for the billionth thread, it would get in the way of gameplay.

the easiest way to know your enemy before you even engage is looking at what he’s wearing, and what he’s holding. remove that, and suddenly you can’t tell a guardian from an ele, and things get pretty rough when you mistake one for the other. by the time the enemy is using the skills and you realize your mistake, it’s too late.

TL;DR: allowing all classes to wear all armor types would ruin visual fidelity.

I talked about this in my own thread and Ill repeat it here as well.

“I understand the concern for confusion when determining what you are up against but I feel that clothing is not the only defining factor. I don’t think it would matter if any light armors wore heavy armor because you can see their spell effects and instantly tell oh that’s a necro (dark spell effects.) or elementalist (bright multicolorful rainbows) or a mesmer (BIG PURPLE EFFECTS). Nor do I think it matters if a ranger uses heavy armor or a warrior uses cloth. If you see that you are getting hailed by arrows you know a ranger is after you, and if you see someone come flying/spinning at you with a sword you know it’s a warrior. "

TL:DR: Character skills and special effects define professions more than armor.

I was thinking the same thing Bruno.

However, a viable solution much as shinjin said of ‘costume’ slot is that you could wear it around cities and environment, but maybe just have it locked for wvw and spvp

I think everyone would enjoy being able to wear whatever they want in the game. I would propose a “costume” slot or something similar. It would be awesome, for example, if a light armor profession could rock the heavy armor but not get the benefits of the armor level.

I’d say Profession-Specific armour rather than transmuting different armour types, if you want to make each Profession look unique.

I’m suprised to see that people aren’t able to transmute from light to medium or vice-versa.

Personally, I’m playing a hunter and each pants that I can find is exactly the same model.

It would be great if you can transmute the looks of gears from medium to light or heavy so that not every rangers, thieves, and engineer have the same exact looks.

i really hope this doesnt go to the realm of asuran mankini’s and bikini’s its an unsettling thought.

Hey if my male Asura wants to fight dragons in a speedo that’s my choice!

Absolutely! And that what I pointed out.

I dont understand why some people complaining about my request really. If they dont want more sexy outfits/armors/piercing/…. they just have to not use them.

Adding those tho can only have positive points:

1) Bring more players to the game = more money to the company
2) More contents
3) More personalisation, to compensate some lack in character costumization

And one good argument is that its very easy to implement, just make new skins for town clothes… maybe add a clothe merchant in some city where you can buy it with ingame money. Thoses clothes can reflect the city mentality of it.

If you go to bronx, New-York and in california people dont wear the exact same thing. This can easilly be reflected in this game by adding such vendors npc.

Ex.: If the town is near a beach, vendor may sell men and female bikini, but if the town is in desert, vendor can sell Maroc like clothe style…

that would only matter if every single enemy clubs you on the head

That really isn’t my point. If anything hits you, you’ll be moving slowly. If you get hit with a flame blast, you’ll start running slower. If you get hit with an arrow, even more so.

In most cases.

Personally, I’d start running even faster, and possibly crying.

Dear god yes, +1 to OP. Medium armor is all the same thing and its annoying as hell that I can’t play a medium armor class and look good. A lot of the light armors don’t cut it either. They either look ridiculously cumbersome for ‘light’ armor, or they’re too… (Masquerade and Feathered chest, I’m looking at you).

Also, its amusing that people are in this thread blatantly saying “No, I’m happy with the armors so I don’t want ANet to add any to make you happy as well.” Wow… lol.

I would be more enjoyable to have some sexy outfits and armors for female character.

.. or male. I want my alt as revealing and sexy as possible, to MESMERize the enemies ^^ The armor I could find so far is rather boring, and no male dungeon or cultural armor is revealing enough. Why can’t we have Age of Conan barbarian style sets? ;/

I would really like a iphone app where i can see my characters Inventory, Equipment (Weapons and Armor) and the characters’ Level, Stats and Skills. Every time you connect to the internet it would refresh. And if your not connected there would be an offline mode where you could see the most recently refresh version. I would love this so i could brag to my friends about my character! And it would make for a great community feature! Other ideas would include being able to swap gear from the phone but that isent completely necesary. I would really enjoy this so please put some thought into it! (And if you are going to make it please make it free!)

Customization and Inventory space

Taerik.3405

I love the options for stat customization available in PvE, however, some things need to change.

We need the ability to change the prefix (the inscription). We had this ability in GW1, why we dont have it in GW2 I dont know. It takes up inventory space having to recollect a piece of gear.

What I suggest is making level 80 exotic gear work like a system of unlocks once you get your first exotic piece. There are three things you can change, for a small fee of a few silvers to reset.

The armor skin
The prefix
The rune

You have to unlock each piece of gear seperatly, for instance, if I put a rune of the thief and a rune of the mesmer on my chest piece, I can now change between those two runes on my chest piece for a reset fee, however I dont have those runes unlocked for my legs. This would be specific to the gear piece (each armor skin)

Same for the armor skin, and the prefix

This wouldnt adversly affect rune prices, your still required to buy it for each skin you unlock, if anything you would rise the rune price for completionists like myself who would want to unlock all runes/prefixes for all skins.

This would also add another needed gold sink to the game

This would also greatly save on inventory space for everyone

This is needed change for classes (such as warrior) who run different builds in different situations, for example

If I play greatsword, I run full berserker
If I play in dungeons, I run hammer, using knights to be tanky
If I play dps in dungeons, I run sword bleeds, needing a mix of carrion and rampager

Along with this change, the ability to save gear setups (much like in GW1) should come with it. Anytime you regear, you pay a reset fee.

Another greatly needed change is the dungeon tokens need to be made into an account currency

edit for clarification

As an avid fan of player housing (and associated crafter professions) I can only agree that I’m in eager anticipation, though hoping it will be implemented in an adequate manner (as mentioned previously in this thread and elaborated on below).

Instanced housing? Building in open world? Instanced Neighbourhoods!

As “put houses into the open world” vs “instanced housing” goes, there could be the middle ground of instanced neighbourhoods, which show the local flair and flavour in a condensed manner. (I think LotRO had something like this)

They’d be instanced small zones with a number of open housing lots where you can place the desired house of course choice, and maybe even decorate the exterior and garden. This way, one can visibly be neighbours with your friends or guildmates, without the problem of having to find space in the open world for every character on a server.

Possible additional options could be to have general neighbourhoods (which people can freely move into when there are free lots, whenever free spaces fall below a certain threshold, new ones are automatically generated) as well as private neighbourhoods. The latter might take a hefty fee to create, but in exchange be exclusive to a guild or on invitation of a current resident (letting you choose on creation which of the two you want).

For convenience, such neighbourhoods could also have the basic NPCs: Bank, TP, General Goods Vendor, maybe even a crafting area or for private guild zones the guild vendors.

For the actual house (interior) itself, I’d also like to point at Everquest II, where it is simply amazing, for the following reasons:

  • you can place a large number of house items (depending on house size, ranging from 100 in new player inn rooms to >1000 for guild halls)
  • these items have a very high freedom for placement: a very fine grid, so location can be chosen accurately; movement in all three dimension, rotation and even scaling
  • there is a crafting profession solely for making furniture, with an available selection spanning hundreds of decorative items of various styles (including cultural styles of non-playable races)
  • between quest souvenirs, lore books, crafted furniture and NPC purchased furniture, there are probably thousands of different house items to customize your humble abode with (of course, those accumulated over years of content updates, which is perfectly fine, no need to have everything right away)

A short reminder why sophisticated, rather than haphazard player housing is a good idea:

It has a strong appeal to players of the socializer type and is an additional, alternative yet lasting way for players to enjoy the game (those who like this aspect, that is).
Socializers are probably the most loyal and dedicated group and have a general positive influence on player numbers.
Decorating (and bragging with) a house also is a great pursuit through the elder game (commonly known as endgame). After reaching level 80, maxing all these crafting professions, knowing all dungeons and dynamic events… being able to hunt down trophies and neatly displaying them in your luxurious home adds a wholly new layer of elder game pursuits.
Some people even don’t get tired of redecorating every other week. (/me whistles innocently)

TL;DR I like player housing a lot. I hope there will be lots of furniture (and souvenirs) as well as means for detailed, custom placement of house items to make housing fans like me happy.

Personally, I would just be happy if our home area was actually a home. The “home” instance has nothing related to our characters at all, it feels! Even if there were just a few empty houses scattered about within each environ, where, at some point in the story, the player could choose one to officially live in – and then have various upgrades happen to it during the course of the game, as they had said would happen in the home areas – that would be lovely.

TL;DR I don’t need some full housing but I wish our home instance actually had some kind of home.

I really hope it is instanced. The game world is incredibly immersive, so I’d hate to have to see the eyesore of player houses at every turn. I’d rather see player housing tied in with our character’s home instance. Then if we want to invite people to come and visit, we can – without affecting other players in any way, shape or form.

Yea, you know I really do see pluses and minuses on both sides.

Even if it is instanced, I don’t think i would want it to be incorporated into our home instance, as this would make a lot of the elements of housing very restrictive, such as what type of house, where you want it, etc, etc.

They can still make weapons with special abilities on them, without changing the current system.
What stops them from making a sword, in the current weapon system, where for example the number three skill for a warrior has a flaming swipe instead of the current cut legs skill? What they have to do though is to make 8 different new number 3 skills for that sword, one for each class..

I personally liked how RIFT handled the ui. I only played for a few months and don’t recall there being 3rd party addons. However, the default up was completely customizable in that anything could be resized or moved or attached or detached to other components or frames. This was a fantastic method of control, and could allow ArenaNet to keep the beautiful art assets but allow some freedom to adjust to individual play styles.

I would personally love my target info in the bottom center of my screen, where currently my own vitals are displayed, but to each their own.

I understand trying to be different, but sometimes limiting your audience’s options (just because someone else gave them too many) isn’t the answer. It seems like over-kill if they won’t let us move around the UI.

Ah, the old Guild Wars! How good it is that it does not have re-spawn! I though that it had been a great progress made by A.net. nevertheless, now I see that the old instant re-spawning system comes back as soon as Guild Wars becomes a permanent world and it is even worst than with other MMORPGs.

My view about this -I have commented somewhere else- is how clumsy does it look that creatures or foes in the environment are linked to a point in the ground to attack by-passers. In GW 1 creatures an foes seem more alive roaming everywhere alone or in groups. I have suggested also in other MMOs forums that- re-spawning should happen unnoticed or in a more natural manner. It is particularly weird in a living breathing world where Dynamic Events have substituted the old missions system that the “anchored” to the ground creatures and spontaneous generation of creatures is still at work. If creatures and other mobs had a behavior like roaming around the land -either individually or in groups- it should be also much more easy to design a natural re-spawning system. Think that a living world is alive not just because the big events but in every detail.

Focksbot.

Most of the time I was taking picture. It was a great fun taking pictures in dangerous place and in combat. There are some quiet places to enjoy landscape too. Even in a place densely populated with mobs, there are corners that won’t aggro mobs.

Running out from piles of mobs and catapults into Dungeon Arah is the same exciting from running into it. However, after you have succeeded once, you got an WP. It’s your choice whether you want to use WP to go in and out. Other people who never experienced the excitement to run in have all their rights to enjoy the process. I died multiple times. Multiple.

Like you said, sometimes I just didn’t want to do the killing to win renown hearts, and then I chose to run and gather things or do other interactive tasks, running with piles of mobs following after me. Some missions are tough some are repetitively boring while still some allow you to do it at your own pace without mobs bothering you. I think we can actually choose which mission to take.

It also happens very often that there is a champion or a couple of veterans that will respawn at the starting point of a puzzle or at the destination of a puzzle or just at any point in the middle; however, it also happens from time to time that there is hidden another route without the need to confront the champion. Otherwise, you can also shout for help. That is the fun part.

I think Anet does a good job to let us choose our playing style, like in Personal Story, We can always choose to act smart or act brave. It’s pretty much the same in PvE.

When the Dynamic Events take place, the mobs swarm in to the center of the event from the outskirts. They are already creating the immersion and animation. If there are another group innocently stay fixed near their respawn point so that we have to respawn them farther and farther, this will ruin the tempo of the attacking waves and ruin the fun of other people.

All that I asked, as LordAargadon and Nurvus said, is to add some animation or process so that their spawning won’t be “visually / graphically” abrupt to the eyes.

This is how I see it.
