Cattlepult update?

In Diessa Plateau is the famous Cattlepult. A catapult which launches cows and occasionaly players so they can reach a vista on a tower.

This is something that has been in game since release and thus it does not use modern game tech.
We aren’t launched from the catapult like the catapult platforms in LA, at Tequattle or in Orr. We get a loading screen and appear at the top of the tower.

I know its something simple, but since release I wished to be catapulted around the map by that thing.
It reminded me of orc-catapults in Warhammer AoR.
I know we got the tech now. We got these plattforms in several locations.

Could this catapult launch us as well?

I’ve paid a whopping penny and a half per hour for my gw2 experience thus far. If another fifty bucks for another expansion bumps that up over two cents per hour, I suppose I’ll just have to find a way to bear it :p

I honestly can’t even believe this is a conversation. More appropriately, I am very disappointed in the player base if the above concept is the general feeling towards expansions. This false sense of entitlement only negatively affects the game. Simple concept. More players = stronger game. More players = more revenue for ANET. More revenue = more content.

Just because people get the base game and hot free with expansion, that doesn’t mean there is an injustice to you. You paid for the exclusivity to play the game for the past x years. So while it might seem they are “getting more than you”, what really is happening is that you gained so much more than them.

My prediction: they’ll offer the game at a single price for everyone, veterans who pre-order will get a skin + character slot, veterans who order after launch will get the skin, and the base price will be less than $US50. I further predict that regardless of what they do, the forums will be filled with complaints about the costs.

I see the possibilities as:

  • Offer the expac at the same price to everyone. This is what they did for HoT and everything they’ve said since suggests they favor this model.
  • Offer the expac at a minor discount to existing owners. Based on the number of posts on this topic (and the umbrage, both hyperbolic and reasoned), I’m sure they are reconsidering this.
  • Offer an extra character slot or other account bonus for veterans. They did this for HoT pre-orders (after some kicking & screaming by owners). It seems likely that they do that again, without waiting for the kicks|screams.
  • Offer the expac at a lower base price than in the past. The core game launched at US$60 & HoT @US$50, so maybe they’d try US$40.

Lol and that’s the problem all blob mentality lol

Had a awesome commander the other night you know what he did with his rangers and Thiefs he gave them shared participation and had the thiefs and rangers hold the keeps, camps and towers while the zerg did there thing.

So dont give me that excuse.
WvW does not = blob

That is only if the thieves and rangers followed the instructions, many don’t. It is a universal truth, not everyone read chats, not everyone gonna do what you want them to do, not everyone gonna say yes just because you say please.

This is indeed a prejudice but this prejudiced is so happen built up by the numerous predecessor examples. Commanders are still people, eventually they got tired of telling everyone the same thing over and over again every single day., especially when the words fall on death ears and having to undergo losing battles. Commanders are not paid to please other players.

TS is not a requirement for effectively contributing to WvW. As a matter of fact a lot of people, myself included, do not join TS because of all the side effects that come with joining a public place like that. Screaming, producing all kinds of bodily noises, publicly sharing personal sexual fantasies, picking fights with other people on TS… No thank you.

In time every WvW player can learn how to play without using TS and rely only on map and team chat as well as the map itself. Essentially the only thing you will be doing if you follow a tag is to stick to it. No special philosophy involved there that would require explaining over TS.

We could get own EotM ultimate dominator title too. Of course i have only little bit over 190k EotM kills so i still would have some goal.

[Suggestion]Bring back the Trinity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

Trinity was awful from the first time it was used. It’s a boring way to think of a fight: each person comes in with one job and only one job & has to do nothing but that. In this game, it’s different because everyone has to take care of some of their own support, all of their own active defense, & mostly everyone has some responsibility for damage.

The reason chrono is preferred for tank isn’t just that it can control the mob(s), it’s also that it brings other utility, too (alacrity, quickness). Warriors are DPS & support. And so on.

The reason a lot of people like to stick to a meta composition is that it’s easier. It’s easier to put out the LFG, it’s easier to find people who can handle a single task, it’s easier to see if people know what they are doing. In static groups, people can (and do) have a lot more variation, because you don’t have to worry about finding people or knowing what they can do.

The biggest problem this game has is that too many of us are used to their being only one way to succeed, so we assume that’s true here, too. There are so, so many posts about the ‘proper’ comp, the ‘optimum’ build, where… that’s simply not true in this game — there are many comps that will work, many builds.

QTFY shows us that there’s a particular build that’s optimum for folks who can play optimally. That doesn’t mean such builds are best-suited for those of us who play sub-optimally.

Rauderi might be right that ANet isn’t doing nearly enough with designing (and redesigning) fights to take advantage of the system. But things are already far more interesting than they’d be under a formal trinity system. And we know this because top players can kill Sabetha with just pistol thieves.

With the new expansion, will Anet avoid HoT?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

What went wrong with HoT, IMHO, and should never be repeated:

For starers, not everyone agrees with you.

01. Pricing the expansion as the full game for players already owning the original game

See the 30 other threads on the topic — not everyone is bothered by this, and some welcome the influx of new players that identical pricing brings.

02. DLC worth of new content, not worthy of expansion name

I totally disagree that this is an issue. For me, adding gliding and autolooting completely changed my game experience; that’s plenty for an “expansion” for me.

I think the ‘problem’ could be better restated as “too much emphasis on mechanics and revamping systems, not enough emphasis on things to do, especially after a long content drought.”

03. Rushed and short story mode, with a really underwhelming final battle design.

Also a matter of preference. I didn’t find it rushed or short. I like the final battle.

04. Questionable map design, not the beauty of HoT maps, just usability. Minimap system is not enough for HoT layout.

Map design is awesome. I really like the maps, even though I have extremely limited spacial relationship abilities (partly exacerbated by dyslexia). The minimap has always socked for multiple heights — it’s a problem in e.g. Black Citadel, not just HoT.

05. Lack of new character slot for the new profession (remedied after an outcry from players).

in other words, they already addressed that for HoT

06. Killing the casualness of the original Guild Wars 2 in more than one way and thus making maps either extremely hard or right down impossible for solo completion.

Can’t agree with either statement. Maps are soloable (with a few exceptions) and I feel open world remains casual.

I’d rephrase it as “there’s no transition zone from core Tyria to HoT — you’re forced to deal with verticality and more intense mobs, even as you are working on masteries and just finding your way around.”

07. Nerfing the older content, all in hope player base will be forced to buy into deeply flawed new one.

I have no idea what this means, except that I disagree that ANet intended to “force” anyone to transition in the way you suggest.

08. Essentially killing off PvP with tying it to the expansion.

Maybe you mean the new specializations are too high-powered compared to the old ones.

09. Nearly destroying WvW which survival is still up in the air.

And how did they do that, other than not giving it enough attention for since seasons ended? Recently, they just released a huge patch that was mostly about WvW.

10. etc.

Can’t assume anyone knows what you mean here.

Legendary collections instead of grind?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Relic.2136

Relic.2136

I just crafted by first precursor after five years of playing, and I have to say I’m displeased. I know everybody out there who has several Legendary weapons doesn’t want to hear it, but I’d really love to see Legendary crafting change from mind-numbingT6 mat/gold grind to something more like the collections aspect of the precursor steps. I understand it’s difficult to implement stuff like this, and the system has been around so long it’s unlikely to change. Nevertheless, I’d personally much prefer a set of collections that took me through every dungeon path once, one that took me to each world boss, or some of the jump puzzles, etc., rewarding us for playing varied content without endless repetition. This could even be a way of reacquainting players with lore! You could have collections for reading historic markers or something.

I love the Gift of Battle coming from a reward track – that’s great! I don’t have to put on a podcast and grind mats or gold for weeks on end; instead I can focus on just playing my class well in that game mode and when the track is complete I can move on to something else! Gift of Exploration? Fantastic! More stuff like that and less grind would make me a very happy camper. :-)

Play versatility and dps meter's

I’ve seen people complain over a run taking a mere 2 minutes longer than they wanted.

Molten Boss Fractal Level 40 farm? :P

btw, as “Illconceived Was Na” wrote, we have quite a skewed perception of what players actually use. I guess the vast majority plays in rare and exotic armor, exotic weapons and green and yellow trinkets. I don’t like to say that because it’s a phrase that’s often used to just shove issues aside, but: create your own group, with like minded people, and enjoy encounters. Ignore the minority that wants to play safe by using tested and proven setups. I’m totally for experimenting. The problem I noticed is that most players don’t have the time, patience or grit to experiment. I would even join a random pug for challenge mode Nightmare fractal, and it wouldn’t bother me at all if we got wiped a dozen times. I think everyone in the group would learn something. I regret a bit not having started GW earlier. I would have loved to be among those who had to figure out fractals and raids by trial and error and failing a lot. That would only be possible now if you moved over with your gaming group from another game to GW2 and ignored everything on the Internet about best practices.

Unfortunately, in pugs, when you get wiped three times, the group breaks up. It’s sad because it ends before it can get better. People then try to join a group where they can be carried by others.

Play versatility and dps meter's

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Illconceived Was Na.9781

With the introduction of dps meter’s it is apparent that player versatility is narrowing, i.e. if you see a thief running dual pistols you immediately know they bring little to the table whatever game mode they are playing (pve/wvw/pvp).

I personally like dps meters though the gap between meta and “play the way you like” is a substantially large gap (not because people run nomads vs berserkers) it is simply that some weapon sets perform subpar.

In a perfect world I would like to see that, head to head each weapon set and weapon combination is viable either due to direct damage output, additional utility, cc, etc…

There are tons of “viable” builds; there are fewer “optimum” builds. I don’t expect that to ever change, because part of what makes those builds “optimum” is how they are played — better players will always be able to get more out of some builds than most people.

People tend to gravitate to builds posted on websites that are benchmarked with high numbers; that doesn’t mean that everyone (or even most) will be able to reach those numbers. We also don’t know what people are running “in the wild” — there was a dev comment (on Reddit iirc) suggesting that we have some misleading impressions about what people are using.

In short: the content allows for a lot more “viable” variations than build sites suggest, folks running posted builds don’t always get the high numbers, and we don’t really know what’s commonly run. In other words: there’s already a lot of variability.

Which is why I really would love to hear ANet’s actual vision/goal/purpose for WvW, since it is meaningless to argue if WvW should be casual or competitive, unless we know what ANet wants with the mode (or wanted).

This is the most important thing Anet needs to decide and communicate. The gameplay of WvW is still great but it feels like there is no direction to the game.

Does WvW need a lobby?

in WvW

Posted by: Yuffi.2430

Yuffi.2430

While EotM is supposed to be an overflow area for queued players it is however definitely not a lobby. A lobby should be an area where players can prepare, practice, stock up and search for groups. A lobby should not contribute towards participation because players in the lobby are not actually being active on a WvW map.

Following the PvP model, a WvW lobby should have areas to access banks, merchants, WvW vendors and crafting stations.
It should also have practice areas; PvP uses NPCs which would be ok but I’d prefer to see the DBL tower bosses in arenas that are a copy of their actual map setting. This would allow experienced players to practice and new players to learn.

thetoothpick.4028

WvW definitely needs a map/lobby that is part of WvW, but allows players to spawn in it.

A WvW lobby should have easy access to WvW merchants and map gates, and should let you still earn participation rewards (so you could chill before you log out without potentially taking up queue spots). It should definitely be separated into server (host & guest) lobbies so players can coordinate. Team chat should also work across the “real” WvW maps so you can see what’s going on.

Basically, it’d be a part of WvW without being on one of the maps, so you could let people spawn there.

Aaaaand a WvW lobby already exists – there was one during the Desert Borderlands Stress Test. I’d be super excited if they just dusted that off and let us spawn there.

PvE is not a lobby for WvW – not since the introduction of Megaservers.
I remember calls going out in the PvE cities for help defending in WvW. Occasionally you’d get “WvW – what’s that?” and a chance to introduce a new player to the game…

This has now gone.

I’d be happy with a WvW lobby, with crafting stations, mistic forge and the WvW vendors. Just like PvP there could also be a set of NPCs to test builds against – perhaps the DBL bosses? And small duelling arenas (just import the Guild one would do).

People simply love to complain. They will always complain and about pretty much anything in this game.

This current balance is what you get when people refuse to see the difference between DPS and burst, when they refuse to see a point in more complex rotations providing higher numbers, when they refuse to understand DPS uptime, when they insist on their class being the best choice for everything and many other factors.
