The Never Ending Repertoire of Ranger Builds
Salt of the Earth {SALT} Crystal Desert© ~~Dragon Rank~~
(edited by ItIsFinished.9462)
Specific Game Mode
PvP
Proposal Overview
Hunters Shot turns into a second skill when it’s been landed.
Goal of Proposal
Make it more viable in PvP/WvW
Proposal Functionality
When Hunter’s Shot has successfully landed and the Ranger is Stealthed, the skill becomes ’Hunter’s Prey’ which allows you to transfer your stealth boon to your pet for a surprise attack. Stealth would then be removed from the Ranger.
Associated Risks
None that I can think of.
My other propositions – All under 200 words:
Master’s Bond Fix
Main Hand Axe 1-3 Triple Threat Idea
(edited by ItIsFinished.9462)
CONSUMABLES SHOULD BE SHARED
With Rangers’ high reliance on their pets for complimentary support or reinforcing their own chosen role, pets should benefit from any consumables the Ranger uses.
No Ordinary Dog Chow
Pets should inherently duplicate any consumable buffs their master acquires – when a certain percentage of Ranger functionality is expected to be coming from their pets, having the pet not benefit creates a clear disparity between Rangers and professions that operate as a single being. The current situation is equivalent to Warrior burst skills ignoring Power from food or a Guardian’s virtues not being updated after eating. Plus the image of a Ranger sharing a portion of his meal with his trusted pet is simply too cute to ignore. Submit to the cute. You know you want to.
Fluffy! Don’t Eat that!
While a straight copy of the consumable effects is both simple to understand and easy to plan tactics around, its possible that pets would gain too much proportional benefit due to the lower base values for their attributes. If this is problematic, a common scaling factor can likely be determined and applied. There are also a number of foods which have no practical effect when applied to an NPC (e.g. proc on dodge; magic find). There will be both favorites and less ideal choices that emerge from this change, which could cause a shift in Ranger eating habits .
Game Mode: PvX.
This short proposal has two Quality of Life Improvements for the axe weapon.
Winter’s Bite (Mainhand Axe #3). Make it a projectile finisher.
Reasoning: This would add a little bit more power/versatility to this weaponset which it needs. It is also a natural choice as a projectile finisher, as similar single-projectile skills such as the warrior’s Throw Axe are also projectile finishers.
Path of Scars (Offhand Axe #4). Add a 1/2 second cripple to the outgoing portion of the skill.
Reasoning: Currently, the pull effect from this skill (which occurs on the incoming portion) often misses since the target can easily move out of the way before the axe begins its return to the ranger. Giving a 1/2 second cripple to hit foes would allow the skill to pull more reliably, while still allowing alert foes to dodge/evade/get-out-of-the-way.
Edit: Also, in the text description for Path of Scars, add “Pulls foes when it returns”.

Because the level of flame-resistant protective gear required for a Dev to safely touch that topic requires longer to put on that the stuff the Devs hosting the other threads are wearing .
With the upcoming “how to fix rangers CDI” i figured i’d post the current working ranger builds for WvW. These builds are proven to work beyond a doubt. They are both focused on teamplay and DPS. Some are roaming builds, others are group/zerg builds.
Zerg DPS Frontliner;

Some more builds will follow later on
I wonder what breathe attack that drake will have… I hope it applies torment!!
Ehh, Since when is BM Bunker nerfed into the ground.
It was nerfed this is true, But if you’re thinking BM Bunker isn’t able to kill people very easily you’ve not been watching my updated Guides.
Spirit Ranger also cracks me up, Because I play a Venom Aura Thief, and that build is 100x more powerful in a solo and group setting then Spirit Ranger.
im not comparing ranger with other classes, i talk about the build rangers can use.
The builds we can use lets see;
Zerker Glass Cannon:

Didnt include Spirit Ranger because it is a billion variants of it afaik. The main thing is the spirits, which is like 20 into Nature Magic, and Condition damage for the burn procs.
There is many more builds, including special builds for guild raids and such.
Rangers have far from the worst build selection.
(edited by Prysin.8542)
Prysin, ranger are among top tiers dungeon proffesions??
Can you have more heal than a warrior with heal signet?? yes, you can, you must spend a lot of traits and gear only have more than 350hp/s, a warrior only must choose the signet to have 387 hp/s.
Another classes must spend 2+2+3 to have 7 we must use 1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1 to have 7 , why?? because this class traits/skills/weapons/class mechanic have ZERO sinergy compared with other classes, you must work x2 or x3 times to have the same than other classes have x1, and the question is, Why?
Urdriel, you are obviously not willing to give rangers a chance. I suggest you find some other profession(s) more to your liking. If you continue to play a profession without enjoying it, it will only bring frustration and anger, and i know from personal experience that more often then not, that frustration and anger spills over into real life.
If you don’t like rangers, don’t play them.
At this point, you clearly show you do not like them and you do not want to face the reality of what the ranger can do.
EDIT; healing signet is the most selfish of all things you can bring as a warrior. Wasting 30 points into a traitline to get 400hps healing, at the expense of not taking more group friendly traits is simply stupid. One player cannot change the tide of a high level PvE Content if all he/she thinks of is themselves. They will simply die if the team is not there to sustain them. PvE bosses have bursts so strong that the healing signet is useless.
(edited by Prysin.8542)
You stand there, I’ll stand here and tick 12k before you have time to defend yourself.
Bow = sniper rifle. Not semi-automatic. Find a good position, and ambush your enemies with sneak attacks, that’s how you play it properly. I wouldn’t mind some buffs, but honestly I don’t feel Ranger is underpowered the community is just too lazy to learn that kitten , kitten a bow isn’t a melee weapon…
Besides Thieves that can sneak up on you in stealth, it’s really not that hard to spot the enemy before they spot you and demolish half their health bar with Rapid Fire.
In short… We could use some buffs like trait re-organization or sturdier pets… But besides that any serious increases to damage would make us pretty ridiculous. Or well, the ones that know how to play the profession.
all i want and i think all what the two Balancer want are intelligent posts about ideas how to make classes more balanced or other cool ideas to make the classes more fun to play.
most suggestions i read in all forums for ranger (ofc not all!) were too strong. EB and BS at same time. Active effects of Signets for rangera without traiting. Enlargement gives u 75% more dmg.
maybe we dont get buffs because the balance team have the feeling we do not know what “balance” is?oh and gotejjekten pls feel free to read my posts on my profil. there is anywhere my posts in “the list of buffs” next to my QQ about the sylvari cultural armor change :P
They know what ranger want:
-Viable bow builds.( SB is really good for condis/control , and LB should be good for power/critical builds ), they nerfed shortbow range,Rate of fire ( but a mesmer can use a greatsword skill at 1200 range…., Anet commmon sense), and we need a trait to have 1500 range , a shoot from 1500 range can be evaded only moving aside., LB need a burst skill ( Rapid fire is not a burst skill).
-fix Pet AI
-Fix arrow trajectories ( obstruct, miss, etc.)
-Fix Pet f2 delay.
-Pet Stats must be affected by ranger stats.
-More control over pet skills.
- we should be able to use signets on our ranger without spend 30 points into markmanship as all other class of this game can do(you said, look, they are powerful, i say No, they have a really long CD we must MUST spend 30 points…..), ranger signet must affect ranger, and, if traited ,pets.
- we need better active cleanse skills ( our best cleanse is on wilderness XI, and is each 10 sec + our pet must be alive, one more time we need to spend 30 points).
-Ranger trait lines needs more sinergy between weapons/skill/traits.
No, we dont need a trait to reach all the way to 1500, the LB AA is bugged, and Anet has said the bug cannot be fixed without breaking the targeting system ingame. So if you use manual fire, your standard LB will hit around 1500, give or take 100 range depending on terrain.
Pet AI is tied to Monster AI, will forever be, because monster AI is programed with counters and actions against Pet AI. Thus to change the Pet AI, they have to change the counters to Pet AI within the Monster AI. If not, pets will be insanely OP.
Changing the Monster AI will make the game itself for all other professions much harder. Thus by fixing pets, you will introduce a powercreep.
The rest of your complaints, i pretty much agree with.
The reason of the “hate in the community towards the ranger class” is becoz ranger is underdog since day1. Ranger has been considered as a free kill for so long time, then once any viable competitive build appears, it makes ranger not a easy kill. “Lose to a ranger” is the biggest shame to other classes — that’s where the hate comes from.
Lol, that is the biggest pile of rubbish iv’e heard ina long time. Yes, nowdays rangers are much more challenging, but a year ago, before BM, Quickness and endurance regen nerfs (only BM was ranger only, so stop crying, the other professions got hit just as hard from Quickness and Endurance nerfs), the ranger was one of the most destructive professions in small groups. We still are, but to a lesser extent.
Negativity breeds more negativity, the doomsayers is what has ruined this community, not the nerfs.
Take a look at spirits, people cried and cried and cried because now their CD’s would start after the spirits death and not the other way around, and in the end, it turned out to be no biggie, it may even be called a buff. Same with healing spring, people cried so hard when they nerfed the duration but upped the pulses. In the end it was a buff.
Now empathic bond change is coming up, and people are crying their hearts out because now they will no longer be able to abuse a bug. Well sucks for you, but honestly, if you have to rely on bugs or a terrible trait to get by, then you got a L2P issue.
Shortbow nerf, oh so terrible, imagine the fact that one weapon can no longer act as a “do all be all” weapon. How gruesome, you only have like 4 other mainhand weapons of choice and multiple offhands. Apparently you cannot play a ranger anymore, and if that is how you feel, then play a thief, because a thief SB is more awesome then a ranger SB but with same range. Ciao.
There was the nerf to Search and Rescue, which was an unintended bug, however that nerf killed pretty much the only practical shout we had at the time. Protect Me and Sick’em still needs lots of work to be good.
Oh and let us not forget that the bleedstacks was removed from Maul. The whole weapon became unusable overnight, or so it seemed if you listened to these forums. Because apparently being able to do 20k crits are not enough unless you can apply 1100 bleeding over 6 seconds too.
Oh and let us NOT forget the nerf to Hunters Shot. That god awful stealth ruined the LB. And giving us Vulnerability on Rapid Fire must have been the worst idea since the invention of the public internet.
Yeah, by now, you should’a gotten the point. All these nerfs, while some worse then others, are by no means gamebreaking. What is gamebreaking is the poorly thought out utilities and the messy traitlines. that is gamebreaking.
i was doing some pvp today. i went to take the tower. i see a Mesmer and a thief i kill the thief first i turn around and the Mesmer is gone and my lynx isn’t by me .i thought it was a bug then i see 2k 3k going off down the steps. i go to help and what do i see its my lynx he killed the Mesmer by him self.. lol i was so proud of my cat i just had to come on and tell you guys about it anyone else have something like this happen? if so please tell what happened i wold love the story’s of are little friends doing good
(edited by trunks.5249)
Let’s say ANet adds pet skins to the gem store (purely cosmetic options for present pets), would you buy them?
What skins would you like to see in the gem store?
A few fun skins I’d like to see & purchase:
- mechanical/steampunk Raven
- pink panther (to Stalker)
- maybe pooh the bear skin for Brown Bear xD
You guys are fools….. There is only one reason why there are so much hate against the Ranger class…. and that’s because those wimps went up against me! HaHAH!! >=) All I ever heard was, “Too Strong Nerf Plz” after I repeatedly jump on their dead body
Alright guys, I see the discussion is heating up, just remember to keep it constructive and fact/opinion based without attacking each other.
I wanted to chime in on the longbow discussion happening, particularly with rapid fire, and say that even if numerically the skill is balanced, the perception of the skill is still the problem, because mathematically, it ends up working out that autoattacking does the same amount (or greater) damage, and every instance that rapid fire may outdamage autoattacking has been well calculated on the ranger forum and has come up with rapid fires damage being a near insignificant damage increase that requires that you use it at the exact time, aka, not interrupting an autoattack, otherwise, you lose damage.
That gets chalked up to being a weapon design problem, simply because a players perception is that a cooldown skill should be doing more that an autoattack, not just firing more arrows and doing the same damage in the same time frame (while adding vulnerability, which was previously on a different skill to begin with).
I don’t think anybody is intentionally asking for the ranger to be improved to the point where it is above a balance equilibrium. I think that with the longbow, players are simply requesting that the damage be less focused around sustained output, and instead, incorporate some more burst damage to improve the “flow” of gameplay and make the weapon “feel” more interesting to use.
Rapid Fire truthfully “feels” okay but numerically doesn’t perform how it “feels” like it should, offering a skill that only equals the sustained output but “feels” like it should be doing more damage in the time frame it channels in to provide burst damage, which is why many players are either suggesting numerical increases to damage, or an entire re-functioning of the skill.
I also believe that mathematically speaking, either of those changes is entirely justified.
Every time I see a ranger ask for pets scaling off our stats, I cry a little inside..Its like they don’t know they’re asking for basically a huge nerf to themselves.
OP’s post gave me brain cancer. So painful to read.
I will tell you a tale. Season 1 started in WvW, so i wanted to try out that gamemode. Tried necro and get frustrated how easily i get catched. So i get on the bandwagon, buy some pvt armor and some food for my warrior and ready to go. Standard 0/10/30/0/30 build with gs and hammer. I go out, towards Briar, 3 enemy heading to me. A guardian, a necro and a mes. I had no idea what to do, just hammered the necro, one shoted the poor mesmer and slowly get down the guardian too. I could pull of a 3v1 and winning it without knowing what the hell im doing. Or when i managed to outrun 7 enemy and even a thief couldnt catch me. GS is op.
What you should learn from this lessons?
1. Learn to play dude.
2. Healing sig alone not OP, but that package called “warrior” makes it OP. Atherakhia summed up above me really well.
ps: stop trolling in these forums pls
I can just see it coming one of these days.. the future of the ranger class.
“We have decided to change the perceptions of the ranger class, and focus all the ranger damage into the pet. For a long time the pet was thought to be a burden, and now it will be the key to your success. To support this changer, the ranger has had all his attacks and evasive utilities removed. The ranger himself will take up a purely support roll from here on in, with all of his 1-5 keys adding various buffs to the pet.”
“.. Unfortunately, there are no plans to change AI at this time, or introduce gear scaling for the pet. We’re going to see how this change goes for a year and then decide whether we should add a separate heal for the pet or a tied-to-ranger evade.”
And then, in the coming months after..
“We have come to understand the dangers in WvW zerging of the ranger class essentially having disposable drake bombs and suicide assault pets available every 40 seconds. Now to accommodate for the recent pet changes in terms of balance, the pet swap cool down will be increased to 120 seconds. We believe this change will encourage the skillful use of pets and encourage more rangers to use their f3 key in major battles.”
Ranger Armageddon is coming, one way or another.
That wouldnt happen ever, as that means they have to change the AI to make it happen. Not to mention rebalancing all pet stats.
Imagine birds with the stats of a full zerk ranger. They would make backstabs look like a joke.
The spirit’s buff actually persists for 10 seconds after the spirit dies, so your math is incorrect.
Evade back with a crack of lightning, blinding nearby foes while removing Chill, Cripple, and Immobilizing effects on you and gain vigor.
Blindness: 7 seconds
Vigor: 10 seconds
Evade: 1 second
Radius: 240
Range: 600
Breaks stun
Lol. OP “I rolled a warrior! I should be able to kill anything! If I can’t beat something, NERF IT TO THE GROUND!”
Omg, so funny. Poison, Interrupts, Stuns, Condition Cleanse, Vulnerability, many ways to deal with such a build. Unless of course your build contains none of these counters. In that case, you are your own worst enemy.
Good News.
I have also “a” question about a specific gameplay Option for Thiefs:
Are there any plans to reward a more engage fighting without using stealth for thiefs, especially? Because it looks like, the last changes in acrobatic line didnt get that much efficient results.
Mystic Forge recipes need to be introduced that allow folks with a surplus of one type of ascended crafting material to turn that into a type that they are lacking (with an appropriate loss ratio incorporated of course.)
Example: Don’t have enough Dragonite Ore?… but have more Bloodstone Dust and Empyreal Fragments than you know what to do with?… Combine the two you have along with some component(s) purchased (with skill points and/or coin) from Miyani and get a random, but smaller, quantity of the resource you’re lacking.
Some other relatively expensive components could be incorporated into these recipes as well such as Ecto, Crystalline Dust, Orichalcum, or others…
Something along this line is desperately needed to correct the imbalance of ascended crafting materials for a great many folks whose playstyle and/or playing times prevent them from accessing the content needed for acquiring certain materials.
Because ascended crafting materials are account bound, there is currently no feasible means by which players can address any imbalance in the 3 base materials. (Dragonite Ore, Bloodstone Dust, and Empyreal Fragments.)
i am not enis, i am his friend xD enis is snoow
Ah you tricked me with your similarities and quotes, HAX!
Legacy of Foefire
My team there was a ranger with a longbow that claimed he was Legolas and he would defend Helms Deep at all costs. He never stopped patroling on top of the wall during the entire match. Truth be told, they never brokee into “Helms Deep”, but they never needed to since it was basically 4v5
best moment
Me as a thief managed to get a Charr warrior downed in a 1v1, I pop stealth to stomp him and as I was mid stomp, he comes up with this:
“Atleast look me in the eyes before finishing me”
(edited by Quickfoot Katana.8642)
looks like…omg i need to spell his name…voldemort
the 3rd male face is really really cool
now that you mention that one of them looks like him, I just made a new Necromancer Sylvari, whose name is “My Name Is Taboo” just so I can use the Voldemort Face.
Mesmer is going to be op
WvW Coordinator
probably because i prefer function over form and action over talk i really don’t care about how functional improvements are presented and if it is done in small batches or big. It also sounds like devon isn’t willing to drop his pet projects and direct his resources to fixing wvw’s big problems which is something the wvw community was ok with under habib.
Chris has called you out on things before, and now I’m going to do it. This is not acceptable for these threads. You are not engaging with the discussion, you are not proposing solutions, you are instead using this as an opportunity to berate me, my team, and the studio for the direction we are taking the game. You are making serious extrapolations about things with little to no actual information. The decisions we make in terms of what projects to work on and when they get released are made with the interests of the game as a whole and the studio as a whole. No one person is working on “pet projects” as you term it, we are working on the game.
Please be respectful to all of us and contribute to this discussion, if you are going to continue to post in this thread.
