I think disabling gems > gold would enable real money traders further if I’m being honest.
If you take away the players ability to get easy money through ways that don’t violate the games terms of service it can cause some problematic issues.
If you’re sick of gold sellers sending you messages now you’d be in for it a lot more. I’ve played MMOs where there was no premium currency you could trade for in game currency and the RMT harass you constantly.
Not to mention, if Anet removed this some would succumb to the temptation of buying from gold sellers and it could result in their accounts getting compromised. (Be it stolen or banned.)
I’d much rather Arena Net have this option than it not to exist at all. Every person in my Guild converts gems > gold for quick money and there’s nothing wrong with it!
I’ve always hated that they allowed it and tradable precursors and legendary weapons. I consider in-game gold something you only acquire in game and I’ve never converted my gems to gold. The in-game “economy” is designed to foster gem sales and the game’s worse for it.
/Rant
That won’t prevent players from buying gold. It’ll just mean they will go outside channels to do it. Also without the game’s cash→gem→gold system the price of gold from those third parties will increase.
I can understand why precursors are tradeable simply due to their low drop rate, RNG and questionable usefulness for the character it drops on. A thief has no use for a staff precursor. As for legendary weapons, well the thief could craft that staff precursor into a staff legendary and sell that instead of just selling the precursor.
As others have pointed out, it’s two sides of the same coin. Eliminating the Gems→Gold will eliminate the Gold→Gems because the items being bought on one side, supplies the items being sold on the other.

silk isnt a problem
leather is
This. Silk is a thriving market with lots of different uses and demands on the supply, Leather on the other hand….
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
You can’t farm for leather any more easily than you can farm for cloth, but leather prices are still low. So it doesn’t look like the farmability of silk is the driving factor behind the price. (At the end of the day, most people who play the game do so to have fun, not to farm like a crazy fool all day.)
Exactly what are you winning by buying gems and converting to gold?
The Tentonhammer link died for some reason.
They probably figured out that breaking the embargo because another site broke the embargo is not a good idea ^^

I love the new finisher UI change, but I noticed that I couldnt pick which ones would be rotated around.
Can we set some sort of favorite such as that there is a 100% it will be picked from that pool or at least show those 8/10 times or something along the lines (100% seems better to me and I would imagine easier to code(?))

The OP is Entitled to play the game his way, but is not Entitled to ruin the game for everyone else.
There are those of us that only care for ourselves, those of us that care for a group, and those of us that care for everyone. For better or worse I’m the type that cares for my group above all else.
While selfish implies “self” a group can be selfish and I think the above fits the definition. I have no problem with you being ok with what you are doing, but call a spade a spade. You are doing it for your Guild. You “allowing” other to come along does not change the fact that your actions lock the Event for 20ish minutes.
That’s the thing – I don’t deserve the abusive messages. ….
Do other players deserve to miss either some of the FE event chain OR Steam Ogre? You are basically forcing them to choose (and that is 100% your choice). I’m in no way stating you “deserve” the criticism, but you are going to get it if you continue your current method….it’s pretty simple.
If you are truly getting verbal abuse, report it and move on.
Fate is just the weight of circumstances
That’s the way that lady luck dances
FE is roughly a 13 minute event from quarter of the hour. Choosing to do an adjacent event during that time, one that will lock for 20 minutes once done, doing it not during the time when there are others around it’s entrance but after everyone has retired to the adjacent room with only a passing chat message once the next to final battle starts, to ease their consensus? Well we told them. Few if any heard us and came to join. Our hands are clean.
PvE in this game was designed to eliminate many of the common ways in MMOs when one player could mess with another in PvE. I commend the OP that they found a way to mess with a room full of players.

If a guild needs to require people to rep, they are doing it wrong.
A good guild will be engaging, helpful and fun enough that people will want to rep it most of the time. Requiring it just shows how little effort the leaders want to put into retaining their members, and possibly a fear that if they allow multirepping their members will find better guilds to be in.
You don’t own your members or their leisure time.
Allowing people to be in multiple guilds is one of my favorite features in this game, even if I don’t have much chance to take advantage of it, and rather needed since you can’t put individual characters in unrelated guilds on their own.

I wonder how people will feel if I use “casuals” as a insult to people.
That isn’t elitism, that’s just plain rude and obnoxious.
Please stop using “elitism” as to go to buzz word for insults in dungeons.

The thing about filtering systems is that sometimes the things you don’t want just get through but what it does do is decrease that amount. I mean kitten even Heisenberg with his one hundred and one purifying steps(filtering) for making meth can only go so far. No matter how good a filtering system is, it does not guarantee 100% good experience. Imo all it has to do is to be able to good enough most of the time. I think the filter system will definitely eliminate a lot of toxic players for the beginner levels, which I feel is the most important aspect. If beginners are having a good time, there is a good chance of getting fresh blood into the dungeon community. As for advanced, that is where most of the toxic players will be imo. In league most bronze v think they are gold and that the reason they stay in bronze v is because of their teammates lol(bad skilled players thinking they are good and blaming others). and in League its called Elo Hell because of how toxic those people are.
All fair points. I’ll add self-classifying filters to the proposal and see where it goes. What are we thinking in terms of skill-based filters:
- Beginner
- Intermediate
- Advanced
Do we think Intermediate makes sense? Just the bounding two or do we like the middle rank?
dont make the filter skill based, make intent based.
- time attack- users use optimized parties and specialized builds and aim for record times
- dungeon completion – lets get it done
- Learning learning or teaching the ropes
this way you group people with similar intents, rather than how they classify themselves.
+1
This classification makes far more sense, and is far more meaningful.
Edit:
I’d tweak the description of time attack though. People may not be aiming for “record runs” but do want a fast run. Record runs often take practice attempts and lucky rng from bosses
Maybe something like:
“for players who use optimized builds and team compositions, and are aim to complete as quickly as they can”

All the talk about filtering, why not just add the ability to link builds like they had in GW1. Was more than enough to get the party composition you wanted.
because contrary to popular belief there is quite a bit of build diversity. Even within the “meta”
Changing builds on the fly during a run is something that many of us do often.
Teach them not to join the toxic elitist lfgs and instead to make their own “everyone is welcome” parties.
Seriously like how many times do we have to see these kinds of post? Don’t you guys ever learn to JUST POST YOUR OWN LFG can it really be that hard? I don’t get it to me it seems like people just want to get carried over. And if you don’t fill the req the post ask for don’t join it.
It just seems like people are so kitten bored in the game they have to complain about every single detail and instead they could just go and workout or do something else.
And even if you are a new player it really can’t be that hard to take initative on your own and actually search on wiki or the forums what zerker means etc. since the game been out for over 2 years.
people are just lazy
(edited by Ryze.2891)
people do dungeons to grind for gold.
Very few people still play them “just for fun”.
Dungeons may be accessible to sub-80’s, but that doesn’t mean those who are level 80 want to carry you or your guildies. They want to get it done quickly and smoothly.
Taking a level 35, or taking no one would make absolutely no meaningful impact on a team with a brain between them. Why would they carry a pug that they will likely never see again?
Also 1 geared level 80 as as useful kitten level 35’s in ac explorable.
If they want to run it as a low level – thats fine. They just have to expect to run it with other low levels who don’t really care about the gold grind for legendary/asc gear yet.
It is not picky, stop feeling so entitled to hamper other peoples experience.
Try thinking about it from the party’s perspective, instead of your own.

My healing signet only works when im ooc not during a fight, and i can only click it once and hope im not getting smacked hard whereas a dedicated healer would have me covered so i can get back in the fight. I really dont understand the opinion of not having a healer since this game is a meta build anyway. im not expecting anything but if you feel this game has no need for a healer, youre sadly mistaken. There are some situational fights (lupi for example) where a healer should be a mandatory meta. Why are you defending the no healer argument? State some factual evidence instead of trying to condescend me for playing.
Believe it or not, the holy trinity actually promotes anti-diversity, as it is just another meta, but it is a less accessible meta. Everyone can play all roles is the point of Guild Wars 2 system. And, healing signet? That heals constantly, not just OOC. If you want to have a healer in your party, that’s fine, you can make your own party using the LFG tool to play with people you want (just like everyone else does). Punishing everyone that bought the game because it had no holy trinity, certainly isn’t the way to go about it.
In this video there is a bar under the NPCs health that changes when it is being taunted by the player. Is this a new sort of aggro system? I truly hope so.

That’s the new defiance bar, which is related to CC. Nothing related to aggro. Guild Wars 2 already has an aggro system, but players can not manipulate it with threat from skills, and that will likely never change.

are you a dev? How do you know it’s a defiance bar. Someone on reddit claimed it was a new defiance bar and an ANET dev said he was basically wrong. http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/2wluav/new_defiance_bar_active_only_during_monsters/
It’s the symbol used for unshakable, it’s pretty easy to tell.

that symbol is only shown during the NPC’s ability. there is a different, new looking icon.
Oh boy, there never is a point to attempt to debate with someone pro-trinity.
Here we go with everyone chiming in on the forums disagreeing with everything any poster has ever said. I, however am all for a trinity or a group wide healing build. I dont really care how “pro” you claim to be or “you need to learn damage mitigation and dodge better”, stop before you even start. this is a game based on aoe damage, and face tanking just like ever other major mmo. There shouldve been a healing build at launch. My 2 cents.
Dodging and avoiding damage =/= face tanking. Everyone can heal themselves anyway. The game was advertised as no holy trinity on almost every site that talked about it, it’s your own fault if you came to Guild Wars 2 wanting to play a tank or a healer.
Guild Wars 2 isn’t moving towards a holy trinity. It wouldn’t even work in Guild Wars 2
A holy trinity would be the opposite of diversity anyway.
