…introducing new characters, and then killing them off instantly…

The time players spend with Lionguard Apatia is brief, but it’s clear from the existence of this thread that people still did manage to care about these characters. We did not silently sit by as this plot was removed (whether or not the removal was intentional).

The loss of Apatia or the others is a part of the lives and stories of our characters. It is one of if not the only mistake our characters are able to make in the story. Without ever making mistakes, our characters are flat and not believable.

That’s not even mentioning that the fact that everything is out of order, and that the removal of Greatest Fear is a big part of that. That makes the story incomprehensible as well as not believable.

The plot of chapters 7 and 8 remain mixed up. You get references to events that no longer happened, reunions with people you haven’t met, revelations to mysteries that haven’t been introduced.

This NEEDS to be fixed.

I can’t imagine how they could not want to fix this.

The plot of chapters 7 and 8 remain mixed up. You get references to events that no long happened, reunions with people you haven’t met, revelations to mysteries that haven’t been introduced.

It’s a mess. Worse, it’s obvious when you play these chapters. And yet this thread is a month old and nothing has happened.

Clearly it was okay to alter the plot without confirming it still made sense. Clearly it’s not a high priority fix, if it’s even on the list of things to fix.

Conclusion: The plot just doesn’t matter much.

Okay, so maybe I can imagine how they could not want to fix this, but I can’t bring myself to think this is really where we are with the game now.

Hey there, dear communications team, any stick for us to gnaw on?

I really feel like this thread is a prime example of how saying even just a little would temper our expectations. If we were told “Greatest Fear isn’t coming back because it was too sad/because we had to mirror China/because it was too confusing(lol)” then we’d be upset but eventually we’d put on our sunglasses and “deal with it” I guess.

If you’re going for some kind of Tarantino-style “we meet again” and then later “nice to meet you” time-twisted storytelling, let us know that (hey, I love his movies after all)! Right now the story doesn’t make it clear that that’s your intention though, and it’s really confusing…

But right now, everyone in this thread is speculating and guessing and hoping that this is on your radar, that you are aware of it, and that the Greatest Fear removal is one of the “Plot holes and story inconsistencies that may have been introduced with story realignment” you mentioned here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Changes-Coming-to-the-NPE/first

If your thinking is that “it is obvious” whether or not this is included in that, then please humor us by letting us know which, because we can’t tell anymore.

And if you’re not sure what to do about it, let us know that it’s a really tough issue for you guys and that you’re not sure how best to proceed. I have to say that I think the suggestions other users in this thread have been excellent ideas though and might be a great place to start. I’m a fan of adding as many Level 80 chapters as you need to the end of the story myself. It shows that the game doesn’t end at level 80, rather that level 80 is just the beginning of your character’s epic struggle and journey.

I really love Guild Wars 2. I said it at the start of this thread and have maintained faith and loyalty to you guys throughout. I cannot believe as some users suggest that this is the end, but the silence makes it so disheartening and makes it harder and harder to think anything else other than that…

…please consider revising your policy of silence (in general). It does well against the “omg broken promises” crowd (which could also be solved by a simple blanket disclaimer) but does more harm than good toward reasonable fans like the ones in this thread.

Thank you,
A concerned fan

I think this is the result of players complaining that ANet has a habbit of introducing new characters, and then killing them off instantly, before we’ve even had time to forge an emotional bond that truly forces us to morn their loss. But erasing characters, deleting memorises, and stealing adventures, is not the solution to this problem. Rework it if you must, change, lengthen, or even add new instances, to forge that connection that they have been lacking, to right whatever is wrong with them; but you should NEVER trash permanant story content, as if it were yesterdays fodder to be fed to the furnace, especially not when it drives so much of the storyline and character development, when it touches so man players. You have made a critical mistake, so please, at least converse with us on this issue.

Ooh, I love picture #4! I don’t recall seeing the Mad King burst through the Lion Statue that year. Musta been at work. All I remember is the wreckage.

Make sure you show picture #3 to King Thorn… you appear to be as big as those two are, so I’m sure he’d consider you as a replacement for his disappointment of a son.

The Dangers of Expansion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: lordhelmos.7623

I like all people would like to see an expansion to the world of Guildwars 2, however the game model is so much different than anything that came before it.

Guildwars 2 works off of dynamic events -to the point where the event system has completely overtaken traditional leveling. In order for events to work, they require people. If zones were to die off due to population migration to new content, some events might be impossible to complete.

I think that this is why the game pushed for living story instead of traditional expansions. I think that the addition of huge new land masses and especially instanced content, can actually do a large amount of damage to the game.

Living story was an attempt to keep the game world interesting without splitting the playerbase too thinly over so much content that existing events and world areas completely break. Living story was created to prevent tequatl from becoming impossible, to prevent the Shatterer from never dropping down because no one is doing the meta event, etc.

I think the real challenge of Guildwars 2 is “expanding” the game without completely murdering the sensitive web of events that currently exists or killing player leveling zones.

To me, this is truthfully why we have seen no major expansions and instead get rotating temporary events for existing zones that decrease in popularity. This keeps the game world active and healthy. I can’t think of any other game where you could go into the darkest corner of any map and still find a name tag.

I think as a playerbase, instead of harping on why the game can’t traditionally expand, we should offer some constructive feedback on how to expand Guildwars 2 without the game killing itself.

Feel free to post your ideas!

DR for bags would be terrible, even by Anet’s standards, why punish those that are already getting nerve and muscle damage from clicking in place of hours?

Not that it matters, you can’t DR that which gets no loot, anyway.

I mean this in all seriousness: Get help. Stop playing the game. Talk to somebody. What you are doing is not normal, adult behavior, and I don’t mean that as an insult, I mean it as an alarm. If you are prone to depression and obsessive behavior, this is not the place for you to be, and you should be getting more sleep. I wish you all the best.

Good advice actually.

If you want to throw away $300, do it on something that you are going to enjoy.

If you are that unhappy with the reward (which I am vocal about not likely as well) buying gems is about the last thing you should have done. Buying gems shows you support the game as is.

Two Traits-related items:

1) Add a discounted ‘trait trainer’ to your home instance (at least half-cost for Master/GM traits), for 1200 Gems. Gem Store only.

2) Item to unlock all Traits (must be L80 to use, can re-use the Trait Reset icon). Cost of 800-1000 Gems per character. Added to BLC as Rare item as well.

3) unrelated to traits, but a long-standing concern: Drop the cost of Upgrade Extractor by 25-30%, even if for a trail period, and see if that helps sales.

I think there should be a ‘Mini Me’. It’ll be your model (with armor), with your weapons and back piece.

i like this idea, but make it so you can choose 1 of your other characters as well, so i could be going around on my ranger with my current character or else switch it to my mesmer as my mini.

You can get the Old Pillowcase for under 5 silver on the TP. That doesn’t mean the mini shouldn’t be somewhat more obtainable but please don’t miss out on the collection because you were waiting for the Pillowcase to drop.

A kind person at the Pink Day event gave me one and I had the whole collection done a few minutes later thanks to having the various consumables already on hand (or craftable with my Chef). That gift was when I realized it was a) tradeable and b) selling as cheaply as you’d expect some old cloth scrap to go for at a thrift shop

Opened more tot bags today, still no Gwyn haven’t even seen a Zuzu or that thing you need to start the collection. From all the tot bags I’ve opened this Halloween I’ve gotten nothing special so I dread the Gwyn drop rate even more.

Having a Mini Liadri you can take pride in.
This is just luck, tons and tons of luck.

I agree. With Liadri you had to do something and no matter what, RNG played no role at all. Pattern was always the same, time stayed the same – You name it.

No matter how easy you paint Liadri to be, THAT was the right definition of gating content. Not hiding it behind a freaking sub-precoursor percentage.

Well the game has been out for two years now, they have always favored a heavy RNG based system for most of the “endgame” rewards, so it really is nothing new to me, it would be like starting to play Wildstar or any othe challenging raid based mmo and complaining not being able to finish the raids because they are too hard.

Its just the direction some games take for their endgame, and in this case yes i would rather have had my mini for 1000 Cobs, sure, but the point is if you put in the work you are pretty much guaranteed to get it over a long period of time/effort, while some people get really lucky and get it very quickly.

I’m fine with this system, but coming clean on the drop rates of items, the diminishing return systems and the way MF works and what it actually affects would make it more comprehensive and allow us to come up with more accurate strategies to get said rewards.

#RNGWars2

What do festival rewards have to do with endgame and what is the similarity between complaining about hard content in another game and complaining about RNG in this one?

I don’t expect to ever see Gwynefyrdd…I just want the endless Bat tonic. I spent ALL day in the Labyrinth every day this weekend and have opened 500-1500 bags every day since release and I got a Mini Zuzu, recipe for the bat tonic and two food recipes. My total ToT bags farmed & opened is about 5300 so far. I’ve put off doing dungeons for this two week period in order to farm my own bags because I would like the mini and endless bat tonic, but at this rate I don’t see it happening. I’ve at least made the recipe for the gift of souls thanks to what I’ve gotten from the bags and even if I can’t find my own endless bat tonic I can farm the gold to buy one of those….the mini however is just stupid that it is account bound AND rare.

Another question is, why the heck is this minipet accountbound… so unlucky people will open 1million bags and still not get it, while others may have useless seconds.

Its account bound? That really sucks. If people are opening thousands and not getting it, how the kitten are normal casual people supposed to get it?

It’s not for casuals. It’s for people who are willing to spend hours every day grinding in the labyrinth or who are willing to buy possibly a million ToT bags. Having Gwynefyrdd is not a sign of being a casual. It’s a sign that you worked your kitten off or spent a kitten ton of money. I’ve spent ages in the labyrinth and opened I don’t even know how many bags. If i get it, i want to be one of the few. Sorry, casuals, but sometimes there are things that you don’t get to have.

If the minipet was to be found for certain after opening 1million bags I would agree with you. But since this is just based on random it has nothing to do with casual or working your but off… one of your so called casuasl can receive it in the first ToT bag he ever opens while someone else can farm 2million bags and still not get it… this is just random bullkitten.
At least if it would not be accountbound there would be one or two on the auction house which would also cost a kitten ton of money since the droprate is so low and everyone could decide for himself to farm the money and not rely on luck or hope the bags will hear your prayers.

Opened a couple thousand bags over the weekend…. no Gwynefrydd. So sad.

On the other hand, I had enough currency to buy all the other minis, the pail, and the hexed outfit.

I’m waving between buying more pails (easy 20 slot bag) or selling the cobs (since I get enough corn for 2 or 3 per farming run). Choices, choices…

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

The suggestion was to allow us to use outfits with armor helmets, not armors with outfit helmets[…]

This particular suggestion asks for making them hats that work in a similar way to GW1’s hats:

  • In one hand we have the armor pieces
  • In the other hand we have ‘hat’ and ‘outfit’.

The hat covers the head if active.
The outfit covers the body if active.
If either isn’t active, the armor underneath is shown, which is helm for the hat, and the rest of th armor for the outfit.

So players would be able to do all four possible combinations:

  • Helm with armor.
  • Hat with outfit
  • Hat with armor.
  • Helm with outfit

So, mostly 3 things would be added from the player’s point of view:
- Hat slot.
- Hat wardrobe with a list of existing skins, plus any new hats added.
- Hat checkbox to hide the hat.

The suggestion was to allow us to use outfits with armor helmets, not armors with outfit helmets, although if they took the outfit helmets (which are clearly already separate from the rest of the outfit, otherwise we wouldn’t be able to toggle them on/off) and made them available as helmet skins, I wouldn’t be unhappy either.

For example, I know that many players are really fond of the straw hat and would love to be able to wear that with their combat clothes (for female AND male characters).
