Is this game growing?

you determine growth by what you see in pve and wvw ._.

the Game is growing, quiet steadily actually, in fact is anets recent infograph, I think 3.5 million copies were sold and 450k players active at a given time, compared to last decembers 3mil and 300k or soemthing like that, so yes, its growing, suprisingly too for an Mmo in the Summer, a time where Mmos are light on numbers

Fine print says it’s during the initial 9 months not? (obviously the sweet spot for their sales) I’m talking about what has happened in the last 3-4 months where a lot of things have gone downhill for some people. Also, 9 months in is just at where sky pirates starting rolling out.

SpehssMerhreen – I’m not determining growth, I’m just asking whether other people can feel the change or not. There is no concrete way for us players to determine whether this game is really growing or not, it will vary with server and without hard numbers, all we can do is estimate.

why would you only have mf gear to begin with? You are just being selfish and contributing very minimal to the team running with that.

He has another set for real purposes. Come on guys. Eyes.

Sorry, but still, farming in the world should be the least rewarding. There should be no need for MF.

They should be working on their broken asfuq Risk vs. Reward system.

I’ll probably repeat this phrase with the time to come, the gw2 we had come to know, the gw2 we had come to expect, unofficially died on it’s very first birthday, along with the departure of robert. However, fear not! the remaining anet members are excited to release you, Grind Wars 2!.

Guesting Abuse Punishments?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lafiel.9372

Lafiel.9372

and who would be doing the handpicking which players are really abusive ones ?

In previous incidents A-net has set a number and anyone over that number of abuses were punished.

No, nobody will be punished because nothing was exploited.

So you feel that using guesting (which was intended for you to play with your friends) to basically act as a server transfer to farm more event chests isn’t exploiting?

You’re not actually farming more chest, but you’re allowed to do them quicker. In fact, I believe one of the reasons guesting was implemented was to allow low population servers to do events they couldn’t do because of their low population. And it is also why the thread of where which server has a open temple of bathazar is promoted.

Being able to take every alt to do more events than you would be able to on just your own server (due to respawn times) would net you more ecto’s total. It is also faster if you do the guesting as well.

It would only be just faster if you had a few alts able to do these events.

Thus as you have said yourself, this is an alt issue and having alts is not an exploit. It is people who have worked more than others and have more level 80 characters. Therefore, the issue is having the reward too rewarding (thus the account bound change).

Let me just put something into perspective here for people who are arguing about ascended vs exotics.

Originally, we had only ascended trinkets. To do the math, this is approximately, 12 % increase.

Okay, so how much stats are we talking about then?

If we just consider the trinkets, that means that each stat gains approximately 11 stats per selection. I.e. each trinket gains an extra 33 stats and this is roughly the same for every trinket type regardless of stats. I use the term approximate because the stats vary a bit depending on the type and primary stat. In total, taking 33 as the true amount, we’re getting an extra 33×6 = 198 stats. with
66 more stats each in each stat category on average.

Let’s using a popular PPT example here.

66 extra precision gives about 3 % more critical chance
66 power gives 66 more damage
66 toughness gives 66 more armor.

Not too bad for trinkets. seems like a 12 % increase is significant (it’s almost like wearing an extra exotic trinket)

So how does this affect our weapons then?

so i’m not too sure what exactly the stats will be like bet lets assume it’ll be approximately 10 % based on a calculated guess from dulfy’s preview, similar to the trinkets. So that means we’ll get approximately 19×6 = 114. so no biggy.

Again if let’s look at how this affects our stats in for PPT.

so 38 precision is ~2 % crit chance
38 power is 38 damage
38 toughness is another 38 armor.

So what are we at now?

Power we’re at 104 extra, which is an extra 104 damage
Precision we’re at 104, an extra ~5 % crit chance
toughness, we’re at 104, an extra 104 armor.

Thinking about this as trinkets, that’s 1-2 extra exotic trinkets we’re equipping now. So think about this stat increase as having 8 trinkets or (7 1/2 if you want to be slightly more accurate).

Okay no problem, how bout lets look at far in the future, when the ascended armor comes out. I’m just going to crudely calculate them. Assuming a 11 stat increase per stat as per usual. We’re looking at about 33 per item and we have 6 pieces. So that’s 33×6 = 198.

The perspective is similar to the trinkets, so basically another ~3 % crit chance 66 damage, 66 armor.

So to add it all up by the end of all the ascended upgrades and we EXCLUDE the potential for infusion stats

That is approximately a total of:

170 power = 170 damage
170 precision = ~8% crit chance
170 toughness = 170 armor

I’ll leave it to everyone to decide whether these stats are enough to call for a significant advantage or not.

Did any of you do another event prior to fighting dragon? It’s possible you’re hitting the DR if you completed another event beforehand.

No, most of the time the only other event I did was another dragon event 3 hours before. In fact, I tried doing an event before hand in teq first to see if i get reduced EXP and I didn’t (the one closest to him with the 5 minutes defence against the krait). Surprisely, that particular time, I got chest from him. That is a pretty steep DR if I hit it for doing almost nothing before hand lol.

Also, I didn’t know DR makes the chest disappear o.O

Both of you are making the assumption that abusive, disrespectful post have nothing to learn from.

Nobody is making that assumption.

The point is that well-written posts have more to learn from, and are more worth reading most of the time. Rants are written to vent frustration, not to open a dialogue that you can learn from.

Again, you’re making the assumption that only well written respectful post have the most to learn from and the disrespectful post which are “rants written to vent frustration” have nothing to learn from? I used the word nothing because it’s either you agree that there is nothing and stand by this point thus making all disrespectful post useless in your eyes, or you agree there is something to learn from them but you see them as mostly useless because they’re hard to swallow.

Pick one or the other, because the latter means there is something to learn from but Anet isn’t professional enough to handle severe negative feedback thus coming back to the sugarcoating point.

In my eyes, you can learn something from everything. Even in the most vulgar and disrespectful post, there is always a reason tied to it. No one really vents frustration without any sort of explanation. There is almost always a reason. e.g. kitten kitten kitten, why is this game such a grind fest, kitten kitten kitten. No one just says, kitten kitten kitten and leave it at that.

Gem Price Plummet?

That’s nothing like what I said. No one is going to deny that Guild Wars 2 isn’t 100% free market, it doesn’t sound like you know what I’m even talking about.

When you say something like…

The price of gems has been confirmed to be completely controlled by ArenaNet

You’re implying that they directly set the gem cost. They say "100 gold = 100 gems, and that’s that. That is “completely control” of the price.

They obviously do not do that. We’re all confused as to how did you jump from “GW2 isn’t a free market” to “Anet completely controls gem prices.”

I already apologized for not clearly expressing my thoughts, I meant “ultimately” not “completely.”

We’re all confused as to how did you jump from “GW2 isn’t a free market” to “Anet completely controls gem prices.”

No one should be confused by that, everyone can see that I posted one before the other, not the other way around. I realized I needed to better explain and I did.

You can only say, ultimately, anet can control the gem price indirectly. i.e. they can shift the market depending on patches, fixes, new content etc. But what they’re not doing is… hmm price for gold to gem ratio is too high, lets make it lower, which is what you’ve been heavily implying based on what you said.

Best gear obtained by the worst activities

Lafiel.9372

The first point I’m wondering. Anet once said, a few years ago that they didn’t like the whole crafting thing as it was in all mmo’s. I’m not seeing any difference since it’s still a terrible, not fun, time consuming activity I like to avoid in Guild Wars 2.

With the upcoming patch it seems like there’s no avoiding crafting anymore. I think it’s an awful decision to make the new ascended gear only available through crafting. Yes yes, people say you don’t really need to have those ascended gear cause they’re a little bit better than exotics. Well.. if you count 6 armor pieces with some weapons, the difference will be quite significant.

Why wasn’t it just possible to make the better and new gear available through ‘fun’ activities. Make them available at dungeon vendors for higher prices than exotics as a simple alternative which still isn’t much fun. I just can’t believe it, it’s only starting to create a distance between me and the game, and make me think people have to much advantage over me. And to be honest.. who in this world seriously enjoys crafting…?

Because all the employees with good dreams, ideas and imagination have been terminated.

Jokes aside, crafting is okay, it’s the time gated stuff that is a extremely cheap way to sell off content which “last”.

Server Match up is terrible

Lol, right now the pattern for what SoS is experiencing is this. Huge TC zerg come in, faceroll everything. Even the MOST well sieged garrison or tower only helps to slow them down by a few minutes. Eventually, they own our whole borderland and they laugh and dance around for a bit before they move on to another borderland or EB. So here I am with about 5-10 players max, slowly taking back the borderland. Once we reach finally take back our garrison and one keep, the TC zerg comes right back and does the exact same thing. With little time and supply to put any defense up, we get facerolled again and of course, some fellow players love playing the blame game or calling you incompetent even though they don’t understand what we’re doing here is courageous and that what they want us to accomplish is a miracle.

I was leading for about 4-5 hours that day, not admitting defeat, doing what I can and trying my best to take back what we can with the forces we have. But yeah, the difference in numbers is just so overwhelming. Here we’re struggling to get a hand full of players in our OWN borderland and they have enough to hand around for all 3.

I miss the old match ups now…

I think what the devs want us to do to fix their problem is to throw the game for several weeks, lose heaps of rating so we can finally fight in tiers in which we belong or keep fighting hard and getting our kitten kicked and slowly lose rating into where we belong. Either way, it’s going to put a lot of ppl off wvw during that process.

Prices of Ectos being controlled?

Lafiel.9372

Wauw, so… if I read this graph correctly…

1,400 people sold 1 ecto.
1 person sold more than 2,544 ectos.

This game has some SERIOUS problems. I can only assume that people that sell more than -say- 1,000 ectos on one day are somehow tracked and, if they do it consistently, are monitored to see where they come from.

Are you reading the same graph as I am? You seemed to have ignored all the people in between 2544 and 1 ecto and then suggested that there is a serious problem because the red line is touching the x axis. From what I can tell, there is only a slight bump in 250 ectos and that’s 1 stack which is normal. Beyond that it seems to be pretty close to 0 than 1 to me hmm.

Being serious, the OP is making a pretty silly generalization. His generalization is based on the assumption that legendary owners farmed all day and night and suck at doing everything else. What he doesn’t realise is that,

A. people didn’t farm day in day out.
B. Time played actually does has a relationship with player skill. In general more time = more experience = more skilled (unless you’re a bad apple).
C. Everything is puggable.

To finish off, your view of legendary people being bad players who don’t know how to play as a group is as bias and racist as me assuming you’re American because you are typing in english though I probably have a better chance of being right than your legendary stereotyping lol.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Does anyone dual/multi-box?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lafiel.9372

Lafiel.9372

What would be so hard about setting down a wall of fire with an Ele and getting a Ranger behind it to shoot some arrows? Or other similar scenarios? Like anything else, it would get easier with practice. The peripherals we discussed above would help too.

I wouldn’t expect to be as good as two separate players each playing a single character. With time, my goal is to be able to to play 2 toons as well as I play 1 toon. I’d have the added benefits of being able to trigger my own combos, being able to revive myself as long as one toon is left standing, being able to gather more materials, and just the joy of being able to see 2 of my Sylvari running around Tyria together.

As stated by the poster above, I too used to multibox similarly in previous MMOs and have been very successful with it. However, as many players have mentioned above, there is a lot of elements in gw2 which does not allow you to do this effectively, mainly the amount of action/movement required in gw2 is much higher. Sure you can pop down basic combos such as wall of fire you mentioned or other basic combo fields and quickly switch back to whatever main character you prefer to combo with but ultimately this will not be effectively done. You will have 1 character always in a semi compromised state because it can only use auto attack. Ultimately, you will definitely run into many situations where one of your semi active characters becomes downed and or if you require to maneuver both your characters out of a ground aoe field, which is an extremely difficult task to keep up with.
]
So my conclusion was that it would be much more effective to be proficient with 1 character then to try multibox two and failing in both. As I said, the most effective way to multibox legitmately is by doing world event bosses since tagging them while multiboxing is not a hard task. Playing both effectively in the open world or dungeons etc is just extremely tasking and ultimately not worth it. Of course, this is my personal opinion, if you decide to pursue it then by all means, no one has the right to say otherwise.

To Vayne – not sure how old you are, but I’ve played my share of mmos, games older than runescape I believe. I started out in 2D mmos back in late 90s to early 2000s games like dransik classic now known as ashen empires (i’m surprised it’s still here, really brings back memories as a kid lol). Korean games like ragnarok online etc, all of them showed players online back then. This is just a couple examples, i’m sure there are more out there. I think there are several other issues I would have hoped that they had addressed too, such as precursor prices but I mean it’s not bad for a march update. Also it seems the achievement leader-board won’t useable until they gather enough data if my understanding of it is correct?

There seems to be some significant class adjustments, mostly in the engineering section.

One of the biggest nerfs in this patch seems to be quickness (100 % to 50 %).

The "Inspect Gear" Discussion.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lafiel.9372

Lafiel.9372

So first off, for those who don’t know what it is.

“Inspecting gear” is a feature where you can check anyones gears in a UI. By right clicking or something else.

My view on this:

It would make it easier to check out someones gear if you’re curious. You wouldn’t have to link every piece.

But then again, It would also increase the level of “gear checking” for dungeons, etc. At that would pollute the community. “You must have x gear to enter this group”. Just like the “You have to be warrior to join this group”, only worse.

It would also make it easier to bash somone because of their gear.

These are the only things i can think about when it comes to this topic.

So, i ask you.

Should it be implented? Or not? Give us your opinion!

This will lead to this sort of situation:

Person A: Uh hum, I see you’re not wearing a berserker exotic gear instead you’re wearing a knights exotics gear. In my opinion this is not good enough and you will be letting the team down.
Person B: I’m wearing knights gear because it synergises well with my traits, I actually will be doing the same/similar if not more damage in the big picture wearing these gear.

Person A: No you are wrong, I am party leader so i’m always correct. Berserker GOD rwar rawr awr. RESPECT MAA AUTHORITYYY
Person B: …. whut?

Thus the elitist syndrome: Thinking you know better than another player because you’re a 1337.

Also, lack of gear inspection also promotes privacy and basic social skills. e.g. if I or someone likes me armor, I would pm them (they pm me) and ask what i’m wearing. I would then kindly link them this armor and we would have a small chat and thank each other and be on our way. Whereas inspect gear would just be, right click, oh thats the armor and it would feel like you kitten them without them even knowing :o

The real problem is right now, we have clear evidence that DR is causing issues with the dragon chest to the extent it is not even spawning since the 28th Jan patch. This is clearly not working as intended and is grieving players every minute this bug exist. God knows all the hundreds of chest lost by players everyday. I for one have lost at least 10 chest. Lafiel.9372

That’s why I thought when that Anet guy posted a post basically saying if you’re not positive (attitude) with your feedback, we’re not going to look into it, it felt extremely extremely unprofessional. Sure, you’re not obliged to reply to negative feedback but you, as a company, as a professional, should be able to look past the negative aspects and extract the useful information from it and move on. To ignore negative feedback is ignoring feedback completely because you can’t always sugarcoat everything in life. When I get manuscripts back, the comments surely aren’t sweetened up, they dont’ go … oh yea… great job… but u know that one part, you should kinda change it to maybe this…not saying it’s bad and all but… They straight up say, this feels unfinished or irrelevant. Most of the time they even speak their mind about how they felt this piece of work was compiled if it was particularly displeasing. How do I deal with it?, I read through all the feedback critically, make the changes that I agree in accordance to the reviewers suggestions and become a more experienced researcher for it.

Sure some people are kinder than others, I find it hard to give negative feedback to someone directly, even if it is on paper, but not everyone is made like that. Some people have been through this over and over again and they’ve got no more patience left to sugarcoat everything. Obviously, in this scenario, perhaps many players feel they’ve experienced this kind of poor experience from other games and have been just about fed up with it, some people are just plain overreacting. But to simply ask for only constructive feedback just shows how thin your skin is.

Sugarcoating has nothing to do with it.

There’s one person that basically keeps making exactly the same post every time he replies to something. The words change a bit, but the meaning is always “your game sucks and you suck”. That’s not feedback, and it’s not criticism.

You don’t have to kiss anyone’s butt, you just need to post something usable.

I don’t know about that but a lot of the time people express their reasons at the same time as writing their abusive post. However abusive it may be, the reasons should be considered professionally without being thrown into the trash because they were not written constructively. Like I said, some people just don’t have patience left. Ever been jerked around by customer support so much that you just get reallllly realllly kitten ed off? Try ringing your internet service provider? “yes sir, we have put that order in for you, a technician is scheduled to come to your place in the next 2-3 days”, ring back 4 days later, new guy says, there is no such order placed under your account. Ha ha ha…

You get what i’m saying? I don’t promote abusive feedback, I’m just saying, don’t ignore it, don’t fight it, extract what’s useful and move on.

I’ve semi quit a long time ago, the only reason i’m still here is to do the daily and maybe the odd dungeon on a rare occasion and then move on to do something else. I mean, for 10 months, I’ve got my moneys worth but if anet wants to get more support from me, they better start fixing things and giving me more reasons to keep supporting them.

2500 points?

2500 is a bit much for an achievement that is timegated to 2 weeks. Even if it is well and obtainable within 1-2 whole day of playing, in retrospec, it is a lot more time consuming than other similar ones. All in all, if I had to judge the content dished out by evon or kiel, kiel won by a lot. I’m near the point I wish the loser which I hope will be evon gets hung on a stake and thrown eggs, shot arrows repeatedly and left out to dry to starvation.

IMO Toss Crab minigame isn't fun!

The achievement is a bit hard considering the lag fest though, so i’ll give this thread a somewhat valid point.

suspended for foul language??

Hi all, my first post in here.

Just got thrown out of the game and found out i’d been given a lovely 71 hour suspension for inappropriate language. Just makes me feel all warm and tingly to know that someone from my team did this to me (have a very close match up this week in www).

My question is, if the game has a “#¤%!”%#"!% swearing filter on it, why punish me if some kitten donkey kitten has turned it off and then gets ‘offended’ over my words?
They made a choice to turn it off, i did not do it for them. So i propose my suspension to be removed, and the ‘offended’ to be banned instead on the basis of false report.

that is all.

It’s funny how many times people who get banned for foul language uses this argument and how many times it gets shot down with, “language filter doesn’t mean you have a license to swear”.

Making Magic Find Useful

in Suggestions

Posted by: Lafiel.9372

Lafiel.9372

When you put stats > player skills that’s where people are wrong. Sure, stats are important, but it’s not because of the magic find that people are compromising the team. Survivability in regards to stats is a secondary to player skill during boss fights. What it does give you is more room for “mistakes” and no amount of stats is going to help you if you don’t know what you’re doing (you may think you do and blame others though, common mistake!).

So a typical scenario in dungeon is, 5 people happily fighting a boss. 4 people wear “proper” gear while 1 guy wears magic find gear. magic find gear guy times the correct dodges, uses the right skill and does maximum DPS his gear provides and only sacrifices his toughness stat to replace magic find. 4 people wearing “proper” gear gets downed and magic find guy is still up and fighting. Unable to revive all 4 downed players, eventually magic find player downs too and team wipes. Whose fault is it? Is it the 4 players who had proper gear but didn’t have enough skill to hold their own and survive through the fight or the guy with magic find who died at the end doing just as much dps as anyone of his class but was let down by his other 4 members?

Bottom line, if a guy is bad, no amount of stat is going to save him.

I know this is an old argument but I simply don’t have time to address each of your posts. So I’m gonna use it anyway.

IF YOU DON’T LIKE THE GAME, GET THE F—- OUT! You all make such a big.frieking.deal about EVERY LITTLE THING. They add new equipment and your first instinct is to shout BROKEN BROKEN BROKEN! Yes. Honestly you’d think that every one of you is a game developer who knows exactly how everything works and needs to be balanced. You know nothing. NOTHING.

Wrong on so many levels. Your argument here is weak because you haven’t even attempted to discuss the reason why except stating that a game developer is always right, which only shows how little you actually know. I assure you, game developers are human too, and humans are easily enticed by greed.

By the way, I think your post is an infraction hm?

The biggest fail of this SAB is that it’s too long. The last SAB was hugely successfuly because it was right for the majority of the player base. It didn’t feel like a huge grind and it was somewhat fun. Even the achievements were mostly doable and fun to explore.

SAB world 2 is nothing like that, I seriously wish anet would stop using the jumpy and KB like mechanics for the waterfall and stuff. It just doesn’t work very well but aside from that, the worlds are just way too long. Before people go coming in saying you’re complaining about more content?, let me remind you that LESS is MORE sometimes. It’s not about the quantity, a point expressed to the devs many times, it’s about the QUALITY. The current worlds have levels which are so long and have so many mobs that it’s almost impossible to clear without having to kill at least half of them. Sure, this may be the way it was originally intended but why couldn’t you make the levels shorters (i.e. shorter checkpoints). This would give players more room to breath and have breaks in between.

The other thing is, getting mobbed on respawn, a lot of the time, those respawn points are very deadly. There is preexisting mobs that if you didn’t kill or were going for an achievement you left alone get aggreod on respawn with nothing you can do. Good example is the angry hillbillies in zone 1. I think 99 % of games have respawn points which are basically designed to be safe from any enemy encounters, at least for a small duration but nope, not here, i might be invulnerable for a couple of seconds on respawn but they still get aggroed.

This SAB would have been so much better if you divided the content into better sections instead of making it a couple of massive sections that have a lot of running if you die.

Also, the one hit mechanics, many times i’ve said this is a very cheap mechanic and learning by death is almost never the right answer. The dev above responded that this was his “decision call” and we’re free to disagree with it and yes, I disagree with it.

I guess the first one was successful because it was new, innovative and they wanted to get it right. Now when they made the second one, they’re just throw in a bigger team, a bigger budget and demand lengthier contents and say yup, that’s what players want. Like the say, the sequels are always crap until the next fresh reboot.

Guesting and Overflow [merged]

As I have mentioned in many post, guesting are put on lower priority while in guested server. So they are put in overflow FIRST. Therefore, the maps are in overflow because your server is overcrowded by your own people and are made up of mostly your own people… The guest ratio is likely 9:1 at best (1 being the guest).

Is precursor crafting going to happen or not?

Precursor price is fine at what they are now, in fact, I think it should be higher. Being bless by the RnG gods is an important prereq for welding a legendary. After all, luck is one of the greatest virtues a hero can have (no sarcasm).

I have no problem with rng because when I was young, my mother dipped me into the lake of rng. My only weakness is at the ankle, where she held onto me so that spot was not blessed and she had not thought about double dipping at that time. Luckily, I rarely use my ankle to play games.

a t s e, you were being an elitist the moment you claimed to know a better weapon build than another. The guy was an elitist by asking you to change weaps for DPS reasons. (there are other logical recommendations which aren’t elitist comments, for example, asking a guard to use a staff in TA, or run focus as an ele in specific bosses/dungeonsetc).

In the end, you both as you say “fail” since either weapon is viable and has perfect reasons to be used.
