you don’t cry out and she stays asleep. You sneak up behind her, point your weapon at her head and BLAM! One dead plant. Upon her pathetic death all her various alliances fall apart and you am commended for your quick thinking actions. Lion’s Arch Children’s Choir sings your praises in the street, parents name their newborns after you, and in a fit of unheard of generosity Kel decideds to do away with all WP fees. A happy ending
I’ve noticed this too and find it quite frustrating. For example in fractals, the final guy in the colossus will only come after me. Basically the only break I have from it is when he sends me to jail. THe ettin champ in the asuran fractal will also only come after me. Champs run past my team to get to me. It happens alot. I know it’s not based on toughness, I go in with a guardian sometimes who has like 900 more toughness than me. I think maybe it’s the grenades that do it. 3 hits may make them come after us.
Not sure where to put this so I figured I ‘d ask here first. I was playing Keg Brawl tonight and more than once when I would try to knock someone down or knock the keg out of their hand I couldn’t and it showed they were immune to that skill. Is this a bug, cheat, or just some kind of trick for good playing? I’ve not seen that before
so apparently this is broken again, just tried to do it.
Never go shield, always rifle, though 90% of the time I use kits.
wow toughness bad, good to know that you all.
I go prec/tough/condition damage, my toughness is around 2k at level 80, but I go in with warriors and guardians too, and I would guess they have better toughness.
(edited by ratche.6204)
I’m not sure whats going on but it seems everywhere I go, the enemies pay an inordinate amount of attention to me. I’ve gone into fractals and on cliffside had the boss attacks only me, going past lighter armored, lower level characters. He’s sent me to jail 7 times and not anyone else at all. (though it was a nice break from kiting) I just finished HotW p1 and the butcher, only came after me. These are not isolated occurrences, they seem to happen all the time. In the asuran fractals the harpies inevitably target me. The Ettin champ always does. To give just a few examples. Now I’m wondering how do they choose who they go after, and do they always lock onto one character? I run an Engi most of the time, with grenade condition build. Full exotic armor, infused trinkets etc. The only thing I can think of is it’s because I’m tossing three grenades at a time so it’s three hits? though even when I go with other engi, ti seems to be me. Now I’m wondering how do they choose who they go after, and do they always lock onto one character? Anyone know how this works and how I maybe could get a little relief?
It annoys me that elementalists got a revamp and engineers got left out to dry.
I think we’re the least-liked class by Anet. We’re not one of the original classes, and we aren’t a cool Dungeons and Dragons class type (Thieves are Thieves and Guardians are Clerics).
I can’t believe you’re saying ‘poor Engineers’ because they’re not covered under the 4 Dungeons and Dragons archetypes, lol. Yes, Anet clearly hates all Engineers. That’s like saying an Artist probably least likes his second painting, because if he really liked it, he would have painted that concept first. lolololol.
I don’t see that comparison at all. He’s basing his opinion on the treatment of engineer, not on the time it was created.
I can only speak from experience so I don’t pretend to be an expert. I’m like an 85/15% pve/WvW player. In PvE I think we are one of the weaker ones. To me it all comes down to the chances of getting up.
I’ve played Warrior, Guardian, ranger, thief and ele and we seem to have the least chance of getting back up out of them. though thief isn’t that great either if I remember correctly. I don’t like the long charge time on our #2 and 3 skills. In WvW I’ve been stomped multiple times before I could even get the 2 skill off, though as I only play engi in WvW, maybe that’s a problem for most classes. The explosion skill is alright, and if I survive long enough it’s nice to have 2 interrupts in WvW but in PvE it doesn’t seem all that great. Maybe I’m just spoiled by ele downed and warrior. (vengeance traited to 100% chance to come back on kill is real nice)
ty for your answers, didn’t know about the cooldown on turrets, just don’t use them enough. It’s funny though, in GW1 I never really cared about how things looked. But here I really want to show off my backpieces that I worked for. Or my legendary visual effects even when holding a kit.
First about game play. Is there really any point to picking up turrets? It seems if you picked them up you should be able to cast them quicker, but I don’t believe that is the case.
Secondly, does ANET not know what to do with us? They seem to be making engineers better, for the most part, but it seems our biggest concerns (IE back pieces, etc.) are ignored, we got one dev post about it a while back but since then nothing.
Let me translate what this seems like to Engineer Mains:
There is a new reward for high-level fractals, it can be used by all professions but 1.
This is either an intentional exclusion, because Engineers represent such a small segment of the player population.
Or worse, they simply forgot about Engineer mains.
Get your act together, and stop neglecting this profession.
I dont think forgetting is worst then purposely leaving out. The last one takes willfull malicious intent.
And i think its simply a case of they forgot. We know they spend very little time thinking on how such new mechanics would interact with different professions (lol perplexity), and i’d be willing to bet that most arenanet devs dont even know there is actually a profession that doesnt have any signets at all. They forgot, okay that can happen. Darn shame it seems to always be Engineers they forget about…
But what i find far more offensive is how they respond to it when this oversight is pointed out to them. The first response is basicly “lol we dont care”.
Then the second response is “honest guys, we didnt forget about engineers we really know exactly what we are doing and its working exactly as we intented… but we didnt deliberately exclude you. We just dont care enough to bother”.
See I was wondering about how this came about. Now if this rune isn’t account bound then it really isn’t that bad. We can at least sell it. But when they decided to make this a reward for high level fractals, did someone in that meeting even think “hey this is pretty much useless for engineers” or did they just forget about it. Engineers seem to be an afterthought often in this game, and as has been stated very nicely above we feel left out of alot of things. We don’t get much in the way of feedback from ANET which only adds to our frustration. I can honestly say I love playing engineer, I would love it much more if I could get the benefits from endgame content that all the other classes get.
Just do what I do Report, Block rinse, repeat. And when I’m feeling saucy, I just block THEN report.
can’t let it go, gotta bump it!
Thank you for the response Anthony glad to see you didn’t mean it as an offense, also glad to see that you have laid out the reasoning for why you at anet have decided to implement it this way, maybe to get people to use signets for things other than just their passive effect? but even so with all of this the engineer community in this game feels left out in many areas, as much of the end game is about customization, we lose out on the customization of our back piece, and our weapons generally through the main power of the engineer comes through kits which hide all of these things, we have been left out on the update to damage through kits to upgrade them to ascended level, and now we feel like we are being excluded from more newly introduced rewards to the game (first through different back pieces, but now through stats with a rune set that we are the only class excluded from its “full item set” benefit).
It just feels like the straws are piling up and many engineer’s backs are getting tired.
I couldn’t have said it better myself. Thank you for putting it out there in a nice way. I would add (not implying anyone else feels this way) that the lack of any kind of answers about these issues from ANET make it all much worse. It makes engi feel like an after thought to me.
First let me say that I am not the most skilled player in the game, but to me engineer is my favorite class by far.
I’d like to start with the good, I believe we are by far the most versatile class. We can do many things that other classes can’t do. We can heal, dps, and our conditions are amazing among other things.. Though each class can do one of these things better. We can do it all.
I think Engineer’s versitility makes it one of the more fun class, I’ve played them all and I always go back to engi.
The bad
I could make this list long of all the things that bother me but the thing that annoys me the most is we have to give up a slot skill for a good weapon set. I don’t see pistol or rifle being anything special, and don’t see any other class with a weapon set so pathetic, which leads to us using kits. In the healing kit this isn’t anything bad, it’s actually quite sweet, but if we want to use bombs or grenades or flame thrower we have to give up a condition removal, or something else. I know we have our f1-f4 skills but they don’t seem to make up for it. (except for med kit) I would love to see us have a weapon switch where we could put a kit. Don’t see it happening but would be really nice.
The ugly
Of course it’s the hobo sack. come on ANET, I want to make my engi look good, but no matter what I do, I have to look at that ugly brown thing the entire time. Please do something about that. We’ve been complaining about it since day one, and we get nothing. Is it any wonder we feel that engineer is an after thought to you?
