Does anyone hear that noise? It’s the sound of anet being completely out of touch with their player base.

The fact that they say they have a statistician and that they deemed the drop rate okay is absolutely proof enough.

One of the biggest complaints about the game since launch? Too much RNG. What do they do? Put desirable items behind ludicrous walls of RNG because their statistician said so.

Good job.

P.S. Where’s the gem store 3.0 revamp? We were promised it “soon” and by any definition of the word you use soon came and went.

Ok, that was a quick run across the room and here’s the answer:

Yep.

With the Maize Balm recipe making ToT bags a year-around item for those who craft it, or with the use of Vial of Maize Balm drops, pups will continue to be available for the foreseeable future. Obviously there’s Halloween 2015 to be designed, but it would be nearly a year before that would roll out, so the short answer is…

Yes.
Si.
Oui.
Ya.

2015 is in 2 monthes, I really hope you’re kidding :p

Good catch! I meant “Halloween 2015” which is a year from now. Not the whole year’s planning.

Thank you for being on top of this, Gaile.

Do you know whether the mini will still drop from the Trick or Treat bags after the event is over?

I do not know. Let me see if I can find out.

  • The miniature is extremely rare, it’s true. But the drop is random, which accounts for one person getting a pooch in a few hundred bags and someone else not getting it after opening several thousand.

Its random? Anet must have access to quantum computers.

I read through this thread to get caught up, and there seem to be a few questions that I can address:

  • The miniature is extremely rare, it’s true. But the drop is random, which accounts for one person getting a pooch in a few hundred bags and someone else not getting it after opening several thousand.
  • One of our statisticians just checked the drop rate, and there is no error in the drop rate — it truly is dropping as designed.
  • Diminishing Returns do not apply to ToT Bags. I mean, phew! I read that question and my blood ran cold, but I felt sure — and the designer confirmed — that DR is not a factor with the Trick-or-Treat bags. Open 1, open 100, the drop rate is not impacted by diminishing returns.
  • I’ve passed along your suggestions. I believe that changes are not planned or even possible for this year’s event. What happens in future events — whether Gwynefyrdd will return — is not yet on the radar. Again, your thoughts and suggestions have been shared and I know that the devs do listen to your input. But what actually takes place in 2015 and beyond is not yet established.

I also want to say that I’d love nothing more than to have Gwynefyrdd for myself. One comment here — “he swims!” and I was gone. I truly wish all of you great good luck with this goal!

Ummm…While I mostly agree with the summary here, I think the main point was completely lost.

The drop rate for this item is utterly ridiculous and needs to be fixed. We have seen this issue time and again and in the past Anet has made changes, example Lyssa recipe…

In the case of the Lyssa recipe, at least it was trade-able and players had a 2ndary way of acquiring it, in this situation there is no other way since the item is account bound.
Please either make the item trade-able or increase the drop rate.
This is not Gw1, its a completely different game, you cannot make comparisons to the mini polar bear from Winters day which I may add was ALSO TRADE-ABLE.

Thank you for the clarification. During the 7 pages of the topic, I was a little confuse about that fact…

  • One of our statisticians just checked the drop rate, and there is no error in the drop rate — it truly is dropping as designed.

So there is absolutely no special reward for this event. All what we can do is buying stuff, and some of it is coming from last year event… The new collection can just be done by buying at TP so I don’t considere the new candy mini is a reward from participating to the event. So, that being said, the only fun stuff we can get can only been obtain with non-sense RNG. It sucks, really. Do you even remember how to make content non RNG-related ? You can’t even sell it to the TP ! If somebody is not interested, or got it twice (hum…) he can’t sell it to someone who really wants it !

Yeaaaay…

Actualy, the only thing that keeps me in the game is collectioning stuff. When you announced the collection achievements, I was really excited, I thought I would have to explore the whole game to find objects, but you just screwed it up by making all the events TP related. And now you just ruin the miniature collection by distributing them via random events (llama) or with stupid in game RNG. The mini wolf would’ve been a perfect reward for completing the event… Keep going guys, it’s awesome !

First and foremost, thank you Gail for replying.
BUT
All is see in that response is basically a “kitten you” mini collectors. I’m not sure I can ever believe that drop rates are as intended. I highly doubt they would say it if it were the case. Too many other times have they said nothing was wrong with it and yet there were (final rest, globs (at one point), and several others come to mind).
If drop rate is correct, at least make them tradeable. As you can see in the thread, several people have gotten multiples, of which they can only bind one to their account. The others become useless, whereas other would love to buy them from them.

So they added something rare in the game… something -very- difficult to get.

And because you want it and haven’t gotten it yet/don’t have a high chance of getting one to complete a collection that -you- specifically care about… you want the company that you’ve been spending money on to refund you?

That’s a little like demanding a refund on your car a month after you bought it because they just released cup holders you can’t afford.

And yes, I know the analogy isn’t perfect. I suppose a better one would have had to do with a car’s paint job and them releasing a new colour.

It’s late. Sue me.

Since when does RNG = difficult?

They ruined Mini Prince Thorn because apparently 20k Candy Corn was too hard to get for people and create something 1000x worse.

What about…no?
There isn’t anything rare, ‘cause RNG doesn’t equal to Rare.
You can open one single bag in the whole event and get it.
You can open 200k bags in the whole event and don’t get it.
It’s rare? No, it’s freaking random.

I could always sell the car and purchase a new one. Un less the new car was RNG and I really want the black one. The black one is rare and there is 0.00000000000000001% chance of getting it. So I guess I will continue to buy new cars until I get the black one.

I am holding off on opening any more bags until Anet fixes the drop rate. I haven’t opened 10’s of thousands of bags like some people but I have yet to see a decent drop from the bags I have opened. Even if I believe some people are exaggerating the amount of bags they have opened I do believe the drop rate seems a little low for an account bound mini. They have increased drop rates before so I would expect to see them change this in the next few days.

If you enjoy Dry Top, then it is not boring for you.

If you think that Dry Top is boring, well surprise! It is.

What is the point of this post anyway?

One would assume the point of the post is to inform people who don’t realize it can be better..that it can be better. What’s the point of asking what’s the point about a post making perfectly good points?

Because it’s Halloween of course Vayne.

We will return to Dry Top shortly.

And of course, any activity benefits from coordination.

I have been seeing a lot of people complain about how Dry Top isn’t good content because it is just a mindless farm. But people aren’t seeing the depth to it. I spend a lot of time in dry top, and most of the time I am doing just a random map that is unorganized where I normally am getting a T4 sandstorm. And doing Dry Top as an unorganized group IS a mindless farm.

But, the depth of the content comes from trying to get t6. You can join an unorganized map and get t4, but if you want the maximum rewards and profit, you are meant to do Dry Top in an organized map that is trying to get T6. I just got done with a T6 run and I really got to see how the map was designed to be played. 1 team at each area of the map, all efficiently completing events simultaneously while communicating on teamspeak. It felt like I was in a raid.

That is how Dry Top was meant to be played, but players just don’t see that. If you are a new player going to Dry Top, you will just see the mindless zergs and not know anything beyond that. There is nothing telling you to join an organized group. And when people just think that the unorganized run is all there is to do, they start complaining about how Anet is making bad content, when that really just isn’t true.

I urge people to join a guild on an organized run and see if you don’t find it way more fun.

9 Accounts, Manually Controlled, Ok, lets do some Bearbow math.

It’ll take you ~1 second to move between each client
1 second to initiate a command (assuming you only want 9 characters to do 1 skill and then auto attack)
Thats 18 seconds for 1 action across 9 accounts with 0 movement, so 3.3 (repeating of course) actions per minute per account.

Technically speaking, you could pull off a 3 Rapid Fires on your Bearbows per account per minute with 6 seconds to spare between switches. A normal Bearbow can do 7.5 Rapid Fires per minute, and throw in 2 Barrages (but that requires targeting, something you don’t have time to do), upping damage to equal roughly 9 Rapid Fires.

Your 9 Bearbows are roughly equal to 3 real Bearbows. It seems if you wanted to be effective, you should be multiboxing only 3 accounts rather than 9, if my Bearbow math is correct.

That is unless you are botting, or have keys bound to multiple clients, either way, that’s gonna fetch a ban…like it did

Welcome to capitalism and the gaming market!

95% of all MMO games are just clones of pen and paper D&D. Though I suppose if you’re young and have no concept of RPG history, it might seem pretty cool. If you don’t want people to complain, perhaps you should consider encouraging game makers to stop repeating 40 year old gaming tropes.

you must be kidding? D&D? If that (original) game would have to be pitched today, the presenter would be tossed out after 10 minutes. “Too complicated, people will not understand the system”, and they would probably be right. Even WotC themselves dumb down the game since 3.5 and in the process have turned it into a travesty of itself. I sure WISH game designers would be inspired by original D&D. As for tropes – the whole fantasy genre heavily draws on myth and fairy tales and usually adds some very mediocre writing and imagination to it (yeah, please don´t cite Tolkien, compare his works to real great writers, glorified anglo-saxon myth fan fiction at best). Don´t blame D&D for that either.

I can tell you’re not part of the original D&D crowd. All of the core concepts of RPG and MMO games like, Hit points, damage types, damage resistance, hit percentages, armor, weapon types, character classes, ALL OF IT, comes from original D&D. If it were too complicated and would be chucked out, then this game wouldn’t exist (srsly, how could you say that, in light of the game you’re playing?).

Bring on the day when game designers have a truly original idea.

Well, there are only two reasons why people would stop complaining about anything:

1) It’s absolutely perfect in every way.

2) Everyone has given up on it.

Former is impossible and you don’t want the latter.

Nailed it.

That said, there is quite a bit of room for improvement, but nothing is perfect.

I think why most of the complaints originate is because everyone wants to play the game and those which are complaining genuinely on some level really like the game. The problem is that for many people there just isn’t a lot being done currently to keep people wanting to come back for more, so they complain in hopes to bring change. And I mean so in the nicest way: GW2 is a game made for everyone and on its foundation, has done a very successful job. It’s just currently a lot of people seem bored and want something fresh rather than just minor changes and alterations.

Eh. I started complaining en masse after the introduction of the megaservers. From a highly populated server I suddenly moved to the middle of the zergfarm traffic, which turned the most beautiful and interesting MMO I knew into a parody of itself. It’s still a good game, but… With the horrible population imbalance it’s lost so much of its soul, it’s sad.
I’d just like to have a way to escape to less populated maps… Not empty ones, but similar to those Piken had before MS hit.

That’s t he case with a lot of things. A lot of updates, especially the Megaserver, the trait rework, and levelling rewards, all went backwards. Not to even mention the skills and pointless changes to dungeons and the like… or way back the introduction of Ascended gear. A big reason why a lot of long time players are ticked off so much is that they’ve seen the game which they liked, keep moving backwards. We’ve all seen so much potential, but rather than meeting that potential, most of the movement is fixing things that aren’t broken.

Well I’m glad you are happy with the game. That being said how long have you played the game actively? My point is the game is amazing for new players because that’s who they cater to. Being that MMO’s are long term games gw2 does very little to keep veterans engaged. So please do not discredit the opinions from others specially from those who have been around prob much longer than you and have suggested fixes that you enjoy so much today.

Your points are well taken…to some extent. You do, however, leap to a conclusion that OP is a new player and that is the reason for his satisfaction. I have no idea how long he has played…but I have played since the very first beta weekend continually and share his satisfaction. This is not meant to say that your opinions and suggestions are not valid or needed…just that you leap to some unwarranted assumptions that color your post.
