I know there’s been hate directed toward the epilogue instance at the Dead End, but I actually liked it. Braham, Rox, Marjory, Kasmeer and Taimi are great characters and I enjoy watching their interactions. Their dialogue is well written and it was nice to see the camraderie between them.

I should clarify though; I was wishing for some explanation for Scarlet’s motivations or a few facts that would’ve made the overall plot make sense, but I knew that was too much to ask for. In short, it wasn’t a perfect ending but at least it preserved the good things about the living story (i.e., the characters that it introduced, minus Scarlet).

I do hope whatever content we get going forward, whether it continues to be living story-based or expansion based, that these characters are recurring.

I really love the rearranged Lion’s Arch Theme. It’s really sad at the beginning but turns into a theme of new hope.

I also like the atmosphere, the sun shining through the clouds and the calmness within the city.

I’m really excited if and when LA will be rebuild.

Because this is not Assassin’s Creed 1. Few publishers have the courage to dive head first into social discrimination and political issues. Much easier to stay safe and just make things acceptable and everybody gets along.

Hahaha. You can’t be serious? Have you seen how the Asura talk about and treat the Skritt? I swear I get the feeling that the moment the skritt start forming their own genius society to rival the Asura, rat blood’s going to flow in the Maguuma jungle.

I just wanna agree with everyone that the aftereffects are amazingly upsetting. During the Escape/Battle releases, it was insane how wrecked everything was, but it didn’t feel too sad—because there was a battle going on and we had to focus! But now, seeing all the damage in the cloud-covered ruins and especially the characters who are struggling afterwards is overwhelmingly upsetting. I also wanna commend that music. The scene would have a great impact regardless, but that music is beautiful and sad and blaaaaah. First time in a while the game music has given me chills.

When I logged in yesterday and wandered through LA a bit, I was hit hard by how much the aftermath felt like my personal experience with Ground Zero, and the actual losses that happened to me there. I eventually had to leave the game for awhile, as it still hits a bit too close personally.

Regardless, a big /salute to ArenaNet for nailing this part.

If I had any doubt before that people will kitten about anything, I don’t anymore.

Instead of bemoaning the death of a mass-murderer and some peoples stress-relieving comments, why don’t you put it your energy to good use? Complain about how the dead go so little attention at the graveyard. All they got was a little blurb on a piece of scavenged wood. There was way more people that died in the attack and occupation than the few who got mentioned.

People need to stop being such bleeding hearts. I have respect for the dead in truck loads, I do not have respect for dead murderers and psychopaths.

I typically let posts like these slide, but in this case I need to write something.

I’m sure that when RL tyrants, mass murders, violent anarchists, and vicious sadists are finally given their ‘just reward’, many of the victims of these individuals celebrate the tormentors demise in ways that are far less sedate than a (very) few jokes told in a bar.
don’t believe me? Do a quick history search.

In fact, it would have been out of place if the ‘scooby squad’ didn’t blow off some steam with a few comments concerning Scarlet’s demise.

I for one do not pity the character of Scarlet. She knew that her plans would involve the deaths of many, many Tyrians. It does not matter that she may have been driven to it. In the end she sought out death, and that is what she got.
See you in Torment, Scarlet.

How about a keyboard shortcut to thank/to be grateful to those who resurrect you, so we don’t have to type “ty” over and over again. Pressing the shortcut during the downtime or after someone ressed you.
I think this will work in PvE too.

Smite’s system is awesome too. There are a few prerecorded voice-messages that can be played by typing specific keys in your keyboard.

SMITE’s Voice Guided System (VGS) is by far the easiest, and most efficient way that I’ve seen to streamline communication in non-voip pickup game situations.. this is the future in solo-queue MOBA or any conquest style PvP, in my opinion.

Load all the ‘calls’ that players have to make on teamspeak typically, as pre-recorded voice recordings.

“Attack Middle/Far/Home”
“X Incoming Middle/Far/Home”
“Be careful Middle/Far/Home”
“Defend Middle/Far/Home”
“Gank Middle/Far/Home”
“Retreat Middle/Far/Home”
“Elite is ready”
“It’s a trap!”
“Group up!”

And of course small talk would be fun, too. IE: Sorry, Thanks, Wait, Cancel That, Yes, No, Be Right Back, Bye, Good Game, ETC.

This was discussed a long time ago on here and people were asking for a system which allowed you to use emotes like “Help!” or “All clear”. Coupled with the mini map this could work really well. The devs already said ages and ages ago this was a good idea and something they would like to do. But nothing ever happened on it so I guess it was forgotten, hence you asking the question again here

+1 for smite’s system. Simple keyboard combinations (V,V,A for example) will let a voice shout out crucial information for the team (“incoming Home”, “buff coming soon”), which is always better than having to type and read it in chat.

other than voice communication, there are a few things that can be done.

1.) Communications Rose (LoL, Battlefield games, etc.)

Usage: Shift and Hold Left-Mouse button on your mini-map (or rebind to a better key) to display the Communications Rose / Pop-up Communications.

While the pop-up is active, a player can mouse-over several commands that they can issue to the location clicked onto the mini-map.

For ease of use, 4 Commands would include:
– Attack Area
– Defend Area
– Watch Area
– Do Not Go to area

This would be pinged onto the map for 1-3 seconds and display a graphic to indicate what command was used (such as a Red X for the “Do Not Go” Command) with a small, not overly audible sound with it.

2.) New Player Icons

When a match begins, players can opt to display a colored circle around their class icon to indicate the type of role they are using.

- Orange Outline: Indicates the player is a primary Damage source for the team.
– Teal Outline: Indicates the player is a Control source for the team.
– Green Outline: Indicated the player is a Defensive/Bunker for the team.

(colors may vary)

Along with player icons, perhaps, the icon of the player should be greyed out when they are defeated (currently it just displays their normal icon, and it looks like they are just standing still according to the map, meaning you must check the party bars to confirm.)

2 other things to consider:

- Resignation: add a /resign function for teams to end a match early when in an extremely snowballed situation, requiring all members of the team to type the command to accept.

- Reporting: add the ability for a team to report a player for AFKing, with a possibility of adding 1 dishonorable to them.

- Match Start Delay / Pause: When in a 4v5 situation, allow the timer (if before match start) to delay until a new member can be substituted in their place after a 15 second grace period.

If a player leaves mid-match, allow the game to pause if all players currently present, (on the team with the disadvantage) wish to suspend the match by displaying a pop-up window asking the players. It will suspend for 20 seconds and attempt to find a replacement player, then resume regardless after the 20 second period.

What can the game do to improve communication between teammates in-game through the UI?

A ping system like league of legend would be a great start.

Smite’s system is awesome too. There are a few prerecorded voice-messages that can be played by typing specific keys in your keyboard.

Another idea is that chat messages of the team leader pop in the center of the screen. The team leader would be the player with the highest MMR in the group

Make it possible to somehow place an “X” on the map which would mean “go there”.

+1 for Juan.

We’ve got plenty of time before the match in solo/team arena starts, it would be a great time for a quick strategic planning carried out on the map itself. The leader could create a mark for every member of the team with a specific order attached to it so that all team members can see where to go and what to do.

A blue dot/mark = defend
A red dot/mark = attack
A purple dot/mark = attack and defend/hold as long as you can

Can I get some sort of title or other visible flag that says “I am a PvP noob”?

Or possibly something that I can switch on that automatically displays to my teammates/allies some objective measure of my experience – PvP hours or ranks or something. That way when I do show up nobody is surprised I’m still figuring the whole process out .

Proposal: Limit WvW to EBG during slow hours

in WvW

Posted by: Bertrand.3057

Bertrand.3057

When this idea occurred to me, it seemed like a very obvious one, yet I don’t recall having seen it before. As such, I’ll explain the idea, the existing problems it attempts to resolve, and address any concerns that will arise.

Bear in mind I use the term overnight to refer to the time in a specific region, recognizing that players come from different time zones and therefore are not necessarily playing overnight. I myself am a Canadian (guild leader, commander, scout, roamer) playing on an EU server.

The Idea

It’s simple: At a certain point in the night WvW participation on most servers drops off substantially. My guess is that this is around 12am-2am for the latest time zone in the given region (NA or EU), although I’m sure Anet has the hard numbers.

The proposal is to shut down WvW on all borderlands at this time, suspend upgrades and siege despawn timers, and consolidate all WvW players onto EBG. Limit the PPT to EBG objectives. Once numbers begin to pick up again, likely 6-8 hours later, re-open the borderlands. Opening and closing of borderlands should be set times, this could be done differently for weekends.

I’ll just add that this idea seems to me like something that should have been present since release (EBG is, after all, Eternal Battlegrounds), and that the issue of coverage is not one that is likely to be solved by the main ideas proposed (scaling PPT off-hours, merging servers or creating alliances). Despite efforts to make lower tiers more attractive, this is an issue that will persist if no targeted solution is provided.

The Purpose

At the moment, off-peak coverage in WvW is a huge issue. This is particularly acute during the overnight hours, when some matchups will see a single server ticking 600 or above. It’s detrimental to the quality of play, the accurate assignment of ranking, and to the competitiveness of many servers.

Quality of Play: Night watch and commanding is very different from regular play. During hours where WvW participation is low, much of the effort has to be directed towards scouting, quickly responding to any threats, and often predicting enemy attacks. This has to be done across 2-4 maps, spreading thin the population of all servers and reducing the amount of action that the players actually find. It can be very frustrating to spend a lot of time upgrading during this period only to lose an objective because of the difficulty of tracking enemy movements. When it is possible to go on the offensive, taking of objectives will often involve little more than PvD.

This change will remove the necessity of border-hopping, ensure that all players who are in WvW during these hours will be able to find one another easily to work together, and minimize the number of upgraded objectives that might be lost by an outmanned night crew. Even if all EBG objectives are lost, they are usually the easiest to upgrade.

Ranking: Because a night crew can have a much bigger impact on PPT than an equally-sized daytime crew, the PPT may not accurately reflect a server’s competitiveness during peak hours. Consequently, servers may find themselves in lopsided matchups, which reduces the quality of play because there is little to be had in the way of either even battles or difficult sieges.

This change will ensure that differences in night coverage do not severely impact the final scoring of a matchup and a server’s position in the rankings.

Competitiveness: The two issues described above have contributed to the most chronic issue in WvW: the steady migration of population from low tier servers onto high tier servers. Due to quality of play issues associated with overnight hours, the population of players who normally play during their server’s overnight hours find the higher tiers more attractive.

Due to the consolidation of “overnight” players into the top tiers, servers that lack this coverage will simply not be able to find themselves matched up against servers that have this coverage, even if they are very competitive at primetime. This can make them less attractive to play on, resulting in a downward spiral.

This change will give two incentives for overnight players to spread among all servers rather than consolidating on higher tiers: Firstly, they can expect to find more competitive play on other servers if there is a lower player cap at these hours; and secondly they will wish to avoid queues that may appear at the highest tiers due to the restriction of WvW to one map.
