Commander's don't need to show their commander icon outside of WvWvW

It has been abused so much that it started to annoy me. A selective turn off feature would be nice. Those who use it with care turn it off anyway when it’s not needed. The rest just hops around with it. On our server some commanders are misleading the pack in events on purpose, so that events fail, then they spam map chat with it. Yes, that has been reported. It’s just getting out of hand, so I don’t really wanna follow a commander anymore because it might just be one of those little trolls. That kinda defeats the purpose of the sign.
I’d like to be able to turn it off / ignore it for certain players.

I don’t pay any attention to anything a “commander” says, in WvW or out. It’s such a stupid, overly abused system. Something like this should have to be earned with a LOT of success in WvW, not just bought.

That solves seeing it on the map, sure. Top marks.
But it doesn’t solve having to look at it, above some loon, posing in the middle of Lion’s Arch.
And, like I said in the OP, the ability to buy these things doesn’t mean the person’s a good leader anyway.
I find the whole thing a bit flawed.

I could get by a way for you to toggle it on/off for just yourself. Simply put it in the menu where every other icon is currently toggled on/off in the corner of your map. Then people actually using it could still use it, and people who don’t want to see it don’t have to. Sounds like a win/win.

I meant an option for me to turn it off so I do not see them, not an option for them to turn it off

Jemmi, now THAT is a great idea. I would love that ability, too, so I could totally ignore the, “Look at me!” brigade.
Sadly, it has yet to exist. Here’s hoping it will happen one day.
Well just some unique gear in general.
I remember back when I played Warhammer Online, one of the holiday events was Keg End, and they offered a gear item called the Battle Brew Backpack. I managed to find one, and 3 years later, it was still in high demand. Just having some holiday unique gear would make for some real good turn out.
While I’m at it, you should also try to spread the holiday events apart. Lion’s Arch was packed, and my computer actually slowed down as it tried to load all the players in the main square.
It was the one thing missing from the halloween event.
Rare and unique looking items are one of the main things players strive for after they have capped characters when they aren’t busy pvping, so adding new skins that are available only for a limited time helps to create more options for customization and allows players to aquire something they know there will only be a limited number of people wearing giving their characters a more unique look much like the weapon skins from the halloween event.
Also if this suggestion gets used it would be realy cool if the mad king armor got a unique look even if its something as simple as adding a mad king logo to the existing armor piece models.
The content, and the book itself, was great. Finding the content was pretty terrible.
Time limited puzzles
Time limited puzzles are always a fail if the answers can be obtained through Google. I like puzzles, but I’m not going to waste time trying to solve them when there’s about five million other Halloween things to see before the event finishes. I’m sure some people solved them honestly, but I’m doubting that was the usual experience.
Resource consuming puzzles
I appreciate that it was easy to get ridiculous stacks of candy corn, but it still felt punitive to have the candy corn meter use up a candy corn every time you whipped it out. It felt like being punished for not immediately getting the right answer (which was probably the intention) and it created a strong incentive to look up the answer rather than work it out, to avoid wasting corn on incorrect guesses.
Non-specific clues
I can see how most of the clues took you to vaguely the right area of the right zone, but I can’t for the life of me see how most of them told you the actual correct place to look. To be done properly, the clues should have directed you to an area, and then it should have been obvious once you got to that area where to go (a sign or pumpkin or whatever in the location). And I -still- don’t know how you were supposed to work out what kind of scan to use at any given spot! Were you just supposed to try them all?
Didn’t work well with groups
As it turns out you didn’t need to know exactly where to look because most of the time someone had already just spawned the ghost. As a result it meant that a lot of players missed the events / conversations that spawned the ghost. I know you were supposed to kneel in front of that Dwayna statue for one but I never did because the ghost was always up. Also some ghosts (such as the very first one) were hard to see if someone was standing on top of them and body blocking them, which was pretty much all the time.
Vanishing ghosts in dangerous areas
The fact that the ghosts despawned after a bit and had to be resummoned created an incentive to hurry through their conversation rather than actually pay attention to it. The fact that some of them were in dangerous areas where you could be attacked while talking made it even worse. I didn’t really get to take in the lore.
Buggy
Several of the ghosts were buggy, particularly the one that spawns the ghostly flames and the one in Provenic Crypt (saw him get stuck in a wall twice). Very annoying.
Summary
So yes, I liked the intent, I liked what parts of the lore I got to see, and I absolute love the reward item. But the execution itself had a number of problems that stopped it from being great.
When I was building it I thought it would be in poor taste to break people’s armor. So he brings you down to 1% health instead.
For the future, couldn’t you use the same death thingie as falling? That doesn’t cause equipment damage
The one thing I miss is him killing you!
And Rock, Paper, Scissors! Please bring those emotes back, ANEt!

I think what you did was great. It’s hilarious when he trolls you then knocks you down with laughing pumpkins over your head.
And I second that request. Bring back the other emotes please
Air guitar, Boo, rock/paper/scissors.

You could have made him randomly teleport you to a very high place. Raining people, that would be hilarious hahaha. Too late now.

Thank you, ArenaNet.
ArenaNet has done an incredible job with the Halloween events. Since Guild Wars 1 and the circles of dancing pumpkin head people in Lion’s Arch, it has become a tradition to celebrate the spooky holiday in-game.
My guildmates from Caedas and friends from other guilds all came together to help me make this Halloween video. 100% of the footage was taken while in-game:
I would like to dedicate this to my Dad, whose birthday is today! Thank you for encouraging me in my filmmaking pursuits and for showing me Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas when I was just a lad.

^ he meant bags
It would be great though if we could equip our miniatures. This way they wouldn’t be removed everytime we change zone.
Yeah, I keep forgetting to bring out the minis all the time, this would be nice for convenience. To make the mini automatically spawn when you enter an instance or go to another zone if you have one equipped.
PLEASE GIVE US a tab for minis on hero screen so we don’t need to go to the bank to switch them every time we want a new mini by our side and also that we can summon them from the tap so we don’t need to hold a space in our bag for the one we are using ! I BEG YOU !!!

Hey Anet
Portal skills from mesmer is a great skill, but, if a group use it at once, they become over powered, and yes it is a nice strategy.
My suggestion for this overpowered strategy is that, only people not in combat can use portal. That is all.
Thanks.
The whole point of the portal is to allow the mesmer & friends to end up behind you and catch you off guard. The whole point to a mesmers existence is to use it’s skills to be befuddle, confuse and generally just cause you to go “WTH Just Happened”.
I wouldn’t have cared at all if others got miscellaneous exotics and crap. What pisses me off is that something I really was looking forward to is basically an impossibility now.
The only possible way to farm the set has been nerfed. Now you must do your daily boss in labyrinth hoping while spending a crap ton on trading post to get the rest of the set. Grats to Anet for making them exotic, letting them drop too often to get em on market, then nerfing it to balance. So yet again, only the rich will prosper from this holiday.
Getting really old really fast. I don’t want everything today but for kittens sake I want the chance to work at something. As it stands, you want me to work at becoming a gold farmer. Not cool.
Another partial solution: Make neutral creatures smart enough to avoid battles.
Most real-world wildlife, including vicious predators, would tend to move away from possible danger…for example, a ferocious battle between characters and bandits raging in their midst. The noise alone would cause most animals to scatter for safety, or at least move 10-20 feet away.
If neutral creatures in GW2 behaved like this, it would reduce our chances of hitting them with auto-targeting and AoE attacks. Would also make for a more immersive experience.

Ignore mob not in combat when you are in combat might be better.
You can always click target if you really want more not-in-combat mobs to join your fight. After all, currently the auto target system is always trying to add irrelevant mobs to your fight even though there are already a few right in front of you hitting on you.
I would like to add onto this idea.. PLEASE make it so that bouncing attacks (i.e. Chain Lightning) don’t go for neutral targets, either. I’ve pulled so many accidental deer and such when trying to fight people in WvW.. and it definitely helped me lose the fight. =/
Thats on you to learn your enviroment, you gata know how to avoid linking mobs or you havn’t played enough mmos. As for OP, I would like an “option” to disable neutral mobs from tab select, would help when I’m kiting large groups ^^
And for people who WANT tab to target neutrals and have multi target attacks hit them so that they can get those wonderful fine crafting materials that they drop all the easier….
Then like I said, at least have it prioritize red-named hostiles over the yellows, so we can kill what’s trying to kill US first, THEN let it target neutrals. Sorry, but in the heat of battle, targeting acuity comes before crafting materials every time.
Also like Aliette’s idea- bouncing shots have tipped odds against me on several occasions. In fact, several good ideas here. Keep up the good input!

This would be extremely helpful when trying to rally after being downed.
To add to this: possibly be able to make tab to lowest health target be the primary function whilst downed.

I know the game will stop auto-attacking when a new target is selected, but it’s still kind of annoying when hitting Tab prioritizes critter bystanders over the horde of Flame Legion closing in on your escort target. Either keep the system from auto-targeting neutral mobs when obvious hostile enemies are in range, or have it ignore these targets altogether- if you really need to kill that deer, then you can manually click on the poor creature.
Personally, I’ve nothing against most wildlife, but my Tab key seems to think deer and boar are the TRUE forces behind the dragons or something. On the other hand, they do seem to be watching us at times… O.o
