I dunno….dont think TC has crushed our, (FA’s) dreams. Actually, I dont think we have any “dreams”. We pretty much like to kill people and break stuff…and we seem to be doing fairly ok at it.

WvW Match resets are not the same thing as new builds. We’ll have some updates to arrow carts to share with you when the next build comes through.

I hope you didn’t go overboard. Reality is showing the meta adjusting quite well to the changes. Tactics are adapting, people are taking time to do one of two things:

1. Clear the siege before you knock on the door -or-
2. Come to the forums and complain.

Towers are still flipping, keeps are still flipping. It’s not nearly as problematic as those who would refuse to adapt are going on about.

That is one hell of a route for scouting intel my dear friend. To go in there, stare at the group in there, don’t engage in combat while the other team attacks. None of us attacked even after being attacked. All we did was walk backwards and run away because we weren’t looking for a fight. I’ll repeat what I said earlier, only differently this time. Next time I see a small amount of people, whether they are looking for a fight or not, I’ll make sure to attack because guess what, it’s WvW and everyone is up for grabs. I’ll also ensure that you don’t return if need be. Fair enough? Side note: we returned numerous times, still not engaging combat, all in a row. Pretty sure that translates to anyone: they are not here for a fight. Maybe I’m just too considerate and think that others want the same things I do.

That’s what most of us expect 99.9% of the time in WvW. Sounds like you don’t play enough of it honestly — I thought this was common knowledge by now?

Just a pro-tip moving forward: don’t expect anything from your enemies in a PvP zone. They shouldn’t expect anything from you either.

Do you even realize that he wants the same thing as many of you?
i.e. for GvG to have it’s own separate official environment.

He wants ANet to either ban the players who are doing it, or announce that it’s “legal.”

We all want GvG arenas though.

It’s true that he’s a bit on the extreme side, but I think people who want GvG would get more value by using him as an example of the issues the lack of GvG is causing WvW, as opposed to responding with insults.

A well formed argument would have been accepted cordially.

He is just on a trolling rant against anyone who duels/GvGs in WvW.

He’s not interested in getting GvG added to the game. He just wants his version of justice for a group of people that he feels have wronged him… Problem is that he admitted to starting the fight in the first place. Not sure what he expected.

I fully support Guilds and players using WvW as a setting for matchups while there’s still a lack of ANet support on that side. I sincerely hope ANet has plans to add something like this, since it’s been asked for since launch.

Well TC is being super defensive about it. And it has gotten to be a game of tennis apparently.

I don’t see us being super defensive about it…but I see people like you trying to force TC into being defensive about it hoping for attention. So…please be civil, if you have nothing nice to say, or nothing about the MATCH itself…please…keep it on your own servers forums so those of us who read these to get match updates and see how the battles are going don’t have see teen drama.

The core concept of the necromancer is that yes, we are supposed to use our DS to mitigate incoming damage. Rather than avoiding the damage completely like every other class does, we’re supposed to just take it, but shrug it off because of our large HP pool and DS. The flaw that many people soon realize after playing the necromancer in PvP is that when you compare them to classes with blocking, invulnerability, invisibility, teleports, the ability to stack vigor, and other general mobility skills (swiftness is not mobility, its a speed buff, different mechanics) it falls way, way behind in terms of survivability and keeping up/away from your opponents. DS is fine for avoiding damage in PvE. Nothing ever hits hard enough for DS not to protect you there. Hell, it completely avoids the instant kill hit from Jade Maw. Sure, it eats all your LF, but you have tons of ways to generate LF in PvE, so that should never be a problem. It isn’t til you start doing PvP that you start to see the major flaw in its design.

In s/tPvP, its an extremely scarce resource for many builds, and you have to rely on other people to help you make kills to generate that LF. This is why people say that necromancers need support in s/tPvP. Every time you start a match, any LF you have is always set to 0. This leaves us at a huge disadvantage starting each match. Its also rather difficult to continuously generate LF, as it requires you to be in actual combat with players. Chances are you’re also going to use up any LF you may have generated during your fights just to stay alive. Its also possible for your LF to be gone the instant you use DS because of burst combos from certain classes. Sometimes they wait for you to use it just so they can burst it all away and leave you disadvantaged for a while.

In WvW, LF generation is a lot less of a problem because there are NPCs and critters you can go beat on to generate it. However, you’ll soon discover that the second you go into DS, it disappears almost instantly because of how much burst is being thrown at you (even more so in WvW than s/tPvP). I’m not even joking when I say a mesmer or a thief can burst all of your LF away in a single attack combo, and a warrior can literally one shot all of your LF with eviscerate or hundred blades. This is mainly why people have taken up the habit of “flashing” DS to use a single skill. Go in DS, use your skill, get out of DS before it gets eaten up. In Zerg vs Zerg, DS isn’t going to save you, because by the time you need it, its already to late.

This game is designed with dodging and mobility as its primary method of avoiding damage. When you then add a class that cannot dodge as effectively, and completely lacks the necessary in combat mobility required to perform adequately in comparison to the other classes, you end up with a rather lack luster profession. Seems like it might work on paper, but in practice, it fails to deliver up to expectations. This is mainly why necromancers are regarded as the worst roaming class in the game.

TLDR: DS is good in PvE and works great. Because of the obscene amounts of burst that other classes are capable of dishing out in PvP, plus our general lack of mobility, DS is a very bad mechanic is sadly holding this class back.

Wow, that’s the silliest thing said on the forums today (and there’s a thread about teabagging going on right now). If you aren’t racking up the WXP levels you’re going to be behind the curve IF they add new abilities. Your logic is umm…absent.

Fixed that for you… And at any rate I doubt that, even if new skills come by, they will give some upper hand in a 1v1 combat (which is the main reason these people played thieves).

They key is, there are a lot of different ways to play WvW that suit different people. Here a few options:

1.) Zerg – self explanatory
2.) Treb or Cata enemy assets (I really enjoy plowing down a wall for my team). This can be done alone.
3.) Scout – works best as a thief that can follow enemy zergs or report on status of towers. This can be done alone.
4.) Yakslapping (killing Yaks)/control points (The sentries with the flags on the map) – These can be done solo for the most part
5.) Ogres/Frogs/Dredge – either helping them to get them on your side or killing them so they abandon your enemy. This can be done with 1-3 person teams
6.) Defense – building siege and staying in defensive positions or running where needed. This can also be decent if you under-leveled b/c arrow-carting from the top of the wall is pretty safe.
7.) Attacking Towers – Requires about a 10 person team. Follow those more experienced
8.) Spamming seigerazor in enemy territory – This is one of my favorite. If you can get 10 people in a borderland where you control nothing, you can activate Seigerazor in your starting area. He gives a TON of siege for free and almost guarantees a free tower. This helps your team by hitting the enemy where vulnerable (if they control an entire map, they tend to get complacent. This pulls reinforcements away from the main battle).
9.) Trolling in the jumping puzzle – some people love doing this b/c it is nice fighting terrain. I hate people that do this, b/c I am terrible at the JP and just want to get the vista!

Players who run supply for repairs from camp to keep should get badges of honor.

its ridiculous that everyone is out zerging and getting tons of badges when this one person is not getting any because they are repairing walls.

What you should get is a thanks for helping pull the wagon. I’m not sure how they run things on your server but people naturally get on the job when things need fixing where I’m at, no questions asked, no brownie pins expected.

P/P Leveling Miseries.

I would strongly recommend taking 30 in both Acrobatics and Critical Strikes.
Critical Strikes has the +10% Pistol damage trait, valuable Precision and Critical Damage, and Opportunist is practically assured to trigger when using Unload, effectively reducing the cost by 1. If you’re lucky, you could actually trigger it twice in a single use.
Critical Haste used to be an absolutely amazing trait for P/P as well, but it was nerfed by half last patch and isn’t so great.
Acrobatics boosts Dodges and general mobility, which are you’re only means of staying alive with P/P. On top of that, it provides great options for boosting Initiative regeneration, which is vital to the Initiative hogging weapon set.
The remaining 10 trait points would be well placed in Trickery. Every time you Steal you get 3 more Initiative on top of being able to Steal more often, and you can take Thrill of the Crime to gain Fury, Might and Swiftness every time you Steal. All of which are amazing for the build. On top of that, it pairs extremely well with Acrobatics and the +Boon Duration.

As for skills, I’d recommend Smoke Screen. Negates ranged attacks, blinds any melee that rush through it, and your ranged attacks fired through it can trigger even more blinding.
ABSOLUTELY take Signet of Malice as your heal, coupled with the signet boosting traits from Critical Strikes. The nearly constant Vigor will let you dodge like crazy, combined with great Initiative recovery and Might stacks.
Even if you don’t find the need to trigger it at a particular point, the passive healing with Unload is great.
Also take Signet of Agility. Beautiful Precision boost when not in use, and more Endurance plus condition removal and all those other traited goodies when you trigger it.
If you took another signet and triggered all three together, you’d get 6 Initiative and 15 stacks of Might (roughly +26% damage), allowing you to absolutely destroy your target.

For armor, focus mostly on Berserker stats, with some others like Valkyrie thrown in for Vitality. Especially focus on making all Trinkets Berserker, since they scale the Critical Damage far better than on armor.
Definitely get some On Critical sigils for your pistols. Fire is a good one you’ll definitely want.

The main builds are Dagger/Dagger, Pistol/Dagger, Sword/Dagger, and Sword/Pistol. Of these four, only one is a non-stealth build. D/D and P/D can be condition focused. In fact, that’s the whole point of P/D. Then on the other end of things, S/P is purely physical damage.

1) Decide if you want to go into a stealth build. If so, then accept that you must use a Dagger in your off-hand slot.

2) A lot of people like the Acrobatics trait line. There’s something attractive in there for almost everyone. Also if you’re built around conditions and ranged combat, you’ll want to take at least 10 pts in the Trickery line for the Uncatchable trait (which drops Caltrops for free whenever you dodge).

3) Beyond that, it’s really up to you. Stealth builds will normally dip into the Shadow Arts trait line for some of the stealth traits. (Shadow’s Embrace is a great source of condition removal.)

4) If you want an odd build, the Venomous Aura trait from the Deadly Arts line is something to think about. To play it effectively, you’d have to devote 30 pts in Deadly Arts and 30 pts in Shadow Arts to get everything out of Venomous Aura. It’s certainly not your standard cliche about a stealthy assassin. Yet it’s a decent soloing build and remarkably strong when you can buff your fellow players.

5) Otherwise just experiment. There are so many different Thief builds that you have to find your own voice with the class. We can all give you advice, but only you will know when something feels like what you’re looking for.

(For reference, my own Thief is a S/P Venomous Aura build. At least on my server, we seem to be ultra rare since most people don’t become a Thief to be a group buffer. However I adore the build and we can bring things that no one else can.)

I like posts like these. They make me laugh.

Lots of people on FA run around in a ‘zerg ball.’ Lots of people on TC run around in a ‘zerg ball.’ Lots of people on KN run around in a ‘zerg ball.’

So what?

There are crews on TC that specialize in small-scale pvp that ‘wipe’ FA zergs. There are KN groups that specialize in small-scale pvp that ‘wipe’ FA zergs.

There are groups on FA that specialize in small-scale pvp that ‘wipe’ TC zergs. And, you know what? There are groups on TC that specialize in small-scale pvp that ‘wipe’ KN zergs.

At the end of the week there is one metric that matters: was it fun?

All of the chest thumping, whining, and revealing of conspiracy theories that is done just makes one side look sore. Sore loser, sore winner…. it doesn’t matter. Just sore.

To me, it looks like the week went awesomely well. One server FA started out strong and petered out while another TC battled it out and overtook the lead. KN had a quiet week but that’s to be expected (in my view) after a few strong weeks. WvW burn-out is a real thing.

I always find it interesting to watch the general “feel” of a server as the match progresses and how their morale holds up.
