Kind of early to complain about lack of challenging HoT content when the expansion isn’t live yet, no???
Kind of too late to complain about it once the expansion launches and it isn’t there, no???
Nope…
See there are different aspects of challenging, you can make something’s execution challenging. I’d point to Lupi solos. I can’t do it right now, but I do understand exactly how it should be done, I just end up too slow on dodge buttons or get jumbled up and confused on my rotation of defenses leaving me attempting to use toolkit block when it’s not available and I eat a hit. It has a high level of challenge for it’s execution.
And yet there are people that solo lupi without any sort of issues whatsoever. Ergo it is no longer challenging. When you have learned to do something it will no longer be challenging.
A bit like reading. When you start learning to read it is extremely challenging, but when you have learned to do it there is no challenge in it whatsoever.
Except there is challenge to reading depending on what you are reading, there is also multiple levels of understanding.
you think playoff basketball isnt challenging for an NBA player?
winning tournaments?
marathons?
writing a song?
drawing a picture?
writing a book?
gymnastics?
dance?
^Everything is very easy when you know how to do it.

“Trolling” is just an cute word for “Sadism” used by people who don’t know that taking pleasure from causing the suffering of your fellow human beings significantly pre-dates the internet.
i think trolls remind us not to take ourselves too seriously. The ones that do are often bothered the most by it.

This won’t end well….
Unless you have a second account to post on, you just eliminated all hope of you successfully trolling….maybe not.
And you know what? That’s sad that so much work in such poor quality. I recognize that a lot of work went into such a poor concept. But just because a lot of work went into the concept does not mean that the result materialized as quality. I think that that thought they had a real “crowd pleaser” but it turned out that just having a guardian plus a bow and a thinly spread concept was not a crowd pleaser. I think that ArenaNet can do better. I trust that ArenaNet can do better. I know that ArenaNet can do better. ‘Dragonhunter’ is not the best they can produce as a concept. And that’s the ArenaNet that I want and expect. Not some half-effort product, but ArenaNet at its best. An ArenaNet that wants to inspire its constituency into fantastical game play.
My personal opinion is that they probably didn’t work on the name and the theme that goes with the DH more than 10 minutes. I could be wrong though, but I prefer to believe they scamped that instead of thinking they really worked hard for such a clunky result. In other words, I prefer to believe it was just a mistake and they’re still able to make something better instead of considering they’re just bad at this anyway.
I don’t want to insult anyone, but that’s really how I feel about the DH.
Why is this still such a big issue? I don’t know what happened that made gaming communities (especially mmo communities) feel so freaking entitled. A book doesn’t drop and the main character die and you see everyone crying on forums for them to rewrite books. People don’t die and movies and people say refilm it.
Poor comparison here.
You can hardly redo a film or a book, but you can easily bring some changes to a video game. Especially when it is still in development. However, it may happen that some films have alternative endings or that sort of things, and books get reedited with some changes.
Anyway we’re not talking about the entire game. Games, mostly MMOs, give us that great possibility to go back on almost anything, even after launch. Since it is just a detail that is probably not even finished, I can’t see how they couldn’t change it.
It’s nothing like redoing the whole game and selling it a second time in a “reworked” version.
Do you know why they don’t?
Because its their creative vision made into their chosen medium. Its not your call. If there are balancing changes, bugs, or exploits you want to bring to their attention that is what the forums are for, they should fix that but the“We don’t like this you should change it because……well because we said so” Is so dumb and not only negative to this game, but to every game made as well as our culture in general.
I think we gave enough arguments. It’s not “because we said so”. Anyway, if a large amount of people dislike something, it is probably the n°1 reason to change that thing. Arguments are just there to give more weight, not the reasons to make the change happen. And the fact that you are personally responsive to them or not doesn’t matter.
You shouldn’t tell us what we have the right to discuss or not. Gameplay, content, story etc… all are things we can discuss and we have the right to suggest changes.
Feel free to beliebve that only bugs, exploits and balance have to be touched. But there is no reason we shouldn’t talk about the rest too.
You are very much welcome to bring back your input about if you did or didn’t like the name but the expectation that because you or how ever many people didn’t like it that they should change it is absurd.
Well, if we think something is bad, we can tell them, right ?
Now if they’re actually asking for feedback, we have the right to judge what they did.
And since everything is still in development, it is certainly not absurd to expect some things to change. Because that’s what feedback is for.
It wasn’t too long ago that devs going against the grain was praised for their fresh idea and i personally am not a huge fan of dragon hunter but i also don’t want rehashed sentinels, paragons, paladin, crusader, ect ect I would personally prefer the chance to let the name grow on me.
There’s a huge gap between making something quite original, well made and coherent, and something definitely new but inconsistent and absolutely not in the same vein as what they did before.
I have said my argument calmly and explained it, so have a few others in this thread but since you refuse to actually read, who cares.
Link? I’ll be happy to read it, just less excited about having to dig for it myself
.
Should’ve thought of that before you tried to argue for almost 10 pages huh. Look for it yourself.

I’m re-posting my reply from another thread into here as its more relevant to this thread in the first place (even though its responding to another in the other thread). Apologies if you’re reading this twice and feeling confused.
Yes, i get the goofy feeling of the name. i know that many of us imagine some 12 year old at the D&D table for the first time introducing his half-elf warrior named Sylvan Deathmaker when we first heard the name, BUT…
While anyone can become a hunter of dragons, i think they meant it thus:
Just as a warrior in D&D might follow the teachings of a certain god, they are still a warrior and not say, a Paladin or cleric of that god. In the same vein, in GW2 while everyone is fighting against the dragons, the Guardians felt a deeper calling to this one particular act and having been the GW2 equiv of a paladin already, it made sense for them to take on this “calling” similar to how vampire slayers or witch hunters develop that singular unrelenting focus on going after and trying to erradicate whatever it is they are going after. Its more a description of an obsession fueled by events in the world around them. To that end then, i can be a bit more forgiving of the name. Even more so if the way we get the class introduced is because something happens to Eir, spurring her son on to take up her bow in search of her or to avenge her.
Then the fanaticism would definitely make sense.
Seriously, we play a game with “Warrior” and “Ranger” as class names already. Dragonhunter, while on the surface not as flashy or cool at first glance as Chronomancer or Reaper is still fine and possibly more understandable when tying it to actual class motivations.
Now you could argue that Bow is uncharacteristic of the Paragon but there is are no ground combat spears in game and no guarantee that they will ever happen.
My paragon in Guild Wars ran around using whatever weapons he dang well pleased, including, on occasion, various bows, of which there used to be many more varieties besides long and short, but evidently that’s now lost technology. Further, I would argue that arrows are essentially spears anyway, just small and with a high tech delivery system that compensates for their lack of weight. So heck yeah. Bring on them paragons!
So much immature kids…. This is sad to fill this topic with such kitten answer.
Lighten up a little. It may not be your kind of humor, but some of us are laughing. Why’s it bother you?
Bothersome when people in other thread are trying to make some serious progress and this thread is mocking that effort. It’s not being supportive at all.
That is not changing, mate. It has over 8 years. Too late to changes.
Now, forget this, let’s go back to Dragonhunter thread. We need to change the “dragon” in Dragonhunter for something else. That’s the only problem, as no single character is ever going to ‘hunt’ a dragon as if it was a freaking deer.
This thread is satire. The name Chronomancer is good.
The charr are fine as they are. I actually love how we have truly inhuman player characters instead of the coloured/horned/big-toothed/long-eared humans in other MMOs.
What should be adressed, however, is how much care is put into adapting armour skins for charr. The amount of helmets that have horns clip right through them in a very ugly and obvious way or even remove horns completely is astounding.
What the kitten, Anet? You can’t just tuck horns away as if they were hair.
And there are far too few armours that either hide or even implement the spot where the tails breaks through the pants or coat, again making the clipping very, very obvious. What makes this even more annoying is the fact that there are armours where these things are adressed just fine or even add to the armor’s look. I love how the Imperial Outfit’s dragon clings to the tail or how the “tail” on the light carapace armour acts as tail-guard for charr.
Any hope for a 2000 gem unlock of the Tengu as a playable race?
No.
If they keep it, the “high concept” will likely become a meme to the point nothing they say can be taken seriously.
Any high concept names like:
Dragon warlock
Death knight
Dragon wizard
Dragon necro
Dragon sorcerer
Dragon paladinStop it. All this “high concept” stuff is hurting my brain.
I love how “high concept” has now become synonymous with “bad”. :P
Any high concept names like:
Dragon warlock
Death knight
Dragon wizard
Dragon necro
Dragon sorcerer
Dragon paladin
This LOL

The fact that a feedback thread had to be opened on the name and we are at 20+ pages should be enough indication that the name is pretty terrible. There are a lot of better names that can be used. I hope Anet changes it.
What does “high concept” even mean?
It means “we’re not even sure ourselves but we try to find excuses by telling you that you are idiots if you don’t understand”.
Hi,
Any chance Anet may reconsider the name, or are we fighting an already lost battle here ?
Honestly that’s not really up to us. But given that they don’t want to openly concede that we may have a point, it doesn’t look all that likely. Stranger things have happened though. Considering that the expansion is still in development, they could always change the name in regards to player feedback. Though once it is officially released then it is probably set in stone.
One thing that could come out from this is that future specializations may at least be named without locking the player into a rigid ideology like the Dragonhunter’s fanaticism. It probably wasn’t even on their radar until users raised their concerns.

Let’s try to avoid deconstructing the motives/feedback of others. Instead let’s try to stay on topic which is about whether or not the name “Dragonhunter” is an appropriate name for the Guardian specialization.
- I much prefer a less-crowded zone. Hooray! Fewer zergs! It’s a shame my blissfully quieter world will only last an hour longer.
- I don’t want the speed buff you offer as an incentive. It messes with my jumping. When I want extra speed, I will do it myself, thank you very much.
This. Very much this.
As someone who preferred the instance based world of GW1, I prefer having less map chat spam and zergs running around thank you.
Someone needs to make a graphic with a stick propping up a box over a steak and a dragon flying overhead with the caption “Dragonhunter” and “#AnetLogic” written somewhere.
I like Dragonhunter.
I don’t like the sense of vocal minority entitlement on these forums.
How is it vocal minority entitlement? We were literally asked to provide feedback and to keep the feedback of the specialization name to this thread. If anything it is rather entitled to think that just because people disagree with you about the name (no matter how popular their opinion is or isn’t) they shouldn’t voice their opinions here. I don’t like the name but I am not going to call the people who do like it the ‘vocal minority’ or ‘entitled.’
The sense of entitlement that you think you can start a whine thread about the name of the Guardian specialisation.
What if someone wants to play a Guardian in GW2 but they want the class to be called a Paladin because it better fits their RPG stereotypes in the head, should they start whine threads about that?
What if they want the Guardian specialisation to use Pistol, Shortbow, Rifle or Sword-offhand instead, should they also create a whine thread with a biased poll that says what weapon do you want the Dragonhunter to have?
Why does the specialisation name even matter? Do you currently call yourself a Zeal Honor Virtues Guardian. Or will you actually just end up saying Bowguard anyway.
For someone complaining about entitlement, you seem to be on quite a high horse.
One user’s whining is another user’s constructive criticism. It’s probably important to point out that there wasn’t one thread about the Guardian specialization’s name. There was actually a dozen or so, hence why they were merged into this one thread by a mod.
Best to stay on topic rather than devolve this thread into criticising user criticism, or is it whining about whining?
I like Dragonhunter.
