This is MMO, not Single Player game! Come on ppl!

Im hope in this dungeon, will be parts where party must cooperate, and final fight will looks like fight with frog in SAB, where we need some kind of strategy to win.

God, I wish you people (not you specifically) but all of “you” who continue to spout the “but its an MMO” mantra would just STFU.

I personally loathe this 5 man dungeon garbage. I DONT WANT to spend my leisure time waiting around for hours to get a group together, where maybe I might actually be in one where all of the group members actually stay in the group for the entire run!
I want to get in the game, and play the kitten game, not spend hours on end socializing, or simply waiting in town spamming LFG.

This 5 man BS was a horrible decision IMHO. I’ve finished my personal story, now I have nothing else to do, and have completely lost interest in the game simply because I cannot explore the dungeons, etc. What point is there in participating in the “living story” if the only way I can complete it is to group up for a dungeon?

I can’t go on playing. I log in, see that my personal and F&F story are incomplete and get so discouraged that I just log back out.

I couldn’t get enough of this game a week ago. I was having a blast. Once I realized that I had to do a group dungeon to finish the stories, I lost all motivation to play.

If every ‘living story’ and ‘personal story’ is going to end in a 5 man dungeon, I’m done with this game. I left WoW because I was sick of grouping up to complete content. I thought GW2 would be different. I guess I was wrong.

And here I am to add my few words to the debate. yes dissapointed that the storyline ends in a dungeon, but even more dissapointed with some of the attitudes here to poeple who like to play as an individual in a MMO RPG. That expands to Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game, I can see that most of the negative and even hurtful comments here probably come from people who have never played a real RPG at all. Massive means it’s big, Multiplayer means lots of players can play at the same time, Online is obvious, the RPG bit here is the kicker, if I want to play the role of wandering hero, a lone wolf travelling across the world jumping in to help the oppressed and aiding people to defend homesteads and towns that’s my right. Nothing about MMO says, thou MUST group in parties of 5, It simply says you are in a huge world with lots of other people., go for your life!

The ones who say, oh go play a single player game miss the point, what makes a great MMO is the variety of people playing, if you end up with an entire game filled with clones how much fun will that be? My best adventures here have been with one or two friends, we can’t always get on at the same time, when I am by myself I explore, seek out hidden places and etc. The world is big, but not big enough, finding hidden caves that very few poeple know about, having it much bigger, even TO big for a person to fully explore would be ideal, hidden places with secret chests, ways to get stuff that don’t involve compulsory 5 man dungeons, bliss.

Running dungeons over and over again, the pits, the worst, done enough of that in other MMO’s, it’s one of the reasons I have never completed a dungeon in GW2, and probably never will, and it’s one of the reasons I came to GW2, the claim that they are breaking the mold. The only mold breaking they did was in the quests mechanics and open world events, which are not really open world events but just appear to be, they are actually events in large unlimited player dungeon style instance.

An MMO can’t survive with just dungeon runners, it simply can’t. The current model is just driving away customers, I am starting to look for a new game myself, so unless the dev’s try a bit more mold breaking this game will die, and that’s true. Oh yes the naysayers, any large game like this will on for quite a while just due to momentum and the investment from the devs, but it can’t go on without a good range of players, and the dungeon only mechanics at the moment is going to drive a lot off. It survives now because of the model, pay to buy, free to play, but once that pay to buy market has been flooded is the crunch, give it 2 years.

The only thing we can hope is that bigger and better games spawn from the ruins of older games, have fun all.

I am not dedicated dungeon runner. I do WvW, PvP, Dungeons, Guild Missions, Stories. I didnt react only to you, I react to everyone who could play free trial weekends or beta or could read blogs about this game before buying it, bought it and now is disappointed of this game. What content do you exactly expect if you dont want to group up? Should anet make 50% of future updates for people who dont want to group up? I am not sure that this could be the good idea of updating this game since there arent many people like you. Not that many compared to people who are satisfied.

EDIT: I think that people who hate or complain about some area of the game should provide some good feedback and ideas. Henchmens arent the solution of dungeons and stories etc, because even ranger pets are quite dumb and needed many updates. Henchmen AI would need to be really awesome because there are much more movement options, aoe skills etc than in GW1 so it wouldnt be that easy as in GW1.

I don’t normally jump in and address people like you, but I am going to make an exception: Although your edit softened your lack of understanding of what this thread is about, your previous post and the first half of this one show that you haven’t read this thread at all. Jumping in with a reactionary response only inflames the situation with its non-constructive commentary.

To toss you a breadcrumb to spare you reading 8 pages, here are the highlights:

1) The Living Story and the Personal Story are, up until the very last step, achievable as a solo player. Weeks, and sometimes months, of working away at these Stories only to have a 5-man dungeon requirement to see their natural completion has left many people disappointed and angry. Why? Up until the last stage, those Story lines were completable as a solo player. The Stories force you into a 5-man dungeon if you want to see the end, and if you want your achievement.

2) This is not a thread against dungeons. There are many play styles in the game, and GW2 seems to offer a decent amount of content to satisfy all players. Some people prefer WvW and will not step into PvE at all to level; others prefer to spend all their time running dungeons. Many people like to craft, jump from DE to DE, or whatever their hearts desire. If you don’t want to, or dislike, one aspect of the game you don’t even have to go near it.

..That is, except if you want to see the end of the Living Story or your Personal Story. Then, and only then, no matter your play style or likes and dislikes, ANET forces everyone to run a dungeon for Story completion.

3) ANET has produced a wonderfully progressive, brilliant game that seems to achieve what they set out to do: to break the mold of other MMO’s. That’s why people came here. There were bold promises they wouldn’t be “Like those other games”, and for the most part they’ve succeeded grandly. There are so many options for so many types of players in the game that it really feels like someone was finally listening and “got it”. The key word here is Options.

Look at the Daily and Monthly achievements. After sufficient feedback, the Devs changed them so they weren’t so rigid in what you had to do to complete them. Now you get to choose 5 out of a list of tasks and you don’t have to do any you don’t like. It was an immensely fair change that acknowledged there is a wide spectrum of their playerbase who all don’t do the same things.

This is what this thread really boils down to: the current lack of options to see Story completion. Everyone has to do one thing, no matter how they play, or they are left out in the cold.

I agree that ending Flame and Frost with a dungeon isn’t as player friendly as other options might have been. Here’s my idea on what they could have done to please most people. Have several choices, including a dungeon, like we had in our personal story.

We were frequently given choices along the way. Do you want to join the Vigil, Priory, or Whispers orders? Each uses a different approach to dealing with the enemy. Do you want to enlist the aid of the Skritt, Hylek or Quaggan? You get the point. So why couldn’t we have had something similar in ending this story?

The Azurans are experts in underground matters along with new inventions. It would have been a good idea to enlist their aid and that of the Priory to investigate the Molten Alliance and their facilities. I envision an instance where you, the npcs and some golems head underground to sabotage the weapons/machinery. The instance would require sneaking past certain areas, investigating equipment, finding ways to access secret areas, etc. all without triggering an attack on your party.

So as a player, you could have chosen to follow the Vigil, head into the facility (dungeon path), and deal with the Molten Alliance head on. Or you could have chosen to go with the Azurans/Priory to sabotage/deactivate equipment (solo path.) At the end, there is a briefing with Rox and Braham on the outcome of the two groups. Anyway you get the point; I’m sure the devs could have come up with something really creative.

I understand that resources are limited and there may not always be time to create two options for players especially if it’s temprary content. But just something to consider for future story content.

You were not blocked for the Torry Name. You were blocked for an overtly offensive name (crude sexual terms) in late January. And that was the warning you ask for now. You then chose several character names that are offensive.

If someone has a question about Jigga, it was pointed out to me that it’s an abbreviation for an extremely racist term and is not at all acceptable in our game.

Your characters must be renamed. Your display name will be changed. And you will serve the suspension because you have chosen four offensive names. You were not suspended because someone reported you. You were suspended because you chose offensive names.

Coming up:

  • Wait your time out.
  • Rename your characters.
  • For future names: Choose wisely.

not necessary to have an option to disable titles but why not make it like in GW1
the titles are shown like now but only when you move your cursor over the player…
so you dont have to click every person and read the tiny title but its still not annoying to see so much text everywhere…

Why I think you're losing active players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Drew.1865

Drew.1865

Reasons IMO:

1. Bad class imbalance. Balance of spvp and pve should b separate.

2. Condition damage is a useless stat in the state it’s in.

3. All content is a dps Zerg berserker gear only zergfest.

4. Boring combat system with supposedly bugged traits in some classes.

5. Wvw is totally pointless. You pay for repairs but are mostly getting a grey item toenail as loot or a few copper. The server that has the most players in the map always wins.

6. The dungeons are absolutely pointless and the bosses can 1 shot you and since the game uses a really bad combat system it makes the dungeons even more unfun. Sorry trinity is a much better system. Trinity is actually using a team of players where all members are important. Once you learned how to run past the trash in dungeons you could farm them and get tokens and almost always bad loot from them. Dungeon rewards are horrible.

7. No dungeon finder. Yes there is Lfg but it’s not ideal and every mmo should have the same features that other more successful game has on release.

8. The cash shop is horrible and there is nothing in it most players want. If the gems are what bring in the game’s revenue put the BEST and coolest cosmetic items in the shop. If players don’t like that then they should pay a sub. Sorry nothing in life is free.

9. The game’s rewards are horrible and make the replay of the content pointless. Why level an alt for no rewards (games combat system is bad so the cause it’s fun excuse doesn’t fix that for most players).

10. DR and the worst RNG. This game is basically a casino without slot machines or blackjack tables.

11. Until recently there was no reason to be in a guild and now the only reason is to do the guild missions and join a big guild. Anet offered nothing for small guilds. Main reason why my guild left the game.

12. The game community and forums are moderated very strictly but when many threads ask questions they mostly go unanswered.

13. Nerfs nerfs nerfs nerfs to loot and classes while buffing content.

14. Anet doesn’t use it’s own forum as the first place for news about the game.

15. End game is non existent and you can try to get a precursor for a legendary but the legendary requires gifts and those gifts require farming and grinding but they nerfed all the world drops so badly that by the time you might get something besides a porous bone you’ve been tagged by DR.

And the list goes on and on.

Is GW2 a game or a virtual casino?

Even though I like the premise of the living story I’ll admit Feb was slow on it, but its the beginning of the story. Personally I like how we’re seeing more and more refugees pile up in Hoelbrak, Citadel, and Lion’s Arch. It gives me the sense that something is growing.

I’m also one to talk with nearly any NPC I can find too.
I guess in the meta gaming sense there’s not much right now, but from an In Character perspective its more confusing than empty. Suddenly these areas are piling up with people, wierd stuff is happening up north, Dredge and Flame Legions working together, what the fricking heck?! That’s at least how I assume mine would look at it.

Hopefully by March or April there’ll be more of a face to it, some characters we’ll like or hate, and then things will pick up.

Problem is, “legendaries” are by no means a symbol of a player’s greatness as of right now.

Remember when our developers talked about “strengthening the core game”?
How’d that work out for us so far?

I just perceived that my level 80 mesmer received two level 76 exotic items for completing a level 80 zone (Cursed Shore) and after sighing and shaking my head I clicked on the Black Lion TP thing to see what I might get for these items at which point I perceived that the sell your stuff part of the TP wasn’t going to open for me, and so I logged out and proceeded to write this post.

I don’t remember if my thief got level 80 exotics from completing this zone (Cursed Shore). Maybe not. Probably not. Loot or the lack thereof wasn’t such a sore point back then; the game was still relatively new, my expectations/anticipations had not been ground into porous bone dust by the most stingy and at times downright hateful drop behavior I’ve ever perceived. My thief does have several level 80 exotic items, but not yet a full set of exotic armor, and only one exotic weapon: a named short bow that came from the Lost Shores event email (if I recall correctly) – stats are all wrong for my thief’s build, but whatever. I kept the thing and continue to use it because it’s the only named item I’ve received on any of my characters. It’s like a kitten Family Heirloom. ‘Cept soulbound, so I can’t pass it down… ahem. Most of my thief’s level 80 exotic armor was either bought from the TP or crafted (using gossamer mostly bought from the TP as well).

At this point my overall perception of Guild Wars 2 is that I will never, ever, get anything fun or cool in this game unless I buy it on the TP or jump through 50 million burning hula hoops while reciting the Sumerian alphabet backwards in Irish Gaelic over 9000 times (that being my admittedly hyperbolic perception of dungeon runs).

Such is my perception. Sunday, February 17th, 2013.

Ignorant rant that helps no one.

Wow, it’s like you didn’t even read anyone’s complaints at all. Rude.

People are complaining because they are receiving NO or SUBPAR drop rates in comparison to other players. We’re not talking “Go do a dungeon and make it rain.” We’re talking “Oh god, 3 silver to teleport to CoF? Maybe if we don’t wipe at all I’ll break even. Let’s hope the door is open…” They get greys instead of whites, whites instead of blues, and yellows? Hah. maybe once a month if you’re lucky.

Just because this isn’t happening to you, doesn’t mean that you have the right to be so kittening ignorant and have such a lack of compassion for those that are affected.

A Day in the Life: How Do You Play?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: arabeth.2361

arabeth.2361

Red Falcon: It’s my understanding that TP PvP is the only supported method of gaining gold in this game; anything else is falling behind/wasting time. Or at least, TP PvP is thousands of times more profitable, and the top 1-5% richest players made most of their money on the TP. I’m pretty sure “doing it wrong” means “playing the game” instead of PvPing on the Trading Post.

OP: Most days I don’t have time to log in (it’s nice to see others saying the same!). When I do, I usually have time to play one or two personal story missions on alts – that’s the main thing I’m pursuing these days. I’m really enjoying all the “Act 1s” from each race, and I’m trying to decide which I like best enough to double-up races so I can have one character of each class. (Humans have some of the best stories so far!) I’m also impressed by everyone who talked about doing dailies in 20-30 mins; that’s 1 to 1 1/2 hours for me, easily. Most days I get to play that doesn’t happen, since my max play time is typically about an hour. Sometimes on the odd Saturday I can get two or three, but I don’t have time to play much on weekends, either.

In the past, I’ve tried to focus on dailies, but when that takes about an hour or more and that’s 100% of the time you have to play, that becomes a very boring, very painful way to play the game quite quickly. (I’m a little sad that all this new, cool end-game gear requires dailies – but to be fair, I’m obviously not their target player for that gear.) I’ve also focused on other goals like: getting my main to 80 (yay!), completing the personal story (yay!), and getting all professions to 400 (3/8 so far). I’ve also tried making money, but that is equally as painful and boring since that pretty much means grinding Orr (gets old after a couple days) or TP PvP, which I’m spectacularly bad at (and thus, the game). I don’t usually have time for dungeons (also see: 1 hr max), and my fractal level is also 2. I’ve never had more than 30g in my life, and I’ve played since pre-launch.

All told, I’m having a great time with the game, although I’m undoubtedly playing it wrong. Sometimes I get caught up in the fact that I’ll never be able to afford stuff that requires gems or some of the cool end-game gear, and that’s a little depressing, but frankly I don’t even know what stats are particularly useful for pretty much any of my characters anyway, so it doesn’t really matter. And I’m in a great casual guild that is very fun, and I don’t foresee running out of interesting content for quite some time. My future goals include getting 100% map completion on a character, and running every dungeon at least once.

So.. if this were a party-driven, single player game...

While this presents minor suckage to everyone it probably fixed a major crash bug and for that I’m grateful. I do hope anet is willing to go the simple route here and simply lower the required counts by 1 for all affected achievements.
