Made a post in LFG for Fractals

“Scale 30 swamp | Zerker | Ping gear on join”

Guy comes in, stands there doing nothing while orbs are being run. Doesn’t say or so anything, so we kick him.

Relist the run. Same guy comes in. Starts running toward Bloomhunger without saying anything, and doesn’t ping gear when asked.

Kicked again. This continues 4-5 more times, even when we try to delay relisting it (including killing Bloomhunger 4man) We’d list the run and he’d join it again right away.

Why is this clear and utter failure of the block system allowed to persist for so long?

I think anyone who asks for gear pings deserves this.

I join such lfgs to block the group leader then i leave.

Wow 4 pages on this, really this could be applied to many items on the trading post, and its always the same answer,

Its Supply and Demand

According to gw2spidy

Silk Scrap

Supply:
661876

Demand:
733908

Hence the price going up, its the same with everything when there is more demand than a supply.

I find Silk 1 of the easier lower end mats to farm, nearly every zone if not all zones you can farm it fairly easy,

The price will continue to climb providing.

A. the demand outstrips the supply
B. people wanting to buy it instead of farming it

Id be disappointed if Anet stepped in here and changed any values etc, as that would lead to a lot more issues in the long run.

depending on your goal, much more might be possible then you think

Power is only 1 of the ways you can use to buff your damage potential, and a lot of people ignore conditional (when target has conditionm/below x health) or weapons based bonusses, +5%, +10%…. even though they stack multiplicatively, also might is oftyen forgotten as an efficinet way to boost dmg for solo play.

Most builds are very viable, but most people just want 1, 2 maybe 3 main builds for pure DPS, if you look at WvW you’ll notice the variety of builds is much higher, people actually use condition builds for solo or small group play.

Not so though in PvE as the majority of people has been led to beleive zerk -meta- is the only way to play. Tis makes healing builds, boon/buff builds an unwanted stain on the set of people who are led to beleive conditions have no function (while they depend on vlulnerability, blinds, chill, stuns, dazes and weakness to stay alive.)

The difference between a zerk- meta and a speedrun group is the actual knowledge of conditions and applying them. DPS is partly gained by your build, but most is gained by efficiently supporting eachother.

OK lets tell the other 150+ players beating down on a boss to please work their conditions efficiently.
Sorry but I disagree with you.. the build diversity in GW2 is amongst the worst I have ever come across in an MMO in over 10+ yrs.
There simply is no need for Ferocity, Precision is more than enough. Healing Power sucks donkey and conditions builds are completely inefficient in PvE when Jo Bloggs the zerk warrior can make my necro conditions count for nowt.
Every class has the ability to push out a number of conditions whilst performing the tasks their actual build is meant for thus creating ineffective condi builds – simply put GW2 has inherently awful game mechanics when it comes to conditions.
The game is centred around zerk build 99% of the time, even much of the content is eered to this safe thinking to the point that bosses now have large condition invulnerability modes built into them (kicking condi builds in the face that little bit harder).
So yes I actually agree with the OP and others here.. the whole build diversity in GW2 (PvE) is a pile of Quaggan poop and needs a thorough rework by people that actually have a clue on what diversity does for an MMO…

If you like it, run it. Nobody has the place to tell you what to run and not run.

Unless its Berserker. If you run Berserker, you’re a bad person, because people with no defence die, and dead people do less damage than ones who are alive.

May I ask for what? It may work with FPS and even RTS but a 3rd Person MMO? It would be kinda neat if we get a fully working first person view only then I can imagine it being useful for GW2.

Sounds to me like two independent issues being discussed.
1. Aggregate price for silk and market velocity
2. Farming for individual mats is hard

I would argue that these issues aren’t actually related and shouldn’t be discussed as if they were.

I think the biggest issue at hand is that it takes twice as much silk (100 silk bolts vs 50 thick leather, 50 mithril ingots, and 50 elder wood planks) as the other Tier 5 mats required to make the ectoplasm refinement materials. Please explain to us why this is the case when the only source of silk is breaking down light armor drops, where you can get mithril and elder wood from mining/chopping down trees AND salvaging. It’s easier to get the other mats AND you need less of them.

If you only needed 50 bolts of silk to make the starter mat for damask it would be more balanced (though still more expensive because like I said, there are fewer ways to get silk than mithril or elder wood).

You could possibly alleviate more of the difference by making bolts of silk require 2 scraps each rather than 3.

If that’s really the issue then double the amount of leather and mithril that is needed. Problem solved as all three are now even.

Scaling issue?

I did map completion there yesterday, and I didn’t notice any problems. Make sure you’re not in an area that’s too high for your character. Also, make sure you’re not just standing there in the middle of a group of mobs, soaking up damage. Dodge, use blocks/invuls, and heal yourself.

Silk seems to be pretty well balanced. The price has been relatively stable, and provides a consistent income of gold for many people. I’m not sure why it “needs” to be changed at all. It seems to be the best off of the common mats. If anything they need to increase the leather needed from 150 up to 400. Mithril is pretty stable thanks to MFing of rare weapons, but with precursor hunt coming they may need to also increase mithril from 100 up to 200 or even 300.

It seems silk is in a good place. It is rare enough that people want to farm it, but common enough that people make money off it just by playing the game. I think the other mats are the main problem, they are not worth farming and many times people just sell them to the vendor. This indicates to me that they are the problem, not silk.

Does anyone have an actual argument as to why silk needs to be changed, other than “I don’t want to work for it, make it easier”?

I salvage everything and get the 100 I need a day to make a spool. Impatience is expensive. I can easily get 50+ ectos in a day, but look at the price on the tp. People take the time to farm the items can set the price however they want. You either pay for convenience or you go farm the product you need. That’s just how it works.

we DO NOT NEED ascended harpoons / trident / spears or legendary and yet we have them.

it would be nice to just have a breather with stats of my choice and worthy of a scholar rune.

and not some random stat that is of no use to me at all.

all about the principle !

and yes I want it ascended to complete the set !

Where is ascended aqua-breather?

I am just noticed WTF with my stats when I underwater.

Why would one group be more entitled to this event than the other, anyway?

We’re Entitled to not be griefed by having an organized group of players hijack the stated norm of FE then Steam Ogre. When trolls come in and say “oh well, you’re came too late to do Steam Ogre early, too bad”, that should be a reportable offense. The group is purposely ruining the game for the majority who expects events to be done in proper order.

We were here first. The community established the norm. Random pugs aren’t all in the same voice chat server to be warned in advance that a troll group broke the train.

Again, I will say that with the Open World PvE, you do have the right to play the game the way you want, but if that means upsetting a community, Anet needs to step in and stop it. Changing the Steam Ogre to be accessible after the FE (the way it was meant to be) is the simple change to solve all this. Or at least make the event reset upon the FE’s defeat.

Azhure’s group is not griefing.

And if Steam Ogre happening only after Fire Elemental was what ANet intended, then we wouldn’t be having this conversation right now because it wouldn’t be possible to do Steam Ogre before Fire Elemental. This is not the best solution as it destroys one step in one group’s train but leaves the step in another train alone. And neither train is more important than the other. And who got there first doesn’t matter. No one owns a map or an enemy.

The better solution is to either shorten the timer down to 5 or fewer minutes or reset the timer to doable when Fire Ele is defeated. This will allow both trains to keep going without losing any stops.

Condi will never be useful in Dungeon metas beecause of stacking issues.

Well they could fix it and it would be useful. Never say never
I think fixing condition in PvE, Build template and GvG (pvp, not player+npc vs player +npc, like it will be) are the things that I hope the most for HoT, but I probably be disappointed about those.

Azhure, congrats to you and your guild. You’re having fun, playing the game as it was designed, and making people rethink a Pavlovian response of “kill Elemental, run to Ogre”.

Some people may not like that they’ve been caught off guard by the change in pattern, but to quote the Principia: “’Tis an ill wind which blows no minds.”

I’d also like to state that many times, people have killed the FE and then run off to do the SO very quickly. Many other people don’t get there in time, and miss out on the event, even if they do get into the opening. Having the event after the FE doesn’t mean everyone gets a reward for it. That’s part of why I have a fully charged key waiting for a day when I’m in the mood to trigger the event at an odd time. Having that key meant that I walked past a large herd of people calling for someone with a key to unlock the event for them. No one did.

Azhure, you really deserve a gold star for still being this calm.

At this point, I’m pretty convinced Smooth Penguin & Co. are just trolling. Their arguments can be used to “justify” both playstyles (Really? People have to justify the way they play a game now? What, are you going to call the game police on me for turning on godmode in Skyrim and going on a rampage in Solitude? Bring it on!). Only they never once acknowledged this and are still pretending everything they say is in their favour and their favour only. Christ, our resident political whackjobs know better than that.

And to the people arguing that “this is the way things are done”: Gee, you know, I was just thinking about how being gay used to be illegal. Good times, eh? Should’ve never changed, since that’s “just the way things were”. And wasn’t that nice when being a racist moron was “the norm”? Why did we ever allow anyone to “go against that norm”?
Point being, just because a lot of people are doing something doesn’t mean it’s okay, nor that everyone must do the same, or adhere to “unwritten rules”. As long as this event can be done the way OP and their guild do it, without breaking or abusing the game’s mechanics, they are fully in the right here.
Now you can call them inconsiderate, which is your right, even though I don’t agree with that observation. What is not okay is harrassing them and claiming that what they do is “wrong” and that they’ll get reported, or trying to bully them into changing their (carefully crafted, I’m sure) schedule so things are more convenient for you. Your group of players are no more or less important than another group of players, so quit trying to make it seem so.

And Smooth Penguin, know that, if you keep calling a group of players prioritising their schedule over yours inconsiderate and wrong, I (and I’m certain many others) will not take you seriously until you admit that you are just as inconsiderate and wrong by prioritising your schedule over that of another group. You can’t use this to argue one way and “win”. By the way, your ability to win “strawman arguments”? Bwahahaha, really? Winning arguments like that usually only convinces you of your “victory”. You probably “win” these arguments because everyone else is getting sick and tired of your twisting their words, ignoring their explanations and claiming arguments as yours that can easily count for both sides but disgregarding this fact completely (as you are doing here). Getting the last word in because everyone else left to do something better with their time hardly counts as winning.

One time I was literally the only person doing the pre-events for Shadow Behemoth. I did the one at Phiney and the one at the monastery before heading over to the one at Tamin Foothills. There was one person at Tamin Foothills as I got there, but he died as I ran up to him and waypointed (and never came back) before I could get him up. No one else was there (or had been at the other ones). So, instead of immediately finishing, I just chose to kite the mobs around for a few minutes. Finally, the lone commander (who had been standing where the zerg is for quite some time) asked why SB hadn’t spawned yet. About a minute later, another person showed up at Tamin, and then I finished the pre with said person.

I’m going to be blunt. The counterplay arguments are exactly the same arguments that were being used by the event fail champ trains. They are toxic and have no place in the game. OP has directly stated multiple important points:

  • No intent to grief
  • Being considerate and announcing prior
  • Picking a time before pre start so everybody available can join

When the boss is killed, the event goes in cooldown and everybody that missed it missed it. That is the simple reality of timing. But guess what? The event respawns and they can come back later to do it, at any time, at their leisure, EXACTLY as OP did. The trains have no entitlement to determine how content in an open, dynamic MMO is played. If someone misses content, they miss is. In a macro context, is ANet griefing you because you were on vacation during a LS activation period? No. You simply missed out, and now you have a second option, paying, to get that content.

On the griiefing topic, this very subject was touched upon during the fail train fallout, and addressed. Content is meant to be played, one way or the other. If people want to wait until after, that’s completely fine, but they have to accept the consequences of that system. There is always that chance that their waiting will be for nothing as the content is available and someone is ALLOWED to play it. Just like how players are allowed to fail an event for a different outcome, and must accept that players are also allowed to succeed at that same event. There should be no harassment; the game was played, period.

And don’t go passing the buck, “blame ANet”, “blame map design”, “blame llamas”… learn the game, and take responsibility for the outcome of your actions, or lack thereof. You choose to play the way you do, but you are as special of a snowflake as everyone else who plays THE WAY THEY DO.

OP, you may have been the reason I missed Ogre yesterday. Good on you for playing. In the end, I got to see the exploit people were using to get past the shield, screenshot it, and report it. Afterward, I went out to the Silverwastes and got 28x the bags I could have gotten from Ogre without even trying. All in all, better than anticipated. Keep playing how you wish and have a nice day.

Oh noes! Someone is playing the game with their friends and uses game mechanics to make that happen! How terrible! How selfish! How cruel!

Just for those who need it spelled out, I’m being sarcastic here.

Playing the game in a way that just so happens to be “against tradition” is not selfish. They even announce it in the mapchat. And if people don’t have that open, they can’t complain when they miss the announcement. Tough luck. I was completing Blazeridge Steppes last night and kept waiting for someone to announce the Shatterer. Nobody did, so I missed it. Guess what? The world didn’t end. You can’t blame a player for using content in a way that’s perfectly fine and intended for being “selfish” because you miss out on loot or something. Nobody is denied their reward because nobody has an inherent right to said reward. Same thing could be said for starting the fire elemental preevent in the first place. If people start it right when it spawns, those who arrive a little later because “traditionally”, the fire elemental takes some time to arrive, miss out on it. It happens.

If people really get this upset about “missing out” on a single event migth want to reconsider their priorities. It’s not the moon landing. It will be up again in a bit. It might be annoying for a split second, but that’s about it.
