If a a team is missing players, the match should go into a 30s waiting period while it requests players that have joined solo to fill empty slots.
If no players are found, it should ask players if they want to keep waiting, and as long as the majority votes yes, it should keep going into 30s periods until the match is 5vs5.

If someone leaves during the match, a solo player should get a message asking them if they want to join a match in progress.
They’ll get bonus glory for volunteering.

Other races get a Phantasmal Asura summon, which in turn calls down the golem!

(edit)
That gave me an interesting idea for a Mesmer Elite:

Impersonator
Summon a phantasmal copy of your target, which can be yourself.
The copy uses the equipped weapon, utility and healing abilities and the class mechanics of the person copied, but never their elite ability. If an ability was on cooldown, the copy will start with the same cooldown on their ability.
Duration: No clue.
Numbers:: No clue, obviously not as strong as an actual player, but shouldn’t be too far behind either. Depends on duration and CD.

In short, 100Blades Phantasm

The strength of heart to face oneself has been made manifest. The persona Carighan has appeared.

A Casually Fading Game

The casual/hardcore dichotomy is a false dichotomy in modern gaming, especially in the MMO. There is no way for a major title to survive without appealing to casual players. This actually isn’t so much a problem as a feature of the gaming landscape.

The solution is open world PvE which takes casuals into consideration and dungeons with scaling difficulty. Ideally dungeons would have, perhaps, three difficulty modes that would appeal to a broad range of players both in terms of desire and skill. It’s relatively easy to meet the needs of both groups and there is no inherent need for division amongst the player base here.

They should just change WOC to where you get no boons anymore and it adds more conditions to the enemy. That won’t happen. Hell they should just scrap Mesmer all together. This is getting ridiculous… now we have tons of traits that are useless… and I mean USELESS. Blinding befuddlement… nerfed into uselessness… dazzling glamours same…IE was prolly the GS last saving grace… now… useless. Greatsword training well with the new IE bug… its useless even more so. Any traits that focus on interrupts are a joke. Mantras still have no place in a competitive game (pvp). We have almost no reason to go 30 points into any line except illusions and maybe dueling but that isn’t for the grand master traits it’s to get another trait that was further down the line like duelists discipline or something….

What does ANET leave us with? We were supposed to be the boss of keeping boons up on ourselves with either the staff or GS… now neither give us boons…
BUT BUT BUT portal! NERFED…. You have clones though NO FAIR! yeah those 12 stacks of might on my stupid clone are really gonna win this battle…. Seriously ANET when are you gonna stop screwing this class over AND FIX IT?!

There is a desire for mounts! [merged]

It’s obvious, isn’t it? The PERFECT spot for mounts in the game: The Dominion of Winds. A whole region west of Lion’s Arch kept totally separate from the rest of the world. The Tengu bird-people are the keepers of this land. THIS is the slate upon which ANet can practice land and air mounted travel and even combat without mucking up the rest of the game.

No Asura have previously been allowed in, so there are no Asuran Gates or Waypoints. Jade and Amber Moas are used as land mounts to get swiftly from place to place. Other large winged creatures capable of flight carry people even farther and faster.

No jumping puzzles exist here yet because the land hasn’t been introduced into the game yet. So they won’t be ruined by flying critters capable of transporting their riders to the top. (If any are desired, ANet can put them inside caverns.)

This is an avian creature SANCTUARY, and every birdbrain here knows it. They will NOT exit the region. (If a character aims to fly over the wall, his mount veers away with an angry screech.)

A fine place for ANet to experiment and tweak. A big battle arena if they want to do that. (But don’t forget the leisurely explorers… maybe they can opt out like the Costume Brawlers leaving the game?) I’m sure ANet can come up with some sort of story background for any events they want to have there. Different Factions of Tengu warring in the skies? Who knows. But as a walled off, intentionally isolated area, the game designers could try things and change them with no consequences to the rest of the game world.

Then MAYBE, someday, when they feel comfortable enough with how mounts and flying mounts will interact with the rest of the gaming environment, they may even open the gates and let some escape into the world.

Problem solved. (Except perhaps for the issue of OVERFLOW servers in the Dominion of Winds).

(Moderators – please do NOT merge this with the thousands of other “I want mounts!” threads. I think you’ll agree that it stands on its own as a new, different of suggestion.)

Both of out underwater weapons are extremely powerful and every single skill on both of them is useful (which is rare). If i had to chose from ALL mez weapons i’d say the trident is the most powerful.

Agreed i think they should also increase CD on all phantasms by 30 sec, have a 10 CD from deceptive evasion, distortion completely removed, blurred frenzy CD increased to 25sec, Mind Wrack set to neutral damage of 500 per illusions, IP deals 50% less damage from all shatter, pull on focus to have 200 range, Magic Bullet to stun for 0.2sec and CD increased to 60sec, Phase Retreat make it so it doesn’t make you ‘retreat’ and CD of 25sec. This should have been done months ago i don’t know why we’re even talking about this 9 months in…

How does Anet afford this?

Just wondering—they pretty much are redefining the mold of MMORPG the way they’re doing it, and with no subscription fee and consantly new events how do you think they’re making enough money? The game itself is getting cheaper, too (sales n’ such) are they just doing THAT well that I shouldn’t be concerned for the company?

Yeah, never before have I felt a game was so good that I’d be concerned they weren’t charging enough. I just don’t want this to go away, lol

Basically it’s the boil a frog principal. Paying $5, 15 times is much more easily digestible for the vast majority of us than paying $60 1 time. ANet can make more money, with a constant revenue stream from the Gem Store, than if they charged a subscription, simply because it’s so convenient, consistent and cheap.

ANet isn’t bad for this either, it’s not a zero sum situation, as if ANet wins and we lose just because they take more of our money. We profit from this model as well. Being freed from the shackles of $15/30days, regardless of personal life, time constraints or temporal interest in the game, and not feeling as though you “have to play because you paid”, or you “can’t play without dedicating 29 more days of play” is valuable, not only for our wallets but for our peace of mind. I can get more value from $20 in the gem store and a weekend off work where I actually want to, and have time to play all weekend, than I do from $15 a month, every month, regardless of what’s going on (not really regarless because the $15 made me feel like my MMO is more more important than RL sometimes.. that’s never good.

There are no mounts in GW2. People RUN everywhere (even 10 feet from one vendor to another). They climb mountains and can jump from fantastic heights. They swim at torpedo speeds.

OF COURSE they are all young and fit. They HAVE to be!

Then naturally, they die of overexertion, so there are no old folks.

Maybe the pro-mounts clique is right after all? Or are we being prepped by our computers for a future like “Logan’s Run” where nobody lives past the age of 30?

Why should I try out a Mesmer?

I was never into the whole dark magic, emo classes. They just aren’t my style. I never had a warlock in wow, I will never have a necro in this game. Too gloomy. :P

The ele was pretty fun and as mentioned above is a bit like your standard mage – on wheels. But I found the playstyle…I dunno.. clunky? I didn’t like attunement swapping very much, and I wasn’t too thrilled about the spells. It was sort of like been there, done that.

The Mesmer was something new and exciting. I’ve always loved the look of light armor so I knew I wanted a scholar class, and I loved that Mesmers could use nontraditional weapons like greatswords and pistols!

I’ve said this many times before but I feel like the Mesmer is the most complete class. There are SO many ways to effectively play a Mesmer that it sort of breaks away from everyone being that cookie cutter build. I have yet to find a wrong way to play a mesmer which is what I think ANet was intending for all the classes when they said ‘play your way’.

Also, I love the trickster aspect of the class with stealth and confuse. There’s even versatility within any spec! We can confuse, burst, daze and even become immune to all dmg depending on how we shatter.

Bottom line: it’s a powerful, versatile class, which is loads of fun to play.
Definitely try a Mesmer!

The races of GW2 -- Elves, dummies!

What do the most successful fantasy MMOs have in common? They had elves! People love elves. Remember EQ? And then WoW.

GW2 would have been better off not trying to be so original, and just stick with the races that people know and love. I’d guess that 80% of players dislike the Charr and Asura races. The Sylvari are not much better, although I suppose they are the closest you can get to an elf.

Possibly the worst thing I’ve ever read on this forum. Which is quite a feat to be honest.
