No no guys! ascended gear was meant to be implemented at launch, anet just was extremely slow with it. You can tell it was designed to be made for launch because everything was balanced around ascended gear… no wait what am I talking about?
TL: DR This game is worthless because it has things in it that I don’t like. If you disagree with me you are stupid. No response necessary, I’m just looking for attention.
Basically this. I probably would have had more respect for the OP if he admit that it was his personal dislike of the game rather then trying to blame anet for not making a game to HIS liking and that he is either too young or closed off to enjoy the 8 bit games of his time.
Hello, it’s me again.
After spending much time and quite a bit of money on tickets, I also have finally finished these achievements.
I am just going to write a written guide and tips and tricks to this boss for now. I may add a video guide later when I have time.
First of all, if some of you don’t know already (I think most people may realise this after awhile) not all the arenas are the same. Yes i’m looking at you Anet. You and you super awesomely designed challenges. What better idea than to hang super tiny arenas in a really wide range area so we have to render all sorts of crap to lower our FPS. (sarcasm intended). Oh what you know what’s the worst thing, the arenas aren’t all the same! To be more specific, only the NORTH 2 areas are actually USEABLE for the fight against Liadri. Do you know why? you ever wonder why sometimes that white swirl that spawns at a corner seem to be NOT as close to the edge and sometimes HALF way into the edge. Well it’s because of the arena design isn’t perfectly shaped or the aoes are positioned slightly off in all the REST of the areas except for the north 2. So that kittened up kitten they said we only had to wait at most ~2 mins per fight for a 75 player instance is total kitten. Now, if this post does get the knowledge to the people out there, we’re going to be seeing a lot higher queues in these arenas and make the whole waiting time 3x longer.
This comes to my second biggest tip, no matter what super awesome graphic card you’re on… TURN YOUR GRAPHICS ALL THE WAY DOWN. I’m running on a HD7870 and my FPS lowers to about 17-20 with settings up. You need every drip of FPS you can grab for these fights.
Okay, onto the fights. As you may have also realised, the way the boss aoes and the way the swirls spawn are always the same. The best way to start off and get a guaranteed Phase 1 pass is by first killing the first orb u see then sitting near the first swirl. More specifically, if you’re standing at the edge of the arena and the swirl is right in front of you, you should be on the RIGHT side of it. A bunch of aoes will spawn to your left and after they’re done, quickly move to the LEFT of the swirl. An illusion should be approaching you and you should be able to pick up the blazing light and throw it at her. Proceed to the next swirl and hide behind it to lure the next illusion over. Watch out for the aoe that spawns. There should be one which covers the swirl and you can hide next to it before standing behind it again. There should be plenty of time to chuck the light and then quickly dodge roll PAST the illusion and behind the swirl.
What you want to do is to be fairly back from the swirl but still luring the illusions in the right direction. There should be 3 approaching. If you get lucky, you may be able to get both but chances are only one of them popped. What you want to do is keep lurign those illusions away from the light a bit as another AOE strikes at the location the blazing light is atm. Once that Aoe is over, quickly run over and grab the light and chuck it on the middle pepz. The next swirl should be directly opposite the last swirls location.
Okay, P2. Here comes the fun part. If you’re thinking of getting the 8 orbs achievement, as funny as it may be a high dps character is not what you want. In fact, the best class to do this surprise surprise is the guardian. This is because you actually need to tank quite a bit of damage dished out while avoiding the illusions.
Firstly, something about the aoe patterns. in P1, the aoes cover 25 % of the arena, in p2 the aoes cover 50 % of the arena (not 90 % that some people overly exaggerate it to be). The pattern is always the same, it basically just alternates so you can kind of figure out where to stand (and this is very important) and where to run every time. This is something you have to develop. You have to know the pattern like the back of your hand.
That’s why I thought when that Anet guy posted a post basically saying if you’re not positive (attitude) with your feedback, we’re not going to look into it, it felt extremely extremely unprofessional. Sure, you’re not obliged to reply to negative feedback but you, as a company, as a professional, should be able to look past the negative aspects and extract the useful information from it and move on. To ignore negative feedback is ignoring feedback completely because you can’t always sugarcoat everything in life. When I get manuscripts back, the comments surely aren’t sweetened up, they dont’ go … oh yea… great job… but u know that one part, you should kinda change it to maybe this…not saying it’s bad and all but… They straight up say, this feels unfinished or irrelevant. Most of the time they even speak their mind about how they felt this piece of work was compiled if it was particularly displeasing. How do I deal with it?, I read through all the feedback critically, make the changes that I agree in accordance to the reviewers suggestions and become a more experienced researcher for it.
Sure some people are kinder than others, I find it hard to give negative feedback to someone directly, even if it is on paper, but not everyone is made like that. Some people have been through this over and over again and they’ve got no more patience left to sugarcoat everything. Obviously, in this scenario, perhaps many players feel they’ve experienced this kind of poor experience from other games and have been just about fed up with it, some people are just plain overreacting. But to simply ask for only constructive feedback just shows how thin your skin is.

Cute… Then after the guaranteed rare (why don’t give us directly 1 ecto or 22 silver instead? O yes, because that way we need to buy Black Lion Salvage Kits… And btw, good move nerfing the ectos drop from kits, now it can happens to exotics don’t even give one ecto.) the chest will be back giving loads of useless green and blue crap.
Good move ANet, good move.
Sighs……. no nerf was done to the ectos… why do people keep spreading these lies… They have stated if they ever touch the ectos they will definitely tell us. Sometimes, I pity Anet on the player base they have to work with…

Okay, so what I’ve said so far is pretty standard, no biggy. There are 3 big factors which kill us in this arena. I find the pull is the least of our worry. The biggest worry is the one hit kill illusions and the conditions applied by the boss. Cripple is extremely deadly in this arena especially when you have to make it to the safe zone in time. When those illusions stack up, it can be really hard to have enough space to pick up the blazing light. So what can we do?
Well, one thing we can take advantage of is the kamikaze illusions. What you need to do is make sure you tag every single one of those illusions. Usually I just use GS whirl as a guard and what happens is that when those illusions pop you instant rally. it’s so quick you won’t even glimpse your downstate. The 2nd thing you need to do is to keep up that retaliation. That is going to be your main dps against the boss with occasional GS swirl hits to get her low while you salvage those blazing lights. Because of how fast her attacks are, retaliation works extremely well against her and being a guard, you naturally are tanky.
One huge advantage as a guard is that you have gs leap. Turn off that autotarget and use GS leap as an extra distance closer so that you can make point a to b in time. It really is a game changer.
Some advice on food is Orrian truffle meat stew (soemthing like that can’t remember exactly) it’s the one that gives might on dodge and endurance 40 % + regen. The 2nd best is condition duration -40 % the lemongrass food, the last is mango pie which gives health regen. The last one is the cheapest but the first two are a lot better. For faultily food, your best choice is quality maintenance oil (or the higher tiers for the extra %). Now if you got spare boosters lying around, regen and speed booster will really boost your game here. The regen especially as it really helps to keep that HP up while you’re getting attacked by the boss.
(edited by Lafiel.9372)
Another tip on luring the illusions is, once in awhile they will spawn RIGHT behind a swirl, so if you keep your eyes on them, you actually don’t have to lure the bunch following you but just make sure you’re in the direction which will allow that illusions behind the swirl to walk into it. I find by the time I get to the 5th orb, Liadri should be be around 20 % hp and you just need to burst her down and not die for the next 8 seconds in order to win.
Some recommendation for guard is that, block skills work on everything against that boss. So the heal skill shelter is way better than that signet you’ve been using everywhere else. My line up for shout build with shelter, save yourself, stand your ground and speed buff aegis shout with of course, renewed focus (is that what it’s called? i don’t look at the skill names these days). The traits I used was 0/0/30/30/10 though some people may prefer 0/0/10/30/30.
The key if you’re a guard is to keep that retaliation up. Try use a combo finisher (light + leap) to get more retaliation.
This fight favors certain classes a lot and sure Anet couldn’t have balanced this for everyone.. oh wait? no what am I saying? YES they could have, they just could have NOT added a 1 hit element. Make it 1/2 of their health of 3/4 of their health. Then aegis and blocks wouldn’t be such a kitten big deal but what do I know.
Final notes, I’ll try get a video up to show you how my tactic is, it does get messy in p2, especially when you’re just trying to get those 5 extra orbs but yeah. In addition to all the bugginess these arenas (like having two bosses at once because the last boss didn’t refresh properly and yes this STILL happens quite often after their patch). I’m willing to wager most of the anet guys can’t do the 8 orb challenge but I guess they’re not the standard for “challenging” content. But, using kitten camera angle and selling it off as challenging content is pretty cheap in my opinion. Stick to your monthly content updates maybe even every 2 months. I rather WAIT the 2 months then get thrown an extremely buggy as hell version.
Oh yeah, put the people working on crap that really matters, like permanent content? GvG? WvW fixes? How bout that LFG tool? Seriously, if you guys didn’t have gw2lfg.com (which you should really be PAYING for their help) people would be 100x more annoyed at your game. 1 year in and NO LFG tool. I remember half a year ago, you guys were like, oh yeah, it’s almost complete~ yeah, we just had a few bugs to iron out, we have an idea for one that helps people look for groups but at the same time doesn’t take out the interacting aspect out of it~. Haha…
Anyways good luck to everyone and remember. Achievements are optional. Don’t play into their evil scheme like I did. However, if this keeps going, eventually we’ll all reach a point where we go, that’s it. I quit.
Something I forgot to mention is to turn post processing off if you haven’t already with your settings at minimum. It’s hard to give a good tip on how to improve aoe visibility since this is anet’s fault but I do understand some people have a harder time seeing the aoes than others. The only thing I can recommend is, try to stay away from the edges. It is actually best to stay somewhere around the middle because from there you can access all four quadrants of the arena without having to run a long distance.
Almost 99 % of the time, people die because they’re caught out of position and have run out of dodges + cripple. So try not to get yourself in that situation. If you DO get yourself in that, try aoe all the illusions around you and you may be able to pull off a instant rally.
With the orbs, try mind your surroundings and kill them as soon as you can see them or pop stability quick.
(edited by Lafiel.9372)
I dunno, for me, instead of blaming the mechanic, I fight along side with it. If a teammate or enemy is down, I see it as an equal opportunity on both ends. It’s teamwork in the end on whether or not your downed teammate gets the support he needs to stay alive or the enemy side gets the support THEY need to survive. I mean, rally works for both you AND the enemy. It’s not, oh they can rally on our allies but we can’t rally on their allies, it’s double edged. I don’t see how this is “killing communities” if both sides can ultilise this function. It seems more of a “I don’t want to help other people” problem. I.e. you don’t feel like helping what you call PuGs or “weaker team members” and they should look out for themselves.
Similar topics which has debated on this is dungeon play where people say rally is stupid because people usually kill the monster to rally someone instead of reviving them. That is a judgement call and is downright not true. Most dungeons, people will actually prefer to revive or sometimes what I call half revive (give them help or enough hp to prevent a full down for an incoming rally). Same can be said for pvp.
At the end of the day, I see most people enjoy this teamplay mechanic, most players i’ve seen would try their best to save an ally and the people who complain are the more cereal type players who can’t get enough of their crunchies and like to lookout for only themselves.
What Colin Johanson said (dated 7th March 2013):
Though Johanson accepts the huge outcry and accusations of betrayal from the playerbase were unavoidable, he admits the situation could have been handled better. In actual fact, Ascended Gear isn’t the most powerful gear in the game; it’s just as good as Legendary gear, but takes a fraction of the time to earn. “I think that ascended gear was something we should have had at launch,” Johanson says. “We didn’t have something above that exotic level that you put in a lot of time and earn it, but you don’t have to put in your whole life to earn it like a legendary weapon.
“Is this going to become a gear-tiered game where you’re constantly on this treadmill to chase after that stuff? My hope would be no. I think that certainly in 2013 you’re not going to see another tier of gear.”
Source: http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/03/07/how-guild-wars-2-plans-to-survive
What colin said is a load of kitten to be honest. Firstly, if they admittedly knew ascended gear should have been introduced at launch, then why did they launch? Obviously the game was not ready. Even after one year, they still haven’t been able to launch this so called “true” end game gear properly and we only have the trinkets showing out so say what they may, but it seems very obvious that this ascended gear was proposed as a gear treadmill from the beginning. Other alternatives was to announce to within the first month of launch and make it clear that one new tier will be added soon after.
Secondly, okay, let’s say I buy that stuff for a second there, why is ascended gear implemented SO differently compared to it’s previous tiers. Why not just introduce them as a rarer drop to exotics (with a varies of skins) and have them craftable like normal (no time gating). It’s so obvious with the time gating and expensive materials that the ascended gears objective is to act as a psuedo-end-game content where it can waste or should i say buy them a few more months for players to feel like they’re achieving something.
If we look deep into it, you’ll probably realise that this isn’t worth the TIME or MONEY to make ascended weapons if the players end game objective is to craft a legendary. Since all that TIME and MONEY and MATERIALS that we used for making that ascended weapon, we would probably be 1/8th of the way there and is probably better invested in there and just skip the whole ascended tier completely.
In reality, ascended weapons should have been implemented as just another new set of craftable exotics with maybe decently looking skins. People would have loved and praised anet for it and everyone would be happy. Because really, people don’t care about having higher stats when everyone else is the same, people care about the cosmetic look! Why does anet think people want to grind for MILDLY higher stats in this game, it literally makes no sense when the game is balanced around the current exotics already. It’s either gear progression or no gear progression, if you try to kitten around in between, you just kitten a lot of people off. It’s like dammit what i’m wearing isn’t obsolete but i’ll be at a slight disadvantage when versing another player. Why do you think people made legendaries? It’s not like they had higher stats than exotics. It’s because people love the epic skins!
To finish it off, the worst of the worst is, no where will you be able to find a quote, that anet will claim, yup ascended gear is going to be the final tier. Hell, they even said there is going to be level progression somewhere down the line. Note carefully that all they say is 2013, you’ll only see ascended gear and no new tier. That means, they’re not even going to try stick with their promise at all and they’re purposely leaving it open ended. Heck, it’s probably going to take them the whole year to implement the full set of ascended gear, that sentence saying 2013 is the only tier we’ll be seeing is totally pointless. They may as well have said, because we wasted so much time on temporary content and buggy living stories, we won’t be implementing more than 1 tier of armor this year. Eventually, somewhere down the line, when anet has finally kitten ed everyone off and all that remains is the gear progressioners, then they’ll be pumping out all sorts of kitten armor on steroids.
Seriously, I used to be one of “those” guys who defend this company and game. But over time, I’ve seen their true colours, I’ve seen how deep the rabbit hole goes and I’m enlightened. Enlightened about the fact that they’ve strayed way off track to even recover, that what they do now is to keep their sales figures high and cash rolling in, there is no respect for the players, the story OR the game. I guess like they say, you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villian (me and anet)
(edited by Lafiel.9372)
I’m pretty sure I said months ago that the moment they introduce either level progression or significant armor and weapon progression that’s quits for me.
Thinking back, I don’t know what anet was really talking about initially when they first realise about how violent of a reaction we had against ascended weapons. So what was the idea, to say they admit it was wrong that the implementation was wrong and they won’t be moving forward on it and so they only introduced trinkets etc. However, i’m sure everyone had a feeling that this wasn’t going to be the end. All anet was doing was not saying they’re sorry but instead buying time for us to get USED to the concept that ascended gear is the new tier then slowly “ease” it in until hopefully, we’ve all forgotten about the original focus of the game. We all knew this day was coming, heck, even anet hinted it a couple of times.
This could have been a great game with limitless potentials but yup, damage is done to almost irreversible and it’s just going to accelerate downhill from here…
Wish I could roll back time when it was halloween last year.. I think that was the pinnacle of gw2 for me before it all went down hill ( some brief uphill ) then straight down again.
(edited by Lafiel.9372)
People reasons for leaving the game are extremely strict and weird.
People sometimes dislike someone who is overly genuine and noble because they seem stupid, boring and over the top in their eyes. Most importantly though, is there is a subconscious envy for them for what they couldn’t be.
The biggest problem I have with vsing thieves is that some of my skills can’t be manually targetted. So if the thief is invisible BUT i know where he is, I can’t do anything about it. For instance, I can’t shatter my illusions in a specific AoE targetted location even tho I know the thief is right there. I think this would be a good addition to the game and this is just 1 example of what needs to be available in game.
The JP we have nowadays just isn’t enough now that i’ve experienced the mad king JP. That was one of the best jumping puzzle experiences I had in awhile and now everything else just seems plain kitten easy :o.
Not to mention the theme and sadistic style of the puzzle was awesome, the christmas one, although was fun, just didn’t feel dark enough and was ultimately way too easy.
I hope anet has some big plans for future JP like this and I really hope that when the next halloween comes, it won’t just be a rehash of the old event stuff!
I don’t see the sense why the titles or the skills earned are character bound. PvP levels are account bound :/
The main problem is the camera angle. Making us have a crappy camera angle is NOT a challenge. Why not just make us hav a black screen and fight blind if that’s Anet’s idea of a challenge. I swear, every single of one those challenges will benefit from a bigger and more camera free arena. This is why lupi was never complained about, we had tonnes of space and plenty of freedom. We could SEE what we were doing.
Thing is, this should not be the way DR operates, I am literally hitting DR by NOT doing anything. Seriously, the first thing I do once I get home from work is check dragon timer, login, make some food, kill a dragon and yup, no chest. Somehow not playing the game for a good 10 hours makes me hit DR?
When you see a legendary what you shouldn’t be thinking about is how the player got it or how much money and time they sunk in. Those are all feelings which is really expressing your hidden jealousy torwards them. What you should see is the weapon by itself. If it looks nice to you then you’re like :o else you see it like every other weapon and move on.
rng box which cost 800 gems to buy. 3500 for 5.
I encounter 2 incident that prompt me to contact Gw2’s support recently.
First, when purchasing a super sword skin, I accidentally brought a super greatsword skin. Contact support about switching the skin, but nope, support deny the request. Fine, atleast the skin is account bound and I might use it for one of my alts.
Today I went to purchase a Twilight Arbor medium gloves for my ranger. Because my party is waiting for me in SAB, I am in a rush and brought the light armor gloves instead of medium armor gloves. Contacted support again and again after several hours, support reply that while they like to be able to refund, they cannot do so at this point. So, I am left holding on with light armor gloves that are absolutely useless to me.
Why the heck would you let a medium armor class buy a light armor that is soul bound?
Years ago in another game, LOTRO, I encountered a similar problem. During a festival event I grind enough tokens and silvers to purchase a festival mount. Unfortunately, I purchased a pony, which is only usable by hobbit race, while my character is a human. I was annoyed and contact their support. within 15 mins, a friendly GM contact me and swap the token for me.
Now, thats what I call good support. I was unhappy that their programmer did not do a racial check when purchasing tokens, but the quick fix by their support make the bad experience into a positive one.
After six months of subscription to LOTRO, I was happy enough with my in game experiance that I eventually purchased lifetime membership for 2 accounts. Compare this to Gw2 where aside from launch, I only brought gems with cash once, as a response to culling being fixed in WvW.
Gw2 does not have a subscription, whether I spend cash in it depends heavily on whether I am satisfied with the game or not. The level of support I am receiving however, isn’t making me happy at all.
There are command prompts to prevent these situations…. don’t blame support for not fixing your mess because you couldn’t take another 2 seconds to check what you’re buying…
Yes! I was about the post exactly the same thing! I was lagging so hard when I was in the area of plains of asford and in the dungeon! I thougth it was the internet but I found everywhere else like LA, Frostgorge sound I was playing without any lag at all. I also notice significant lag in heart of the mist.
When I say lag, i’m not saying normal lag, it’s like 30 second delay and I can still see people killing a boss when its been long dead. Also, chat seems to not be affected by lag since I can still talk to my party members real time..
(edited by Lafiel.9372)
So I recently started playing GW2 again. On the first night that I was back in the game, I saw the Molten Alliance Pick on the store. Since it was a limited edition item, it really had me interested (I’m a sucker for that kind of thing). I was concerned about whether or not it was bound to account or bound to a single character, since it says both on the description. After asking in general chat, three separate players confirmed that it was indeed usable by all characters on an account. Here’s where my issues began:
At the time I was playing on a low level alt, and without thinking went ahead and purchased the pick. Later, I discovered that it was indeed soul bound to that character and I was unable to move it to my main, so I submitted a ticket. At first, I asked if it were possible to receive a refund since I bought it unknowing that it was for only a single character, and I was told that this wasn’t possible. Fair enough, since GW2 is a Buy-to-Play game I figured they made money on the store, and offering refunds would really cut into profits, this was perfectly acceptable. However, I politely said that I understood, and asked if I could at least get the pick transferred to my main character, as it’s completely useless sitting on a low level alt that never sees playing time. I was told repeatedly, that it was “impossible” to transfer it. So I asked if they could refund the gems under the sole condition that I spend them on the exact same item, but on my 80 Mesmer. Once again, repeatedly told that they wouldn’t do this.
I don’t get it. I bought the item not understanding that it was a single character item, which is fine – my mistake, I get that refunds aren’t always the best business option. But not allowing me to transfer it onto my main, instead of sitting on a low level character to see no use… that’s absurd. 10$ might not be a lot of money, but I wouldn’t throw a 10$ bill in the garbage either, and that’s essentially what has happened. I even proposed a few separate solutions, all of which involved Anet keeping my 10$, but the pick being moved to my main so I could actually use it, and was refused over and over. So my question is why? What makes it so difficult to take 5 minutes and accomodate customers, yeah it was my mistake but it doesn’t make sense that I have to waste the pick when a solution is so simple.
This is my last ditch effort, if I don’t get any help here, I cannot see myself spending a single cent more in the store. That may not be important to some of you, but it’s a really big deal to me.
Well, i’m just going to say, ignoring the 3 trolls (or maybe a misunderstanding on your part) the mine pick clearly says soulbound on use….
Btw, your title is misleading, it wasn’t bad customer support, it just didn’t do what you wanted them to do. Again, refunds or transfers are rarely offered by Anet unless it was a clear mistake on their part. This was obviously your fault for not taking a second to read the soulbound on use printed clearly on the mine pick description so the support is by no means obligated to help you.
(edited by Lafiel.9372)
I think that if it weren’t for the stupid achievements, people wouldn’t play this poorly designed mini game. I think Anet needs to consider this when they make mini games, are we making this as a chore for the players or will players actually enjoy playing this game without the reward of achievement points?
When i saw the sclerite pack i was blown away by how sweet it was until i realized that everyone is going to have it. While the RNG weapon drop scheme is complete garbage, IMO, i’d like to some of the super awesome items have a little prestige because they are hard to get, whether that means completing harder content or gathering rare mats.
It sucks to get something super awesome and them immediately see 3 other people next to you with it when you port to LA.
If it was super hard to get, chances are, you won’t be the one to get it, thus, your thread would then be, WHY IS IT SO HARD TO GET, like those precursor complaint threads. Be happy that everyone can enjoy this cool back piece and not a hipster who says, “it’s not cool because it’s mainstream”
Monthly reward and forcing players to wait 2 weeks before they can get their ascended gear is two different things.
You get 30 days to get the monthly reward, you can finish it in the first day or finish it in the last, it doesn’t matter either way.
Ascended gear, you’re not allowed to get it until a minimum amount of days have been reached.
It seems you don’t even understand what good and bad time gating is.
(edited by Lafiel.9372)
Anet never rewards players for the right reasons. Should have learnt by now
No it’s not, it uses the same format as it’s other phish type emails for other mmos like wow etc.
They probably would have banned you first to begin with rather than give you a warning before email if they found out you were trying to sell your account. Then you could proceed to submit a ticket to get it back etc.
Although the email noreply@guildwars2.com is indeed Anet’s legit system email, it is not hard to falsify the sender email these days.
What most of the people are underestimating and what some other players are not is that this is a first step. If anet pulls this off, that’s it. They know they can do this and that they can do it again. The first step is the hardest but if you give in then it’s all over. Next up, 2014, transcended gear! Level progression!
If this is the kind of game you’re looking for then yes, by all means, support the direction of where anet is headed. But if this is not the direction you thought we were heading into, if you came into the game hoping to be able to enjoy a game with horizontal progression, well presented stories and innovative design/mechanics then this is the last chance for us to take our stand before we split ways.
Again let I remind everyone, ascended vs exotics is ~510 stat difference, ~312 stats in it’s current implementation and we haven’t even considered the extra weapon damage ascended gear will have.
I’ll leave you with this old quote by the Anet studio design director said in last year AMA
“More generally, I hope we’ve been clear that GW2 is not a game with virtually no stat progression in it like GW1 was. That’s why GW2 shipped with a higher level cap, and with a hard separation between PvE and PvP. In GW1 we never advanced the level cap through four campaigns/expansions. The game design didn’t allow for it. But GW2 was designed without those restrictions, and we’ve always expected that we will someday raise the level cap in GW2.”

My account was preordered and never touched because my computer couldn’t run it. I finally get a new computer, find out my account’s been hacked, spend three days with customer service to retrieve it, try to log in to find that the account was suspended due to suspicious activity, spent another two days with customer service to get it unsuspended, and now this. I seriously haven’t even gotten to play yet. Yes, my account was hacked, so it’s possible that the gold spammer who hacked the account used an exploit. HOWEVER, I’ve consulted support about the hack, and I should NOT be held responsible for YOUR COMPANY’s security flaws.
I would greatly appreciate if you would review my ticket. I do not want to spend three more days waiting to use the product I payed for ages ago.

If Anet had security flaws, dont you think there would be alot more that got hacked and not just you. Sounds like you went to a bad web site, thats your security flaws.
My security flaws? I don’t think so.

Stolen from other games using phishing and spyware. Wow.. Don’t use the same passwords and logins for everything and this don’t happen. No ones brute forcing into Arenanet server and spy-snagging your uber account.
Well, that was what Anet said. We will never know for sure if this is all the truth or if Anet had some information leaked and just wont tell us (they forced me a password change and my password was used only on GW). They sware the fault is everyone else’s, but I have my doubts.
I believe Anet is legally required to tell us, their customers, if there was a security breach in their system. I believe blizzard tried to pull one of these earlier in their years and got found out and fined heavily? But, feel free to put those tin foil hats and believe in these unjustified claims. The plain fact is, it is much much more likely for a user to have their security compromised then Anet having their system compromised.
Onto the question of people getting banned with exploits, do you think it’s to do with the bugged events in orr? I’m glad I never took part in those.
hmm,
it seems that on the process of grieving, i was on step 2 when i wrote my first post, 3th when i wrote my rebuttal and after watching a lot of kitten (not kitten, but baby cat) videos on youtube, i am on step 5. Having poured about 1700 hours into this game, i just must accept that for this weekend gw2 wont be part of my life. I might actually go out for a first time in months and hit a bar or two. Yes. Maybe something good will come of this, and hopefully i wont wake up in the ER or jail.
Still i wish the person offended would have just whispered to stop being a kitten before reporting and ruining everything for me.
And tokittenLing U : i had not even considered that it would be like that for some languages. I play in EU region (Gandara ftw), and certainly i have seen some funny named people, who’s name would be considered very rude in my native language. Funny.
And Eulas…pffft. Who reads those anyway?
I read the EULA, and their naming policy, and some other things they let us read. I’m sure most serious players would read the EULA carefully. I’ve seen a lot of people get smacked hard because they didn’t realise they were breaking gw2 policies (guild deletes etc… long debate about it, basically people who quote links that they haven’t read and yeah…) Maybe since you’ve got another 60 hrs to go, you should read up on their policies to make sure you don’t get another infraction
you finally learn to give up doing your dailies. I’ve been doing my dailies everyday without missing even a single one since the early start weekend. The first step is the hardest but man, once you’ve missed one, you don’t really care about it anymore. I urge anyone else who feels like it’s a chore to just leave it. Your time is worth more.
Representing, tried restarting, tried stand down/represent, still no work.
As shown in screenshot :/
Happen since yesterday or so. Doesn’t seem to be reported in game bugs in significant amount yet so i assume it’s only a small group of people who are getting this bug?
Combat is streamlined and fluid, the art style and music are gorgeous, there’s plenty to do, and even more so, there was plenty of potential untapped.
Well said. If I had to say that Anet has done anything right, it would be that their combat is extremely fluid and in fact, this is probably the biggest retaining element for me when I compared it to many other games.
However, everything else is just heading down a direction which was not what I expected. I’m carefully observing how FFXIV is handling their current issues at the moment as well as their customer support before I say any permanent goodbyes.

Account bound chest will solve everything.
I don’t know if I really will keep playing GW2, considering the road Anet is going.
It’s really getting a pay-to-win game. Yes I know you don’t need the skins as they wont improve your stats or anything, but frank an MMO is about getting new gear and style items. But hey I need to invest real money for that..Seriously?
Please tell me what is pay to win in this game?
I’ve read so many on the forums talking about he/she being the last player standing and then continues writing with the implied notion that he/she is the better player. While in certain situations that holds true, there are times when I see the last person standing as the worst player in the group.
Situations like everyone goes melee range and there’s this one person that stretches the farthest of his range attacks. Yes, you can most definitely dps the boss from where you are standing just fine, regardless 1,200 range away or 130.
I don’t really think that’s the point…
If we were fighting Malrona (the TA Exp Up Path Spider boss), definitely range is the way to go for everyone. If we were fighting Fyonna (the TA Exp Up Path boss after the Spider), even if you were holding a ranged weapon such as a bow or a staff, please fight the boss at melee range so that she doesn’t end up running around like some mad woman on the loose, and worse if she runs out of the cave, causing all the spider eggs to hatch.
Or in FOTM where we got to the Ascalon fractal, and the farthest person standing is holding back all the NPCs, preventing them to go where they are needed…
When everyone goes melee, the benefits are -
1. Being able to res each other when one of the members gets downed because the boss targetted him instead of the rest
2. Tossing out buffs that nearby players can benefit, and this is possible when everyone is within range of each other and usually that is in melee range.
3. AOE heals and debuffs etc.
And then there’s also the case of players complaining about warriors wearing berserker gear being down more often than anybody else, which automatically makes them the natural worst player?
Sometimes that last person standing is all that makes the difference, and actually makes everyone notice whether he’s the strongest link or the broken one.
Really depends, I mean let’s say cof p1, i’m usually the melee warrior who is still standing alive with 90 % hp while the other 4 guys are downed in the red. However, i’d say even the leech who is ranging is being a better player than the dead guy who was meleeing. Since dead = no dps, range = some dps.
Of course, there is always the coward selfish guy who refuses to rev or help others when needed and just runs when the parties all down (that’s your true classic leech there). My number one cause of death is saving others, because that’s just my nature.

Arena Net: “Why fix the existing content in our game when we can just add more?”
EDIT: I am not actually surprised because I know that somewhere in their stack of papers there is something that convinces them that their game is perfect.
It is easier to add new stuff then it is to fine tune or should I say, fix, existing content/bugs. That is the mindset of anet, add enough new things and people who care about the old things will get muffled away in the noise.
Okay.. so I can live with the soulbound tickets sure, I can live with you spawning me dead infront of the annoucer sure, but come on, WP cost everytime i fail a challenge? That is so evil, you tell us you give us 20 % off at WP only to force us to use a WP…
Seriously. Faith in anet, I have lost it all.
What’s funny is, while in wvw or pvp, this would be a “noob” build, in PvE, this is teh “pro” build.
Just addressing your question in the post, yes there is a gear treadmill. Why?, gear treadmill in a game is anything where a new tier of armor is introduced into the game periodically. It has been made clear by Anet that they intend to do two things, introduce higher stat armor as the game goes and to introduce higher level caps (already your clear indication of their intention for a gear treadmill). Now what confuses people or what some people find is acceptable is that this gear treadmill is not as fast as some of your more famous mmos. Instead of taking weeks and months to become obselete it may take half a year to a year.
To be honest, I have nothing wrong with gear progression, in fact, i’m going to be playing a game with plenty of that very soon, but my real problem is how anet tries to accomodate for both genres of players (horizontal vs vertical) and this just kittens a lot of people off. The gear progressioners are getting statistically significant increase with their new tier but not big enough that there is a huge advantage. The problem with non gear progressioners now is that the gear isn’t weak enough that it’s impossible to kill someone with full ascended gear but every time you vs one, you’ll be at a disadvantage. Think of it as a handicap of 88 %
Also, this ascended gear is the info is right at the moment, will cost on average of 100+ g to craft. That is quite a bit of money for most people and in my opinion, is better spent towards your legendary goal rather than your ascended gear.
Here is the quote for their stance on gear and level progression:
“More generally, I hope we’ve been clear that GW2 is not a game with virtually no stat progression in it like GW1 was. That’s why GW2 shipped with a higher level cap, and with a hard separation between PvE and PvP. In GW1 we never advanced the level cap through four campaigns/expansions. The game design didn’t allow for it. But GW2 was designed without those restrictions, and we’ve always expected that we will someday raise the level cap in GW2.”

As Rasolov would say “no no no”. Trinity does not promote skill at all but lazy gameplay for 3 out of 5 of the party members.
Anet measures success by how much income is generated per content. Come on guys. Did you think it’s really about fun and bug free and content with actual depth? Lol.
What exactly is the criticism here? That ANet went overboard in their quest to make the interface easy to use?
Yeah we could be having autoloot, true autoloot.
also there’s a ton of elements left out like dual spec, outfitter, buttons for minis and boons foods, a LFG tool even for the open world event system, a map that shows us events in the zone we’re in without being 5 feet from those events.
Lol can’t believe what i’m hearing here. Here when i’m playing other games i’m cursing them for having such a crappy auto loot system and wish it was MORE like gw2 and then we have a guy who expects anet to pick up loot for them and spamming F just isn’t good enough. Maybe we should go back to the old permanent loot bag drag to inventory system for you kids to appreciate what you have. Sure we could use a lot of other “luxury” type items but we are already very fortunate. The lfg tool is coming just delayed a bit.
Might be best to submit a bug report in game to get a faster response too.
It is broken, in the fact that they made it much easier to solo run the dungeon rather than a coordinated group. Of course, I kinda doubt anet will fix this in time for people to run this as a group (if anything nerf it so you can’t run it solo maybe?) We’ve always had to pick up the pieces where anet has been unfit to balance and find our own way through somehow.
I’m surprised that they only read feedback which is sugarcoated instead of being able to calmly read a post regardless of content and pick out the fundamentals. Sounds like a bunch of care bears where they work o.O…
If you delete a character of a name owned by you. You can immediately use it. If someone else deletes a character with a name you want, there is a 24 hour waiting time I believe.
This is according to normal name assigning. I’m not too sure if the tickets differ.
I’m very saddened that this has not been fixed in the past 2 patches. If dr is the issue here, remove it temporarily! We don’t deserve to be punished for something that isn’t our fault. This is lost karka all over again, putting effort in a big DE which gave us no reward because of bugs.
So here is my question to Anet really. Why do stealth nerfs? Why can’t you be more upfront with certain changes you do to the game. Sure, some people may not enjoy certain elements being nerfed but isn’t it a lot better to be upfront about it. I surely would be able to accept most changes you have decided if it was written in the latest update log. What we hate is when we have to find out by ourselves later on that a chest only appears once a day now because of a recent small patch which was told to just be routine maintenance.
The other problem is, why the lack of detail in the update logs? For example, the last routine maintenance just said, no content changes were made but you obviously fixed some bugs in that patch, why not list them out to players what bugs were fixed? Like I notice the achievements were now fixed in the last patch but it would have been nice to have known this just by reading the update logs instead of having to find out ourselves. I’m also waiting very patiently (and forcefully) that the dragon chest not spawning bug to be fixed (it’s been 3 weeks and counting now, no acknowledgement of news about it since then even though this is a game breaking issue for many many many players) and every update i’m praying for that bug to be fixed and since there is no detail in the update logs as well, I have to test it out by killing a few dragons and wa la! bug still exist, chest doesn’t appear and my event participation has some extremely low exp number like 700 exp 15 karma. (obvious some DR bug the game is persisting with, really begs the question maybe we’re all permanently in DR thanks to this bug and we don’t even know it because anet doesn’t know it or is being extremely slow to fix it).
There is no consistency when it comes to the update logs, sometimes they tell us this this and that has been fixed while others they either throw in a bunch of stealth fixes or nerfs. It is for this reason why there are so many conspiracies around, because Anet seems to be so secretive with everything they do, regardless if it was a nerf or fix?
Ultimately, I just wish they would post some clear and detailed update logs (I don’t mind if they take longer to be posted up, but at least I know what is working properly and what isn’t so I can resume playing that aspect of the game. (i.e kill dragons for their bad loot again).
