I’m pretty sure they don’t change, it’s just that different outfits change how they look.
If you’re female you can get the exact same effect in real life. (And if you’re male ask a woman about it.)
For example I’m a B cup and right now when I’m wearing an unwired, unpadded bra and a loose black t-shirt with a high neckline (it’s a ‘unisex’ band shirt, which basically means it’s a shapeless bag with sleeves) I look very flat chested. But if I went and changed into a decent bra and a shaped V-neck top I can make myself look like a C cup.
I can absolutely guarantee it’s not that the clothes are changing the actual size of my breasts*, it’s just creating that illusion by changing the position slightly and putting more emphasis on them. There are limits to how effective it is, but done right you can make them look at least one cup size bigger or smaller.
*Disclaimer – there are padded bras which will do this, by adding a layer of material over your boobs. But they’re an exception and not what I’m talking about here.
The same happens with my characters in game. I avoid putting certain armors on my norn because she’s already got the biggest model (both body in general and breasts) and in some of them she just looks ridiculous. At the other extreme my sylvari uses the skinniest, most flat chested model and every so often I’ll put new armor on her and go ‘woah, she has boobs!’. The actual model doesn’t appear to change, it is just that it’s a different style that makes them stand out more.
Correct! However, I think part of the problem is how they breasts are being displaced. If you happen to own it take a look at the pirate outfit. Given the size of my characters breasts * the 2nd biggest * just changing into that outfit from my ugly wash glove colored bra, the breast size changes a lot and does not make sense with the outfit.
I look like I appear at at least 2 cup sizes smaller and given how the outfit looks my breasts should definitly touching if not pressing together, and the should be proped up more which they are not. The problem is A they either failed at displacing the breasts correctly by maybe pushing the it into the sides of the outfit which dont make much since to me anyways in that outfit or B they simply just crush the breasts into the outfit and did not bother to modfiy them causing the size difference.
The Cherry Blossom Top * or any of the other tops that look like it * is another one where there is a fair amount of the bottom of the breasts displaced which would not be an issue if they breasts were made to be pressed together as the breasts are be pushed up and out, but the cleavage never changes leading to all that breast being push to the side which doesn’t work.
It amazes me how much issues breasts cause in real life and even in a game lol

Are we absolutely sure that they change size, and that it’s not an optical illusion? I remember a similar discussion took place back in GW1 around the bust size for female Ritualists, and when one player actually used a ruler to measure the bust sizes for two different armor sets (one of which made her bust look much bigger), it turned out that the busts were actually the exact same size.
The bust size needs to be seperate from the body choices.
2nd I DO NOT LIKE my boobs changing size or anything else of my body/face when I put on different outfits. Another game change your breasts, torso, even footsize depending on what outfits I wore. Drive me nuts because I take a lot of care to make my character, I don’t like things being changed.

If you think GW2’s females are really busty, you haven’t seen this yet:
WTB flat-chested plate armor for females.
There are some.
AC and CM iirc, for example, are quite flat.
Most used: Guard/Mes/War/Nec/Ele.
Yes, i use 5 chars at time. Because REASONS.
Bust size is the least of the problems Human females have IMO. Their, as well as human males’ anatomy is completely off. Looks at their hips, their waist, size of their their chest. It resembles much more a barbie doll than an actual human being. Males, on the other hand, have some strange thing going in the pelvic region, as if both of their hip joints have been broken and healed badly.
Ironically, norn females are much more anatomically correct than humans. Norn males, on the other hand, are much closer to overgrown dwarves.
Took me 2 mins to realise they were bouncing lol, easily distracted… But yea I’ve noticed a lot more girls playing MMO’s over the past couple of years and tbh the whole “hitting on girl gamers” thing is starting to wear off a little and I think that’s attracting more girls to play. That or they are generally just getting tougher on guys who treat them badly. Either way though I do like girls company, sometimes more than guys so I really hope it keeps growing and more and more do start playing without feeling the need to pretend to be a guy. I think it would definitely bring the community together more, MMO worlds like the real world needs a bit of both sides to be at its best.
I’ve been looking up statistics on how many males play female avatars. I haven’t found anything conclusive. The numbers vary from 25 to 50% of females being played by a males. There is one thing all sites confirmed though. The number of female gamers is growing exponentially.
I also ran into an oddity. During the beta, I played with a guy that started a guild in pre-release and invited me to it. We played with one other girl whom said she was a guy. When we were about to use voice-chat, she finally admitted to being female and stated that she lied because she didn’t want to be treated differently. I like to think I never treated her any differently but I may have subconsciously been slightly harder on her because she lied and I REALLY hate that.
As for the matter at hand, my toons usually have a C-cup. I’m a guy but certainly an odd one. I don’t care for breasts. Seriously. Even in real life, I only notice them if they are extremely huge or extremely jiggly. It took me 7 months before I noticed that my night elf’s breasts bounced when she ran. It took me 2 months for this game.
As much as I like a large bust it gets a bit too much and just really distracting! I’m a guy and think a male human wearing a skirt will make me question my sexuality more than playing a female character, so chose to make my elementalist female, and I really like it but in a lot of light armour they just bounce around all over the place and are massive! The flat chest physique is too small and the only other alternative is massive, there’s no middle ground. But I guess a lot of guys who make female characters make them for the bust size, so justified from ANets perspective but please make a middle ground or way to adjust them a little.
I still remember when me and my friend brought our alts into the mists for a little dueling. I’ve never seen his character before but shes a small 5 ft 6 or so human female or something. The armor probably didn’t help but my first thought was “why is your character so fat?” and low and behold she’s just packing heat. I still make fun of him for that.
I would have personally made my guardian flat if I could because shes a warrior for christ’s sake and watching metal plating bounce around gets awkward after a while.
Norn got’s it way worse if you ask me.

also having a word filter up makes this thread hilarious
Why is every female toon D+ size, it as if flat are non existing.
Flats would be mistaken for males;p
Besides there is no bounce animation for flats, and all these bounce nicely in-game. Makes you wonder how much time they spent getting them right lol.
We all know why the options only include mostly ‘perfect’ bodies (both male and female). Granted, Guild Wars 2 does have a few that wander from perfection, but you still cannot create the ‘stubby innkeeper’ or ‘Prince Bokka’ types.
Which is a shame, really.
On a side note, it took me a bit of effort to actually find some realistic clothes for an adventuring female. For those of you that want the non-revealing look, I recommend Student armor.
There’s a good range of options for the human body actually, like 8 or 10. Most races only have 6. I’ll confess I like the really busty ones, but I’m glad there’s other options for fairness. What bugs me is that there’s no variation in waist size, they all look like they are going to snap under pressure- even the “thick” ones are positively waspish.

The strangest part is, the only body shape of human females that looks remotely curvy has a TINY bust. I’m not asking for Norn milkbags here, but it simply looks unproportional as kitten.
I actually like that body a lot. Large hips and healthy-looking legs is all I’m asking for. =)
I agree that more options would be desirable, but as is the case for their hairstyles, human females have a lot of options compared to many other race/gender combinations, so I don’t think the devs are going to focus on them for the time being.

Uh, as far as I know you can make a flat chested Human. Mess around with the selections on a side view.
Looking at classical paintings, seems that even then increasing bust size and cleavage was very important. So maybe it is sort of accurate, the problem I have is the lack of obesity options, gotta love me some bigger ladies, meat is for the man, bone is for the dog.
Maybe the bust size will be an indicator on whether the player behind that character is male or female :P
Human females need a more voluptuous figure in general. One of the “biggest” forms has the largest bust size and still looks like flippin Barbie…
At least Norn Females get a chunkier size, albeit with more bust included.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
Well, a growing baby Norn would need more substance to… Oh who am I kidding. Faaaan seeerrivce.
Tandrel, Sylvari Guardian
Have you ever looked at a norn?
Well, I decided to give my female human characters a modest bust size (B-C) and guess what.. I am female ;-)
For me, that is aesthetic, but who knows what other people like and however who cares?
I just try to ignore it.. and it seems more difficult to ignore that on giga busty norns xD
Eh? D cups? You sure? My thief has a modest C cup at best.
also, there are a couple of other considerations…
- - ever been to a ren-faire? whether or not it’s strictly historically accurate, the general population (at least in America) is convinced that the vast majority of women in the medieval/renaissance period wore tight bodices to accentuate their bosoms – as such, it’s not entirely implausible that for whatever reason, the fashion around Divinity’s Reach focuses around women in tight bodices that…er…exaggerate…their actual bust sizes
- - relative sizes and the character creation screen – the OP may have been talking about NPC’s, and there is a surprising degree of uniformity amongst them (women or men, we’re all surprisingly healthy humans with reasonable body weights – maybe we just eat really well as a society) but I know I ran into several problems designing my own characters, especially the women
even though there’s a height choosing slider, I’m not sure what the baseline is designed around, or if the baseline for different races is fixed, or is related to the baseline of the chosen race – as such, several of my female characters turned out to be far, far smaller than the 2 men I had originally created, even though I chose the same point on the slider
the same thing happened with their busts – I wanted some degree of definition to their busts, so I avoided the very flat chested options, and settled in the end on the largest bust option, as at the time, in reference to the other options at hand, it appeared to be closest to what I envisioned…
but apparently, there was some…clothing…adjustment being made on her actual dimensions, because once I started playing the game, depending on which clothes I put her in, her bust size changed significantly, to the point where in certain clothing options she seemed almost comically large, which, quite frankly, was something I didn’t want
I currently blame the character design tool as having no available baseline comparison, and even the underwear model appears to be suffering from a certain degree of push-up…er…feature…I guess…you would call it…that was artificially altering her apparent size
I’m really, really hoping at some point there’s a character re-design tool made available – and I wouldn’t mind being able to compare characters to other characters or available npc’s to get some sort of relative baseline/context
The busty substances issue is expected…it’s the upskirt…now there’s a thing. Not sure what to make of that
Because I played as a Human in Guild Wars 1. Surprising, huh?
So, the Tengu have an airship? This Zephyr Sanctum? I’m guessing at least by the name. I thought those were relatively new inventions by the Pact…
Even if they are totally different make and model, still kinda weird if the Tengu had an airship first.
First off all, the living story is playing later in history then the main story.
Second off all, during the forging of the pact we meet Izu Steelshrike
Izu is a Tengu who is asked to work for the pact cause he (she??) is one of the finest smiths and crafters in all of Tyria. It wouldnt surprise me if Izu is asked for this just for the skills of making airships.
Off course if the next installment is bout Tengu off course.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
I doubt the sanctum is referencing the island- more likely it’s a literal refuge. But that four winds stuff sounds Tengu, and the housing in the screenshot reminds me of some of the buildings in Kaineng.
