However if you talk about reducing way-points (That was, what was being talked about) then the question becomes if you need to replace it with something and then mounts come to tough.

I want to be very clear here: you misunderstand. I was not talking about reducing waypoints. I was talking about adding additional zones without waypoints and events/missions/quests that take you from the entrance to somewhere else.

Mounts are not at all a part of this. It would be things like escort quests where you can’t just skip ahead.

If people seem like they’re hostile toward your mounts discussion, it’s because you’ve misunderstood the original suggestion and taken it on a very different path.

Which begs the question why for 9 long years has Arenanet in both GW1 & 2 constantly tried to join the two together! (imho) fairly simple equation, if you want to really make a PvP game then make a PvP game don’t sugar coat it with an outstandingly beautiful PvE, or do both and keep them separate from each other.

It’s almost like the idea of PvE and PvP being totally separate things is a construct that some players have come up with and ArenaNet has spent 9 long years attempting to send the message that GW isn’t a PvE-only game or a PvP-only game, but rather a game with mixed aspects meant to be enjoyed as a comprehensive whole where each part enhances the other.

Not sure who you are referring to but I think most people are talking mainly about community / guild related stuff.

I typically don’t like to call other people out, so here’s a few quotes I gathered from around the forums without names attached.

" I have only completed a whopping ONE world boss event since April 15th. I used to be able to do several a day. Now, every single time I’ve attempted to participate, the WB never spawns. Either I miss the event because I can’t make the tiny window of the exact time it starts, OR when i actually do happen to make it, the event always ends early because someone didn’t know you aren’t supposed to do this or that or the boss won’t spawn."

“So far I have been paired with my guild/friends/world mates a whopping zero times”

“The pve side of things have be totally ruined. I log on now to stand around waiting for something to happen. And if nothing happens, I continue to stand around. Is there an achievement for loitering/standing?
Is there anything substantial that I can do when i log on? Please do not ask me to water the plants for Farmer Diah in Shaemoor Fields.”

“Getting rly sick of this… everytime i do a zerg i DC and cant get back.. mostly when its a really good group aswell… I was gonna finish tequatl today… random DC.. gets put in overflow where they didnt even dent him… this is pretty much forcing me to quit the game since i cant play lol.. will try again in a few weeks i guess”

“I’ve lost many dungeon rewards coz of this.
Fix it please!!
Now I cannot complete any dungeon.”

That’s a smattering. Keep in mind the worst offenders have their threads deleted, so I can’t even include the really bad stuff here.

There’s quite a bit of complaining about quite a wide range of things, at least based on my perusal of the forums.

However, let me ask you a question. Why should I go through the effort to learn Wing2, if I already feel that the Raid game mode inspires a toxic community, and because of that, is not something I want to support?

It’s nobody’s responsibility to convince you to do the content. If your attitude is going to be “why should I bother, you’re all toxic” then I’d just prefer you not be in the raiding community.

“Hey you stupid toxic kittens, convince me to play with you” isn’t really the way to go about it.

Raids..Now impossible for newcomers?

Ask me to drop a skill or take an alternative? Like the shield or legend? Sure no problem. What matters is the attitude and mindset. Do not ask me to adopt meta clone, I will not do it. When met with this, I meet hostility.

The term for this is “high-maintenance.” As a raid leader, I can’t trust you to do the right thing automatically, nor can I just tell you what I want. Instead, I must tiptoe around making sure not to offend your sensibilities.

I would not invite you back to my groups and that is why. You’re too much work. I can’t devote that much energy to you while still successfully leading the group.

I’m sure you won’t like that answer, but that’s me keeping it 100.

Wrong. It’s just your mindset. I happen to do perfectly fine on my own or with a team, you just have the mindset of everyone is incompetent and must follow your directions or they will not perform to standard.

I do not get offended easy. What I am offended by is the terrible sense of community when it comes to raids, it’s sad when someone cannot enjoy content because people who have attitudes and hostility happen to had time to get into positions first.

I don’t think you’re incompetent, I think you’re a poor team player, difficult to manage, and likely to lead to group drama. This thread is a good example. You don’t mesh well with other raiders… and worse, you don’t seem to care about that. Or you think it’s our problem.

If you can’t play well in a team, it’s not crazy for the team to decide you don’t belong.

[MEGA] Super Mega Happy Fun Time- Sct of Rall

timmyf.1490

Hey everybody!

I run a small-to-medium-sized guild on Sanctum of Rall called Super Mega Happy Fun Time! We’ve recently had a few folks get sucked into some real-life commitments and have found ourselves in need of a few new friends. What kind of exciting things can you expect?

Casuals welcome! PvE! Exploration! Leveling! Alts! Lore! Dungeons! Fractals! Dance Parties! Vent and Alcohol! Exclamation Points!

We’re looking for laid-back folks who enjoy doing activities with other folks you know. By name. Friends, not random strangers. As such, we can be a little choosy, but if you’re more of a fun-loving, tolerant individual (and less of a min-max Zerker n00b-hater), you might find us a good home.

Oh, and we have a custom PvP arena and are working to build up a PvP group, so if you’re interested in that (or just getting your toes wet), that’s a new focus.

Best bet is to message me in-game: Loki Karaoke or timmyf.1490

Hope you hear from you!

The promise of GW2 has never been “no grind,” it’s been “no grind for stats, grind for cosmetics.”

You could argue as to whether the game has been successful (I think Ascended equipment is where ArenaNet faltered…) but that was always the deal.

Twilight is a completely unnecessary cosmetic upgrade to an Ascended greatsword. That’s why it seems like a grind.

When it comes to failure and events, you have to keep one thing in mind: populations change throughout the day. It wouldn’t be all that great, especially for those of us with limited time, for the entire meta across Tyria to be in “failed” status when we log in.

My suggestion for handling this: the most severe failure cases should be gated behind a previous success. Meaning: you successfully complete an event that “checks” to see whether you have a reasonable group with a chance to complete the meta.

Tequatl is a great example of how this doesn’t happen. TQ attacks no matter what. If, instead, you had to complete a “Draw Tequatl from the water” event first, you wouldn’t have such a huge mess in Sparkfly all the time.

(You can make a case for that being a good thing, and it can understand that. There are certain events which should not be hidden behind these gates, but it’s something worth considering if the plan is to increase the pain upon failure.)

Posted by: timmyf.1490

timmyf.1490

The only real way to solve the problem is to turn WvW teams be created like EoTM color schemes; not individual servers but collections of servers, and simply create larger maps and have dynamic queue scaling to accommodate for more players.

Then on the back end, keep track of things like kills and claims by guilds based upon server, and use the data to create new team compositions for the next week to be more balanced. This creates a constantly-shifting experience and prevents bandwagoning to mid or lower-tier servers while emphasizing server loyalty – the bottom of the bottom will be raiding alongside the best there is, keeping things interesting for pretty much everyone involved.

Let’s bring the “successful” “WvW” “experience” of EOTM to WvW and kill the game mode for good!

Ok.. good points. I wouldn’t want that to be the norm either. Anyways, to the “WHY people want to end representation”… for me I thought that the buff sharing between guilds would sort of work towards a natural guild alliance where differing guilds would work together to cover all the buffs.. perhaps not the best way, but a thought I had.

A majority of the complaints I have about the guild system would be fixed with a chat channel for each guild so people don’t need to rep to read guild chat, but can opt to listen in like all other chat channels. For some reason I just thought doing away with the majority of representing would be better, I guess not so much.

Thanks for letting me know why it’s a bad idea, I hadn’t really thought of it that way.

For what it’s worth, I agree with you on the goals. I think people should be able to see all their guild chats and I think there should be an alliance system. I just don’t think multi-representation is the best way to do it.

Just don’t be lazy and command better.
It’s a step in the right direction compared to last years follow the Dorito and zerg type of thing.
I love the Pavilion this time around.
Just stop expecting to get everything handed to you without working for it.

I tried a couple times. Everybody zerged on one tag anyway. We couldn’t get 6 people to tag up.

I even tried – for the entire time between two runs – to get a group of 10-12 to join me on TS to do Boom Boom. Not a single person responded to me.

I’m giving up for a few days and hopefully people will learn the event.

A bunch of others have mentioned this, but I think it deserves repeating:

Horizontal Progression through new traits and skills, especially ones you have to EARN, could go a long way toward giving us something to do without undoing all the progress we’ve made so far.

If you were to create new instances with hard bosses and you unlocked the elite skill from that boss (sort of like GW1 skillcapping), that’d be great! Something that is challenging but doesn’t take a huge amount of time.

To the extreme of wanting NPC allies instead of talking to others in game? That’s kind of sad really.

It’s not necessarily that they don’t desire to talk to others. Some of us just prefer playing with NPCs. They don’t kitten at you, they don’t treat you like trash, they don’t randomly go afk, they don’t argue about how things should or shouldn’t be done, etc etc.

Some people just like to play solo. Doesn’t necessarily mean they aren’t social though. Although I’m sure there are plenty of people that are shy or have a hard time reaching out to other socially (ie socially awkward). That’s no reason to judge them so harshly.

There are plenty of communities where the poor behavior you’re citing isn’t tolerated. You just have to look for it.

I’m seeing tons of angry posts, I’d love to hear from some other people, like myself, who have enjoyed the patch so far! I spent about an hour last night looking through all my skins I’d unlocked… Collecting more dyes… Coming up with strategies for more dyes and more skins.

My guild decided to turn guild bank into a take-one-leave-one location for dyes and skins. Most of the dyes are pretty cheap on the trading post, but this is a nice way to expand our collections without paying the fees.

We then got a guild group together to go unlock some traits, ran AC with new grandmasters (I took the distortion-on-kill trait with Mesmer – combined with Blurred Frenzy, I have SO MANY EVADES), and played some PvP. Most of my friends left the Arah PvP track active, but I switched over to the Balthazaar backpiece. (Not that I need anymore back pieces!)

Anyway, I’m super-pumped tonight to switch up my Necro build and try WvW with the new heal-in-death-shroud trait.

Anybody else really enjoy the patch or find something cool last night?

There are no Vistas, there are too few Points of Interest, there are far too few Dynamic Events, and I personally wouldn’t have balked at some Renown Hearts either. Outside of harvesting runs or Queen kills, there’s really no reason at all to spend any time in Southsun.

Would you go to Southsun if there were events that you could warp in, spawn immediately, and complete for a chest with a guaranteed rare or two? And when you finished, you could start another chain? Up to maybe three or four paths?

That’s basically what I’m suggesting.

Actually, I think they do listen. Very much. Small guild leaders like myself just didn’t phrase our concerns well-enough. We said, “We don’t have the influence! We can’t do it! People will leave!”

They addressed that. And quickly! It’s just that they fixed the symptom and not the underlying problem. I think this is proof that they hear us and do not want to destroy small guilds… but the solution seems sub-optimal.

It’s not necessary for ArenaNet devs to show up here, read posts, and comment. And it is ALWAYS appreciated when they do, even when I don’t like what they’re saying. <3

You get laurels for logging in. You don’t need to do the dailies to get laurels. Finishing a daily awards a chest and three dailies awards 10 AP.

Laurels, Mystic Coins, etc are awarded for logging in. If you “miss” a day, you don’t miss out on that day’s reward. You get it the next time you do log in.

Orpheal, you are making an assumption I think is clearly false given what we know about this game so far. You are assuming that all three (or however many) subclasses will be equally attractive, so instead of everybody playing Zerker Greatsword Warrior, there are now three different types of Warriors. Look, uniqueness!

Wrong.

Instead, there will be an ideal subclass, based on DPS, and everybody will “choose” that. Players who do not pick that subclass will be marginalized the same way non-Zerker builds are marginalized now.

More skills. More weapons. More traits. More armor. No needless restrictions on who can use them.

(Side note: it’s very unfair to say that GW1 dual-classing and sub-classing are the same thing. Choosing a second class in GW1 did not remove options from your main class, it only added additional options.)

Item Prestige: Not being respected?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: timmyf.1490

timmyf.1490

Types of prestige
There are several types of prestige,

-“I was there prestige”: These are attendance rewards usually with some also having to be earned, they show you played back then or that you participated in a limited time event. Most living story skins used to fall into this category. Is destroyed by re-releasing the item by any means as the statement is no longer valid.

-“Skill prestige”: These would be items such as the tribulation mode weapons and Liadri they not only require you to play a certain activity but to do it to a high level of skill. Care has to be taken with these as power creep or an exploit can wipe out all their value in an instant.

- “Investment prestige”: These are items that take a large amount of resources be it time or money to complete and make a general statement about your playtime and choice of activity. Is wrecked by deflation/inflation or awarding of a previously high investment item for a low investment activity.

Requoted because relevant. All three types of these should exist to allow players with different goals and styles of play to acquire items with prestige.

The day they suspend me for afking without circumventing the afk timers is the day I will uninstall this game. Oh and I would make sure to ask for a refund for all the money I spent on this game in the last 6 months or whatever their refund rules are.

You could always just… you know… not leech.

For everybody asking for subclasses, I see where you’re coming from, but that seems like a HUGE change in game mechanics to bring something that I’m not even sure I want. The development effort would be incredible.

I’d rather focus on simpler, shorter-term changes which we could see this year that fit with the existing mechanics and systems of the game.

Right now the majority of the people playing are doing 1 of 6 things…. fractals, dungeons, world boss training, leveling a new toon, wvw/pvp or silverwastes. the more things you add to the game in terms of game modes, the less and less the other modes will have to work with. Your map theory is a wash as those already doing the mapping are gonna continue mapping in the new map content. You arent taking from any other categories, and those that do swap… do so temporarily, then back to wvw/pvp/dungeons or whatever.

A lot of what you say is very smart and I appreciate your thoughts, but you’re forgetting one important thing:

Players can PLAY MORE.

There are literally millions of people who STOPPED PLAYING. They can come back. Players who still play can play more. I have dozens of people in my guild who log on for their dailies and leave because there’s “nothing to do.”

Raids are something to do.

While raids could absolutely pull people from other modes, it could also pull people from other games and that needs to be a consideration as well.

Map Completion & WvW - why?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

This is a hilariously bad argument, as was the earlier statement you made that the game is 92% open world PvE.

As for 92% of PvE, see another poster’s calculations above. 92% or not, only an oblivious player would disagree that PvE is the main game mode which got most content and most updates.

I don’t imagine you visit the WvW subforum often, but WvW players are well aware of this fact, thank you.

As for hilarity, I’m simply making the same “logical” conclusions as the ones defending the current system here. If something from the Mists counts as “world”, then what about the other parallel worlds in the Mists? What about Southsun, Dry Top, Silverwastes? What about the moon above our head? What about Earth, since we from Earth know that Tyria is not the only inhabited planet? Why it tells us “100% world completion” if all those locations haven’t been explored by us?

I’m not sure where your inability to refrain from hyperbole and strawman assassination comes from, but I’ve said previously that new maps SHOULD count for world completion. Earth and the moon should not.

I can respect people who argue that challenge-reward balance is fine in this achievement (“Legendaries should be acquired through legendary feats”).

Your attitude toward players who think WvW map completion should count is anything but respectful.

I cannot, however, take serious the arguments of something being less displeasing as long as it is “optional”, or arguments of someone deserving to suffer in a video game because they themselves suffered more, or arguments which appeal to common sense but omit the places where it currently fails to work.

“Displeasing” is relative. WvW map completion may be displeasing to you and it may be enjoyable to me. I find gathering a full stack of each T6 mat to be displeasing, yet I don’t make threads here on the forums asking it to be removed from the process of creating a Legendary. Why? Because I can accept the requirements of the task set before me.

Legendaries have clear requirements. I can choose to complete them or I can choose not to complete them.

When you say you are “forced” to do things in a game, I can only laugh. Forced to grind for a title? A TITLE?

The point is that we each have different goals, interests, and motivations. If you expect for us to respect yours, you should try harder to respect ours.

You’ve completely ignored the biggest problem with the living story, most players WANT PERMANENT CONENT! You’ve got 10 pages of people telling you that they want new zones and more permanent content. Yet you haven’t responded or provided an answer to these players at all. I’m not trying to be rude, but I thought the idea of this thread was for you to listen to the community and provide us with feedback. You still need to address:

1. Permanent content! We want new areas!
(New zones and areas etc.)

2. The pace of the Living Story!
(2 weeks is too fast!)

It would be really appreciated if you could address these issues.

1. Demanding things from the developers will get you nowhere.
2. Bobby Stein – correct me if I’m wrong, guys – is a writer. He can’t address those issues because that’s not what his job is.

When I need gold, I’ll play the market.

Well there you go. ;-)

Most of us don’t have the time/interest/skill to do so. Myself included. It’s a bit harder of a climb then.

Guardian is not flying. We’re not getting air combat.

Edit: was this post intentionally ironic? A guy named “Smooth Penguin” assuming that wings = flying? Did I just miss the flightless bird joke?

It’s worth coming back to try Fractals if you haven’t already.

ArenaNet: form Player Council for feedback

Exactly. That said, having limited resources is a valid reason why the updates have been slow. That’s not my concern. My concern is, when we do get these updates, they often miss the mark in completely avoidable ways.

Commander Tag Colors don’t need to be a gold sink. Megaserver didn’t have to destroy intra-server communication. Wardrobe/Skin Locker didn’t have to be insanely expensive to keep your gear updated while leveling. Trait Hunting didn’t have to include incredibly time-consuming unlocks or level 80 unlocks for Adept traits.

I don’t have a lot of insight into ArenaNet, but what I see are VERY talented individuals who are just slightly missing the mark in really frustrating ways. But it’s very hard to step out of your situation, your particular point of view, to see little problems like this.

Players like us, though, can recognize these almost immediately. “Oh, we’ll be put on a map with people from all the servers? Cool. Wait, how am I going to broadcast info for my WvW event without giving that information to the enemy? At least guesting requires them to manually take those steps to join us. Now they’ll just be sitting with me in the same map?”

Also wanted to say a good way to think about a feature and losing or changing it i s to think of it in these terms.

Is this a feature I MUST have, SHOULD have, COULD have, or DON’T have to have. It’s easy to want everything but difficult to recognize which category something actually falls into for the good of the game in general.

I think being able to easily see the current Home World of guild members is a pretty obvious Must Have.

So far, it hasn’t seemed like open world massive encounters have taught players when to use conditions versus direct damage.

  • Players still bring zerk gear to fight Tequatl
  • You’ll still see people asking why they can’t damage Husks at Triple Wurm
  • Need I mention Condition Reflect on the Knights?

I didn’t really specify this well enough in my OP, but what I’m wondering is HOW ArenaNet can start to teach these mechanics to players. Yapping about it in /mapchat obviously isn’t working.

•stacking in the guild bank should be possible without first moving it to your own inventory.

Not possible for technical reasons – multiple people may be manipulating the guildbank contents at the same time. The current system prevents that from going horribly awry or being purposefully manipulated.

No. You’re just not thinking it through. (Another poster posted a slightly different implementation of this same thing, but here’s an alternate version.)

If withdrawing through drag-and-drop, you perform a check:

On begin-drag: note quantity of item
On drop: check quantity again

If quantity changed, drag-and-drop fails
If quantity is the same, move items

Then what about elements of after effects? Will they have a pay expansion for a “clean” Orr?

Edit: I dunno why I’m putting down the word “Pay” maybe its because when I hear the term expansion that always comes to mind.

I doubt we’ll ever get a “clean” Orr… at least not Straits/Malchor’s/Cursed Shore.

I could see a Living Story update where we push into Arah (on the ground) and it’s clean.

This is exactly why we need new areas without the Personal Story: we could conceivably defeat a dragon and see its minions disappear.
