Why bother being a Guardian if you don’t guard anyone?
Ugh, please don’t make this thread a discussion. Clearly, OP doesn’t want to listen to anyone who opposes his view about SoR. Some children have to brag about their e-peeens and it’s better to ignore them. They can’t help it.
This game has been out for almost 2 years and I still see way too many people running around with Signet of Resolve. While it might be the best choice when you look at it as somebody who just started the game or is still learning because the tooltip says it would heal for more than Shelter, it is actually much worse in almost every PvP and WvW and in most PvE situations.
I don’t know about you, but when I do tPvP I still use SoR. I have far too much access to dodging, blocking and blinding to sacrifice a 25% HP heal for a another block I don’t need. Especially with the condi meta. That kittenty passive does help more than you think.
The only times Signet of Resolve is better than Shelter are if you don’t know how to use the block because you’re fighting something you don’t know or there is just nothing to block (unblockable attacks from bosses, debuffs).
Maybe you shouldn’t waste your dodges so early into fights. Or your blinds, or your OTHER blocks of you have those. That block won’t stop you from taking bleed damage if the condi is already on you.
Now why is that? Ohhhh! Now I know
Because there are DIFFERENT heal skills used for different situations and aspects of the game. So I am sorry to inform you of this grave discovery, but shelter doesn’t do what other heal skills do. And that is for a self-explanatory reason.
This applies even more to PvP; blocking stuff like Earthshaker, Mind Wreck, Signet of Spite or other avoidable stuff with Shelter means avoiding a lot of damage, saving a dodge while keeping the point contested and healing up. On top of that thieves and mesmers could easily interupt Signet of Resolve since it has a really obvious animation and people can see the Signet being on your bar. Shelter can only get interupted by own mistakes (running into a Line of Warding or similar stuff) and some unblockable stuff (Fear Me, traited Reaper’s Mark or Basilisk Venom with Larcenous Strike). This applies to both, DPS and Bunker Guard.
Yes, all very true. But if you learn how to kite with scepter most of those issues seem to disappear :/ So not everyone has the same play-style as you, get over yourself kid.
Signet of Resolve makes you look stupid. Use Shelter. Thank you.
Shelter is not needed in PvE AL ALL since nothing hits that hard even in full zerker and anything that does usually uses AoE… which you can walk out of.
Or a clear telegraphed attack which again, even walking around it will avoid it entirely. Or maybe a blind? Dodge? orrrr… umm umm.. a different block skill? lol if you are just lazy to move while attacking.
So it is easier just to walk around the boss when he charges his attack then waste a heal, okay Hitler? Other people have different builds and more active play-styles than you
~Somebody who actually has experience on Guardian
Thankyou for showing how self-concious you are about how “good” or “pro” you are at a class in a GAME. It was not needed.
To sum everything up, You are just a supremacist who thinks your poop doesn’t stink. And you neglect SOR’s benefits over Shelter entirely. Sorry that other people don’t use the same build you do, or play the same way. That is just life, now build a bridge and get over it before you die of stress.
Greetings and salutations!
As the second season of the Living Story gains momentum, we hurtle hellbent towards a battle with Guild Wars 2’s iconic enemies, the Elder Dragons. But all is not well in the land of Tyria. The last dragon battle was somewhat…lacking, to put it kindly, and the looming possibility of further draconic warfare merits some introspection and suggestions. In an attempt to help this process, I humbly submit the following array of constructive criticism over Ye Olde State Of Dragons in GW2.
There are five major problems with the state of dragons in the game that need to be considered. Firstly, we have the problem of looming threats, or complete lack thereof, the fact that the dragon minions just don’t seem to be doing much of anything. Secondly, we have the lack of character in the dragons themselves and the distinct possibility for boredom with fighting six different “ancient and unknowable” foes. Then we have the absence of variety of dragon minions (easily remedied with effort) and the corresponding lack of variation with the heroic forces that fight them (hard to fix, but well worth it). And finally, we have the elephant in the room….the battle for Arah.
My suggestions are far from perfect, but perhaps they’ll shed light on the potential pitfalls the Living Story may face in the coming months and offer advice to improve this epic journey. I sincerely hope in the future to experience a draconic foe that feels like this, rather than this.
Here we go!

Greetings.
A discussion was started in the crafting forums about the inconsistency and cost to craft the new food recipes introduced as a part of Dry Top. Many of us (especially us Engis who are super excited about Power/Condi Duration food) are looking to verify if the needed ingredient quantities are correct. They don’t seem in line with other food that is both easier to obtain and not account bound. Even that aside, there are glaring inconsistencies if you just take the menu on it’s own:
Prickly Pear Stuffed Nopale
Nourishment (30 m): +70 Power, +40% Condition duration, +10% Experience from kills
5 Nopale – Common – Dry Top – 32c/ea on TP – 1.5s
10 Black Bean – Common – Karma – 20 Karma
20 Prickly Pear – Rare – Dry Top – 4.8s/ea on TP – 96s
10 Pile of Tangy Seasoning – Common – Crafted from inexpensive ingredients – 25c/ea on TP – 2.5s
TOTAL: 1.01G & 20 Karma
Bowl of Sweet and Spicy Beans
Nourishment (1 h): +70 Power, +40% Condition duration, +10% Experience from kills
10 Prickly Pear – Rare – Dry Top – 4.8s/ea on TP – 48s
10 Ghost Pepper – Uncommon – Orr – 2.5s/ea on TP – 25s
10 Kidney Bean – Common – Karma – 20 Karma
5 Pile of Salt and Pepper – Common – Crafted from inexpensive ingredients – 1.3s/ea on TP – 6.5s
TOTAL: 79.5s and 20 Karma
Just with these two (and it is similar with the others) we see a 30m food being more expensive to craft than it’s 1h counterpart. IMHO, I think that it was a simple matter of the Nopale and Prickly pear numbers getting mixed up/typoed. If they read like this:
20 Nopale – Common – Dry Top – 32c/ea on TP – 6.4s
10 Black Bean – Common – Karma – 20 Karma
5 Prickly Pear – Rare – Dry Top – 4.8s/ea on TP – 24s
10 Pile of Tangy Seasoning – Common – Crafted from inexpensive ingredients – 25c/ea on TP – 2.5s
TOTAL: 33s & 20 Karma
That seems WAY more in line (about half the cost for half the time) than it currently is, especially considering it is account bound.
Could the team please take a look at all the Dry Top recipes to ensure that their ingredient requirements are correct?

Why do people need a carrot? I play games for fun. If you need constant rewards, then playing games isn’t for you…
This exactly.^^

Nightmare knights can live up to their name if you can’t permablind them.
There was just the poster print offer (including HUGE sizes), a useless bubblesheet keyboard, a mouse with no real functionality. Tat basically.
Oh there was the official book that was sold out before launch and never reprinted. Since I am a collector of anime art/cel books I really would like a copy. I paid over £65 for Gorillaz’ Rise Of The Ogre and would pay the same for a GW2 art book.
I’d also pay, willingly, for 3d printed figurines of my characters.
Yeesh. I don’t play heroclix but I’d pay decent money for a DE set and a Biconic set of them.
