Hey guys! I forgot this forum existed til it was suggested to me.
I just finished completing my third GW2 cosplay- a mesmer!
I worked on it for about 7-8 months between college and work. The main materials I used are worbla and craft foam. The staff is a pvc pipe base with a wooden dowel for support, and lots of sculpted worbla.

Hope you like it
I’d rather stick to nostalgia and retain the name Lion’s Arch.
New York didn’t change its name to “Not so new anymore York” either. (<— Joke ^^)
Also there still is at least 1 giant Lion Statue in plain sight.
And although lions themselves aren’t native to Central Tyria, they are to other continents such as Elona which has seen a lot of trade with Central Tyria through the port of LA.
Lions are often used in names, emblems or other heraldry because:
" It traditionally symbolises bravery, nobility, royalty, strength, stateliness, and valour, because historically it has been regarded as the king of beasts." – Wikipedia.
However if anything it should be renamed to “Lagbourough”.

I saw Gaile in LA and I asked her who do I have to hug because the new outfits and armor skins don’t clip and even have sensitive tail flaps.
She told me it would be weird. So instead I’m making a thread here
Thank you developers and artist people who make beautiful armor for charr!
We do notice and thank you for your brave efforts in making something pretty that doesn’t clip or looks super bad on charrs!
Kudos! Kudos to everyone!
She’s crying now in Lion’s Arch Aerodrome and I don’t know why
She doesn’t want to speak with me when I want to :c
Take a look at the blueprints she’s crying near. Then remember her comments on the concrete lobster. The reason for her sorrow will become clear.
So I’m not really sure where to put these, so I figured I’d make my own thread for my art work. It’s all pen/ink and pencils… So yeah. Here we go.
1. Braedinth & Nysa – a doodle of a guildie’s mesmer and my necromancer.
2. Bellafion – My friend’s necromancer
3. Zakkit Steelmane – My charrdian
I post most of my art on Tumblr, and it can be found under the tag #leif draws or #katnaxel commissions

Although I was limited by material, being not only out of proper drawing paper, but lacking my Copic markers, I still think that this is one of the best sketches I have done of Llumin yet. In reality, her skin is a bit more tan, and her hair a bit darker and bluer in shade, but nonetheless, it should give an approximation as to what she looks like.
Llumin is a sylvari mesmer of the cycle of Dusk. Though at times naive, she is loyal, thoughtful, and adventurous, and will not back from a fight when words fail to diffuse a situation. Her mesmeric abilities are constantly-growing, and some say it is only a matter of time before she becomes one of the Grove’s finest spellcasters. She spends her spare time honing her skills, reading, and exploring. A favorite tea of hers is rose.

Eh, it’s mostly just funny. Some of ‘em stay off the rails and it makes it ridiculously fun. Over time I’ve started just giving them A Look and then laughing at them.
I’m still trying to find an excuse to bring Josh and Peter back on at the same time. I WILL find one.
While I think this is a questionable decision, I do have to commend the honest communication. Please remember that the unpleasant reaction you are likely to face here is the result of the decision to suspend the development of advertised content, and not the result of the decision to communicate honestly.
I point this out only so you don’t come to the conclusion that you should not communicate because it only upsets people.
Communication is always good, even if it communicates bad news.
That said, although I understand the decision to focus on producing more playable content (and I honestly think the decision is a good one), it’s still a bit of a hard sell to convince people that you are capable of producing gem store content and future expansion content (both of which people will, presumably, have to pay for) but are not capable of producing content that has already been advertised and that people have already paid for.
Hello Mike,
Thank you for the transparency and announcement. While this is very disappointing for me I appreciate that it was presented in such a manner and I would much rather have found out this way than have waited a year with still no weapons.
So in the manner of communication I am happy that you are informing us of the machinations behind closed doors. Please do not be discouraged by the negativity (and I can see that you aren’t), it is great for the players, community, and the life of the game that you are taking time to communicate little state of the game changes like this. So thank you.
However, that being said this is a very unfortunate piece of news. This feature was heavily marketed pre-HoT and now will not be delivered. I saw that you addressed that you do not feel HoT was partially delivered because the teams are working hard on delivering content continually. I get that. But this is still exciting content to me that was promised in the same breath as an expansion was sold and now we aren’t receiving it.
So what I say now is, I hope there is good news. LW S3 is not exciting to me and will have to be a large step up from HoT story (which I thought was wildly mediocre at the best of times) and an improvement from LW S2 (which at the throwback to GW1 moments.. Facets of Glint.. Ghostly Hero.. I truly enjoyed). I hope resources are allocated to new fun and engaging content, and I hope to hear something other than discontent and bad news soon.
Charr are even worse. Their fur would be more flammable than any sylvari.
Didn’t you know? After overthrowing the Flame Legion, the other Legions all added a special flame kittenant shampoo and conditioner treatment regime to their schedule. It’s how they all added that extra body and shiny to their fur coats.
Since the Devs are posting regularly on the Reddit forum and not everyone reads Reddit, I thought I would start a thread with Dev quotes from that forum and try to update it as needed to make the same information over here equally available. This information may be already available from other sources, but if it’s new to me or I think it’s not widely known, I’ll post it here.
Feel free to add relevant, informational posts from Reddit (or Twitter) yourself as you see them.

You should see the first round of updates that help with #1 and #3 on your list next week from our new Fractals team.
As for #2 and #4 – those are both things we agree with, and we recently formed a larger fractal team after HoT launch so we can do exactly stuff like that.
Great suggestion thread, I passed it along to the team as well.
ANet may give it to you.

Compared to the super cool art you guys all make here this is so lame in comparison!
A few weeks ago I decided to embark on my nerdiest project yet, and create the rest of the Orrian syllabary found on the wiki. After figuring out how the letters were made the rest went fairly speedy until it came to creating entire letter sets!
Everything in GREEN is what already existed on the wiki.
Everything in RED I created following the existing letters’ rules.
I hope you guys like this as much as I liked working on it!
Hi everyone! Posting my collaboration with Sammpo here called “Anet Baby”. We hope you enjoy it and have a merry Wintersday
I recently finished a guide for thieves (and everyone else) on how to solo mordremoth. Downed him several weeks ago just recently had time to finish the video. Even though its a thief guide there are several tricks other classes can do too and also the fight is included in the video (at 7minutes if you want to skip ahead) along with Dialogue Boxes that tell you exactly what to dodge and what to do.
ps: spoilers in the video.
Guide Breakdown:
1) Specializations: Critical Strikes, Deadly Arts, Daredevil
2) Utilities: Optional. Recommend Stealths and/or Condition Removal.
3) Weapons: Dagger/Dagger, Pistol/Pistol
4) Boss fight
5) Loot
- Because this fight is a mechanic fight and knowing what to dodge and not stand in etc the specializations, utilities and weapons are pretty optional so play what you enjoy. In the video I just mention what I ran and why.
Full tips, tricks, hints, guide in the video.
Brief Tip List:
1) Stealth is your friend. The adds he spawns (illusions of your friends) will run away when stealthed so you can literally have them run back and forth not attacking you while you range/stealth them lol.
2) Melee attacks are obvious. Evades work quite well. D/D 3 has death blossom. S/D 3 has an evade too. Other classes like mesmers can take advantage of this too.
3) Don’t stand in the lightning. Hurts and causes torment. If you can’t remove it run out of lightning then don’t move till its gone. Purple/Blueish aura around him at times causes confusion, remove it or don’t attack till gone. Shockwave is similar to the fractal boss from frost and flame, get close to him to be safe.
4) “Run into” the updraft to glide. DON’T try “jumping” into it to glide like in the rest of the game. It doesn’t work and you will die. lol. It’s either a confirmed bug or a bad design mechanic but just run into it.
5) Stealth gliding makes avoiding the rocks a lot easier.
6) Daredevils get 3 stealth glides
7)You can’t cripple most of the illusion adds, but you can immobilize most of them.
8) Stealth makes closing rifts easier
Hope you guys like the guide and video! Was a lot of fun making it and my first one in a long time. While I included tips on here I go into a lot more detail explaining my choices in the video so definitely check that out too if you get the chance. Both the 7 minute intro about the specializations, utilities and weapon choices along with the actual boss fight that also has a lot of info in it too that you can read in the pop up dialogue boxes.
An Apology for Lore-geek Critics[Spoilers]
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: DuskyInsanePoet.4218
I am typically a forum lurker, frequenting the forums but not responding. After playing through the HoT story and reading many forum threads and watching videos about the topic, I decided it was time to talk.
ArenaNet,
Ever since you released the expansion, you have been flooded with criticism and complaints. It is understandable that right now is very stressful, trying to fix all the problems that weren’t caught in the beta, and finding some equal ground with the player base.
As I explored this new world, I felt as I had when I first started playing. I was vulnerable again, not yet knowing what to expect of this strange new land. The jungle and Ley-line Confluence was beautiful, expansive, and dangerous. The new gameplay of the Revenant and specializations put new life into repetitive builds. Gliding and bouncing around on mushrooms was a joy. Being a music nerd, I would just sit in certain locations and just close my eyes and listen, taking time to enjoy the musical art.
The new lands and environments are amazing, and people who worked on them deserve a standing ovation. My own personal let-down was the Personal Story.
This is nothing new. I have lurked the forums and know that lore-geek criticism has been prevalent. I don’t agree with everything, but there are a few common themes that I did agree with.
There was much anticipation about the new story and all the new lore that would be discovered in this strange land, but the story was rushed, and the lore was not as explored and flesh out as it could have been. I understand that there was a sense of urgency, but “urgency” and “short” are not synonyms. Using a classic example, in Lord of the Rings, there was a sense of urgency to destroy The One Ring. It was the one thing that could save or condemn all that was good, but the journey was drawn out in three long books. In HoT, we are Frodo, especially true of Sylvari resisting the dragon’s power, and the dragon’s mind is our Mount Doom. Sadly, we threw the ring into Mount Doom at chapter 3.
Personally, I was hoping for even more struggle against Mordremoth. I wanted him to be a dragon I would love to hate. He had more character than Zhaitan, but I was hoping for more mind games, and more characters turning on one another. The fight mechanics were satisfying, but I felt that I didn’t hate him enough in the end. When it came to Zhaitan, though the battle was not as satisfying mechanic-wise, I hated him enough to not be too worried about that. Zhaitan took many of my favorite characters away, mocked their sacrifice, and told me that I could easily join them if I died. Seeing Zhaitan fall in such a pitiful state was better than he deserved.
The whole part about Rata Novus and seeing Rata Sum in the distance felt like a lost opportunity. Rata Sum is a magical floating city. Mordremoth was already attacking and destroying simple waypoints, so Rata Sum should have been a magical all-you-can-eat buffet. There was a chance to explore Asuran politics and their collective resentment towards the elder dragons, but there was nothing.
Rata Novus was beautiful and I loved how the city was built using the ley-lines as a super charge station. The scientific Cave Johnson/bioshock feel of the area made me chuckle. There is so much that can be done with Rata Novus in the future, so I remain hopeful. When we go to the dragon lab, the “discovery” was terrible. “All the elder dragons have a weakness.” That is a line taken straight from the Water is Wet News Station. We are talking about Asura. They are a race of geniuses, save the one in prison. I’m pretty sure there was more to their data and studies than a simple “there is a weakness.” Even if there was nothing about Mordremoth, I would have gladly taken some Primordus lore in its place.
Now, for discovering the weakness of one of the greatest forces of nature, Mordremoth. I can accept that his weakness is his mind, his body is too large and resilient to keep down. The problem was the discovery, or lack there of. Struggling to find the weakness with the threat of destruction at any moment was a missed story chance. Knowing that the player character and group of comrades are trying to pin down his weakness, character development would happen. Both sides would have interesting interactions. Mordremoth trying to hide his mortal weakness and maybe even trying to convince the players that killing him will result in greater danger. The player could question for what purpose the elder dragons exist, still seeing them as too great a problem in the end. There could have been uncertainty that his weakness was even his mind. Everyone was too sure about his weakness in the end.
I cannot say too much about the new races, simply because there was not much to go on. I would love to know much more about the Itzel, Nuhoch, and Exalted. What are they like as individuals? Do any Exalted dislike the Charr? What does it sound like when the Itzel sing? Are the Nuhoch really as xenophobic and distrusting of strangers as the devs said? There are so many questions that could simply be answered with simple text boxes with npcs and a little more atmospheric chatter.
Those are my main issues with the story and lore. There will be people telling me that if I, or any other lore-geek critic, doesn’t like the game, we shouldn’t play. And here I confess my own personal reason for raising notice on things I felt were unsatisfactory: I love Guild Wars 2. I, lore-geek, love this game, its story, lore, and history. The reason I write my concerns down, the reason I take time out of my day to type up this page, is because I love the game enough to care deeply about it. If I did not care at all, I would not even bother.
Every time I log in, I enter a magical world and watch over my character. There is nothing that can compare to this feeling of playing the game. I know that the creators of this game are imaginative, smart, hardworking people that can bring fantasy to life. They made me laugh when the Asura were insulting each other about the calibration of an experimental portal. They made me smile when I found a Sylvari working hard to help some spiders find peace. They made me cry when Tybalt/Sieran/Forgal ran in to hold back the hoards of risen, with no hope of survival.
I know the developers, artists, composers, voice actors, story writers and more are brilliant, and that is why I place high hopes on you. I cannot speak for everyone, but I know I want your creation to succeed and become one of the greatest games out there.
Sincerely,
DuskyInsanePoet the Lore-Geek
TL;DR There are some problems with the HoT personal story, and I point them out because I care about the game.
that I’m losing my mind.

This post brought me back to some of my first mmo experiences.
One of my favorite mmo moments was in when I and another newbie somehow through curiosity and a slight case of exploration ocd ended up splattered at the bottom of some sort of dormant volcano. We fell so far we actually changed zones.
Now in this mmo you had to drag your corpse to a special rare location for resurrection or all your stuff that was not in the bank was gone, unless a high level player had the class and mats to rezz you. As our ghosts glanced around we noticed that the mobs roaming around us were actually higher than the max player level of the game. Not good, even if we figured out how to get back the correct way, we wouldn’t be able to even scratch the mobs in our way. Corpse running not likely.
As we lay there lamenting our fate and hard earned gear I got a whisper that asked me to hold on and that they were almost there.
They?
Weeell a guild that had been raiding the area (we fell right into endgame content) saw our failed flight and decided to take a detour to help us out, a long detour.
After rezzing us (which cost their cleric valuable consumables) they buffed us till our ears glowed and informed us that unfortunately they did not have time to escort us out so would we mind stepping trough this portal (again costing veeery expensive consumables) to a major capital?
After we thanked them profusely and tried to pay them with copper coins (all we had) they lol:ed and proceeded almost encumber us to death with their money. The following days we both got mails with crafted gear, money and advice from the guild members and apparently some of their non guild friends.
This made such an impression on me that I always spend some of my playtime helping others (not only newbies). And it creates a positive domino effect I think; people who have been helped remember the feeling and in turn tend to help others.
And that helps the community well I think. =)
Now I will probably get flamed for this unfortunately, but I figured I would try anyways. I also want to say I recognize your right to an opinion and the nature of this post is not to discourage you from giving Anet constructive feedback. I am posting this to address the toxicity I have seen in the map chats as of late. Especially today. As we know, the event did not come out as intended and they are working on it, but free players can see map chat and I saw in say chat a few players relating our community “as toxic as other games/people arent very nice here”. I was wondering if maybe we could stop being so hateful in map chat because that leaves a terrible impression on these players and we all know our community is not like that AT ALL.
Yes some of us are frustrated with bugs and things, but there is no reason to call people names etc etc because of differing opinion. Also, Ive seen discouraging conversations to new players who have bought the game recently when asking a question. I dont think sarcasm or down right rudeness is the right way to go about this.
And no, its not because of the free 2 play model, they cannot use map chat so it cant be because of the influx of new players. These are out existing players, and they will be making up our community, so please if you could, keep our community helpful. A good debate or conversation is great, but I dont think at the expense of someone else is worth it.
I personally have diverted a toxic map chat to a light hearted conversation about nose picking.
Anyways I am sorry if this makes anyone upset. I just thought maybe we should address this as a community and solve the problem as one. <3 Remember, I love you guys no matter what! <3333

New wiki feature and interaction: Leave article feedback (beta)
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Stephane Lo Presti
Hello everyone,
I’d like to announce here a new feature that the community of the Guild Wars 2 wiki implemented. If you look at the tabs above any article on the wiki, you’ll now find a new one: Leave article feedback (see picture enclosed). If you browse an article of the wiki and realize that it has a piece of information missing, you can click this tab, fill in the text box with the information and just click the “Save page” button. This will leave a message that wiki editors can check and then add the information wherever is appropriate (they’ll also take care of formatting it and adding any relevant links).
We’re experimenting with this feature, so please leave feedback about it in this thread. Although there’s a vibrant community of wiki editors, they could always use a hand and we’ve noticed in the past some players saying they were afraid of trying to edit the wiki, or simply not knowledgeable enough. So we’re hoping that it’ll give Guild Wars 2 players more opportunities to interact with the wiki and, possibly, become an editor!
If you’d like to share the information on this thread, please feel free to do so too! Post a link to the article and the information that’s missing, and one of the editors of the wiki will hopefully add it.
Thanks a lot for your help!
Thanks I will try that during a night cycle and see what happens. I love that Anet has put stuff like this into the game that you have to figure out to see what is going on. I always felt the skritt are up to something big and suspect they may be referring to the boat in the Silverwastes, lol.
I did finally find where someone caught the Silverwaste scrum meeting:

Are you Piken Square or Tarnished Coast? Because I can promise you that roleplayers on Piken Square are certainly not cliquey. I can’t say for certain about Tarnished Coast, since I’m not on there.
Also, I would recommend to anyone who is struggling to find RP simply first of all, ask politely in map chat if there are any RP guilds (in Piken Square at least, nobody will bite your head off) and also try joining http://www.guildwars2roleplayers.com if you haven’t already done so, as there’s an RP guild directory.
About 15 minutes ago, two people came into map chat saying “wow, so many RPers!” as they had just joined Piken Square for WvW reasons. We welcomed them with open arms.
I like just walking across a zone and taking part in the various things that are happening, sometimes they’ll chain into something with a champ and multiple players will gather together to take it on, it’s a fun dynamic
So that’s why the Hylek are capturing those Giant Beetles in Silverwastes!
I thought the same thing when I read the article. Great tie in and absolutely love it. Also found the asterisk funny as well.
The vast majority of fantasy races are based on one culture or aspect of humanity. We can’t draw on anything else for sentient races and their cultures because (as far as we know) there aren’t any others in real-life.
Within this game it’s visible in all the playable races. The charr are based on ancient Roman (and to a lesser extent Greek) culture, particularly their military. The sylvari have a lot of Celtic and Arthurian influences and the asura are basically stereotypical scientists displaced into a fantasy setting.
The human cultures are all mixed together because that’s what modern day Kryta is. In GW1 there were several different human nations: Ascalon based on Medieval Western Europe, Kryta which was similar but with a stronger Mediterranean influence, Elona which had African and Middle Eastern themed cultures and Cantha with Asian and (oddly enough) Gothic cultures.
But Cantha was cut off from the rest of the world, Elona was taken over by Palawa Joko and then isolated from the Tyrian continent by Zhaitan and Ascalon was lost to the charr. Refugees from all of them came to Kryta and brought their culture with them. It’s like Tyria’s America.
And yes the norn are based on Nordic culture and mythology (even the name norn is from Nordic myths, although it referred to people more like the Greek Fates).
But having said that I really don’t understand your point. The norn are not portrayed as being superior or more privileged than any other race. It’s not uncommon for NPCs of other races to stereotype them as poorly educated, uncooperative, blood-minded, drunks who are only useful to have around if you want something smashed. Which in some cases is not entirely untrue. I certainly don’t see them as an idealised race.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
If there’s always a lot of map chat drama (and maybe even if there isn’t) ArenaNet will address this issue in due course like they did with the Queensdale Champ Train, The Coil Fail Farm, The Plinxx Fail Farm, the Rata Sum Ambient Farm etc. and those who use inflammatory abuse to others for wanting to play the game normally will only have themselves to blame.
That music always pulled at my heartstrings.
Sung by skipping the first musical ‘verse’. I had to change my pitch to be comfortable, but if you are a comfy soprano, go for it. Sending my version to Master Jeremy Soule, the composer, as a ‘Thank-you’:
The Tengu Wall
The sun is rising
The sky is glowing
As we all go
Our separate ways
The mists unfolding
The long road wanders
Adventure calls
All those who stray
The sun is shining
On another tomorrow
As they all see
A bright new day
The world in a thousand tears
Will call
Your name again to me
As the winds of change are singing
But they do not
Speak your name
The death of many
No longer news now
The place we seek
Is at the heart of all
Of all
In dedication to Master Jeremy Soule, Composer of ‘The Tengu Wall’.
