Greetings,

If you read or post on our official forums, you may have noticed the +1 button next to each post. Recently, we have updated this system with more features and visibility for you, the players. You can find the full forum update notes here. This post is to familiarize you all with the new features in our +1 system and how they affect you.

Added a link to user profile pages which shows posts that a user has +1’d, ordered such that top-most is the most recent

Added a link to user profiles to show highly rated posts ordered descending by score

When visiting a user’s profile page, you can view all posts that user has +1’d starting with the most recent, or see all of their own posts that have been +1’d by others sorted descending by score.

Both of these options are opt-in, because we respect your privacy and don’t want to force you into sharing information you are not comfortable with sharing. As such, you may not see these links in other user profile pages immediately. You will always see these links on your own page, regardless of your settings.

To allow others to view these pages on your own profile, click on your display name in the upper right of the forum, then on the following page, click “Edit Profile”, check the last two boxes and click “Save changes”.

Popularity is divided between popular and very popular as well as per-thread and forum-wide

What this means is that there are two levels of popularity, categorized “popular” and “very popular”. Currently these are indicated by a thumbs-up icon that appears next to the +1 button. If a post is very popular, the thumbs-up earns a star that appears within said icon.
Our future plans include updating these indicators to something more visually striking. Until then, this is how you will know if a post has achieved popular status.

There are also two levels in which posts are gauged for popularity, on a per-thread basis and forum-wide. Forum-wide popularity takes into account +1s from within a set time period across the forum. Per-thread popularity takes into account all +1s in a thread. Visually, a forum-wide popular post will have a red underline beneath the thumbs-up icon.

Over the next few weeks, we will monitor thresholds against post-scores and make adjustments as we see is necessary to ensure accurate display of popularity indicators. Going forward, if you read a post and like it, press that +1 button. It’s how you let us, and other players, know that you liked what you read.

Where did the dryders go?

Whoever said I wasn’t “chill”? I saw it as an intended joke too, doesn’t mean I cannot respond to it though.

Side note: I am now really wanting to see Icebrood Dryders, since the Shiverpeak ones seem to originate from the Far Shiverpeaks (those seen in the Northern Shiverpeaks were only in some of the northernmost reaches of said Northern Shiverpeaks, and would at best barely touch Frostgorge Sound’s western edge).

Then again, I feel as though the different kinds of Branded, Destroyers, and Icebrood are severely lacking (no Icebrood/Branded wurms? Or Icebrood/Branded grawl? Icebrood bats as seen in concept art? No branded harpies? And the branded elementals using normal elemental models is very saddening too. Not to mention how there’s only 3 destroyer models (excluding the one-use-only model for Destroyer of Worlds, couldn’t use that one instead of the Megadestroyer (aka big destroyer troll)?).

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

Konig man, you need to chill out enjoy a joke now and then.

Even Anet gave props to Wizards in GW1. The boss ‘Selvetarm’ (who is a Dryder in GW1) is named after a Drow God.

I saw the Wizards comment as just that, a good natured joke for levity. Not everything on this board has to be super serial all the time.

To get back on topic, I do agree with you Konig when you say it’s really more a matter of we haven’t been to the places on the map where Dryders have been most populated. I’m sure they still exist in the Underworld considering how big a roll they played in that area, and I definitely wouldn’t be surprised to see if they were still on the Ring of Fire. But until such time, we’ll just have to wait and see.

Off the top of my head, no. But I’m fairly sure that dryders – like a vast majority of D&D lore – originates from an older mythos, even if not the exact same name or identity. Most Tolkien and D&D fantasy originates from norse mythos (incuding, yes, dark elves – though in the original norse mythology, dark elf and dwarf are one and the same), so my bet would be there.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

250 years, may well have gone extinct in the few places they lived. Maybe the sudden changes of their homes brought them down because they could not adapt. Maybe norn went out and killed them all. You know… sort of the same reasons some real world creatures went extinct.
Can say they are at least extinct in the parts of the world we know about. There could still be some in other areas, getting by.

Bonus Mission Pack?

The Guild Wars (you know, since that’s kinda the reason why we’re here)

This so much! I actually once had the idea of making an RTS about the Guild Wars, with the 3 human nations, Charr and unspecified guilds as factions. I think they could make a broader brand out of the GW franchise, however I also understand that they are MMO designers, so switching to a RTS game might not be easy or even possible for Anet, especially with the NC Soft as publisher.

You don’t win friends with salad! Sorry I just got caught up in the rhythm.

So unless they made the missions as easy as your PS, then you’d all be running around as Livia while she’s getting the scepter >.<

Well since we already have the PS system in place, it could function a lot like one. Plus the Bonus Mission Pack used a specific build and the entire mission was designed around it so they could make it at a balanced level of challenging. But true, it may not happen because of the Fractals. Just thought it was a fun topic to think about.

Bonus Mission Pack?

For those that didn’t play GW1, there was an item in the cash shop called the Bonus Mission Pack which opened up a few single-player missions taking place during important events from the eyes of a historical character. They touched on things like the Tengu War and Gwen’s joining of the Ebon Vanguard. In addition, it allowed for fun new skins for weapons after completing one of these missions.

So I was wondering, since we have a gem store, why not add something like this for lore fans as well as a new way to get cool skins. Nobody seemed to complain about having to pay for a new way to get skins and I loved getting to see first hand events we’d only heard about. They could add a lot in the 250 year space between games as well as events during or before GW1. If they had events take place in areas we’d been in GW1 without the 250 years of change to it, it would be exciting for vets to even just get to play again in old unchanged areas.

Ideas:
The Foefire (know it’s also a fractal but we never get to actually see it happen)
Flooding of Lions Arch / Rise of any of the Elder Dragons
Missions following the various companions like Livia with the Scepter of Orr
Actually play during the Searing attack by the charr

Anyone else have cool ideas they could add that you’d like to play?

When were the Norn first discovered?

Son of Elias.5420

First discovering by whom?

The charr knew of them way before ‘Eye of the North’, because it mentions in ‘The Movement of the World’ that; “Many expected the initial Charr expansion through northern Tyria to become a tide of blood that would crash upon the Shiverpeaks, drowning Charr and Norn alike. The reality proved different. When the Charr reached the foothills, the Norn drove them back with a single crushing blow, completely decimating every warband sent against them.”

So, is the ‘initial Charr expansion’ when they first came to the area, before the humans even established Ascalon? Since the humans drove the charr out of Ascalon back in 100 BE (over 1400 years ago), this would mean the two races have known about each other for quite some time. On the other hand, if it refers to when the charr were expanding after the Searing, that would be only about 250 years ago.

The first one seems more likely, since it’d be odd if the charr and norn never interacted before then. And especially since the norn seem cool with the charr after the Searing – the Movement of the World mentions this: From this accord of mutual respect and strength arose a strange pseudo-alliance that has yet to be broken. For nearly two hundred years, the eastern border of the Shiverpeaks has been stable. The Charr are allowed passage through Gunnar’s Hold, and the lower canyons where the Norn had spread. In fact, during the Searing, the Norn allowed the Charr armies passage through the northern pass from Ascalon into Kryta, setting the stage for the Charr invasion of the central human lands."

So, the Norn were likely ‘discovered’ about 1400 years ago by the charr.

“A man who trusts everyone is a fool.
And a man who trusts no one is a fool.
We are all fools, if we live long enough.”

The first mention of them is at the time of the battle with the Great Destroyer (1078 AE). I would expect the first encounter with humans would be whenever the Ebon Vanguard discovered the Eye itself. The charr knew of them at least as far back as the Searing because it was the norn who allowed them to cut through the Far Shiverpeaks so they could then turn south to invade Kryta.

Not sure if this has been touched on yet

But I love the jump puzzle, but theres a few things I would fix if I could. Few things at the start you can get stuck on horribly and that takes off a few seconds. Normally getting stuck screws you. Yes I know you keep jumping through, but sometimes that doesn’t work. The slime is a tad to fast, even if you nail the start and plunge through the part above I still have trouble. I’m one that lines up his jumps and you really have little to no time to do so. Thus your mostly playing a 50/50 chance as you speed through the jumps of making them if your not lined up right. Would slowing the slime down like one second be bad? Also I’ve jumped through platforms I should have landed on, been randomly ported out half way through (when I was doing good and was like OH YA I CAN DO THIS) and other small manners.

But over all I love the puzzle, I like speed jump quests … I loved the lab one in the volcano with the disappearing platforms.

But I don’t love the glitchness of the tower

Why do people think that if they can’t do something in a video game, it needs to be changed for them?

I like difficult things in this game. Makes me enjoy the game a lot more than single player games too. It’s what I’ve been wanting a very long time and I’d be disappointed if they DID change something like this.

The jumping puzzle is perfect. If you can’t do it, that’s fine. It’s not on the achievement so you don’t HAVE to. It’s a fun mini game.

-edit- I’m an asura, with the smallest model it can be. I endured the charr and norns on top of me. If you can’t get use to where your character is, you can’t do the puzzle fast enough anyway.

The problem I basically keep seeing is this.

1. Everyone enjoys the Halloween event
2. Everyone wants to be a completionist and do everything in the event.
3. Some people are good at jumping puzzles/some people are not
4. The prior are happy, the later are not

There’s really no bridge between those two groups. I tend to agree with the later simply because the tower requires a level of dexterity and platforming usually not indicative of MMO games. It’s not that weird for people who like MMOs to NOT be good at jumping puzzles. I think Maple Story, ToR, and now GW2 are the only MMOs I’ve seen with them.

On evil design: Hardest part is at the beginning where everyone is clumped up. The game seems to do this intentionally by arbitrarily stopping everyone’s momentum and making sure they’re clumped up at arguably one of the hardest parts of the whole puzzle. I can’t really deny that this is kind of b/s.

I finished this jp after 5 hours of multiple ties. I went through many states :
– After 1h30 : I was annoyed but the people around, I was annoyed by the wait
– After 3h : I wasn’t annoyed by the people, I tried to imagine they’re not there, I thouhgt i could never finish it.
– Last 2h : As I was going higher and higher, my waiting time grew smaller and smaller, and most of the puzzle is done with 1 or 2 people around you (or even none), so I wasn’t annoyed anymore and was even proud of my progress.

It’s nice to have 99% of the content of a game that is accessible but it’s also nice to have that +1% for trained players or very persistent players. When you finish a hard thing you’re proud of yourself and that’s a nice feeling in a game you like.

This jp doesn’t give any advantage by finishing it (stats are commons and skin isn’t nice or unique), you only get an achievement and not even a title.

Sorry mate, I might be a bit edgy right now. I’m actually really enjoying Halloween and though some things (like bugs, bugs and cameras) could be better, I’m getting annoyed when I come to the forum and half the threads are about people complaining and then some more feeling entitled.
But seriously: you should have seen me and my guild mates in our first week trying the Dark Reverie Jumping Puzzle in Caledon. We actually went at it over the span of a week and “I will survive” became our inofficial guild song. Either you died from freaking brambles on the way up or that one jump on those higher up mushrooms got the better of you. So no, I don’t feel very frustrated with this one. It pricked a bit when two friends got to the top before me, but oh well. Now I’m fired up. ^^
