You must be new around here, because the community was very supportive at start, but then more and more people understood that the game developers do not work on pvp at all – it was almost 2 years and we got:
3 maps
A “Leaderboard” “system”
Correct me if I am wrong, but I think that is it – nothing more was added (removing paid tournaments and splitting them in 2 does not count, it is just reusing something old).
I’ve given up on sPvP all together. It’s by far the least fun aspect of the game. If it wasn’t for the achievement points I wouldn’t play it at all. And I’m generally an avid PvP player in MMOs.
Same. Been playing since practically first week and just reached rank 54 or something about a month ago. I’m not a great player but I had good fun playing coz the actual combat was fast and fun for awhile. However I had a tragic car accident not to long ago and had to have surgery on my right hand about a month ago so I had plenty of time to be at home and play GW2. Strange thing was during the 2-3 weeks in a cast I didn’t even care for GW2 and when my hand healed sufficiently enough that I could do some pvp I played for about 1 hr before quitting and I haven’t come back since.
I think I’ve devoted enough time to a game mode that is just going nowhere – and will continue to go nowhere. Its just TOOOO obvious now – GW2 PVP can’t be saved in my opinion. It may be fun for some casual games here and there but the lack of progress, rewards, balance (basically, the lack of ANYTHING that progresses the game) is telling especially after one year.
Maybe its a good idea they just shut it down so they don’t even need to dedicate that 1% of their resources for something that is more or less universally agreed to be a failure.
Why?
It’s much harder to win in Solo Q, since these things often occur:
- Spirit Watch & Skyhammer
- 4v5 and afk
- People on your team who have no idea what they’re doing
- Fighting against teams that have R50s+, with R10 on your side
Clearly, managing to still win with that deserves more rewards.
27. I like 4v5 !! I ve never played such a wonderful game that makes you play at a huge disadvantage . What a cool challenge !

24. Once you hit rock bottom, things can only get better.
Now let us observe how GW2 proves the opposite.

12. There is lots of cool skins to customize your character.
11. The meta buids like spirit ranger and hambow are high risk high reward and require a large amount of technical skills to play at high tier.
“I’m so hard right now” – Ozie, in solo queue.
10.Pistol whip thief is very hard to use and entertaining to watch and shadow refuge is really balanced and requires surgeon like placement to be used properly.
8. New Balance Patches as promised every 5 months.

9: Hambow Warrior is new and exciting.
… I am so sick of it.
I am sick of hambow warriors.
I am sick of spirit rangers.
I am sick of decap engies.
I am sick of mm necros.
I am sick of asuras.
I am sick of standing in a circle.
But most of all I am sick of Anet’s lack of care and attention for PvP. Always talking, always discussing, always planning, always having things on the radar… but (almost) never doing anything.
These big patches better be something spectacular beacuse I am so sick of everything…
Sorry about ranting… just needed to vent somewhere.
The whole PvP is a slap in the face
Nope there is no insults. I insult the game which has no feelings, it is an inanimate object. I never abuse anyone personally, devs or players – or I try not to.
you are not the worst offender, though one neednt go beyond 1st page of your posts to find you calling anet “money grabbers”.
but my point is not so much insult (which should straight get infractions) but overall toxicity: either enjoy the game with the rest, or quit it and let the rest of the community to enjoy it. you talk about criticism. criticism is great, but after being critical you draw a bottom line and say that overall game is good and you play it, or not and you quit it. when post after post its all about how kitten this game is, and you keep doing this month after month, please, save yourself, or at least save us.
I actually love guys like you I really do. When all the people who find this game irritating due to failed balance leave.. you will be playing with your handful of friends. Like thats it. On your server there will be about 10 people lol.
Then the devs will shut down their servers because its not worth keeping active for a few people who love their game so happily and muffins hearts and rainbows but now… don’t have a game at all. Now those people will have to go to another game.
The community is full of all kinds of people. If all the people who actually care about the game and lash out because of that care and personal investment they have, left the game entirely, you will not be playing a game at all because there will be a total of like 100 people playing on their expensive servers.

So if i want daily 8 tournaments wins i need to sit and play pvp for 8 hours every day. Yep 1 win per hour aprox. Nice. Thats a full time job. And yep i must be crazy. Today i had 5 matches out of 12 where we were 4 vs 5. Yep that was fun. But im not going to talk about how often im in 4ppl teams (btw pretty often), i would like to talk about how often i meet ppl coming to tournaments to play pvp for the first time (yep pretty often too). Today i had a player in tournament (btw im rank 48) who said: hi im exploring world of pvp. In that moment i thought to myself: cool i just lost again….. aaand…..we lost again. So im not really going to talk about how broken pvp matchmaking and all that is cuz we all know how it is and im pretty sure arenanet is working on some solution, but i would be sooo happy if there was some lvl requirement to enter tournaments. Lets say lvl 20? I really think people coming from pve could really `explore world of pvp` in regular pvp and not in tournaments. That would be really cool.
The daily PvP is a massive grind for AP hunters (2-6 hours PER DAY)… but they aren’t going to do anything about it since it clearly brought in more players to farm AP for their daily which kinda pads their numbers for tPvP showing increased participation.
The thing is though, lots of people are burning out from grinding the AP and many are just thinking of quitting the game. Sure, short term you might gain some PvPers but long term the most hardcore and dedicated players (usually AP grinders) will leave the game over this.
Anet loves to manipulate their metrics with adding dailies. Noone doing story dungeons anymore? Add a daily. Noone doing events or veterans in unpopular areas? Add a daily. Noone doing JP because rewards are abysmal? Add JP daily and monthly. The list goes on and on.
Ultimately their metrics improve, but people go there for the wrong reasons. Not because they want to do the content or enjoy the content, but because it gives an AP.
I think us forums goers would like to have a word with whoever is in charge of rewards for the entire game. They need a reality check.
Too many failed politicians have changed career to gaming world.
With the introduction of ascended gear I gave up. I’ve got 8 chars, all geared in exotics and I enjoy playing all of them. Variation is the name of my game, my main pleasure is trying out different builds/gear on each alt. The investment for ascended weapons was steep, but I managed to craft two for my main. I had already given up on the laurel-locked jewelry for any alt.
There’s no way I’m putting in the effort to gear even my main in a full ascended set, much less three different sets for each character. Not even sure how long that’d take, some say 28 days for one set. So 3 months/sets per char, 8 chars, that’s two years of grinding every single day. It sounds outright insane when I type this, but there you have it. And that doesn’t even include the jewelry, now that I think about it.
But you know what? That’s ok. Most MMOs I play end up the same way. I get good, but seldom the best, gear. I’m fine with that since as long as I’m not at a disadvantage I can afford to try new goofy builds. With the advent of ascended gear that became impossible. To be honest I’m somewhat at a loss for -any- type of progression right now.
I’ve got my exotics. I’ve got my WvW ranks. I don’t do dungeons/fractals since I promised myself I never would again after the vanilla wow grind, and I stick to my promises. That also rules out legendaries due to the token requirement. I would go for achievements but, and I mean no offense, the WvW achievements are dreadful. No imagination, no thought required. Just a constantly incrementing number at the side of your screen that ticks from nothing to 100.000. That isn’t fun. At all.
I’ll still play, this isn’t a rage-I-quit post. I love WvW and I enjoy the living story evolution. Also surprisingly fond of the world bosses to be honest, despite my lack of interest in generic pve. But progression is dead for me. With all that entails.
You have to be careful, the rank 1 could be a rank 200 in WvW which makes him comparable to people on leaderboard.
So that makes him REALLY good at zerging?
you know a dumb guy will come here and say lol u nub get a team.
PvP in this game is a joke, the sooner you accept that, the better.
What kept me going was the hope that things would eventually get better. The pace on PVP updates is glacial and after getting teamed up with a level 1-5 player in an all 20+ game way too often I’m just gonna quit.
I am used to playing 1v1 in WC3 and SC2 where I am to blame for losing a game. In GW2 it is too often because of someone being afk during the first 30sec or what I mentioned above. I don’t give a kitten about premades if the matchmaking would at least be decent. Let me wait for 10 minutes if I am guaranteed to play with players of equal experience. They might be noobs and there’s the occasional low level expert but in general these things ruin it for me.
Feeling helpless because you’re just 20% of the team is too much after a while.
So here it goes,
I started off as 520. I then soloqued for 2 days in a row and went back to 60percentile. Then I decided to give this whole ladder a chance and try to do this properly.
I was fortunate enough to find a couple of people to pvp with at my timezone. Managed to go back to 510 in a couple of hours and climbed later on to 470. I logged in today and decided not to wait for my group because they are usually on later on at night.
After a couple of losses I dropped back to 90percentile.
As a gamer and thus a GW2 player I think it is immoral to have a system that forces individuals to become elitists and also punishes people like me who actually want to group with new individuals.
What am I trying to say?
1.I really do not want to create a second account so I can play with new players without the fear of being dropped like that from ladder again.
2.I really do not want to play with dummies or go into hotjoin for hours until my group comes.
Getting back to the ladder is not the problem. This might not seem at first but it is not about losing.
It is about the idea that if you want to take this apparently competitive position system seriously enough, you would have to abandon allot of players on your friend’s list due to their rank or their leaderboard positioning.
It also means that you would have to depend solely on your own “special group” in order to play the game right and thus go higher in the ladder. Personally I do not want to become this typical nerd raging kid that I have seen plenty in other MMOs just for the sake of doing this “right”, “properly” and “competitively”.
I think better ways should be implemented to make TPvP Competitive without making it too inhumane in the process.
I would like to get an official response on this.
I’m afraid of getting kicked from more groups for being “slow” when all I want to do is not exploit. Happens in every game where exploits become common place. If you don’t exploit, you get kicked or people avoid you.
Please fix the exploits so I can enjoy Fractals without feeling peer pressure to exploit.
Don’t worry, after the 20th run you’ll want to skip content, I suppose you’re still fresh.
