Can we have an option to auto cast AoE Effects at your current target?

What about water skills, where I need to target my friends?
Click on your friends?
What about lightning’s stun field, where I am usually aiming to hit a group at a certain location?
What about when I want to drop firefield at my feet so people can use finisher’s on it to get AoE might but at a long range?
What about in WvW where I will often cast meteorshower in a central location to scare/kill people on a wall?
What about when I cast AoE fields at more then one foe? EX: Lavafont on a boss and meteor shower on many weak foes?
As I have said multiple times:
1) This would be an OPTION
2) Using this option would allow you to right click on a skill to bring up the old ground target method.

And again, 99% of the time you are centering it on an enemy to begin with, so why add an extra level of unnecessary busywork?

Exactly. All other skills you can manipulate the camera and use them at the same time. All other skills you can run about and use at the same time.
Ground Targeting skills force you to stand still and not move the camera to do something you’ll do 99% of the time anyway. How often do you really not just hit someone directly with them? And thats why you could make Right Click do the target formation for those issues.
Not only will it help people who find this frustrating, I can imagine it would make 50% of the game playable to people with limited hand movement or only one hand or other disabilities.
I must admit that I also find it quite annoying to have to “complete” the WvW maps in Order to get 100% world completion – mostly because I can not do this “on my own time”, as there is simply no way I could get all those POI etc. without a large group, especially when our Server is losing (Gandara player here).
I do not mind being encouraged to to some WvW content (heck, I actually enjoy it) – but being forced to wait with completing an achievement that I perceive as PvE based because of PvP-matters is not particularly enjoyable.
Arxen. Its really not that I am being lazy or a coward. If so I would not have started to progress at 100%. The I would not spend all time making EVERYTHING on the map in all zones in the game. And as I said. I understand that WvW can be fun for the people getting involved there. But it is not for everyone. And with that, I really think it should be enough to clear out one zone, not 3 that looks the same + EB. And I know that I get rewarded, if it wasnt like that I would never made the choise to achieve the map completion the first time.
And to swith server just to get a reward is not a winning idéa. It also makes the queing longer for you guys that enjow playing WvW. Now people like me, the ones only looking to get the map will just take place for that and not participating in what is is meant to be!
To Arxen – Really? The only think you came up with is an apple and orange quote? Anywho, I agree with the OP. There is no way that any one got he POI of keeps and towers unless you roll into WvW. If the enemy team has Keeps, it will belong to them at least if they are winning. Specially the ones near their spawn point. Either we as a team will have to break it down and capture it. So there is no way a zerg is gonna come up and break down the gate just so you can get the POI. The only option is to switch servers which has now been minimized to weekly. Next time, try and come up with a more helpful response!
I have really enjoyed playing this game and have for the last weeks been determined to make 100% in World Map Completion. And yesterday I thought I had that done when I understand that I must play WvW to get the last Pois, Vistas and Skill Points.
I do understand that you want people to try out WvW, but you also had this as a monthly achievement for October. And that was enough. I can also take it that you have to do 1 (one) of the zones. Like Far Shiverpeaks. But to run 3 zones that looks identic is just amazingly boring and makes no purpose.
The game should not depend on having to relog to find out if a Poi or Vista may be able to get due to other peoples affords. I dont like WvW a bit, and have tryed it.
There should be seperate WvW-achievements and leave the other things for itself. I feel that the game is a bit ruined now, having to play WvW. I like doing it my on way, my paste with no depending on other people.
I understand you guys that play WvW and its fine, play it! Have fun, enjoy! But its not for everyone!
Yes completely agree.
Completely agreed with this suggestion.
I agree with the OP. If someone chooses a certain title they have achieved, make it show up under their name. If someone doesn’t want any of their titles to show, they just leave it set as no title.
I agree with this. They were much more visible in GW1 and I liked that. Maybe make the title appear as part of the nameplates over player models.
I couldn’t even figure out where my title was. It took me several minutes of searching to find out it’s the grayed out word beneath your health bar when someone talks to you..
Titles mean something, I want to take pride in my title and show off my achievement… It feels so downplayed, out of the way, and hidden. Whats the point of having a title if I can’t flaunt it…
Just a selfish suggestion.
It’s particularly jarring when I enter a tavern or a house and see NPCs just standing around and all the chairs completely empty, or when I see an NPC snoring away on the floor when there’s a bed less than a foot away from them.
I didn’t have the time to read through all replies, but I will express my opinion to the point of this thread. I am fairly new to the game, just got to level 30 a day or two ago. I am also a casual, mature player, with job, family and the sort. My playing time is somewhere around 10 hours/week on normal conditions (aka most of the time).
More importantly maybe, I am not a fan of MMOs. I could never get into games like WoW for example specifically because of vertical progression. I wouldn’t mind gear grinding per se, as long as is optional. Unfortunately, it never quite really is. The direct and unavoidable consequence of that is the fact that a casual player like me never got to experience the end game properly. I never got to do any raids for example, because I couldn’t find the time to gear myself properly and be admitted in a team.
This is one of the main reasons I bought Guild Wars 2, I thought look, finally an MMO where I can actually experience the whole content even if I am a casual player. I can understand and respect the OPs point of view, but from where I am implementing a vertical progression in GW2 would almost ruin the game for me. In the end, horizontal progression is one of the things that make this game what it is, setting it apart from other MMOs.
This being said, I’ve seen many people desiring something more from end-game, so maybe ANet needs to make something up, compe up with a new, cool idea and like Azaziel states, give people something to brag about. Me, I’d be happy to roll a new toon, I am 50 hours into this game, only one character, and explored 9% of the map or something like that. As far as I am concerned, I won’t run out of things to do for a year in GW2.
Cheers everyone!
Gear progression only brings 3 things. Elitism and time wasting. Games like WoW/SWTOR/RIFT/AION so on needed such progressions cause they needed to limit people into the game for as long as possible. Even if they only logged once a week to raid.
Elitism comes from the form of Content is there only for the elite. If you aren’t gear you aren’t good you cannot come join a raid. I used to play as a tank, a very kitten good one while on it. Every raid was always the same, finish people fighting over drops or some lame guild rules were put on that left new members not wanting to raid at all. Month or so after, everyone is fully gear and kittening on more content. More content is released and those who got gear go on those who didn’t get left behind, over and over the cycle never ends. Also in most cases I would log on say alo to guild and be received with more X guild already got X gear or we are ahead to Y guild lalala. No fun just comparison just boredom.
Time wasting comes in the form of how much you grind something to even hope to get something. Let’s say I grind the hell out of AC I am not ready to do CM, all my AC gear I so cherish, is gone. Done with CM time to go to the next until I reach Arah and bore the hell out of myself. This puts a lot of weight on the players and the devs alike. Ever wondered why WoW release so much garbage content in between? Same as many other games.
3rd reason is simple, crafting gear becomes useless. You craft something and use it for a day or two before you drop something better, mats time farming them and so on goes to hell.
Before I added my bit, I had to say how refreshing it is to play a game that rewards cooperation. It is a beautiful thing, and a true first. No petty squabbling over resources, no unfair competition to get some sort of differential advantage, and it is built-in to avoid such things. I embrace this way of doing things, and absolutely love it. Compliments out of the way, I wanted to add a wish list just to get the idea going:
I know the game is new, and that this is fanciful, but it adds variety, and makes things a lot more fun for a lot of us:
Custom emotes. I know of one other game that does this, and I don’t see why Guild Wars 2 couldn’t take a page out of the book of success. (We all know the major MMO games do.)
Example (Syntax) “/e wave waves hello to everyone, and smiles.” The character would wave, and the emote would show “Arthrand waves hello to everyone, and smiles.”
Moods:
/relaxed (Normal)
/angry
/sad
/grave (might also be solemn, or serious)
/happy
/scared
These would affect the disposition of the characters.
And this is something I consider “added fluff” that is really nice, but not overwhelmingly important. After the big stuff is dealt with, these kinds of things would be welcome by a lot of RP’ers:
Having environments where characters could sit in a tavern, and be waited on while they talked about whatever could add a lot of immersion. Drinks that are sipped over x-amount of time (10-second chug-10 minute sip) which would have a waiter/waitress returning, etc. It would add a lot of ambience.
Chairs, couches, etc. That can be interacted with/realistically utilized.
Anyway, thanks for reading.
Fair Winds,
Arthrand
they already have the feature, you just have to type the full /emote. Though that added bit about how you implement the physical emote itself is genius. /e could be for adding the physical emote, while /emote would be the RP emote.
i like it.
For taverns, i think they already have plenty of taverns, but currently i do not know of any chairs that you can sit in, and that should be fun to use. While it’s great to be able to pick up a chair and swing it at someone, it would also be just as great to sit in the dam chair, and have a mug at the table that you can interact with too (or plate or whatever).
I know lots of guys make fun of and just “don’t get it” when we ask for chairs and couches to sit on, but it can really be awesome fun. The interact-able drinks/food would be soooo cool. (envisions seeing when an Asuran sits at a tavern chair, they sit on a stack of books or something)
Maybe even implement /chug to use any alcohol you are carrying in inventory??

It was previously stated by Anet that they would adjust the costs of the Commanders Compendium to deal with saturation and I’m pretty sure that time is now. Sorry for the tangent.
- – - -
I don’t pay any attention to anything a “commander” says, in WvW or out. It’s such a stupid, overly abused system. Something like this should have to be earned with a LOT of success in WvW, not just bought.
IDEA:
Make it cost Badges. Account Bound, meaning that you can’t buy them up, and make it an arbitrarily high amount to avoid Puzzle Farmers getting it without a lot of effort. I’m talking something like the amount for a Legendary Weapon (500, isn’t it?). In fact, I’d also alter those puzzles to only give 1-3 Badges, not (1-2)(1-2)(1-2). Effectively halving the rate at which people can get it from puzzles, discouraging it as a way to farm them.
AND… still include a fee. Not 100 gold, since the REAL cost is in badges, but let’s say 10 gold – a decent sum, to prove that a person wants this badly enough.
Will this stop saturation? I don’t know. It depends on the number of badges required. What it WILL do is make sure that people are required to participate in WvW in order to get Commander status.
I do see value in the status of Commander, when a competent player is using it as it was intended. It serves as a rallying point, for WvW battles or major dynamic events. But I also agree that there are many who are purchasing it solely for value as a “status symbol”.
Lastly: I support the idea of a “commander icon filter” among the various map symbol filters.

i honestly dont see why people cry over this, unless your jealous of 100G, i think people just need to get over it, it’s the same cries in LA by only .1% of the population each day, the rest are like big whoop..why do we care if some1 spent that much dosh?, “so you stare at your mini-map to let it annoy you?”….also i’d rather follow a commander on a karma train, then a nobody..and yes some people start karma trains in LA, so grow up and move on, or DONT look at your mini map anymore, it’s threads like this that should be trashed upon creation…expecially when alot more important stuff need attention.
Let me guess, you own a commander icon and wouldn’t know where to begin in WvW right? Worried your pseudo status icon will become invisible? I suggest you ‘get over it’ and start farming something else to make yourself look self important.

The commander icon should ONLY show up in WvWvW
The commander icon should ONLY be rewarded for doing something with in WvWvW.
It should not be purchasable through gold. They should refund everyone who has a commander icon currently and redesign the system.
The current system is completely asinine.

Commander should be renamed to Gold Hoarder tied to Golden title and merged with this achievement. Make the icon gold not blue and visible to owner only.
Skill in farming for gold or using credit card. That is what commander truly mean at the moment.

Commader should not be for coins but rather honor badges from WvW. That’s it.

I agree that the “commander” status has lost it’s meaning. It does give a certain accomplishment to players who spend 100g to stand out in game. In any mmorpgs, something that hardcore players want is to stand out from the rest.
100g is not a simple task to accomplish. I still feel those who acquire the commander status have made efforts to earn it and deserved to be admired. Although I also feel that it shouldn’t be titled as “commander” but other titles that are related to wealth or heroic status. What the game should had done since the beginning is to make commander title earned only by WvWvW means. Something like popularity polls or votes by WvWvW guild players. Similar to elections.

Personally, I always felt like the commander should have been tied to guild influence as a buyable upgrade in the art of war tree.
Put it as a rank 3 upgrade, unlocked as a slot in the guild interface. Have it cost a good amount (5-10k) influence, and allow guilds to only assign one commander at a time.
Thus, when you see a commander you know that at the very least they’ve either solo-guildfarmed a massive amount of inf (for a solo player) that they would have a good understanding of PvE event chains or WvW operations, or they’re in a guild that can field a few people, enough so that they would presumably have a ready supply of guildmates to command so you’d more often be joining an actual squad that’s already been formed than simply joining some random guy that managed to burn 100 gold.

I have seen so many silly trolling “commanders” in the game. They have no idea how (or intention) to lead the fights . What was the reason I began to ignore the commander thing in WvWvW all together.
The whole commander thing need to be reworked.
But until then …
Please Add an option that will let us hide commanders icon from the map and minimap.
I don’t play WvWvW and I don’t want to see the commanders crowds interfere with my PVE map having their icons overlap the important Points of Interest I am actually looking for.

To get around the idea of being a good leader/bad leader, perhaps the commander title should be voted in.
i.e. if you get 100 people to support you cause to be a commander, you get the title.

I would like to see the icon removed outside of WvW as well, or the option to not display it on my interface at a bare minimum. In the past I have spent an unnecessary amount of time struggling to find merchant/tradepost/etc icons on the maps in areas I was unfamiliar with, only to miss them because a “commander” was standing at the location and his icon was obstructing the other icons. That’s not a good design.
