There is one thing I never thought about and I didn’t see anywhere (until now) when people are trying to tell why they don’t like Dragonhunter. I find it pretty interesting and I think it could put words on some of the negative feelings we have against Dragonhunter but that we didn’t even manage to explain.
What most people are expecting for specs is a new playstyle, a new way of fighting that fits into a coherent theme. In other words, it’s telling us HOW we fight.
This is exactly what the Chronomancer (and probably the Druid and others) will offer for example.
The problem with the Dragonhunter is that it doesn’t refer to a particular way of fighting things. Instead it tells us WHAT we have to fight, and the particularly crappy background tells us WHY we have to fight. But nothing really tells us HOW, like we would expect for a spec.
WHAT and WHY we fight are totally linked to the background and the story. They’re not the reasons why we choose to play one particular character. Those aspects should be left for the story only, or the background that anyone could want to create and mold for his own character.
This made me come back to the idea of Dragonhunter being a title or a faction, like a lot of people suggested. A title can totally be a background thing for our character, while a faction has importance for the lore and story development.
So basically, Dragonhunter and its background doesn’t evoke a spec that tells us how we wanna play, it tells us what kind of person we are and what are our goals in the story. And this shouldn’t be. Those are not the reasons why we choose to play a profession or a spec.
I quote the guy who gave me this idea
“I don’t understand why specializations are anything more than a fighting style. A Chronomancer is merely a mage that manipulates time, they don’t by definition have to have any particular goals or ambitions. Why does my guardian, when he chooses to specialize in combat with traps and a longbow, all of a sudden have to adopt new background and ideology that I don’t identify him with?”

Also remember that specializations are supposed to be swapped anytime we want. A spec that is highly connected to a “WHAT” and “WHY” instead of a “HOW” would mean that we can swap our character’s background, story, goals, ambitions at anytime… This is absurd.
Here again the gameplay of the Dragonhunter is not the topic of the discussion. It’s just the name and the theme that goes with it.

No it doesn’t, I would love it if it did haha
Not everyone plays for rewards or profit. It’s simple as that.
“Needing” to log in everyday burns people out and make it feel like a job instead of playing.
Changing dailies to monthlies paces the game better.
I’m glad you quoted “needing”, as it is clear at no point is there a need for doing dailies unless you want AP. And if you are an AP hunter, then GW2 will certainly feel like a job. But that’s self-imposed. I spent about an hour yesterday finishing up Ettin slayer and Ogre slayer. Did it feel like a job? You bet! But I wanted that AP, so I sucked it up and dealt with it.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
The only people I know who are swimming in Obsidian shards are people that make silverwaste kittenty. The shovel group farmers and map taxi’ers that jump from map to map looking for one at or near the end instead of actually helping a map out.
Yes, never understood this. I never encountered anyone who thought it was too confusing at low levels. I understand pacing content across levels, but this made no sense at all.
I hope one day they reconsider this. Underwater content is a wonderful part of the game (ok it needs refinement and balancing) and should never have been nerfed away in my opinion.
Anet needs more merchandise I can throw money at. T-shirts, sweatshirts, mousepads, hats, plushie charr, etc. People eat that stuff up. I’d pick up some GW2 clothes, like a Blood Legion hoodie or a Rytlok T-Shirt :p
Overuse is ruining your mouse. Don’t blame this on Guild Wars 2.
Disagree, we move to fast as it is now. Traveling should take time. Its a big world.
It not like defeat should be an inconvenience or anything, right?
We have waypoints . . . No.
that didnt stop gliders…lol
Gliders, which will only work in the map(s) with the three levels to them, requiring them as a mechanic for certain types of gameplay (and not just as a fashionable collectors item and speed boost). lulzlolrofl
No matter how fast they set the base speed, someone will always say it takes too long to run places. Some won’t be happy until they can click anything in line of sight, even across the whole map, and be there instantly.
I believe the speed is set where it is for game design reasons, making it not too sludgy to get places but also giving time to see the world. Not to mention it keeps our characters from looking like the Road Runner with pinwheels for legs.
Congrats! Your accolades will be in the mail shortly. They must be signed for by you and you alone, so please, go stand outside by your mailbox and wait there until they arrive.
wrong forum and also needs a full thread delete.
I would have reported your name the moment I saw it. I salute the person who did.

Hey guys! What’s going on in this thre—o—oh.. oh. Okay… alright.. I’ll… I’ll just leave you all to it then… sorry to interrupt. /closesdoor
OK, I cannot (nor will I speak on player feelings/thoughts regarding the attractiveness of Charr). its just not my thing, but to each their own I guess.
What I WILL speak on however are Charr, their lore and their society and how we as both players and non-Charr should not try to project our non-Charr-ness on them.
Charr are not human (obviously) and to that end do not have the same courting rituals that we do. I’m sure just as we recognize how Baboons court and mate, as humans we just don’t DO that ourselves. Our bottoms are not bright red, nor do they swell, etc. same goes for things like ostriches that perform a fairly ridiculous looking “dance” to attract mates. We see it, can recognize it for what it is, but won’t ever do it ourselves since that isn’t how we roll. We go for the nice outfits and body accentuating dress styles because that is our primary way of attracting mates, followed by bad jokes and awkward conversation. We are a highly social group with nuanced and highly varied views on life, politics, religion, etc.
Charr are not human. Charr are tribal and combative, even among themselves with small units that become like families. They are militaristic and even hand their children over to be raised by others. From a clothing aspect they tend to wear the same thing across genders as their clothes are not used to define them, or rather their gender isn’t as important as their function to the unit. From a mating standpoint I’d wager the suitability of a mate comes down to: Will this mate help make strong offspring to be proud of, can this mate be trusted, some healthy does of pheromones during “mating season”. Perhaps certain things about appearance may come into play, but the appear things might be length of tail or horns and not whether the mate looks good in a corset. “Sexy” outfits for Charr such as the one in the OP,I would think, would give most Charr a hearty laugh as they sat around in the Black Citadel while the one modeling the outfit pranced around making fun of humans and their need for such dresses. I just can’t imagine a Charr ever seriously wearing an outfit like that intentionally, nor any outfit like it.

take a break from the forums for a day.
At least they apologized, maybe next time they won’t preplan a ‘prank’ months in advance and have it written in stone, maybe next year they will actually give a crap about events going on in the world and not be so American focused.
