Good times, good memories
Azhure, congrats to you and your guild. You’re having fun, playing the game as it was designed, and making people rethink a Pavlovian response of “kill Elemental, run to Ogre”.
Some people may not like that they’ve been caught off guard by the change in pattern, but to quote the Principia: “’Tis an ill wind which blows no minds.”
I’d also like to state that many times, people have killed the FE and then run off to do the SO very quickly. Many other people don’t get there in time, and miss out on the event, even if they do get into the opening. Having the event after the FE doesn’t mean everyone gets a reward for it. That’s part of why I have a fully charged key waiting for a day when I’m in the mood to trigger the event at an odd time. Having that key meant that I walked past a large herd of people calling for someone with a key to unlock the event for them. No one did.
This
The first time I made a key so I could do steam ogre I didn’t even manage to get a hit in to get credit. Pretty sure I was the only one with a key too cause I took a minute to get there and everyone was just running against the wall, waiting.
Azhure I stopped paying attention to Smooth Penguin by the second page, nothing anyone says will make any difference to him, and post after post he twists what people say to fit his own argument. He can call you a griefer and troll all he wants, but no one in a position to reprimand you will agree with him.
You just don’t want to wait.
Key thing here.
HoT isn’t a game full of grind. It’s a game full of long term goals.
But people want things now, so they try to get those long term goals as if they were short term goals. This results in the sensation that the game is ‘full of grind’.
Literally nothing of any immediate consequence requires leyline gliding. All the other masteries are more important and you’ll get them soon enough just playing the game. All the grind people keep complaining about is self-inflicted, because it’s all actually quite optipnal. You just don’t want to wait.
If it was up to me, I would leave it exactly as it is.
We don’t need to attract any more pve kittenters into pvp by dangling some carrot in front of them that they can’t get otherwise.
A prestigious title, and the shiny badge next to your name would more than suffice for true pvp players.
The probability of having a separate Solo Queue is looking bleak. So instead mourning for its absence, I’ve decided to create a list of mistakes commonly made in order to improve and progress further in the season.
The goal here is to help the community survive and extract enjoyment out of the game despite the unfavorable circumstances. Please add what you feel most SoloQers need to improve on.
I do not wish for this thread to be hostile or vitriolic.
1. Defend the points you just capped.
A lot of times people just wander off not knowing where to go once the team has two points capped.
2. It’s very risky to attempt to 3-cap with a team of pugs.
This is how teams get wiped. A brief 3 cap could easily turn up against you.
Going for that far cap works if heavy pressure is at mid and home.3. Don’t double or multi-cap
A strong indication that the team is likely to fail is when 2 people cap home at the start.
Multi-capping is not the same as node team fights. Only 1 person is needed to cap.4. Be map aware
In Khylo for example, there is no need for you to keep trebbing when the enemy has 3 capped due to your team being outnumbered and your teammates just wiped. Or, if you see the point you just capped is contested don’t run away especially if it was home or mid
5. Don’t bring garbage builds to ranked
You are doing yourself and the team a disfavor when you run garbage. If you soloQ, the best builds to run are sustain and some support. I personally get discouraged when teammates hp drop to red and then black in a matter of seconds.
Edit: I know this goes without saying but bring the class you are comfortable with. The ESL meta doesn’t necessarily apply in the first 3 divisions
Everything said is dead-on. We need a giant bullet board in Heart of the Mist next to the leader boards that has “Guidelines for Solo Queue Play” with these rules and more.
I would add
Blaming the team and QQ on mapchat doesn’t help winning
The biggest mistake is Anet not separating premade from solo queuers.
I’ve not seen this once in my 50 matches over the last week, it can’t be that prevelant. What division is this happening at? It certainly isn’t in Amber and Emereld.
I just made it to diamond today, but for me, it usually happens about 1 out of every 5 or 10 matches on average, regardless of division. I’m not even that worried about losing pips anymore. I don’t want to see these players in a match; it’s a waste of my time and it is extremely frustrating for the players on both teams that have to finish out a match that has already been decided. And just because things weren’t going the way one player wanted and they decide to throw a fit.
The main reason that I’m posting this is that Anet said they would be punishing, and possibly banning, flagrant offenders. I usually give ppl the benefit of the doubt if they d/c, but I have seen several people in the last week announce on mapchat that they are going to afk at spawn before doing just that.
In such cases, I don’t see how there can be any confusion as to their intentions, and would like to see such people banned or at least be temporarily suspended from ranked sPvP. Even when I’m on the opposing team, I can’t stand people who do this because it takes all the fun and satisfaction out of a win.
Please Anet, follow through on your promise and get rid of these toxic players.
I was under the impression that going afk, rage quitting, or throwing matches on purpose would be a punishable/bannable offense, but I still see people doing it all the time. I believe that by making an example of the worst or most flagrant offenders, Anet could send a message to the rest of the sPvP community that this behavior is not ok.
Anyone else frustrated by all the quitters who give up when the other team takes the lead?
Can any staff members comment on this?
Right just had a Pvp ranked game 500-445 (defeat) Due to a player who Deliberately Tanked – how I know? simple, this ranger ran naked, left points which was ours to be capped by other team did nothing to support or assist the team, just died conveniently to allow the other team to Rally off his/her useless self.
2 confirmed people reported this player, but worst of all, my team lost Pip(s) for this? Total BS, feel bad for my team as we did well as a 4 man pug/duo and a person trying to make us lose.
More than happy to Pm people the players name and account details ingame (if they want to know)
You can run naked in this game and it’s no different than wearing armor. You will be buffed to max stats. This misconception has gotten me reported before, but it’s ignorance on the players reporting for not knowing that a character with no armor has the same “armor” stats as one with max.
No, a higher score means you contributed in specific ways, namely standing static on points for example.
You get no points for defending off point or running interference while someone else gets the Tranquility commune.
Personal score is a measure of how much you did specific things, wether or not those things actually contributed much to your team’s victory.
Terrible Idea. -1
The answer to the question is no, you can’t pas ruby with solo queue, I’ve tried, got to 8 pips, after that I had to team up, I made it to 15 pips, after that I lost I won, now I’m at 12 pips again…. There are out hungry guilds who will eat you up while soloing… and there is a meta team already… I don’t want to say it, because everybody will run that, it is so effective… and yes, this is sad, solo queue should be for solo people only! This is messed up!
and since you tried and failed its not possible?
Underwater Golem in sPvP lobby. Underwater is a mechanic in GW2. Water is anagram for rawet. Rawet is not a word. Word is 4 letters long. PvP matches are 15 minutes long. 15 minutes equal to 900 seconds. 3600 seconds in an hour. 24 hours in a day. Twenty four plus teen is 2014. 2014 + 4150000 = 4152014. 4/15/2014 = date Capricorn removed. Capricorn confirmed.

I noticed they removed the gate they had blocking the underwater golems in the PvP lobby. This mean they’re adding an underwater map? Maybe (and hopefully) bringing back the best map in the game, Raid on the Capricorn?
Is it really cheating though? You can’t blame a player for wanting the highest league. If that player then looks how he can reach the highest league in the easiest way he’ll see it’s by losing matches to bunk his MMR. Is that the fault of the player?
You can’t blame a student for wanting the highest grade. If that student then looks how they can reach the highest grade in the easiest way, they’ll see it’s by copying off the smart kid next to them. Is that the fault of the student? Is that cheating?
BLOODY WELL YES.
I know right every game I lose is clearly due to Anets matchmaking, or lag, or bad teammates, or teammates not using metal builds, or the other team is using meta builds or a disconnect, or my cat knocking over my monitor being chased by my dog who then also pulls my ethernet cable because I haven’t let him go outside in 8 hours, nothing to do with my own skill whatsoever.

Thanks very much for the early feedback. Please do continue to share your thoughts, and if you could point other players to this thread so that they can share their insights, all the better!
I’ll be around for some days before the holidays, but I wanted to take this chance to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Players will also no longer be able to revive defeated players while in combat.
Best change since launch, Much needed.
No longer will you just be able to brute force your way through groups with numbers because of your mass hard ressing, Nor will you be able to stand in arrowcart fire with no worries because you’ll get hard ressed.
Honestly it was stupid that you could res a dead player, It made being fully dead more beneficial in most cases than just being downed. You don’t lose res progress, can’t get cleaved ect.
This will make everything from 2v5 to 20v40 more possible, Good all round imo.
Oog god, there are still ppl who consider DHs OP? :>
Having a really easy time soloing in ruby so far to be honest. I guess im in the games against you
Pip gain is tied to MMR, you gain/lose more pips if the game expects you to lose or win more respectively. The only weird thing is that MMR and leagues are separate and contradictory systems that just don’t work well together.
Team Conquest is 5v5, not 1v1
- Why would you 1v1 an ele on point if you play a condition class?
- Rotate?
It’s the mechanic, not the viability
It’s a terrible, passive, trait mechanic that shouldn’t exist. You can’t justify it.
Diamond skin is broken and should be adjusted. No passive skill/trait should hardcounter whole build. It’s like ranger’s bark skin would give imunity to direct dmg when agove 90% health. Cause why not right? Bring condi and stop crying? Ofc not, that would be broken same as diamond skin.
Like I said, I’m an ele main…im usually the one on the ele side, not 1v1’ing him. The problem comes to how they synergize with another bunker/healer, druid/mesmer/ele. Basiclly it becomes impossible to kill me, or even do anything for that matter. Very little involvement of my part other than “spam all heals off CD”.
It doesnt promote healthy gameplay.
I agree with you OP. Countless times I’ve been in a match and someone says “You’re playing Thief, gg guys” This completely destroys the morale of the team before the games even begins. Although we still win some of these games and the funny thing is the person who said “gg b/c thief” usually ends up being the sorriest player on the team.
Perhaps stat-changeable gear is expensive for a reason, as it circumvents the need to have multiple copies of the same weapon with different stats… meaning more inventory space is required, meaning more gem-store sales of bag-slot expanders?
EDIT: My point being, sure I totally agree that your suggestion is directly beneficial to the playing community. It’s a nice suggestion, for us. But almost everything has a knock-on effect regarding A-net’s profits, and largely game decisions have to be viewed in this way. Is it beneficial enough to the community to compromise A-net’s expenses, and to possibly upset the “legendary” community?
(edited by Crimson Clouds.4853)
Wouldn’t this idea somewhat invalidate the idea of legendary weapons (and armour)? The idea for legendaries (aside from the aesthetic side of things) is the added bonus and convenience of stat-swapping.
Allowing ascended to do the same would seem like a kick-in-the-teeth for people who bought or crafted legendaries for this purpose.
