Another problem seems to be that allot of players prefer PVE in the context of WvW. I lost count of the number of times myself and maybe one other player chased of a zerg of 20-40 players by our selves from our keep gate or at the sight of an incoming zerg of 8 friendlies just to run off for easier pickings.

Everyone taunts PVEers but in my 2+ years of playing WvW it’s basicly players running around looking for someone to gank or an unprotected keep or fort to take. That’s way there’s such an imbalance in the servers, players running off to the biggest and baddest to be part of it instead of trying to build up their own server.

Granted the cheap transfers didn’t help, but WvW woes are player induced problems just like the imbalances between the different professions. Each class had their own unique flavor, strong in what they did until players started crying and moaning about balance instead of learning to adapt and now we have what we have.

Players are spiteful…. I remember a WvW post that said that said " We complained about balance because bad players were playing too good because of their skills and mechanics, now that everything’s been changed they don’t play anymore. GOOD!!!"

Look where we are now… I guess there’s something to be said about casual players. Have fun with that WvEers

For those of you who say that this is not how veteran players play this game, and that anet is out of touch, enlighten me as i have been playing WvW for years and there is nothing more that it needs then this golem rush.

I seem to remember the no white swords event. Everyone cried and cried about that and then lo and behold, the majority loved it!

So now we have an event just meant to be pure fun. I mean just plain fun. Don’t you PLAY a game to Have FUN?

So for one week its crazy and chaotic and different and people. are running around in golems destroying everything and anything. You have a choice, join us, for we are legion or, sit on the sidelines in a tower and watch. Or go do something else.

The thing that most people don’t realize is that this event has the highest potential of getting new players into wvw and increasing the amount of people playing. WvW desperately needs NEW blood.

So I would suggest you guilds capitalize on this and throw golems at every new player you can find and recruit recruit recruit. Meanwhile, rock some faces.

Unlike the vague "we want this and we hate that!’ people tend to spam, thinking they speak for everyone, my vocal minority statement is a verifiable fact, not an opinion based on believing everyone agrees with me. Saying “all of us like blue skies” and saying “the sky is blue” are very different. One is false consensus, the other is a fact.

The entire GW2 forum population is only a fraction of the GW2 player base.
The WvW forum represents only a fraction of the GW2 forum base.
The ‘vocal minority’ who makes wild claims based on the false-consensus effect are only a fraction of the WvW forum base. They are ‘vocal’ because, relative to the population base, they possess a high post frequency regarding a specific number of topics, and they are a ‘minority’ because they represent an extremely small % of the overall population.

But dont believe me, go and verify it for yourself! Count the number of unique names you see posting AGAINST golems in this WvW forum using a forum crawling script/bot (or manually if you’re insane). Then compare to the player base estimates. In 2013, ANet reports 3 MILLION box copies sold. Reports of 2014 guess around 4 million+ copies out there. Thus even if TEN THOUSAND people complained in unison about the Golem rush, they’re STILL a vocal minority, representing only 0.25% of the population defined by mathematics.

Or, ya know, you could keep nitpicking at my statements instead of realizing that the entire forum here is a vocal minority, including the two of us.

My original post was designed to provide forum goes with an alternate perspective, in the hopes that those who believe they speak for EVERYONE, might gleam some insight regarding their falsely held belief that everyone thinks exactly as they do. I keep mentioning false-consensus for a reason. I’m not trying to force my strongly held opinion on anyone, or claiming that my opinion is held by anyone other than myself, im simply putting it out there to be read.

I see a lot of statements in this thread going “ANet ignores all us Vets!” and “WVWers dont want golem rush!!”

I know its just a week but voicing my opinion on this cause when i dont they shove up other kittene ideas like this through our throat.

Well, You sure have no business trying to disingenuously claim you speak for all veteran players, so perhaps you should stick to voicing just your opinion, and not implying you speak for veterans.

I for one, have seen thread upon thread upon thread, and post upon post upon post, of veterans, claiming they didn’t care what it was, but they wanted to see Anet try some different things from week to week. Looking through your post history, I see you personally made similar demands, without offering specifics.

Now when they try some stuff just for fun, or to break the monotony, you, yourself, and others complain about, you complain about that.

Yep this will be a vacation for me.

I’m one of those that hate Golems. And Omegas should be removed from the game. Heck all superior siege should be removed from the game.

But I’m looking forward to this. Its just a week and it should be fun. I’ll personally be running around in a Golem the whole time.

In fact Omegas should be removed from normal weeks and have special events where they bring them back every now and then.

tournaments failed miserably. It brought UNHEALTHY competition to game and brought UNHELATHY mindset to people.

Not upset about this at all and very excited. People just need to relax and get some fresh air. I’m actually a bit surprised and concerned at how many people take the game as seriously as they do… Wouldn’t want to play ball hockey with any of them that’s for sure.

Others can do it but these 4 can do it all pretty amazing. My advice is to pick something you like playing, not something that’s the best. Can’t be awesome solo roamer if you never play cause your build is boring and lame.

I choose ranger not because its easy, but because it feels fun ;-)

Why shouldn’t conditions applying skills, in total, do comparative damage to direct damage skills? You declare it to be “stupid”, while avoiding any logical explanation to such a statement.

Not sure what the “lol” about cleansing is. Your making a few subjective statements, with no justification or explanation.

If your worries revolve around conditions, focus more on gear with vitality, as it absorbs condition damage better, while toughness absorbs direct damage better, carry better cleansing, and learn the higher damage condition applying attacks, and dodge those, specifically.

It seems to me, people run glass builds and cry when they take a lot of direct damage, and run poor condition removing build, then cry about condition damage. It is unreasonable to me, to complain about the game in the context of your specific build. If you want to be able to deal with conditions, build for it. If you want to be capable of absorbing direct damage, build for it. The least ration thing to do, is complain that they need to change the game around your build, that is an incredibly selfish mentality as I see it.

Echoing a myriad of teef discussions. l2p against stealth. If you get ganked, too bad. It’s pvp (lite); it’s not Let’s-All-Sing-Along-with-Barney-the-Purple-Kittening-Dinosaur-Play-Hour.

One shot? Be less glassy. You don’t get killed by GB if you’re not being too classy… I mean glassy.

You could have 26k health on a necro, and grenade barrage with grenadier will still down instantly. It isn’t the same regardless of the sarcasm.

Screens or it didn’t happen. Better yet maths. Please, please, show that a 26k health necro can be insta downed by a single engi GB.

While I was on my Survival Ranger, just after Gate Of Madness had taken our keep in Eternal Battlegrounds, I was standing around outside our spawn with a few other players. A few GoM were staring us down in the distance from the foot of our keep they had just captured and suddenly I was insta-downed as an Engi revealed himself in front of me.

With all Rabid armor, Rabid weapons and Dire/Rabid accessories, I had 3.1k toughness and 21k on my health bar. With Bark Skin, I would have taken 33% reduced damage while above 90% health meaning I effectively had 3.3k toughness. And I was one-shot from full health.

I don’t have screens, so if you don’t want to believe it go ahead. You’ll believe it when you get hit by it.

First, spawn campers deserve to carpal tunnel syndrome. That engi is a tool.

Given the current bug, I believe that if the engineer was full glass with the appropriate foods and buffs that each grenade could achieve a 1.8k average crit hit on a lightly armored target (see my earlier post). However, I have not been able to replicate those numbers. When I ran my engi last night in WVW, I was popping 1.4k’s at most and landing maybe 5 of the nades from GB for a total of around 4-5k. That’s within the same realm as other professions hit me for. The combat log would be interesting to see, and it’s a shame you don’t have it.

You got hit in the perfect scenario – immobile, unaware target. Consequently, a thief could have wrecked you in 2 backstabs given the same scenario. Insta-down in two back-to-back hits or eleven to fourteen simultaneous hits. Both happen before you can respond.

A bit late now that it’s been fixed but here’s a valid video showcasing what it was like in WvW.

There shouldn’t simply be any levels…

Just make everything lv 80 and level progress is: now you get Hero points, now you get access to rare equip… to elite skill, to first spec. line… second spec line… etc.

So that you can balance everything around one base, difference then would be the equipment tier, the number of skills and spec. lines.

Wouldn’t that have been easier? Just saying

Since the camera changes EVERYONE can now do it without programs or multiple monitors. It sucks when a large zerg attacks a tower with few defenders as all they do is build an ac outside gate or wall and destroy everything inside.

Add LOS , invalid path to acs or close the gaps between the gates so players don’t mouse through them to fire skills off. You’ve done it to just about every blink skill in this game. Example: I can’t even blink up steps in my own tower because invalid path.

Annoying cheap tactic it is but its not only acs that do it. Engies toss nades over gates, ele do same thing with some of their skills and even seen guardian lines inside our towers.

It is my honest opinion that the current process of producing superior siege is outdated, especially taking in the new system in context. You have to create them ONE at a time; of which it is pretty absurd. So it is my unfortunate assessment that wvw was not taken into account.

What would be some reasonable ways to tackle this?

To compensate for the harder to obtain shards, would it be reasonable to change the pricing, to say 1 shard for 2-3 guides, sell for badges, or allow it be possible to craft them— perhaps we could get some wvw specific crafting siege materials.

Do away with the paper seige and let superior take its place on the vendor for the same price since the reward is so little in WvW.

That would be my suggestion…and I do agree with you on this one :P

Added Note: Even when I was in my most noobish gear starting out in WvW the paper seige really just kind of tickled and wasn’t really effective as it should have been.

Another solution would be to do away with superior seige and bring the paper stuff up to superior standards and leaving it on the vendors.

The most fun I now have with this game is commanding in EOTM and achieving what Coyote wrote is more or less my goal. Sometimes I am more successful than other times as the quality of the PUGS is so random and I never have a guild group with me unlike the ever present HK guild. I can say for sure though that when our zergs get on a roll and start dominating the other colors, the team members love it, even if they don’t do WvW. This kind of action is what gives EOTM the potential to be a gateway to the real WvW vs. being a boring karma train. We just need more people to come there ready to fight.

It is the commanders like Elaina Eldee that ruin EOTM. Nothing in this game is as boring than a pure karma train and it turns people into welfare queens. They all want something for nothing instead of having to fight (earn) it. The attitude of those spoiled PUGs on mapchat is terrible too if they don’t get their free lunch.

What if, in an effort to promote server loyalty, you got rewarded for staying with your server? Like, for every X amount of hours you spend in WvW fighting for 1 server you get a reward, like a bonus to amount of badges you get for completing objectives, or a discount on siege blueprints? And if you switch servers, the rewards are reset, and you have to re-earn them with your new server. Nothing huge so that people who have been playing for a long time don’t completely dominate newer players etc., but just little bonuses to reward server loyalty. Just an idea I had.

There are always ways to compensate…for instance, debuffs and buffs. We already have a (lame-ish) Outnumbered Buff. I have said a few times we should have a “Overpopulated” debuff. Things like:

1. If you outnumbered your opponent by x% you have to spend that x% more in supplies to build siege, repair structures, and order upgrades. Up to a max, of course (say, double? triple?). So, for example, you have 30 people, the opponent has 10, You have a 300% increase (triple) in supply requirements. So siege that would cost 60 now costs 180.

2. The same calculation increases your opponents’ vitality and/or power, and also applies a decrease to supply requirements (maybe not as much).

3. It also applies a buff to all guards and lords and wall/gate HPs.

Note: these %s are for example purposes only. But it would be a good idea, I think.

A debuff wouldn’t be a good idea because then you would get people telling others to get off the map so that the debuff wouldn’t be applied. It would be better to re-visit the outnumbered buff instead and make adjustments.

My server was once in top three….now it’s at the bottom and dead. And I have to pay a ransom of 300+ gold or 20 bucks to move to a server that actually has people playing…only to have people/large guilds suddenly move over night. For instance, back when my server was hopping there was 1-2 large oceanic guilds so we had a night crew but NOT as large as the other oppositions night crew so what did those guilds/players do? They all paid the transfer fee and moved to the one that was winning. Right after these guys went, several large NA crews did the same thing. GG.

Here’s the thing, so i do happen to pay the ransom and move….what happens when the server I go to falls out of favour? Oh right, same deal that happened to my once great but now dead server.

Transfer fees were put in to discourage this but it hasn’t at all, if a guild and their hangers on decide to move…they do it, all them. This leaves whatever server they left to become dead.

Anyways, I used to absolutely love playing WvW but due to the drop of a hat transitory nature of the players here…I don’t no more. All I want to do is play WvW like how it was meant to play: map cap vs map cap instead of lil ol me vs 100+ players alone. Is that too much to ask for? So if not, can I have a free transfer pls? I am not going to drop 20 bucks every time a guild and their band wagoners get kitteny. :S

All I can say is that researching a server is pointless, you never know when a server will fall out of favour and be vacated. I seen it happen TWO times now so I am not playing WvW no more and that to me is disappointing.

Solution is either merge servers, free transfers, or give some sorta mercenary option (not eotm) for mist war. But I guess this won’t happen cus anet is banking on people paying the transfer ransom. Sorry, I won’t be paying that. 300 g to me is a month+ of grinding like a dog and 20 bucks? I rather spend that 20 on silly cash shop kitten instead.

This is why they have to do forced merged groups based on population density per time (and when), average size of guild entry, average “blob” size determined by player density mapping, PPT/kills based on a per-server record, etc., and merge groups of servers together weekly to create forced positive matchups. The glicko system is way too slow. My server is falling down tiers now due to a migration of the guilds like you explained, and we’re 3 weeks still in the same tier after ticking < 100 PPT and outnumbered against 50-70 man blobs 24/7 since the migration. It’s been a boring slaughterfest the entire time and the majority of the people I played with have since just left the game due to low morale. We’d also just transferred in as a guild because the same thing happened to our last two servers. Playing catch-up is terrible and overly-costly.

This way servers still have identities and will retain their communities, but server size will be irrelevant and the populations will stabilize and force people not to transfer aside from creating “home base” scenarios for guilds so that they are always together as a community.

EOTM "K-Trains"...

EoTM was supposed to be a waiting area for people in queue for a mist war map, right?

That’s the original intention of this map.

I think it’s about time ANET cuts the XP in half in this zone to prevent people from creating 3-way “ktrains” where it’s just a circle of PvE and no one fights.

Personally, I’d be happy with removing XP all together and doubling the WvW XP to promote more fighting.

I’ve been stuck in queue for EB for an hour tonight and I’m actually getting hate tells from people asking me why I’m ganking people. It’s just so bad.

Come on Anet, turn this back into a WvW waiting area where some actual pvp takes place. Not this garbage that it currently is.

This is consequence for not making the game challenge, fun, risk-reward and skill play. This is more evidence Arena net continue to ignore our problems- instead of punishing no-skill, they reward it more.

Is this more reason why i should mot invest in buying the expansion? To lose? To have a company refusing to give their customers a challenge, fun, risk-reward, effort and skill play? To have a company who put their customers suggestion last?

It is a patch before the expansion. Change is coming. It is up to you to decide if you want to pre-order or not. There is a reason for what they did. Sometimes I feel people don’t look at the big picture before they react.

Just do what Frankie says and Relax. Everything has a reason. They just didn’t change some formulas and say have at it boys and girls.

It had its uses pre-patch as hammer medi guards were quite effective with the trait. However, now that it fights for the same spot as Absolute Resolve.. well the placement really jacked it up more than anything.

You guys have ZERO clue how hard it is to balance a MMO. Every TINY change throws things off. And making huge changes all the time like everyone insists that its broken is silly, and just brakes more parts of the game.

In this new patch they had to rewrite ALL stats, and how the base game is played. AND how conditions are done at a base level. You people have zero clue how difficult that is to do.

Tell you what, instead of whining, you give new equations for all the conditions, with new stat base levels for players and gear, then modify all the damage coefficients for EVERY SKILL IN THE GAME including condition stacks and duration, and work that all out with EVERY combination of traits that are possible. Then after you have all that, work out every build setup versus every build setup and play style accordingly. Then test it against all skill levels that may exist for all players, with every play style. Do this with 50 people max.

Or, instead of that, you can test out as much as you can with a number of extreme scenarios, and do you’re best to make it balanced. Then dump it on thousands of ungrateful people so they can finish testing it, and then tweak it as they figure out what works and what doesn’t.

When they do internal testing, they don’t have thousands of players running tests. Live environments with different builds and play styles are almost impossible to balance correctly with only a handful of people to test them. Yes, sPvP is WAY more hectic, and PvE is way more easy because the incredible increase in damage. But those can be the hard to test without ALOT of people to try it all out. That’s why they release these builds and let all the people test it all out, and tweak it accordingly.

PLEASE be nice to them for once. They are trying, and they have a difficult time doing this. Plus they get to listen to A LOT of whining every time they make a change. ANY change. Be patient, and be constructive.

(I know most of the QQ’rs will keep QQ’ing, but whatever :p )

Guys it was all about Guardian bug which allow them to share every boon witn unlimited cap of allies affected. (quicknes from elite shout, stability to whole zerg with one shout, empower for everyone). It was fixed last night:

““Fixed a bug that caused some skills to affect more targets than intended.”

And yes ill post it in every thread because ppl are too lazy to check patch notes by themselves.

It’s worth trying this level of damage out for awhile, it might be preferable.

It seems insanely high now, but that’s partly because we’re so used to what it used to be. It’s quite possible that we’ll become accustomed to the new levels over time.

Although there might just be some broken stuff that needs some adjusting though. At any rate, it doesn’t warrant a knee-jerk response.

Lots of options for buffing shield and the shield trait. Many have been suggested, including by me earlier in the thread.

Shield 4 suggestions:
—Resistance Boon (5 allies; purity of purpose here: damage reduction)
—1 second Block for five allies
—AoE Chill
—AoE Slow
—AoE Weakness

Shield 5 suggestions:
—Blast Finisher upon casting

Shield trait suggestions:
—Move to adept to avoid conflict with Strength in Numbers
—Roll shield trait INTO Strength in Numbers by adding Shield CD reduction
—Shield 4 and 5 give Regen to five allies
—Shield 4 or 5 give Resistance to five allies
—Shield 4 Protection duration increase doubled
—Shield 5 Reflects Projectiles

Lots of options for buffing shield and the shield trait. Many have been suggested, including by me earlier in the thread.

Shield 4 suggestions:
—Resistance Boon (5 allies; purity of purpose here: damage reduction)
—1 second Block for five allies

Shield 5 suggestions:
—Mobile dome that travels with guard as it’s channeled
—Stationary dome with no channeling

Shield trait suggestions:
—Move to adept to avoid conflict with Strength in Numbers
—Roll shield trait INTO Strength in Numbers by adding Shield CD reduction

Add some AEGIS application to 4 & Taunt to 5 and I would be fine with any or a mix of these.
I suspect nearly every guardian would be as well.

Aegis is great but the only reason I didn’t mention it, and as I’ve said in a number of threads, in WvW Aegis doesn’t have a material impact in zerg fights. You could see it mattering in roaming or havoc fights for sure and in PvP but with an avalanche of zerg players spamming their 1 attacks, I suspect that Aegis won’t make much difference.

BUT it’s the kind of NEW FUNCTIONALITY — as opposed to a cooldown reduction — that I also suspect every guard would be ok with. So I’d be happy with adding Aegis too, I just think there are better flavors for the mix. Especially Resistance, Weakness, Chill or Slow for Shield 4 and Regen for Shield 5.
