This request is just too vague.

Stihl didn’t actually request anything. he simply asked if a certain gamer demographic had been remembered. a great amount of this thread has not actually addressed the question at hand, but instead has quibbled over word definitions and had plenty of accusatory finger pointing, wrong assumptions, and borderline trolling.

few things.

casual is NOT about how much time you play or how skilled you are, or are not, and how much you do or do not solo.
it is about your approach to the game. do you play just for giggles? do you just log on for an hour or two to blow off some steam? or do you attack it like a job... researching the best gear, theorycrafting with the planner, reading the metabattle builds, and watching videos of how other, potentially better, players play (yourfavoriteclass)?

that being said... certain marks, while not impossible, are usually only attained by people who AREN’T playing casually... owning 5 legendaries is out of the scope that would normally be considered casual... so far so that the sarcastic response to the poster who mentioned they were casual with 5 legendaries was not only unsurprising... it was expected.

i’ve played 3 years out of the last 5. i started playing 5 months after the game came out. have 12 characters (1 of each, and 4 rangers) all at 80 all fully geared in at least exotics, and almost all have their elite specs. i have 11k AP. i have 2 legendaries (both times i had the precursor given to me). i have one character fully outfitted tip to toe in ascended Vipers. i have every trade skill at 400 or better. i’ve made maudry and light of dwayna. i’ve done a level 79 fractal. i solo towers in WvW without too much trouble. i was a liked commander, and i even commanded for 16 hours straight one day.

i did NOT consider myself to be a casual (altho with the "casual" resume i’ve seen some post in this thread, i’m sure they would consider me such)... and i’m pretty sure that, while i’m certainly not the best player out there... i do actually know how to play my favorite class quite well, and many more at least passably.

i’ve NEVER completed a raid... i disliked all the HoT maps and found them frustrating and difficult to maneuver. i stopped playing shortly after HoT came out.

i too, like Stihl, have come back tenatively to check out the new expac. if it is more like core Tyria in overall feel... i may buy it... if it’s all crap like HoT... back to DDO i will go... where i’ll go back to soloing epic elite content and various raids (yes raids) on my bard, just to see if i can.

i come straight from DDO, which is another game that relies heavily on skill. good gear does make a difference, no doubt, but player skill and knowledge is much much more important. in this game here, i see alot of cheese tactics in dungeons. mobs that can insta-kill me if i make the slightest mistake. VERY VERY unforgiving. now, while i am learning quick, i was carried thru my first AC. i know i was. know how i know? because when i got downed, and (at their advisement) recalled to a WP for a ‘res rush’… i was completely unable to rejoin them. without the beefy guardian i ran behind the first time getting the agro first, i was unable to make it past the burrow we left behind in the first bit of tunnel… no matter how i dodged, jumped, or rolled thru multiple attempts… i died in a split second. in an instant. it was very demoralizing. and unfun.

taking away our cheese (res rushing. perching. etc) but not taking away some measure of the boss mob’s cheese in return… is (forgive my pun) just cheesy.

my ranger has protection on dodge roll, guardian has protection from half a dozen of her abilities and weapons (at least. maybe more. XD) and the mesmer has a staff, so protection there, too. i’m good. bring it on!

ahem. >.> <.< >.> dude, not to be rude, but have you SEEN the size of our zergs this week? i have no idea where they came from, but we’re actually fielding a fair number. i know yesterday we had fighting forces in at least 2-3 places… i map hopped last night and helped where i could. our zerg in EB was enough to slow my comp down… then SF and HoD showed up. (your welcome for the easy kills, by the way. i know i just stood there and took it at least 2-3 times. heck, one time i died on the run without ever seeing what hit me) . up till this morning every time i’ve looked at the score we’ve been holding and maintaining roughly our 1/3 of the pie all times day and night. we’re a bit less now because HoD has all of EB now. note… ALL of EB.. that means SF’s side, too. and as i look at the map right now at 9:23 am (central) HoD just took SF’s Hills keep 5 minutes ago.

golem rushing overlook last night was (in my opinion): excessive, impressive, and silly… but in no way “picking on ET”

and this opinion is coming from an ET commander who got her kitten kicked in that golem rush last night.

it is an interesting system. and ideally it would help... unfortunately the implementation leaves much to be desired. in my opinion the T1/T2 servers were probably loaded enough to stay as is.. on paper to Anet it probably sounded great to combine T1 and T8... give T8 more people to play with, and not increase T1 significantly... however, as has been stated more than once by multiple people... there are many people in the lower tiers because they didn’t like the blob on blob fights... some even because their computers can’t handle a huge blob. they purposely transferred to T6/T7/T8, and have now been thrown back against their will into the blob.

personally... i think something more like this would have been a bit smarter:
T1/T2- left alone
T3 +T4
T5+T6
T7+T8

or perhaps
T1/T2 unchanged
T3+T6
T4+T7
T5+T8

then the disparities between what was and what is for the lowest tiers are not so stark.

this may not be a GREAT solution, but as this is a BETA test, and they already said it will be changed much more often till they get things situated, at which point it will most likely settle down to being seasonal... maybe they can try this next... it keeps the high pop servers as they are for the most part, and more preserves the small group feel that lower tier servers had.

as for queues... yeah they suck, but this is "THE NEW SHINY™" and everyone and their uncle’s dog is going to be playing right now. the queues WILL settle down. take the opportunity to get to know the improved BLs (if you aren’t queued there too, that is, but they aren’t as popular, so you’re more likely to get on them much faster), do some dungeons or fractals to make some gold... try a new character... or catch up on your favorite show... but don’t give up hope. this is live beta. things are crazy, but they aren’t going to STAY this way. honest.

i’m the ranger in question. i don’t run a meta build by any stretch of the imagination.
i primarily roam in WvW, so i was running a hybrid druid that i joke that i abuse the kitten out of ancient seeds. lots of stuns and knockbacks for lots of immobilzations and bleeds, GS swap for mobility, a block, damage, and another stun. we were in Thaumanova reactor, and we hadn’t even gotten to the boss. i stepped out of the first room that you zone into, fired a poison volley to get some poison going followed up by a concussion shot to root and bleed, then swapped and swooped. by the time the first group of mobs was dead, the guy was like "Why is our ranger using shortbow?" everyone else in the group was like "uhhhh..... so?" and i said "i’m hybrid. i have every weapon... i can swap to something else if it’s really that big a deal." someone else said "if you don’t like it, quit", so he quit. when we got to boss i swapped GS for LB. as STIHL said... we completed just fine.

You don’t get it, do you? Tier 1 NA got the least amount of additional players. A relatively insignificant *number* added to their queues. These map queues are not coming from the server merge. These map queues are coming from the hyped reset night, and the vast majority of those queueing players were already on your servers.

Every server in the game had map queues last night.

It will pass, and it will do so primarily because a large amount of the people who came in last night will not (and would not, under any circumstance) play WvW long-term *and* frequently.

When this happened on SFR it spawned a huge increase in guardians and wall of reflection usage….until all the rangers quit/rerolled

as far as i’m concerned... mounts are cool. sure, i’d love to have a mount. BUT... with the waypoint system and our own personal run speed, we don’t need a functional mount... a purely cosmetic one is more than sufficient.

it’s a high fantasy setting with some mechanical element, so i see no issue with insta-summoning said mount... heck.. any immersion that exists goes right out the window the second you jump off a cliff and your glider magically POOF appears on your back... or the second you see someone named Charrzilla (with lime green "DBZ" hair) or Fruit Loop Warrior or the 6 dozenth Xxxsephirothxxx you’ve seen just this week..

there is precedent in other fantasy settings for magical creatures summoned by spell or connection to a physical item (for example, a figurine of wonderous power from D&D. think Guenhwyvar from the Drizzt stories) so it is not beyond the realm of possibility to summon a horse or a unicorn or a giant riding wolf or a charr-cycle or a mini-dragon stand-on glider or whatever out of thin air.

TL;DR - i’m fine with mounts, as long as they are cosmetic only. and if they introduce a unicorn mount i am SO buying that...

Ah internet, I love you. I come here asking about toxic map chat so people start blaming me because I do not read chat in battle.

My #1 thing to watch is a party or squad chat if I am in one and I make no excuses for that. The only reason I even had combat chat on at all this time was because I was standing somewhere different than normal and it was the fastest way to find my range while it started. My absolute last thing to watch is map chat during a fight. If you want a good map you need to arrive early so not talking at 30 minutes before the event is a pretty silly excuse. If people are asking questions then about the mechanics than do not be a johny-come-lately and yell after it starts that everyone is doing it wrong if you did not answer their questions.

ok. yes, you’re right. people should be answering questions and not raging when things are done wrong afterward. there is pretty much always a level of toxicity anywhere… people who QQ that their teammates suck in sPVP… people crying in WvW about poorly spent supply, misqueued upgrades (which thankfully is not an issue anymore), or lack of response to a scouts call… kitten talk and political/religious bs in open world zones everywhere from newb zones to 80th level zones to LA.

however, as a fellow ranger, i’m going to call you out on one thing… if you are doing a more complex world event like shatterer or teq, especially one you don’t know yet, DO NOT turn off map chat. yes, questions should have been answered ahead of time, and yes people may lose their kitten minds and get toxic if things start to go badly, but it’s never a good idea to shut off all method of communication during a large dynamic event that may have instructions called out at certain times. as others have said, the floating white numbers mid screen show if you’re hitting or not… you don’t need the combat log for that. heck, i never use my combat log unless i want to go back and see how much damage a particular hit did.

Please refer to my earlier post when i said 1 vs 20 is not an l2p problem along with ganking. Instead of getting proof you should start by reading what others say. Just because there’s a zerg in front of you don’t mean your server is outmanned on the map.. it means you are out manned individually. I’ve run in to many zergs and felt out manned but it only meant the rest of us split up and were doing other things.

Please, I implore you to exercise some common sense.

As for your people being unable to do 15 vs 30 in a keep (not out on open field) then you’re just idiots because we were doing exactly that last night.

alright… so… extremely typical weekday example: we have 1 commander on our map, with 10-20 people, a few roamers, and a scout at each keep. when the SF zerg starts rollin’ there are groups of 20-30 (or even more at times) hitting more than one location AT THE SAME TIME. with enough people left over to scout and roam also. last time i checked, that added up to more than we had.

but ya know what, keep patting yourselves on the back and telling yourselves that you’re awesome. it makes me LOL
