Well, as someone who lives in Japan— pretending and implementing Japanese weapons, particularly ones that were NOT significantly different from their western counterparts or weren’t ever utilized despite how popular they seem to have become in American pop culture, seems off-putting.

A spear is a spear, a dagger is a dagger. You don’t need to make them something different just because they happen to be from a country you have fetishized.

If you haven’t figured out by now, a LOT of elements of this game have been designed to favor casual gameplay and ease of use over immersion and realism. It is precisely those elements that have made this game a lot more fun to play than previous MMORPGs who saw to it that players would waste a LOT of their gameplay on unrewarding menial tasks in order to be “immersive” and “realistic”.

If you want to spend fifteen minutes trekking across a massive map, praying you can get past the enemies on the road in one piece and having to try again all the way from the start when you fail to do so all in order to just get to the other side of the map….
If you want to be utterly useless for 15 minutes after you died and having to spend most of it traveling back to where you were when you died and possibly having to get through the mobs that just killed you when you were fully equipped now with no gear and trying to desperately grab it from your body or having to respawn in a weaker state directly against those enemies that just killed you….
If you want to spend a good third of your time running halfway across the zone back to the NPC who gave you a quest in order to get your reward…
— well, there are other games you can do that in. You can feel all cozy “immersed” in that world. The rest of us would like to move on from those dull, frustrating, time-killing tasks.

It may be stupid to you, but it’s not for many — in fact, I’m willing to say that the vast majority have no problem with waypoints, other than the eventual costs.

I have no want to “manage” mounts. Collect them? Sure. Show them off? Yes. “Manage” them? No.

Here’s the thing… the down leveling is based on your gear some it looks like… so if you’re going to a level 10 area in all exotics, it seems to treat you like a level 10 in exotics, which how many level 10s are equipped in exotics?

Anytime you are scaled to below level 30, there is is a strong disparity in strength, but it is not because the scaling is messed up.

A character below level 10 probably does not have a full set of armor.
A character below level 20 probably does not have a full set of jewelry.
A character below level 30 does not have a full set of skills, and likely has a sub-ideal collection of skills.

When you are level 80, you are a seasoned adventurer that has already overcome these shortfalls that novice adventurers have.

Oh, but exotic gear, and traits, you say? From level 39 onward the impact of traits shrinks as you level. Higher tiers of gear are needed to offset this, as level 80 blues scaled to level 20 are the same as level 20 blues. Major and Minor traits, better skill selection, and gear that is the best you can have for the level (until 80, “best” is a moving target) all add to your strength, but this is not the cause for the massive disparity seen when you take an 80 to a level 2 zone.

If you really want to scale appropriately to a level 2-5 area, take off your gloves, hat, shoulders, rings, accessories, amulet, back piece, and use only your weapon and heal skills—no utilities or elite. The scaling is right, what is wrong is the expectation that a fully geared adventurer is supposed to fight no better than a poorly-geared one.

I think things are fine as is and need to be left alone. At least for my ranger, I find the lower level areas still challenging.
Try using white weapons and blue armor to make it more difficult. If anything, make a hard mode like GW1.

I could see a Prismatic dye that changes with skill or special ability usage:
- Warrior: Starts black and gets brighter like hot metal as adrenaline builds up.
- Guardian: Starts bright white. When each of the virtues is recharging, it loses parts of the basic colors corresponding to a virtue. Justice would be red, courage blue and resolve green. Use justice and courage, but not resolve, and the dye looks green. Use them all, and the dye looks pitch black.
- Ranger: Linked to the health and type of your pet. Healthier pet means brighter colors. Equip a pink ma, and you get pink. Equip a pig and you get lighter pink. Your pig is knocked out, you get dark pink. Your moa gets knocked out, you get darker pink.
- Thief: Linked to steal. Color changes depending on what you’ve stolen.
- Engineer: Liked tothe toolbelt.
- Elementalist: Linked to the attunements. Fire is orange, water is blue, air is lilac and earth is brown.
- Necromancer: Linked to the Death’s Shroud health bar. A darker armor means less shroud left.
- Mesmer: Linked to the number of illusions and recharging skills.

1 per “material” type:

Natural – Prismatic Dye
Vibrant – Attunement Dye

This is an idea I had for a while. An armor set just for the Elementalist. Call it, “Prismatic Cloth” or something. It would be a very hard-to-attain set to get, but it would come with the very special ability of changing it’s colors depending on your attunement.

So say it turns Red when you’re attuned to fire,

Blue when attuned to water,

Violet when attuned to air,

and Brown when attuned to earth.

Now it wouldn’t be all one color. A really good armor with a single hue in mind has at least 3 shades. A light shade, a Medium, and a Dark.

The picture below is my Ele in Heritage gear. Notice that the trim is Malt, Most of it is Lava, and the middle of the chest is Heirloom. It’s good a good textural look going for it.

So something like this, only they change hues when you swap attunements. Is something like this doable?

The only thing I’d like to add is a feature we had in Guild Wars 1. In GW1 we could do shift-printscreen, and it would take a screen shot without the UI, but also without toggling it on and off. It was a bit faster, so it was nice to take screen shots during combat (for example).

I never liked groundtargeting. Its buggy and so many times the mobs have moved with my AOE hits the ground.
Ive played several game where the AOE happens around my current target, works just fine…or around me depending on what type of spell it is.
Ive had nothign but trouble with groundtargeting in the game ive played that had those.
Atm those games are Wow, Rift and GW2.

I agree too. It reminds me of cute Japanese games like the Legend of Zelda and many others.

Changing it might get a bit silly. Imagine if you could force your character to say “I can outrun a centaur!” at will. Now imagine what the idiots will do with that.

That said, I wonder if character personality could effect things like emotes? Consider /cheer. You could have have a brazen, chest-beating roar for the Brutal archetype. Captivating characters could let out a courtly, slightly cooing patter of applause.

I was surprised yesterday when I found an enormous temple in Mount Maelstrom, and it didn’t open into any kind of interior complex.

With the readiness the team have shown to introduce new jumping puzzles and mini-dungeons, I’d be surprised if a lot of structures weren’t placeholders for forthcoming new content.

They probably have a lot of such stuff ready-made and tucked away. Bringing it slowly into the game gives old-timers a bit of temptation to go back and explore, which is very important.

Oh, and rewards are being reworked continually! Dungeon and story rewards were mentioned for upcoming patches, but I’m sure the devs have considered chests as well.

I discovered a chest in one of the ruins I had to go into for the Halloween scavenger hunt that I did not know was there. Apparently there was a champion and a few veterans guarding it but by the time I got there the crowd was so thick they apparently already did away with them.

But it was a nice surprise. Of course the contents were paltry whites and blues that were not even useful to my character. I would love to see more “hidden treasures” around any of the ruins IF the rewards were sufficient enough to tempt me. I don’t mind having to fight a champion and vets in the way, if the rewards are worth the effort.

Unfortunately, so far I’ve not found many “treasures” to be worth the fight it took to open the chests.

There are ruins an’ graves, an’ abandoned ancient cities all over Tyria which really add to the atmosphere of the game … but allota people just run right past em an’ and that’s a shame. I would love to see the addition of secret rooms, puzzles, doorways, an’ more tucked away in some of these places to be found by explorers.

I know we have some jumping puzzles already, but they don’t hafta be jumping puzzles, and there’s also room for trapped treasure vaults, ghosts in underground dungeons where they were left to die, word puzzles, trapped floors, or more.

I know ya can get some of this in the official, large dungeons, and I’m not asking for anything more time and resource consuming than adding a new jumping puzzle would be. I’d just like to see an extra level added to all those fantastic ruins we can explore.

I’m sorry I stepped outta yer box, don’ worry, if
ya whine enough they’ll put me right back.

I support this one. It takes too much time to filter through two-thirds of the armors which are next to useless for every single profession yet show up for no reason at all. For weapons it’s even worse as an engi since I can only use 3 types.

So I grind of hours, getting loads of karma, I’m buying my karma gear and MISCLICK I buy heavy karma armor which I can’t use. I message support immediately and they can’t help me.

I’m not impressed, karma takes a massive amount of time to farm and I’m fairly certain people HAVE been helped with refunds on purchased goods.

So instead of leaving thing to chance here why even show the heavy armors and other items from vendors that you cannot use?

I suggest putting them on a different tab under the vendor.

For the record I’m not impressed that anet can’t help me.
I know people who have had issues with gold items who have been helped and yet I somehow can’t be helped…

TL;DR

Make vendors have one of the following features

All items usable by your class are on the 1st tab
All items unusable by your class on the 2nd tab

OR

Option to resell items bought from a vendor for 100% of the karma, tokens or gold (cannot be boosted through things like karma booster potions) for X minutes after the purchase. Only the character who originally purchased the equipment can return it for a refund.

OR confirmation dialogue which can be filtered in your options setting.

I see the possibility of multiple options:

1) Current default (use skill, click location)
2) Cast at mouse pointer (already an option)

However, what about these as well:
3) Cast at current target (quick press)
4) Hold skill button, point location and release skill button (can stack with cast at current target option, as you can immediately AoE an enemy target or AoE water next to you just by holding instead of pressing).

“Click on your friends?”

Because this game’s UI is really good for that.

As an option, maybe, why not. It’ll let the little zerglins who just know how to mash 1-5 start using staffs more, I guess.

I’ll just go tell my friend who lost his hand in a traffic accident he can’t go play 50% of the class / weapon combos in the game because you say he is a “Little zeglin”.

All I am asking for is a bloody option to fix an annoying UI element that will also help disabled gamers as a side effect. No-one will force you to use it.
