Missing Dailies and Monthlies doesn’t set you back a terrible amount, but I’d argue that Monthlies are pretty easy to get done, even for the most casual of players if you put in a bit of effort to them.

Aside from that, I’m a little confused about what you’re saying here, are you saying items should be more easily obtainable without grinding? Its hard to balance a game for every type of player, you just have to accept that not all aspects of the game can be played by all people, but there is always a lot for you to do, and in most cases, I don’t think you really miss out on anything huge, usually just a title, minipet, or cosmetic item.

Its a shame about the 2-3 that disagree since they also have some site up about GW1 lore and are jealous of not getting the same attention. They should of said nothing and instead focused on delivering more lore to the community, now all I think of them is a bunch of attention starved jealous crybabies. Such a shame.

I agree with this and must say I strongly disagree with Konig Des Todes and Lonami. I think both individuals are confusing WoodenPotatoes role in the GW2 community as a ‘lore specialist’ when in fact his emphasis is community outreach. Since both are keen on backing up their claims, I will point to WoodenPotatoes many other video contributions (let’s plays, jumping puzzles, learn to PvP, and introductions to tPvP, and summaries of GW1 storylines) as suggesting that he is more broadly interested in keeping the community engaged rather than perfectly informed on the many details of Tyrian lore. I think a strong analogy is the difference between a Scientist and a Science Writer. The scientist is the expert that provides original contributions and knows the very ins and outs of their subject. Like an expert in a field, Konig Des Todes is claiming that many other lore experts are better informed on a particular subject than WoodenPotatoes, and thus they would be more deserving of an honor. However, that misses the point. WP does not claim to be any form of an expert (oftentimes admitting so in his videos). WP’s role is to disseminate any and all forms of GW2 knowledge to as many people as possible in hopes that the community stays active. Dulfy does the very same thing. She brings together widespread information and distills it into one easy to find place, so that users can share, discuss, and experience the game more easily.

If you want to argue that people who perform this task are not worthy of recognition you are free to do so, but claiming that WP has not contributed significantly to the community because he’s not lore-perfect is something I disagree with.

My suggestion would be that the popular YouTube Lore Guru WoodenPotatoes receives and ingame representation of his character, akin to Siegemaster Dulfy, in honor of his extensive work in summarizing the events of GW 1, making tutorial videos and his ongoing record keeping of the Guild Wars 2 lore.

For those who don’t know who WoodenPotatoes is, I want to direct you to his YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/WoodenPotatoes/videos?view=1&flow=grid

If you know WP, or just heard about his channel for the first time, and agree with this, please show some support to let Anet know.

I made a reddit post about the same topic beforehand and it got a lot of support basically in an instant: http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1k7tvx/petition_ingame_representation_of_woodenpotatoes/

About time to update the trading post?

Hello all,

I’ve been playing now for a few month after release on and off, and this is the first post I have made due to how frustrating this trading post is. In short – it’s far too basic and clumsy.

I think if we’re in the mood to sort out the wallet, we could at least be able to sort out the TP so we could search for armour by type in addition to slot and rarity. Let me filter heavy armour, or let me select to see only items that my class can use.

Let me search specifically for items which go into the back slot rather than try and find the name of some.
Let me search for skins I could apply without having to look through all the consumables because skins cannot be filtered

…and at an absolute push – and I’m not too bothered on this – let me search for items that have a specific type of stat (eg Precision).

Once upon a time there was a game called Dark Age Of Camelot. That was out years ago and you probably played it yourselves. Even that had a better system. The current one – well if it was my work – I’d be ashamed to have left it so basic for so long.

The fact you can only find certain items if you know the name of them goes to prove that point.

I love the extra content, but don’t forget that stuff you made to the standard of “It’ll do” could always do with some refinement.

I think a part of the problem why some people don’t appreciate new events in the old zones is that it’s not easily obvious that those are there and there are little incentives to explore zones again once you have the world completion. A lot of times when you go through zones no events are up near you or just the ones you already know.

If I remember correctly one of the events you are talking about is the event about the guild Modus Sceleris. I tried this event once, weren’t successfull and that’s it. It was awesome but I didn’t came by this area again.

At this time it felt also normal that the world was being expanded with events since it was exactly what Colin told us would happen. (I’m a bit sad that this stopped actually).

A suggestion how I would introduce new ways of going back to lower zones would be frequent field trips with a certain NPC which start in a fixed spot and lead to interesting places all around the world. You could then add this trip to the daily achievement rotation.

example: you go to the center of Divinity’s Reach where a NPC (orange dynamic event marker on the map) calls out: “the next field trip starts in 4 minutes”. He would then open a small portal to the borders of a random zone where you follow him to the start of one of gw2s longer event chains. People now can experience a chain from start to finish. While you stay in the orange field trip event marker during this long chain, you’ll get +300 magic find also, so that people have incentives to stay till the end of the chain + a guaranteed reward.

Some of these events also might be meta event chains which are forgotten by the community. These field trips start every 5 minutes in a known spot in the races home cities.

Funny thing is, a certain player on my server started to do exactly what you propose He simply stands in LA shouting “today at 8 pm we are doing tour through Iron Marches, we will take a look at fabulous Great Wall, battle ghosts of Ascalon and at the end we will take down one of the strongest Kralkatoriks minions”. Or something along those lines. I never actually attended, but this sounds cool. (Also hint hint you don’t have to rely on ANet to do stuff for you, you can create “your own story”)

Glad you enjoyed the story—thanks very much!

As for Rox’s, she’s unusually superstitious for a charr (or anyone else, really). A lot of soldiers are superstitious, but Rox was ahead of the curve before she survived the accident that killed her warband. Since she survived on almost pure luck (she was out of the mine when the disaster happened), she’s become even moreso.

Cheers, and thanks again,

Thanks for the feedback everyone and please keep it coming. Personally, I find that one of the hardest parts of being a desginer on GW2 Live is coming to terms with the fact that not every update will please every player. We do our best to deliver appealing content with enough variety to keep as many people as satisfied as possible. And If there’s one thing we can do consistently, it’s improving the experience of said content each time. I think we made some great strides with the Jubilee. I think we have a lot of room to keep growing. But our team isn’t done yet. We’ve got some exciting things coming later this month. Things you’ve never seen in this game before.

But in the mean time, please keep telling us what you’re thinking. We are listening. Not only to what you’re saying but also to what you’re not. The very first living world team actually did the thing some of you have called for. Some 40 or so permanent events were added around the game in our very first content update. They were met with little interest or fanfare. Granted, Halloween may have stolen the show. But those events are still in the game today. I’ve seen very little reaction to them, however, positive or negative. Despite this, there are many events I would still like to add. Many zones and bosses I would love to revisit. As we get better at the living world, I strongly suspect we’ll have room to get around to them as well. Assuming that’s what our players really want. You are all the second half of the collaborative process, so thanks for helping!

To be honest, I get what OP is getting to. But I don´t agree with him. I find myself enjoying this content. And like with every content this can be your or cant be yours. If you start leaving the game cause some things don´t go the way you want it to go. Nobody is going to miss you at all.

Other then that I don´t see the reason why you can´t come back later after things cooled down. I mean, it´s not that your characters will be randomly gone after not playing a while. Sure, you will miss out content. But hey, kitten happens mate!

You already payed for this game and you found it awesome. But at some point you stopped liking it because it didn´t go the way you want it to go. Take a break, they are listening to us. And bit by bit giving us new things

Not all new content is for everyone. Arenanet tries new things with all these minigames, and living world updates. If you don’t like some of it, skip it…..it’s OPTIONAL. Go do what you like. If you don’t like any of it, please just leave the game. The rest of the community won’t mind your absense, we promise. I’m happy with a smaller, tighter community. Please just don’t come back in 2 weeks and complain about the next update. It gets redundant. I personally loved the group arena at the bottom with all the bosses and loot!

If you have a legit concern that can be addressed, great…expecially bugs. That is helpful and constructive. The reason for the different currency is to reward the people who played that content. It makes some weapons/skins more “valuable”. To combine it all to one, kind of defeats that purpose, and I’m surprised that this is not obvious to everyone. I would like to go back and spend a different token on a jade weapon, but I also like the fact that those tokens were more rare. I feel more pride in sporting my jade weapon.

Also for those who did not realize this: Arenanet is making it ALOT easier to get a Legendary. They are doing almost everything but handing it to you. We get WvW badges from achievement chests. The new patch is an attempt to get players to play other dungeons so that everyone can get the tokens they need for their specific legendary. Dailys lets you get karma jugs, which lets you get Orrian chests, which give you shards and lodestones. Soon we will be able to craft the precursor. Laurels lets you get the mats you need or more shards. Karma is now account bound. All this makes it 10x easier to get a Lengendary now than before. You don’t need a large guild to do any of this….but if you do, you are allowed to join more than one guild! …and I would be happy to throw you an invite.

As a pretty casual player I have to say this is a lot of fun.

I don’t even approach caring about all the special currencies. You want all the currencies to be shared so that “casuals” can come in every other event and buy something, but take no consideration for that would mean for the non-casuals that horde thousands of the things. It’s not designed around casual play because that’s an asinine thing to do.

The balloons are silly, but really very nice looking. They add new events to areas that are in placed that expose players to yet more events. Also because the achievement actually requires going into no less that 15 zones to complete it, no one can just do it in a starter zone and move on. Everyone will have to spread out a lot in order to finish the achievement. This is a good thing for the game.

The pavilion is gorgeous, plain and simple. The arena under it is a little strange, but so what, it’s still cool. The only problem I have with it is how far down it is. I get the collapse was big, but did they seriously have to go all the way to the bottom of it in order to do that?

You’re not having fun. You’ve been around for a while and been a supporter and now you’re not liking it. Well I’ve been around since beta, and I’ve stuck it out. My whole guild abandoned the game too, but I am still loving it. Sometimes I get bored and only do just enough to get the daily, and sometimes not even that much. Then they bring out a new event and I’m right back into it. This one is no different.

I don’t understand why you seem to think this is Themepark. It encourages you to go to certain places, but it also encourages you to spread out. It also has no consideration with how you do it. It is still very sandbox. Perhaps you would be happier just moving on. They’re obviously not updating things with you in mind. Everything is still just fine by me.

Let me see:
- This achievement: kill 100
- That achievement: kill 100
- Next achievement: defeat 100
- Kill that 3x
- Get this 30x

Can you make grind more obvious…. I wont make any of that on purpose.

And this is where people fail to see the forest for the trees.

I’m already halfway into two of those kill 100 achievements. Why? Because I was grinding and trying really hard to get them? No, not at all. It’s because I’m running the missions associated with the new content, and simply by doing the content I’m automatically completing the achievements.

This isn’t a grind, you are getting rewards just for doing what you would most likely do anyway just by doing the stuff they made for you.

Even get 30 balloons can’t be considered a grind when all you’re doing is walking to a balloon, maybe doing an event associated with it, then walking up the stairs. There is no serious effort involved, just go do the thing.

Instead of going on and on and on and on about the “Manifesto” and what your personal ideals about what the game “should be”, why not just take it at face value? Most of your complaint is centered around stuff from a year ago instead of just evaluating the current content for what it is.

And if you don’t like the current content, don’t play it and instead go play the stuff you do like. And if there isn’t anything you do like, why are you wasting your time complaining here instead of finding some other game?

you posted this at 5am, and didn’t get a response for 3 hours, so you bumped your thread. It is now 8:30am… you need to give us some time to get here in the morning, lol.

I’ll alert our QA to this potential, and make sure it gets investigated. Any further information you may have will help.

It’s annoying that Developers don’t respond when players point bugs in this current Living World. For example, I’ve been QQ’ing on GW2 Forums because I can’t use the Tokens in Account Wallet to craft stuff on Mystic Forge.

We don’t reply to every single bug. More often than not we’re made aware of it, and then start doing something about it. This is something we are aware of.

I dont understand this complaint, lets recap. All playable races are represented throughout the storymode Dungeons. No one gets left out really. Lets move on.

Flame and Frost and the Razing. Basicly centered around the story of a Norn (Braham) and the Charr Rox. To the point their gear was specially on the gemstore.

Then we had Trehearne basicly the big commander and chief behind the whole fighting Zaitan and invading Orr thing in the Personal Story.

Then we had an Asura run and maintain the super adventure box. Wintersday was run by Trixx, also an Asura. And the Fractals, also an Asura.

Infact i cannot recall all that many Humans actually taking the spotlight. Marjory comes to mind, but that was a minor side-roll next to Kiel.
So, any accusations that all the big roles are being taken by Human characters is wildly exegerated, and simply not true. Infact i’d say the opposite is true.

Dye-Based Achievement System

in Suggestions

Posted by: katubug.6378

katubug.6378

As an avid dye collector, I’d love to be rewarded for the time and effort I’ve put into collecting tons of different dyes.

There could be multiple tiers of just account-based dye collections (Discovered X unique dyes!), but then also per-character records (Unlocked X Dyes on a single character). You could even split that by Race. The achievement would span the entirety of the ingame dye gradient, except for F&F dyes, which are largely not available to the average player. It would also be neat if there was an ongoing achievement like Agent of Entropy, which would count every dye unlocked on every character. I realise it’s not technically infinite, but I think it is potentially so if new colours are released, and it’s also stil pretty close, especially if you have 9 or more characters!

There could be a bonus achievement for unlocking a rare/event specific dye, such as the Flame and Frost dyes (this would of course only be fair if more event dyes are planned in the future). I also would suggest to make this a one-tier, one-dye achievement, to make it accessible to more players.

Just my two cents!

Player Housing and Guild Halls

in Suggestions

Posted by: Bunny.3081

Bunny.3081

The search feature isn’t picking up the old topics for me- so I want to show my support for player housing and guild halls.

Guild Halls seem like the more realistic expectation considering they’re in GW1. I imagine they’d just be fancy PVP maps with little customization so you can’t create obstacles that would break gameplay…but personally I’d prefer just a meeting spot where you could drag earned assets around (guild bank/vendor) and create some extra flavor with chairs/tables/rugs…

I’ve never been much for housing, but after recently playing other games with housing features, I believe ArenaNet could put their own spin on a housing feature: be it a personal abode or a shared guild hall.

But why add housing? How does it even serve a purpose in the game? Well, what is attractive to me is that the items you get to decorate your house can be rewards by doing almost anything in game. Take down a dragon? Plant its tooth in your Guild Hall. Kill the bandit king? Take his throne for your home.

Crafting, questing, leveling…and putting items in the Gem Store. It creates even more reasons and ways to play- and it gives you a physical representation of certain achievements.

Not that I care about all that- I just want to play house. But I want to play house in a living world. Invite them over for tea, light a fireplace karma buff, and then go on a hunting party for taking down veterans.

One of the excuses for no player housing I see a lot of is that adding housing takes away from people playing in the actual game world. And that if everyone is in their town putting up curtains and selling stuff through their personal auction house…that the game landscape is barren. But, considering you can repair/vendor/bank anywhere at anytime in Guild Wars 2…it really doesn’t matter.

That’s why instanced maps seem to make more sense to me…because ArenaNet might want to involve combat in these areas. Maybe your town has to fend off random events. Maybe every week a new peril strikes and you and your townsfolk have to take up arms against centaurs or Skritt. These townships themselves become mini maps to explore, and players craft cities on top of them…and around (or through) dangerous areas. Build your tower next to that Ettin cave if you want…but…y’know…expect Ettins to come to bakitten down.

Player run communities in the form of instanced towns is an even better substitute for hollow instanced housing- as an MMO, staking out a claim in the world and sharing it in a virtual environment with other people keeps you coming back. You spend ungodly amounts of time in this world- why can’t you have something that feels like you made a mark on the landscape? Even if it is just a replicated Kryta landscape instance?

I love the game and I feel the mechanics we already see in WvW could make for some interesting and unique housing or guild halls. Whether combat happens or not in these towns or guild halls- I think the idea is still relevant.

Anyway, this is just my support being voiced. I do remember reading housing/guild halls weren’t a feature to expect anytime soon, but I do encourage the pursuit of them…the fun quality-of-life stuff goes a long way in an MMO. It is why things like sports, polymuck, or mounts are so appealing.

And why people will buy Quaggan hats and play Super Adventure Box.
Semi-irrelevant fun stuff to mix up the gameplay is awesome. And I do think ArenaNet has made some great early progress in fleshing out these extra activities.

Guild Wars 2 Narrative Lead

Next

I mentioned this in another thread, but I’ll post it here for safety. We’re working on a system to direct people through the Living World (and other) content to address many of the issues people have in experiencing a linear narrative in a non-linear setting. This is something we’ve been aware of for a while but we’re now able to talk about since the system is being built. I can’t go into specifics just yet, but the long term plan is to provide players with a central mechanism for tracking content and having a better understanding of the stories in the game.

As always, thanks for the constructive feedback.

GW2 is doing a lot better than pretty much every other MMO that has been launched in the last 5 years. Noticing that doesn’t include WoW.

Aion for example, after a year of it’s life had already had massive server mergers and lost 9 out of 10 players from when it was new. I only managed to play that game for about 6 (2 of those months were just for vet rewards, I didn’t really play) months as a subscriber and another 3 or so when it went free to play.

Honestly people who claim the game is dead or dieing don’t have anything to base that theory on.

Guild Wars 2’s not losing steam. Anyone who thinks so isn’t around on patch days. There’s still a whole lot of people playing it.

It’s not a blockbuster with 7 million player, but then no MMO that’s been produced in the last 7 years is. Not one. So how do you measure success.

Everyone says Eve Online is successful and that has only 500,000 subscriptions. I’m pretty sure that more people play Guild Wars 2 than that (but I have no way to prove it).

Guild Wars 2 is doing fine. The people who don’t like it say it isn’t….but you can’t keep producing new content every 2 weeks if you’re not doing fine.
