Misty Red Rose
“Why spend 5 or more minutes trying to down one when your drop is going to be crap. Now if that champion had their own unique weapon, and if there was even a slight chance you might get it, no champions would ever safe, and you would never see any walking around while groups of players run around then. Ever. Anet?”

Yup pretty much this, did 3 bosses in Orr last night, nothing of any use or worth dropped from anywhere and the chests were just rubbish. Nothing at all worth over 1 silver, and nothing of any use to my class.

It’s just a waste of time, and it took 2 or 3 hours to do, I don’t know what the problem is with giving us decent rewards for putting in some effort, I’m not saying it wasn’t fun, it was, but what a disappointment to get nothing.

Players will just quit, and once they’re gone it will be difficult for Anet to get them back.

The games been a struggle all the way through to get anything half decent, there are weapons and armour I would like, but it’s an insane mindless grind to get them, and there’s no other way to get them but to grind for 100’s of hours, the same thing over and over.

Jumping puzzles, love them or hate them, I hate them. Thread killer.

What kinds of things do you miss from GW 1?

Well, I have not played GW2 since Nov. 13th, ( I had over 300 hours in it) but if GW had z axis and a trading post, it would be about perfect.

What did I miss?

Heroes.
Hard mode.
Dual professions.
Free travel.
Lvl cap @ 20.
Interesting storylines.
Easy to get BiS gear.
Loot that was worth something.
Gwen. (Kerian never got her in MY story.)

In GW2, Guild halls would be hard to implement due to the multi-guild system. Loot will not improve due to the cash-for-gems-for-gold system. (And I actually thought that was going to be a good idea…..) Heroes will require large instanced areas. (Not like that is a bad thing.)

Vytality- Guardian
Vyt Mindbender- Mesmer

Here is what I miss from GW1

Skill, build and fighting related :
- The huge skill diversity and number
- Secondary professions
- Skills independant from weapons
- The ability to change attribute points at will for free and to save templates
- Interrupt skills
- Seeing what skill the foes are using
- Elite skill hunting
- Elite skills feeling elite
- Rangers without pets

PVE related :
- Boss drops
- Actual drops from monsters
- Elite zones like FoW or Urgoz
- Bigger groups

UI related :
- Point and clic to move my character
- First person view
- Moving and resizing every piece of the IU at will
- Changing the order of ALL the skills in my bar and still having the number corresponding to their place in the bar
- Not having a “works for everything” key. I hate it when I want to pick up a drop or rez a player and the game opens a chat window or try to rez a stupid NPC

Holiday related:
- Free hats at all the holidays events
- Wintersday gifts that drop nice stuff like candy canes instead of trash
- Halloween event based on fun and not about how many gory/scary stories can the staff think of
- A real epic madking says !

Last but not least armors for female warrior that allows you to look like a female instead of a keg. Please.

6. Add a direct peer-to-peer trading system.
I know you’ve stated in the past that you expect players to use the Trading Post and the mail systems for this, but let’s be honest, they don’t perform the same task. P2P trading is in virtually every other MMO (and even in games like Diablo 2) that I can think of, and with good reason: sometimes you want to trade with one specific person, and you may not trust them. The TP doesn’t allow you to trade with individuals, and the mail system relies entirely on trust between both parties. Yes, it’s possible that people will be scammed with a P2P trading system, but that’s already happening to people who rely on your mail system to do this sort of thing. This feature needs to be added.

7. The achievement system needs work.
Daily achievements are just about spot on, allowing players to experience whatever content they want without feeling chained to anything. Monthly achievements, however, do not perform this task well, often asking players to do things that they hate. Considering we have a multitude of achievements for all of the different stuff in the game to “encourage players to try new things”, I don’t really see why we need monthly achievements to perform that same duty, especially when monthly achievements (like daily ones) have specific rewards attached to them. And speaking of rewards, please make these achievement points have some value! Perhaps the best approach would be to make them function like the HoM from GW1, where certain levels of achievement points unlock special armor and weapon skins that players can use. This adds further diversity in players’ armors and weapons, and gives players a reason to push for more achievement points beyond having a bigger number on their account.

8. The personal story suffers from the same fatal flaw as Nightfall’s storyline: you’re not the hero, you’re just the sidekick.
There’s a reason that there is such massive hate for Trehearne across the internet, and people joke about him and his sword “Saladbowl”. The personal story starts out with you as the focal point of everything, raising you up as the great hero who will take down the dragons….and then after Lvl 50 or so, some skinny plant guy shows up and starts bossing you around. Whether or not you like him as a character, one thing is clear: the personal story doesn’t feel like it’s about you nearly as much after he shows up.

I don’t know if this is a flaw that the team can actually fix at this point, unfortunately, but it’s a lesson that can be learned for the next storyline. Make sure that the expansion focuses on the player, putting us at center stage as it should be, and doesn’t focus the narrative around somebody else.

9. Guilds need more love.
And this can’t be stated enough. It’s understandable that functions like guild halls and the like aren’t in the game yet, after all it took GW1 a while to get some of this too….but other things are missing that surprised me. For example, the ability to appoint a new guild leader if your current guild leader is absent for an extended period (or banned) should really be automatic, yet I’ve not heard anything about such a feature being there. Also, it’s possible to accidentally remove leadership privileges from yourself in a guild….shouldn’t that sort of thing have a “are you sure you want to do this?” window attached to it to make sure you don’t accidentally demote yourself? And the amount of guild “swag” (armor, weapons, etc) is still pretty lacking as well.

10. Loot tables are still out of whack.
When I kill anything above a normal level mob, I should get rewards. Veteran, Champion, or otherwise. Yet I continue to get more rewards from standard mobs than Veterans or Champions. I don’t know how this continues to be a problem but it needs to be addressed.

NOTE: From here on, I’ll be getting more picky and poking at some of the smaller things that aren’t by any means “game-breaking”, but are still things I feel need to be worked on.

Dyes need to be made account-wide.
The given excuse for why they are not account-wide is, honestly, not good enough. There is no sense of “progression” in expecting players to buy up dyes to this degree, and many of the more bitter players feel as though it’s a move primarily designed to help increase Gem Shop sales. I don’t feel like I’m progressing my character at all when I’m trying to locate any one of the 382 available dyes in this game, I feel like it’s just one more thing I’m expected to grind for. This is a minor thing for me, but it’s also a simple thing that would greatly increase character diversity at low levels if I could roll a new character with rare dyes that newer players won’t have. And that sort of diversity is always a good thing.

Remember when our developers talked about “strengthening the core game”?
How’d that work out for us so far?
Now let’s try some ideas that will really work.

Translating the translation:

I am writing to you because it’s snowing here in Russia. I’m using Google translator. I have played with my guild since release (10 players(I guess?)). At the start, it was said that there were not the standard three archetypes (tank dps and healing) and each profession can be a healer and a tank and DPS, as the player chooses. But in reality, the only way you can play is to DPS.

I love playing healers, those who protect others. I like to play a tank, the one who stands strong through attacks and monitors the battlefield. But here I do not have such opportunities, contrary to the developers statements.

I tried all the profession as a healer, even a thief. The most productive were Engineers and Guardians. But even they are not able to heal the incoming damage received by others with their abilities. Most healing abilities have a range of 600 feet. As a Guardian they also effect only 5 players (shouts for example). How to play my healer, I do not know. I have become uneasy when asking for (party-wide?) healing, but currently there is nothing useful. I rolled over and shouted and used a staff and mace attacks, used aura, everything except dancing with a tambourine. The range of heals is too small and the power is too weak.

As a tank, I found that my armor did nothing against conditions or most regular damage. For example, a shield should increase protection. The amount it increases, at 61 def +90 from skills (for a total of around 150), is not enough. There is a block ability, but I’m sorry, the cooldown is about 30 seconds and blocking last for only 3 seconds. Why does a shield have an attack? Why not put in place more defense? Why not give it a property with a certain chance to block damage? And why, when blocking with a shield, does it works in all directions? Does a warrior’s butt reflect attacks? I am a historian by profession and I do not remember a single battle where a knight bent over and saved his kitten from a blow aimed at him.

Control abilities are strange and weak as well, only working for a very shot time, then on a long cooldown. Now I am against a player being able to lockdown or fear a player forever. But, if the player has decided to play as a controller, give him a chance, let him do his damage but put in a system of diminishing returns (Diminishing returns system is well done in Warhammer Online, for example).

Why not allow a combo field to have tangible protective properties (that last while standing in it), or to give a significant increase in damage?

To go over my main points again, heals being too weak, I can not heal. As a tank, I can not maintain control without dying. But being a DPS I can kill. It’s not fair.

One more request. Do something with the gate to the keeps, they are like cardboard. Yesterday it only took two of us (I and some other guy) to capture the fortress, it is not normal.

My guild (Imperial Guard) focus on pvp. We spent dozens of hours of tests and inspections in attempting to deny that this combat system only has room for DPS, and have now took a break in the game.

Please do not let the game die. Many good games started to fail because of their developers and their unwillingness to compromise.
With respect Anton Alekseev.

Hi Mike, I also have to thank you for nice answering in this topic. I would like to, too, ask you few things and maybe bring up some points and hopefully constructive feedback.

In this topic there was already some discussion about not leaving WvW if one does not want to. I’m one of those. Here is few things why this does not apply in my opinion and I hope your team would take these things under consideration.

Loot
- Ascended gear is not available in WvW at the moment if I’m right. That thing I think is clear to everybody that it must change.
- WvW loot is nothing compared to PvE loot. You could say that you never get to loot anything worth wearing or worth money compared to PvE. I have never looted anything exotic and believe me there’s few hours I’ve spent on the WvW fields. I’m not actually even sure if we can get exotic loot from WvW. I’ve looted rare loot about 10-20 in these past few months since prelaunch.
- Loot droprate is too low. We don’t usually get much loot and if we do it’s almost 100% sure crappy gear/weapons/crafting materials etc not worth much money.
- Loot quality is too low.

Money
This thing should too be clear to everybody.
- When we die we must pay repair bills. In WvW we die a lot more often than in PvE excluding instances. There is no “instances” in WvW as there is in PvE to get much money. It is always same steady, low, income.
- Upgrading. Upgrading costs a lot of money. In WvW you just can’t get that much money to pay the upgrading bills. When we use few gold to upgrade our stuff it can be overrun and all the upgrades and money spent are gone forever. We must start upgrading again which again costs too much.
- Again loot. When we get some money from loot it is not enough. It is enough to pay repair costs if you don’t die too often but it is not nearly enough for upgrades. Even when selling all the junk we get.

WvW money – Badges of Honor
- If you are not huge dps class you will not get enough lootbags. If you don’t get lootbags you don’t get badges. When you get bags there’s too rarely badges in it.
- Badge items are expensive. They cost a lot of badges which are very slow to get.
- When you finally have enough badges the badge items are monotonous. Always power/vitality/toughness and no other options. That type of gear is suitable for only minority of us.

I don’t know what the patch in february includes but I think culling is the biggest concern in WvW at the moment. These things are smaller but still very important to change in my opinion. Are these things above in your knowledge? Are you going to change them in the patch? At least some of those? Are you going to bring these things up in one of your meetings?

I’m sorry about the negativity of this post but I thought these thoughts would be good to be mentioned in the thread finally getting attention by mods.

Gold is the main issue, but you have to be careful, I and many other WvW’s do not want WvW to be easy money. If it becomes that then it will attract the farming variety of players and it will degrade WvW.

easily solved, upgrades should never have required gold in the first place. Badges are the wvw currency so why shouldn’t wvw upgrades use wvw currency? Of course badges drops need to be reviewed of course and adjusted accordingly.

It needs to give you enough to play WvW and stay in WvW and be able to pay for upgrades. Right now as it is its hard to stay in WvW and pay for upgrades, you can do one but not the other easily. Siege aquisition is fine as I can do the jumping puzzles to keep stocked in siege without paying out.

gold, we are forced to go farm PvE to pay for upgrades and siege to run at full power. so Money is still a problem, no way to pay for the siege and upgrades needed. we use like 250+ gold each week, usely running out quickly and using more.

wow this is the sort of communication people love thank you Mike!

I think it was Colin who stated in an earlier interview (during development) that people should never have to leave WvW if they don’t want to. Do you feel that you’ve met this goal so far (or was it a misinterpretation on my part)?

You’re welcome! Things have been really busy around here since we shipped, and that’s a big reason why we haven’t had a chance to communicate nearly as much as we’d like to, so we’re trying to make an effort to change that. We want to talk to you just as much as you want us to tell you stuff

As far as being able to play just in WvW and never have to leave if they don’t want to, that most definitely is our goal, and I think we’ve done a fairly good job at that so far. We do need to make sure ascended gear is obtainable in WvW, but other than that I think we’ve mostly made it so you never have to leave WvW if you just want to play there forever. Feel free to point out why I’m wrong about that

Why is there so much empty space along the borders of every map? Nobody ventures out there except for bots looking to be unnoticed.

In my opinion, spread the bases further to the sides of the map. It would make each map seem larger too, and more battles would take place between points.

% of classes that on average play WvW

List top players re kills / to death ratio

I would love to show the percentage of particular classes that play in WvW at some point, but it isn’t part of our current plans.

Kill/Deaths ratio is something we would like to avoid having. We don’t want people changing the way they play because they would rather protect their KDR instead of helping their allies in the game. We want people playing and fighting, not worrying about deaths impacting their stats.

KDR only causes the same problems as repair costs already cause. Many people, including myself don’t like to help others in many situations because we worry too much about the repair cost. There’s no point in trying to fight or help others so much of the time because it only ends up in a repair cost for myself – it’s the same thing with KDR, I would get another death on the counter – yet that would still be preferable to repair costs, in my opinion.

Edit: By the way, thanks for answering people’s questions on the forums – I don’t see enough posts like yours. c:

Sure, I’ll spill dome details!

I’ll try to work my way through the thread and answer what I can while I’m throwing food in my mouth during lunch before I have to scurry away to more meetings, sorry if I don’t have a chance to answer everything (because I likely wont be able to).

- How does siege despawning work?

Unbuilt siege sites that are placed by players will go away if someone does not bring supply to them within 10 minutes. Anyone that adds supply to a site should reset that timer.

Completed siege weapons will despawn if they haven’t been manned for 30 minutes.

Why do we have to do this? Each weapon takes up some small amount of resources on the server because we register a few pieces of data for each weapon in the field. One thing we absolutely cannot do is remove the timer entirely or else we have a situation where someone can put down a ton of weapons that could potentially be around forever (or until matches reset) and it would start to cause bad things to happen to the server. We also use some placement restrictions to help prevent there being too many siege weapons on the field, I’ll explain those more in the next question.

It’s admittedly not an ideal system but it is something we are required to do to keep the game running as smoothly as possible. We’d like to make it more obvious that the weapons have some sort of despawn timer since it is a completely hidden mechanic, but we don’t have a way to expose that timer to players yet.

- Do we have a siege limit? If so, what happens if we cross it?

There are two basic hard limits to siege placement.

There is a limit to how many siege weapons can be placed within a certain radius of each other. We tried to set it to be fairly lenient, right now you can set 5 weapons (sites or completed weapons) within any 1000 unit radius. If you try to place a new site somewhere within a radius that already has hit it’s limit, the placement will fail but you should still have the weapon bundle in your hands so you can try to place it somewhere else.

There is also a hard limit to how many weapons can be placed on the map. This map limit is a bit harder to explain as it is based on some internal concepts that don’t translate well to laymans terms, but basically anything that is not a ram counts towards one ‘limit’ for the purpose of this explanation and each team can have up to 100 of these types of weapons out at any time per map. Each team can also have up to 100 rams placed on a map.

- How many players can one map contain?

As many as we can fit without causing too much stress on the servers. We can’t be more specific than that, but I can assure everyone that the cap is definitely split equally between all three worlds.

We have heard multiple reports for months about people being queued for a map and entering it only to have the outmanned buff, but unfortunately we’ve never been able to verify ways that could be occurring. I’m not saying it isn’t happening, but we haven’t ever been able to reproduce the problem, and if we can’t reproduce the core problem, it makes it basically impossible for us to find and fix the bug

However one of the main purposes in official forums should be the release of the patch notes mainly, that is the only thing what many people come to check most of the time, atleast thats their intention if they get their answers or not is another story.

As someone who also got posts deleted, I actually made a thread trying to discuss the “blurred lines when it comes to rules”.
The mods mods were happy to discuss before they abruptly closed it… but it boiled down to; – CoC is down to whether mods are having a good or bad day, and ,it doesn’t matter how many players that claim they’re confused…they shouldn’t be…because the CoC is there.

CoC is half solid, and half free-form. So unless you post a pre-warning “Please don’t close this thread straight away” you’re more likely to get some discussion out of the community and mods before they decide to close it.

Reddit is better only because these forums are not very fair in it’s terms. Even posting in THIS thread may get me another infraction, because i’m stating an opinion that is indifferent to them. Tbh, I also think this thread will soon be unfortunately closed.

I’m mostly talking about limitations on ranger traps, engie mines, minions, turrets.
Main issue is that they don’t deal enough damage / die too quickly with is pretty much: “we did it so people stop asking for them, but we don’t want players to actually use them, because it would require balancing”. Mines especially feel like new Smite Boon.

Feels like if they really wanted to give us fun abilities to fight opponents with, but some Morello-like guy walked in and said “no fun allowed”.

Someone ever played original gw1? Trap ranger was actually viable build and it was really fun to play. Same for spirit and minion builds.

I think it’s really big loss to the game if all combat is limited to face-to-face combat.

My second point would be knockbacks:

This is small one – why we can’t utilize fall dmg against mobs? At least normal ones. This game isn’t designed to be hard as nails, why are we denied ability to knock things off cliffs?

The only thing that’s happening here is that you got some poor harassed support line worker written up. Well done.

I just want an apology for an unjust ban

Was unjustly banned for “selling gold” yesterday. They restored it today and all I asked for was an apology. Support won’t give me one for some reason and told me come post here seeking one from the devs.

Can I just get an acknowledgement that an error was made and that you’ve corrected it and that you will do your best not to let it happen again in the future? Is that too much to ask?

note to mods Support specifically told me to post here on the forums where most people will see it so I am*
