i got my tag when it was 100 gold. i had 2 tags, so in effect i lost 100 gold. if anet decides at some point to reduce the price of tags. great. if they don’t… oh well.
HOWEVER
anet specifically put in the ability to make a tagless leaderless squad of 10… so that people could still raid without anyone needing to buy a tag. the extras are just that.. extras. conveniences. you don’t need them to run a raid… and those conveniences are part and parcel of paying whatever is the current fee, be it 300, or 100, or heck if anet changes it to 10 gold and 20,000 badges, or whatever other off-the-wall price you can think of for a full-featured tag. if you want the extras, you pay the fee. it’s that simple.
and asking for those features for free spits in the face of those who paid for them and comes off as a whiny little kitten.
i should link this thread over in the wvw section. it’ll be blood on the water, and i’ll just sit back and watch the sharks eat this topic up. lol

part of that is because one of their number posted a (misguided) 10 silver bounty on the heads of my guildmates. one of the screenshots is an inside joke between me and the poster (i’ll mail your 10 silver soon) and one of the screenshots is the aforementioned rat >cough< i mean troll on an alt account on our server getting spiked by his own servermate (should i owe you another 10 silver for that?)
i for one approve of some of these shennannigans. it’s at least something to laugh at when we’re so horribly outnumbered
by the way guys... you can stop saying that we’re "not showing up for the fight"... we ARE... there’s really just that few of us.

wow. ok, no offense… as a casual player myself, i appreciate what you think you’re trying to do, but this post could be really misleading. i do not consider myself a ‘bad’ player. in fact i think i’m pretty decent and learning fast. (managed to be ‘last man standing’ in a poor attempt at Kholer last night, in only my 2nd run in AC ever. our next attempt at him succeeded).
i don’t feel the need to grind insanely for teh most ubar gear evar!!!! i didn’t feel that need in DDO either. i understand that player skill plays into it much moreso than gear alone. but saying a dungeon can be run by a casual in 20-60 minutes is setting up a NEW player for failure. 20-60 minutes is doable with an EXPERIENCED crew… casual or not… but alot of people associate “casual” with “new-person-friendly”. i know someone who, when they made 30, they celebrated by getting a pack of others 30-60 together, all of whom had not run AC much or at all, and tried to run AC storymode. TWO HOURS LATER they finally completed. if res-rushing had already been removed, they would have never finished, and would have quit in frustration. Frustrating mechanics are never good mechanics. they tend to push people away from the game, as they are not conducive to fun.
it’s very easy to forget how hard things are when you are just learning them… i’ve observed this learning curve in every game i’ve played to date. once you know all the tricks, the game is easy. until you know all the tricks, it can be very hard… and if the game is balanced to try to counter the tricks, it becomes prohibitively difficult.
overall, i like this game. learning the basics is pretty easy… and going against live opponents in WvW forces me to hone my skills… and i know i still have a lot to learn yet.

you know what they say… everyone on the internet is a guy until proven otherwise.
Yea, I agree OP. You can’t enjoy the game or become immersed in it unless you identify on a fairly deep level with your character.
pretty sure there is nothing at all deep about my pastel colored gigantic norn named Fruit Loop Warrior or my cosplay character Sniperoth (take a wild guess what he looks like) or my ele named Pointless Timewaste.
some people do it to explore the other side… some do it just because they don’t want to stare at their own gender’s kitten running around everywhere… some people just do it because they really don’t like the race model for their own gender (male norn looking… lopsided, for example)
Guys who play female characters are just feminine men in RL (which is fine I guess).
my husband has about an even 50/50 split on genders in this game. he had 2 female characters in the last game we played. he is DEFINITELY NOT a “girly man” in any sense.
i am most assuredly a female.. and i have 2 male toons here, and 2 male toons in the last game i played.
the way i see it is this: if you’re ok with playing a character of the opposite gender.. that’s fine. if you’re NOT comfortable with playing a character of the opposite gender, that’s fine too.. just don’t go telling either group they’re wrong in their feelings.

mmm. i think this attitude shift in wvw has been going on for a long time, and part of why i stopped commanding. there’s only so many times you can call on map chat for people to come defend a keep from a small amount of attackers when you KNOW there are others on the map because you SEE the camps flipping before you just feel like just ragequitting the whole dang thing. i still love WvW, tho. so i still run... i just mostly solo roam now. :-/

And why can’t we have both? You’re talking as if raids take away from these other parts of the game, and they do not.
please point out the exact post or phrase used to indicate proof of your point of view that STIHL is saying anything about raids taking away from other aspects of the game.
throwing my 2 cents in the pot here. raids should feel epic. amirite? old time EQ player here and it was an everyday occurrence to wrangle 50-100 people (in groups of 6… no fancy raid UI, and no voice coms at first) for a planes raid. that’s epic… on a grand scale. much more recently i played DDO… and while the group size for a raid was much smaller (max group size 12)… for the most part the raids themselves still had an epic feel to them… trouping through a multi-part maze where 2 of the first 4 phases could kill you if you didn’t complete them quickly enough… one of which was a guaranteed fail if you didn’t complete in time… followed by 2 rounds of fighting a balor? that’s still epic even with reduced group size. exploring a gigantic dwarven-made extraplaner bank vault that had an ongoing story woven into it replete with love, betrayals, doublecrosses, and forced teamwork to solve all the puzzles… followed by a fight with an ancient red dragon who liked her adventurers roasty toasty and covered in ketchup. that was epic.
now in GW2… the first time i ran TTT… taxiing in people until the map was full to bursting… sorting people by what job to do.. each head with a different mechanic, and needing teamwork and coordination to kill them all at nearly the same time… THAT was epic… my first time facing a dragon (i think it was Jormag)…so many people on my screen they literally bought my computer to a halt… dealing with all the mechanics… being told to “stand here” and getting the crash landing achievement… when i wasn’t expecting it and had no idea what was going to happen (i have some friends who are practical jokers… they raised me at least XD)…. that… was epic.
my first time running the raid didn’t feel as epic. its like 2 trial runs… like… if you can’t kill these two, don’t even bother to pass GO do not collect 200 dollars, please step your way out of the raid now. then the “boss”… no epic trek to find the boss… no puzzles… no minions to mow through first….its just “oh look… there’s a platform… with the boss… lets do this…” followed by “dodge… green…. dodge…. bounce….green…. dodge… green… bounce… dodge… green…” etc rinse repeat for 5 phases. i’m sorry, but no. no offense to the designers, but that’s not epic
was it a good idea to make a raid? apparently, because for some reason everyone wanted them even tho we already had some pretty epic encounters in game, they just weren’t labeled “raids”…was this a good implementation? IMHO not really. does having a raid that isn’t epic and is really nothing more than a skill-gate take anything away from the mechanics and enjoyment of other encounters of various types and difficulties in game? nope.

if yer getting chased clean across the map, yer doin it right.
or they’re bored.
or both.
it’s really fun if you can quickly kill people 1v1 and you have a dumb zerg following you. before the BL change, i once got chased from the north east gate of bay (the one that points toward garrison) all the way to the nw camp. i looked behind me, and the only one able to keep up with me had been a warrior who ran too far from his buddies concentrating on killing the "coward ranger". i turned, killed him, and then ran again. felt goooood. but boy they were mad at me. Y’all people who are complaining about this making things inaccessible need to go play platformers or other types of game where everything is unlocked right now. In RPGs, everything is gated behind something, be it level, money, equipment, traits or whatever else. If you’ve got a problem with that, RPGs are NOT for you..
no. you see.. that’s why i play THIS game and not THOSE games… because i don’t LIKE those kind of requirements, and yet, now here they are, being forced upon me. or at least trying to be forced on me.
what i find funny is how many people are like OMG WHY ARE YOU COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS GET GUD NOOOOOB YOU HAVE TO DO THIS THIS IS ENDGAME RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE. no. no i don’t have to do that. and no, i am not a “filthy casual” because i choose not to put up with the bullkitten that seems to be going hand-in-hand with the GW2 raiding scene. i can continue to “raid” in WvW every night and do T4 fractals with my friends as much as i want to and gain so much more enjoyment from the game than putting up with a bunch of elitists telling me how i MUST run my character… and then being forced to run maps that i DON’T LIKE just to get the special snowflake ability to be able to run that raid? well that’s just stacking a suck time on top of another suck time. there are other ways to enjoy the game…

Except that they really didn’t.
didn’t they?
Over the last couple of years, dungeons have been a major part of the game’s economy; between unique armor and liquid rewards, they’re often farmed. In the expansion, we’ll move away from this paradigm. As the game progressed, we shifted focus from dungeons to fractals and raids, and we firmly believe that fractals and raids are the content that we want to continue to support. As a part of that process, we’ll shift some rewards away from dungeons and into other pieces of content. While dungeons will remain cool experiences that’ll reward players with unique items, their liquid rewards will be reduced and other content will become more rewarding. The shift in rewards is a direct representation of our focus on raids and fractals and our commitment to make them the best they can be. (10/12/15. source)
Dungeon rewards have been rebalanced to more accurately reflect the time needed to complete them. Experience and gold awarded for completing a dungeon have been reduced. (10/23/15. source)
Anet DIRECTLY STATES they wanted to move players away from dungeons. it doesn’t get much clearer than that. it bit em in the kitten tho… the forums erupted with complaints. dungeons became ghost towns overnight… the farmers switched to fractals, not because they were more interesting, but because the loot from their previous farm was hamstrung, and the few who wanted to run dungeons for the story/flavor/armor rewards found it nearly impossible to find a group, so were forced to move on too. if that isn’t “killing dungeons” i don’t know what is
5 months later they admitted they screwed up.
Q: Have you guys reconsidered your decision to push players away from dungeons?…
A: Simple answer, yes. We didn’t need to nerf dungeons like that. But we also don’t have a dungeons team to keep dungeons updates. So that’s the dilemma.Guild Wars 2 is a big game with a lot of dev needs. My personal focus is to ensure that we do a great job of anything we choose to do. I’m all about doing fewer things and doing them better. So we have no current plan to staff a dungeons team; no free developers to staff one with. (3/4/16. source: Mike O’Brien’s AMA on Reddit)
a month later…
We increased dungeon rewards, including both gold and tokens. We chose to use a repeatable achievement to deliver gold rewards, as it encourages completing multiple dungeon paths while allowing dungeon runners to play as many dungeons as they like when it’s convenient for them, rather than tying players to a daily reset. (4/19/16. source)
but by then the damage was done. some people have drifted back, but it’s nothing like it once was.
But yeah people keep saying dungeons are dead, it’s really helping that community come back.
people saying dungeons are dead isn’t what kills them. denying the facts of what happened won’t bring them back

The thing I find that is truly ironic about this is that we have had numerous threads about what ANet should do to fix the problem, but in the end the first solution (leveling out server pops/coverage) has been in the hands of the player base, all along.
i just started playing recently (around a month or so). and i didn’t start WvW immediately. i played and had fun and got used to how to play. i didn’t even know HOW to go to WvW…didn’t realize it was as easy as “hit B”. i hadn’t found the forums or the wiki yet… and i remembered that when i first chose my server, i got a warning that “this choice is final, you’ll have to pay if you wish to move.” and i was unaware of free server transfers.
by the time i realized what soul-crushing will-sapping WvW-fun-devouring hole i was in by being on a Tier 8 server, i had already made friends, joined a guild, and free transfers were over. so, pray tell, what should i do to ‘level the field’ at this point? and if your answer is “transfer”… pony up so i can make the transfer. i’m broke…. and break the news to my guild for me that i’m leaving… i hate goodbyes. be sure you send enough for 2 transfers. my husband has to come too

YES i play with this connection (i’m infamous among my circle of friends for my sudden bouts of lag and random disconnects). NO i cannot watch a video unless it’s 10-20 seconds long. it’s artificially choked by my source (NO i am not bootlegging or stealing it in any way shape or form). i DREAD patch days. it took me a week to download the expac. i imagine the same could happen to others.

alright. fine. my point of view and personal experience on GW2 raids, in it’s entirety.
1. i see lots of, honestly, very nasty elitist posts on the forums regarding being prepared for raids.
2. i’ve attempted to run raids several times with several different guilds i’m either in, or friends with. i have yet to succeed at the first wing. i’ve operated in a few different positions in the raid so far... tank, healer, condi damage, even tried one run on my herald breaking the bar with staff. the raid mechanism for the Vale Guardian fight is not terribly exciting or engaging IN MY OPINION. the actual raid wing itself is a (in my opinion) very uninspired "tank and spank" . it’s a tiny bit difficult, but only because twitch and running to the right place at the right time. basically, in most of my group’s attempts, the tank just needs a little more practice where and when to move close to the end when more than one section of floor is lit. the actual "dodge this, CC that, move here, more there." is straight forward and, frankly, boring.
3. i’d like to have a success under my belt, so i can at least possibly offer pointers to my friends... i join a group advertised here and on reddit promising to be friendly and open raid training. i get stuck in a "gear check" list, and i can’t even make an attempt until i ping all my gear to someone in charge of the group, and he decides if it’s meta enough or not... and when i say anything even remotely questioning or disapproving, i am told "don’t you want to be the best you can be?" I was running a Viper’s druid before it became a raiding meta. i’m in full ascended. i’ve been playing a ranger for 3 years. i’m not playing a flavor of the month or a PvE fun wtf build. let me run with what i got. i felt unwelcome and frustrated in what was supposed to be an accepting training group. i left them without having even once run or even attempted VG with them.
4. now i’m getting really fed up with raids in general. and now people on the forums basically are saying "if you aren’t raiding, you suck." paraphrased of course, but that’s what it boils down to.
5. the announcement is made that i need a mastery that i don’t have to complete the 6th wing. i’m not really enjoying HoT maps. i frustrated myself enough getting the vipers gear for my druid and the sigil of draining for my interrupt chronomancer. i really don’t want to torture myself to get another 2-3 ranks of gliding (not sure how many i need to max it. haven’t looked in a while). i’m already annoyed about raiding. so great. thanks for letting me know. screw raiding.
it would be a lot different if more people were actually helpful and friendly about it. but instead i get told to "get gud n00b" and "quit being lazy".
people are running shortman and speedruns already. and several people in this very thread have said "it’s not really that hard". if that’s really the case, then people shouldn’t be bent out of shape if one person isn’t 100% efficient. no, you don’t want to carry someone in a lolwut build, but it shouldn’t be an issue to take someone who isn’t "meta" as long as they’re good and know what they’re doing and the group as a whole can fill all the roles.
i’m not saying i don’t raid at all. i’m not saying i won’t raid at all. i’m saying that i’m not terribly motivated to work hard to raid, because of the current atmosphere surrounding raiding. i will still be making regular attempts on VG till i manage to succeed. i’ll just be doing it with my guildies, on our terms.

so if we had so many server transfers… why the staunch disagreement with resetting the numbers? if we’re going to be stuck with glicko for the time being, why NOT reset us all back to 0? we sure aren’t where we started, and Glicko is meant to deal with individuals, not groups. individuals don’t change that much. we’ve skewed the numbers all out of whack by now.
SO WHAT we’ll have a few weeks of odd matches and blowouts while the rating math figures out where we’re better suited… that would honestly be a huge improvement over what we have now.
it would be a decent short-term fix to give Anet time to work on a different formula better suited to calculating matchups… because i glicko ain’t it.

you really expected a response within the day? LOL
anyways.. tactivators... meh. i don’t have a strong opinion one way or the other regarding tactivators
i actually like the newer upgrade method... there was far too much drama from the costs involved in upgrading structures and people misqueueing things... either the wrong upgrade at the wrong time, or queueing a superfluous upgrade (like... merchants) when an enemy was attacking, draining all the supply for defense. that being said, i also like the change that made it so that it didn’t auto upgrade no matter what.. that you needed to get a certain number of dolys to the structure. this allows solo/duo and havoc groups to cut off upgrades to structures. the one thing i miss about the new upgrading system is being able to queue doly guards on a freshly flipped camp to make it just a bit more difficult for a solo to reflip. tactics yo! LOL

And I actually did make a contribution,
I gave you suggestions about what to do.Just because you’ve chosen to disregard what I had to say doesn’t mean I didn’t have anything to say. And it certainly doesn’t make me a troll.
Having a broken system and putting yourself in a bad situation are not mutually exclusive in this case. In fact, with the exception of responding to people who have nothing better to say except that I’m a troll or that I have no business posting in a tier 8 thread (All off-topic or "extraneous" in themselves), I have not posted anything off topic in this thread.

you are telling us the system is broken.
you are telling us to run away from the problem.
i joined ET with no knowledge of WvW. i didn’t start messing with it at all for at least a month. now i have a guild, friends, etc. i am not gonna pull up my roots and RUN AWAY from the problem like a coward. it’s BROKEN (by your own admission), and i expect it fixed.
it’s broken. let that sink in... cuz i think that even tho you’re agreeing its broken, i don’t think you truely understand what that means. there is a tier of WvW that is currently fundamentally screwed up so bad that it’s a black hole of despair. SF is currently owning by nearly DOUBLE OUR COMBINED SCORE... and will STILL not pull out of the tier any time soon... unless someone ELSE drops into the tier.
running away from the problem does nothing to FIX the problem. all it does is exacerbate it... make it worse... spread the problem to OTHER servers.
you coming in here and flippantly saying "phht. whats the big deal, just transfer. its your own fault" is crass, rude, uncalled for, and WRONG. so please, take your opinion, wad it up in a little ball, and shove in in a place that will garner me an infraction if i describe it in detail, because you are NOT helping.

i was in a CM attempt this morning. (some of you may have seen a brief mention of it earlier). Granted, it was my first time in there, but wow… i’m so very glad the whole game isn’t like dungeons. if it were, i never would have made it past my first few levels before setting the game aside. we managed to get thru the fights till almost the end with a reasonable amount of difficulty… some deaths, some frustration, but no stonewalling. and then… “the gauntlet”. que big frig’n room chock full of bandits that, if we choose to try and fight, they zerg rush us like sharks at a feeding frenzy… OR we can try to run thru.
numerous deaths and 6 silver worth of repairs for me later, we gave up.
giving up IS NOT FUN
i feel like i wasted my whole morning.
fortunately Teq was up right after and i was able to take out my frustrations on him.
i swear i don’t know how i’ll get my monthly dungeons at this rate >.>
