guild puzzle is better than challenge at handling large vs small. its perfectly reasonable for a 6 man group to do a puzzle (well… i have to admit i would hate to try the icicle room in the snowden drifts puzzle with only 6). thus, no disparity for that commendation.
Langmar Estate’s picture room called and wants to beat you over the head with player-count gating. :-/
It is rather obnoxious to try to do Guild Missions with 8 or 9 people. You make a good point: there isn’t a consistent “You Must Be This Tall to Ride” with guild activities and that moving target can make it tough for small guilds.
If I need to turn out 8, I can do that. If I need to turn out 15, I need to recruit some more. Player-count gating, if used, should at least be consistent.

I get frustrated with the overreaching – Guild Halls as player housing, really? – because making these threads significantly longer and harder to read hurts the discussion and limits the ability for others to participate. When contributors drop 12,000 characters of a proposal that WILL. NEVER. HAPPEN., it just pushes away people with good, small, workable ideas.
Keeping ideas brief and realistic shows respect for the dozens or hundreds of individuals trying to participate.

I’m going to agree and disagree. I like the new circles for many of the same reasons. But if your primary concern is letting the animations shine, you’ve got the wrong target.
I can see animations above the red circles. I cannot see animations through the light show of particle effects.
When I’m fighting bosses, I find it nearly impossible to see what the boss is doing. Until they properly clean up the particle effects, the new red circles make it easier to avoid the hits.

I seriously don’t understand why would people want to spend more money on this game. The game is amazing and all that but why pay for something when you can have it for free, like it should be.
I think it comes with the implicit suggestion that there will be less gem-store pandering (animal hats, animal mini pets, animal backpacks, etc) and more skins, etc available in-game through completing content.

^vouch +1. Great community to fight against. Hope you guys can rotate into T3.
I’m not sure NSP is ready for T3, at least not full time, but getting a chance to try it out every so often might be fun. We just need a bit more coverage in SEA time.

Theres the newlyweds in Ascalon Settlement in Gendarran Fields that come outside for the first time in days and then go back in after a few seconds.
My favorite hetero relationship in the game is the bandit man and the seraph woman, hidden away. I don’t remember where it is, but when I found it I sat with them for a while.

Thanks for that, do you happen to remember their names?
I thought it was just “Romancing Bandit” and “Romancing Seraph” or something?

The first few missions we got Prince Rurik. He was annoying. He was a pain. He is the most hated NPC in the gw lore ever (still beating Trahearne AND Scarlet with a landslide).
You hated Prince Rurik! Prince Rurik!?
Wow. He might have been petulant, but he was also right. But maybe I’m just sympathetic because I think my father is wrong about everything too.

Nothing is quite as fun as ganking a map completer. Oh well, all good things come to an end.
This is trolling, right? No respectable roamer should find joy in killing a map completer.

I thought the computer would look at our friends and put us in that map. I found a map with a good node layout so I friended a bunch of people from map chat that were doing the FG champ farm on that map. Switched characters and landed in a different shard. I tried zoning in and out, going to character select and back, switching characters, dropping those people off my friends list and nothing worked. From then on I was put on the shard I didn’t want.
We need to be able to flag our accounts for important choices AND the computer needs to give strong weight to these choices.
Friend List is not currently used. They said this somewhere but I forget the source. It is something they’d like to do, but right now the only factors are Language, Server, Guild, and Party, iirc.
www.getunicorned.com / northernshiverpeaks.org
The problem with combining servers is that you’re forcing people together who may not want to be together. I wouldn’t mind combining with Server A, for example, they mostly seem alright. But a merger with Server B? Those guys drive me crazy!
By allowing alliances, you let individuals/guilds choose their side. Perhaps you could “force” mergers by having less Alliances than Worlds, but I tend to prefer keeping them the same. So many guilds have taken their names from their servers, I think it’d be rather disruptive to force guilds to change to an Alliance with a different name.

I don’t care for 5 man group dungeons, and Anet’s continued to add them on occasion.
Yeah, on occasion. Singular. As in they’ve added one dungeon path since launch.
If you’d like to count Fractals, then increase that to 3 occasions.

Here’s ways some of these suggestions could be implemented while still not being a massive implementation effort:
1) Each weapon has a #5 skill (or #3 for main-hands) tied to the weapon, not the weapon/class combo. Meaning there’s a Greatsword 5 which is an option for Mesmer, Guardian, and Warrior. You can swap between your class/weapon-specific #5 or choose the weapon-specific #5.
2) Instead of subclasses, how about race-specific trait trees? Putting points in these trees would allow you fixed traits (at 10, 20, and 30 deep) which would improve racial skills and primarily racial elites. These trees could have different stat bonus combos than the other five trees allowing slightly different stat diversity.
These would be something along the lines of…
Asura: Golemancy
Norn: Animal Spirits
Sylvari: Power of Nature
Charr: Warband
Human: Divinity
I won’t go so far as to suggest a full list of traits, but here’s an Asuran version.
Per trait point: +1% damage from golems, +3% health to golems
10 points invested: golems last an extra 30 seconds.
20 points: golems to not have a time limit.
30 points: summoning any golem summons an extra 7-Series golem.
(I have not spent much time thinking about balance here, these are just an example.)

I don’t think people realize how large-game development works. They aren’t saying its impossible, nor that they will never do it, what they say every time something is difficult is: there is too little benefit for the relative cost of actually addressing this issue as of present. What does that mean? In this case it might take them, for example, 100 man-hours of work to fix this (just a number). That is 100 man-hours they are taking away from meaningful things, like real bug-fixes that are impacting the game, to do something that really isn’t that big of a deal.
actual i know how it works and if u think about it u will see its a designflaw that dont need to be defend. it was clear that that sigillsystem is give an advantage to 2-weaponsets right after start. every designer who hasnt thinked about that and was responsible for that should get fist in the face.
this is a problem adressed already in beta. the problem is the list is to long, what also is the fault of the designer.. i hope he was getting fired after the mess he was developed
Within a couple sentences, you suggested that a developer be physically assaulted and fired. Do you work at a company that will assault you if you make a poor choice? Or an unpopular choice? Do you work at a company that will fire you if you make that choice?
I’m sick and tired of idiots here threatening developers because they dislike something about the game. You ought to be banned from these forums, but amazingly, ArenaNet tolerates this nonsense.
As far as the OP, don’t 2-handed weapons also have higher base damage to help compensate for the single sigil? Just wondering if you think that would/should be adjusted down if 2-handed weapons get 2 sigils?

If this exists and is active, either the players are not giving the right feedback, Anet is not giving enough detail to get the right feedback, or the feedback that is being given is being ignored.
And who are you to decide what is right feedback?
Right is a matter of opinion. Something that you feel is right might be the completely opposite for a couple of other people and so on.
If there exists a player feedback device that did not throw a fit over 300 gold per commander tag color, that feedback device is not working properly.

As somebody who wants to finish the event (because I am primarily motivated by success, not loot), I am so. so. so. tired of farmers ruining this for me. If you fixed it so that champs didn’t spawn when the Aetherblade Pirate Captain is up (and, like you suggested, added Empyreal Fragments on victory), I think that’d go a long way toward making it better.
sure goodluck finishing invasions without ANY FARMERS entering those invasion maps who always SPEEDS UP 1st and 2nd wave in order to farm final wave (aether monies yummy), besides why do u think peeps like me hop on my cleric guard doin invasions leaving my frostgorge farm with my warr if the monies is not worthed it?
if u want someone to blame, BLAME THOSE SILLY COMs who pile on each other instead of splitting up and succeeding the invasions!

A: It spawns more champs. AKA farming.

I don’t think the WvW Forum Specialist needs to be the world’s best or most active WvW player. His kill count is somewhat irrelevant.
I do think it would have been better for ArenaNet to select somebody ALREADY ACTIVE in this community. It’s a puzzling choice. That’s not to cast any aspersion on Marmatt who could be a perfectly reasonable guy.
But if the collective response is “Who?!” followed by a lot of head-scratching, it’s worthy of at least some measured expression of discontent.

Orpheal, 90% of your skill unlock ideas sound, to me, like either:
1) Go to Dulfy. Look up process for unlocking skill. Waypoint. Perform action. Repeat X times until complete.
2) Go to Dulfy. Look up thing to kill. Waypoint to nearest location. Kill. If group is required, insert period of time asking guildies to come with.
I played GW1 and there’s a few things that people remember about that game that they might be too find of. Specifically, people are remembering the interesting challenge of capturing ELITE skills and trying to put that process in GW2.
Now, if you are saying that a Signet of Capture mechanic should come back for ELITE SKILLS ONLY, I could get behind that. Sounds fun. Something to do, but it won’t overwhelm me with my 10 toons.
If you are suggesting this mechanic for utility skills, I’ll reiterate my “this is not fun, give us stuff to do with skills, don’t gate the unlocking.”

A possible solution would be to do something vaguely akin to story dungeons vs. explorable dungeons: Let players choose which fractal they want to play, but in return they will get fewer rewards, or not be able to level up their fractal level, or something like that.
I love all of your post, but just want to chime in: my Practice Mode proposal above would, I think, accomplish this. Would be glad for any feedback.

But please, keep making these posts thinking we’ll forget it is the same handful of trolls every time.
www.getunicorned.com / northernshiverpeaks.org
Please don’t be upset by this, but I’d like to pick at what you said because I think it’s important.
In my case I tried using the current megaserver system to do a few bosses, half simply didn’t spawn
Bugged events can be fixed. This is not evidence that Megaserver is a bad idea or unworkable. Plenty of events bugged before Megaserver. This isn’t even a new thing.
the other half died so quickly in a hail of fire that it felt pointless, 10-15 mins prep for the Fire Elemental then it died in 30 seconds.
World Boss event scaling has always been a mess. My server routinely had tons of people in these events and all the bosses melted like this. This isn’t a problem caused by Megaserver, it’s existed for awhile.
World Boss event scaling can be fixed even if Megaserver remains.
Given that and the fact that we can no longer use gw2stuff to let us know when a boss or temple is up so I’m operating in the kind of informational limbo that existed when the game first launched prompted me to pretty much give up on PVE for now while I try sPVP for a while.
You don’t need gw2stuff. The boss schedule is posted. I agree that Temples are more difficult.
I like sPvP, but don’t expect to get the love and attention of devs over there either…
If/when they start fixing the megaservers I’ll give it another go but they really need to get a move on. Rolling “broken” software out that removes a bunch of features that people are used to and just leaving it there is never a good idea.
But it’s not broken. You just don’t like it.

But that would mean taking a break from mind-blowing, gut-wrenching war!

I am increasingly concerned that ArenaNet hasn’t devoted enough resources to meet both the quality and quantity expectations of the playerbase.
Quality is up substantially, but it appears as though it’s at the expense of quantity.
If the story episodes are only going to be 30-45 minutes, I’d venture you’d have to deliver an episode per week without breaks to keep the playerbase happy. 52 episodes per year. Not the 12/year we’ve had as our Season 2 pace. (Now that said, some other episodes were a bit longer, so we can be generous and call it a 24-episode / year pace… but it’s still not nearly enough.)
What will it take to get double the content we’re getting now at the same quality? Do I just need to buy more gemstore crap? I’ll buy more gemstore crap.

I think the portals should have dropped from a wider variety of game locations/modes.
That could have been made, but then they would have to reduce the drop rate somewhat : more players having a chance to drop it, but not more beta spot available.
And I would never have come here to complain about it. The only reason I’ve given criticism is because of the very restrictive nature of where the item drops, not the number of participants in the beta.

Hey, is there any reason why raids wouldn’t just scale to your size? So like… 5-20 man, bring what you can, and it scales.

I agree with the OP. While I’m happy that the folks in China get a chance to get these items, I’m still a bit disappointed that having Molten gloves or the Gas Mask no longer means you were there.

Enemies need to attack faster but with smaller damage spikes. Enemies should also dodge big, telegraphed attacks the same way players would.

Example before I even brought Guild Wars 2 I was looking forward to this mysterious place called WvW now its a place I am “forced” to go too, not on my own terms when I feel I want to for a bit of a change, but in order to get 100% I have to go there.
Please keep in mind I have zero aspirations for legendary anything…
“In order to get 100%”
So just don’t get 100%. If you can’t overcome the challenge, you don’t deserve the reward. The reward which provides no extra gameplay. And is completely unnecessary.
I’ll give you an example: I suck at jumping puzzles. I spent hours banging my head on Mad King’s Clocktower. I gave up.
I didn’t cheat. I didn’t run to the forums to beg and plead ArenaNet to give me the title/reward for trying my hardest. I simply did. not. get. the. title. Same thing for Liadri: it seemed like a pain, I was busy, so I didn’t get the title.
(However, the second time they came around, I committed myself to them and managed to complete both of them.)
Don’t want to be in a PvP environment? Don’t ever step into WvW. That’s fine!
…buuuuuut you don’t get the “Been There. Done That.” title because YOU WEREN’T THERE AND YOU DIDN’T DO THAT.

If the player names themselves Greefa or The Griefer, I think it’s pretty obvious what the intent is.
www.getunicorned.com / northernshiverpeaks.org
I suppose the questions to ask are, Is the initial build cost important? And why?
This is a great question! Personally, I love the idea of having a guild hall that’s easily within reach for everybody. Perhaps a basic guild hall that you can then upgrade for a cost.
I think the idea of having there be a charge is two-fold: 1) prestige and 2) to limit the number of guild halls for single-man guilds.
Guild Halls might not have a huge performance impact sitting out there empty, but imagine every player has one or two personal guilds, each with a guild hall. That does add up.
Having some sort of minimum player count would help, though you could also potentially invite a bunch of people, get your hall, and kick them. That’s probably not behavior Anet wishes to incentivize.
www.getunicorned.com / northernshiverpeaks.org
Eh, his build is probably alright except for Hardening Persistence potentially drawing aggro. That’s really not the issue. He’s 95% running the meta build.
But for somebody who’s 95% meta to have such a negative attitude toward the meta? It’s likely a sign of large attitude issues. Huge red flag.
www.getunicorned.com / northernshiverpeaks.org
For leveling, I would suggest Candy Corn Almond Brittle. Buy it off the trading post.
www.getunicorned.com / northernshiverpeaks.org
Chris saying it’s a well made point when on a reactions that says “For example, I would pay $25 (2000 gems) for player housing that is meaningful and flexible and useful. Would enough players pay that much to justify development by Anet?” is basically agreeing that micro-transaction and the living story model reduces the quality you can deliver.
It’s nice to see a developer say something about that, but then maybe it’s an idea to rethink that model.
As a company you do not only want to make money but also deviler a good product I would think.
I disagree with this. If anything, having a consistent cash-flow helps reduce the risk of developing the game. Expansions can sell poorly, so there’s an inherent risk of losing money and business pressure to constrain the overall effort required. By having a cash shop, ArenaNet should be seeing a consistent revenue stream.
They know their funding model, they know how many resources that buys them, and they know (to some extent) that they’ll keep getting that money in the near future.
That isn’t to say that 1) expansions are a bad idea or 2) ArenaNet isn’t secretly working on an expansion without telling us, of course.
You are correct, though: the developers DO want to deliver a quality product. For most of them, not only do they play the game, they work with it 40, 50, 60 hours/week. This game means more to them than I’d venture it does to us.
I believe they made the decision to go without subscriptions or (frequent) paid expansions because they truly believe it’s the best way to deliver their game, both from a quality and from a profit standpoint.

4. Zerker do not mix with non-Zerker
To put it in simple terms: A Zerker expects the boss to die to a full Zerker team by the time they used up their 2nd dodge. You did not bring Zerker, therefore the boss did not die because you lacked damage. The Zerker dies as they did not have a 3rd dodge.
You blame the Zerker for dying and being a bad player. The Zerker blames you as they already calculated that they would not need a 3rd dodge if you had enough Damage in the first place. It is true that if you had brought Zerker, they would not have died(as they would never need a 3rd dodge). It is also true that if the players were not Zerker, they would not have died(but the fight would take longer). Therefore, Zerkers and non-Zerkers do not mix.So much this.
Nothing worse than a self-righteous non-zerker in a zerker team big noting themselves because they survived. Only to show their ignorance of how the mechanics work.
Yup. Exactly. The most important thing for the health of the dungeon community is letting these communities segregate themselves.

I don’t really have much interest in arguing with you, Listingbird. I have no hope of changing your mind and I honestly don’t give a rat’s kitten what you think.
That said, I believe that it is a bad idea to take developer statements so far out of context. It means that, over time, we’ll get less and less communication. In addition, the communication we do get will have to be so heavily vetted, it will become bland and useless. We’ve already seen it. You’re making it worse.
You may deny it and stick to the formal reading (because it easier to argue on)
If the “formal reading” – the actual meaning, not the one you made up – is “easier to argue on,” I assume that means I’m right.
By reading the comments as stated, my point stands.
By reading the comments based on years worth of forum-poster reimaginings, your point stands.
I’m happy with that assessment.

I think everybody wants new zones, new weapons, new armor, etc. That’s pretty much a given.
www.getunicorned.com / northernshiverpeaks.org
Inspired by CharJC, here’s what it looks like right now on my server. Note the not-ridiculous number of players. Also note that I recognize all these guild tags: EG LION RISE GSCH Aco Shdw Ph LUN SIN, putting the number of players almost certainly part of my server at half, maybe higher.
I have a much slower PC (i5 3770, Radeon HD7770, 8gb) which explains the lower framerate.
I’m really confused about all these pictures showing so many people in the Keep as it doesn’t match with my experience. At all.
Take that same picture pre reset when people get kicked out of wvw. Also read the chat when that happens. It be interesting to see what this reset is like after they tweaked the numbers (if they have).
Look, if your point is that during the brief period prior to WvW reset, Vigil Keep is overrun with players and it brings your computer to your knees, that’s fine. I’ll accept that. I won’t argue with you at all.
My point is that people are posting videos of an overrun-by-players Vigil Keep and saying it’s ordinary, everyday reality now. That doesn’t match with my reality. I’m not disputing it, I’m just presenting my own side.
As best as I can tell, greater than half the players on my megaserver at any given time belong to my server, Sanctum of Rall. I’ve had a couple people accuse me of not caring about my guild or my community, that is false. I am a guild leader of a small guild (140 roster, probably 15 active daily) and I care about them all very much. <3 I also care about my server, have taken the time to learn about its history and namesake, Roger “Oldroar” Rall, and participate regularly in server activities and Teamspeak meetings.
I am also not a troll. I had high hopes for megaserver, some of which have been met (more people in maps!) and some of which haven’t (put in maps with people on your friends list!) However, as somebody who is “mostly happy” with the changes and finds that people in the world are “mostly happy” as well, I feel that it’s important to give my own opinion as best as I can – and without trying to negate the opinion of others.
I recognize there are problems on EU servers with languages. While those problems do not affect my gameplay, they should be fixed. I recognize that there are problems for RPers. While those problems do not affect my gameplay, they should be fixed. I recognize there are problems with guild missions. These do affect my gameplay, they should be fixed.
A poster claimed that “a thousand” people have come here to post their negative feedback. Poppykitten! I’d say 90% of the posts are the same 20 people arguing the same points over and over. (Including myself.)
If you actually care about helping ArenaNet and providing useful feedback, as opposed to simply raging, you could perhaps do so by posting your own screenshot. Like I did. Like CharJC did. Show us how none of the players are part of your guild or server community. Show us your 1fps. You’ll win far more support from me if you show it to be true because right now it sounds like a lot of hyperbole.
www.getunicorned.com / northernshiverpeaks.org
I like the rng here, it makes looting enemies much more exciting since you never know… maybe you’ll get something cool. That’s one of the best parts for me personally, because I don’t want everything NOW, I want something to do in the long-term. Exactly what we got.
Maybe it’s just me.
I think that was the idea. It makes certain items valuable. The problem is that, at this stage, it feels forced. If it were in the game since launch, it would have been fine. But now, two years in, go back and run this meta event a bunch to hope you get some item so you can work toward a pittance of chivos? Ugh.
Collections should have launched with a new continent as a way to make Hearts worthwhile. Do the heart, get access to the vendor, items from collections within. (And remove Hearts from map completion.)
www.getunicorned.com / northernshiverpeaks.org
I think the new trait system is a good start. For me, with 7 80’s, it doesn’t make that much of a difference. I think for new players to the game, it gives them A LOT more to do.
I’m hoping this means we’ll be getting more traits and more unique challenges over time.
www.getunicorned.com / northernshiverpeaks.org
This thread is still being ignored ? Why ?
I doubt it’s being ignored. There just hasn’t been a response yet. My guess is ArenaNet is surprised at the massively negative response (like they seemed to be with Ascended gear) and are trying to figure out how to respond.
