For those of you that are on the fence about upgrading your OS from Snow Lepard, you can go here: http://roaringapps.com/ and do a check on your applications to see how compatible they are with the more recent OS’s. I myself checked out my CS5 master suite, Lightroom 3, and several other programs prior to upgrade. And have not thus far had any issues with Lion (10.7.5) and can now play the game again. But it would be prudent for anyone considering upgrading to make sure ALL of your software will still work with what ever upgrade you decide upon. Do I miss Snow Leopard? Yeah, expose was nice, and I don’t honestly care for the “mission control” way of doing things. But at least everything still works.

Oh.. and one can just upgrade to Lion, or Mountain lion by purchasing a license from Apple and downloading the upgrade from the “app store” once you get your key via email. They cost $19.99 each FYI. But remember you will also then after upgrading, again have to bring some of your other software up to date (for me it was 7 apple applications such as Itunes, and security updates).

Anyway, good luck to those of you on the fence about doing an upgrade.

Honestly… GW2 has too much emphasis on shatter builds for my personal taste. Though I enjoy my more celestial phantasm build, its lacks in DPS considerably compared to a zerker shatter build. It is though very adaptable for changing conditions (jumping from zerg, to solo, to zerg again). Just not as effective for either, but more a jack of all trades.

Just make commander icon’s account wide, and let us choose our colors so that we can command more efficiently. This way multiple commanders can coordinate their efforts with minimal confusion.

Hmm.. when I remember starting to play Mac Beta 10.6.8 was fine and dandy. But that was over a year ago, and no problem then. Not sure when they “upgraded” it to 10.7 though.

As someone that’s main is a mesmer… I find the idea humorous, but not really practical. I honestly dont use moa that much for WVW. As Mass invis is much more useful in many situations. Moa is mostly a solo mesmer tactic… vs 1 or vs more than 1. If you are involved with a group or zerg dynamic then mass invis is much more useful elite skill. And honestly as a Mesmer, Travelers ruins kinda beat all other ruins to the dust. Speed is so important it’s not even funny.

Yeah.. I played DAOC for many years. Still consider it one of the best games out there for large scale open world PVP. It’s terrain allowed for different tactics depending on which zone one was fighting in.

Just curious how many others would be interested in having the maps topography changed to something a bit more challenging.

For myself I would love to see the BL’s be different and unique rather than repeats of themselves. I know some would complain that this BL is easier than another, but it would help make the wvw in those zones more dynamic. I would love to see topography that allows for terrain challenges for wvw.

For example I would love to see one BL as a rolling hills with heavy forest (enough to block out name tags in some area’s) so that folks could use the woods as a means to hide zergs moving through them. Something like the Redwood forest would be really cool, with tree forts and rope bridges between some structures.

Another example would be a BL with mountains and canyons with bridges crossing between area’s (think Tibet for example). And tunnels through the mountains, with mountain fortresses and underground area’s to fight in.

Another example would be a BL for water fights (I love them, though I know some would disagree with me on that viewpoint). I seriously miss the water fights in and around quaggen island in the BL’s. This BL could be a series of islands with a few bridges, and underwater cave entrances to allow for marine tactical fights.

Anyway.. these are just a few idea’s, and I just curious if others have idea’s for alternate topography for WVWing in. Please post idea’s if you have them, or reasons why you would be interested in the same boring topography we have today if not. Thanks for everyone input in advance.

Yeah…. for me it’s that lack of advance warning that they are updating MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS for playing to the point of invalidating older OS’s. Even 2 weeks notice would be enough for many of us to order 10.7 for 19.99 (as I did last night) and get our systems upgraded to allow for such. Though I still have to wait for email “Key” from apple to arrive (likely early this work week) before I can download and install 10.7.5 to play the game again. Also giving advanced notice would allow some to find some work around such as a different partition with more than one OS, or picking up an external drive to load game/newer OS on as a personal option. But no notice in the middle of the weekend kinda kicks us in the nads for those of us with limited or restricted playing time.

Within the Asura Storyline you will come to a point where you witness a lecture. And during this one of the speakers gives out the following speech:

Cepha: An exhasustive study of Tyrian physiognomy lead me to derive what I call the Cepha’s Constant.

Cepha: Namely, said race’s importance as a factor in the Eternal Alchemy.
Cepha: Asura scored highest, naturally. Then, in descending order, we have sylvari, charr, human, and norn.

Now whats interesting about this speech is that what they are referring too (mass of body to brain size ratio) was actually mentioned recently in a NOVA part 1 of 3 special last week as an interesting hypothesis about animal intelligence. I mention this link for those players who might wish to see how game dialog may be similar to some essences of reality, when one looks at the science.

Mind you the Nova special is about real life, and not in game life. But all Asurans in game understand that they are naturally superior to the other lesser races. They just can’t help themselves <grins>. Either way… have fun what ever race you are playing.

Oh goody, brand new problem.

Thanks to the update I can’t play the game period. The update requires OSX 10.7.5 or later. I’m running 10.6.8.

I know that technically we’re supposed to run 10.7 for the game, but up until just now running older versions worked just fine.

So, note for all older mac users: 10.6.8 is no longer a usable OS. Gotta go buy a new one.

You can upgrade to Mavericks for free.

The problem with Mavericks is it does not work or causes several issues with many older applications. So if you have several hundred or thousand dollars invested in software that’s not compatible with Mavericks, upgrading to it is NOT and option. But you can still purchase OS 10.7, and 10.8 at the Apple Store (for 19.99) and check compatibility with older applications like Photoshop CS 5, etc.. at roaringapps.com. This way one can check to see what they can safely upgrade too, without invalidating an older application they have on their Mac’s.

For me personally I had to purchase OS X 10.7 and have to wait to get the email key from Applestore to install it before I can play this game again. As I only have a few older applications that are not compatible with 10.7 (ones I rarely use now). But I start having issues with 10.8 and later for some expensive audio editing software, so that limits me at present (until I purchase a new macbook pro this summer/fall). And I cannot play GW2 now on my current 10.6.8 system until I get my email “delivery” of 10.7 from Apple.

The biggest issue I have with Anet on this, is the lack of prior notification to mac users of the mandatory change to 10.7 on this patch (before it was optional). A week or two heads up for us would have been really helpful for those of us using older OS’s to prepare for a patch occurring in the middle of a weekend.

Sadly Mavricks would force me to update over $3500.00 in software that I can’t afford to do right now. I did check a free compatibility table for 10.7 at Roaring Apps http://roaringapps.com/apps Where you can type in your app name to double check it for compatibility for OS X updates. I just did so, and will be able to upgrade to 10.7 for my Adobe Master Suite CS5 (just not 10.8, as there is a problem with Soundbooth). Also MS office 2008 wont have issues either. It’s a few of my more specialized older apps that wont transfer.

Oh.. and Nageth, thanks for the idea on creating a partition, too bad I am playing on a macbook pro with only 500 Gig space on it atm. Though after checking compatibility it looks as though I may upgrade to 10.7.5 as its going to minimally impact my other software after all.

Though my biggest prob, is they not letting us know in advance of the change so folks could prepare.

Yeah.. this patch forcing one to update there OS was really not a good move folks. Some of us cannot update OS because it invalidates other software on our machines that costs a hell of a lot more than GW2 does (such as older professional image and audio editing software). You just now by applying that patch pretty much said goodbye to me as a client for your game. And doing so without warning folks ahead of time.. <sighs> Really, what is this lousy customer service in game company’s the last few years? I just don’t get it.

DAOC has/ had these things…that is the reason that this game has them!

I remember several events that had things popping up in the frontiers bringing extra people out, not to mention there were TWO major PvE+RvR dungeons (a whole expansion revolved around one of them).

Mostly popular, because there were no queues and no real overcrowding.

Not sure what DAOC you played.. but it sure is not the one I left a little over a year ago to come try this game out. Frontiers was just that… open world pvp fighting. No PVE events distracting folks from taking or defending keeps/towers.

But that’s not the point of this post, its about the problem of introducing more PVE to WvW when most of those that I WvW with (on SBI) wanted much less. Its causing many of us that only do the WvW for pvp in this game (and not the silly arena stuff) to look at alternative games. Many of us only go to PVE zones to farm mats for acended gear, etc.. not for fun. Our “fun” part in this game is fighting other players on an open world pvp zone (wvw). And not being distracted with more PVE silliness while we are out there. The sadly ironic thing is… if Anet focused on WvW for the WvW zones they might get more players coming to play this game that enjoy that style of play. But by throwing in more PVE in WvW zones they are actually pushing us away.

I honestly think the devs do not understand the primary player-base that plays WvW in this game. If they understood us… they might consider suggestions we have made (such as NEW borderlands maps that are DIFFERENT (and not identical) with challenging terrain to fight in (deep thick woods with tree-forts, high cliffs with rope bridges, etc.. ). And or differing keep designs that offer different tactical challenges to attack, and defend with. But its like they don’t listen, or don’t care. And that apathy is also what is driving many of us away.

Well my solution is this.. As I only enjoy WvW as a WvW player and not as a PVE’er I am simply looking for other ways to spend my time (and not playing this game nearly as much). The PVE in WvW has a direct negative impact by changing the dynamics of tactics out there. More PVE out there also gives those of us that prefer only WvW less of a reason to play the game. Those who claim “good riddance” to those of us “die hard WVW’ers”… really are just loosing those of us that tend to be more skilled and experienced with tactical large scale PVP game-play, which ends up cheapening the experience for those who remain. I am seriously considering going back to DAOC, as at least there one does not have to deal with constant PVE interfering with the large scale open world PVP that I and so many others out there enjoy. I am not bashing anyone or anything here, just stating the reality that GW2 is going to loose players if they keep continuing this trend.

Dont Foget the League coming in 2 weeks.

Honestly.. I could care less about the whole league BS…. I am not interested in WvW becoming some tournament silliness. I dont like any of the current or future changes they have laid out for WvW atm. I wanted New Battlegrounds terrain, not rehashed old ones with Spvp capture points put in them. That is I want geographical challenges (heavy woods, cliffs, water (yeah. I will miss the water fights), and not silly discs on the ground to stand in. <sighs> I may just go back to DAOC for my open world pvp fun.

Part of the problem here is we have some idiot at Anet that wants to turn WvW into some online arena fight (what many of us WvW DONT WANT). Leave that to there stupid Tpvp and Spvp. Many of us that do not appreciate capture the flag crap stayed out of the arena play for that very reason. Bringing that into WvW just encourages those of us that dont like that style of play to go to EB. Ah.. yes.. so we wanted NEW maps for BL’s (individual different ones.. giving different tactics for each one)… but instead you take away part of that diversity (the water), and put in some stupid capture and hold points that no one is going to want to sit on for half a day anyway. So we go from 2 viable maps, to 1. So welcome to EB cue’s folks.. cus thats where all of us WvW’ers are going to be <yawn> … god that map gets boring fast. No one is going to play in the BL’s unless they are masochists.

This is new this patch (23rd, July)….. Anytime someone sends me a group invite if I accept or deny the invite the client crashes. I am running Mac client on the following system. With OS 10.6.8. I am unsure how to check further into my Mac to find out more to tell you on whats going on.

This whole thread is just hilarious… and no I am not in favor of any kind of /inspect. The simple solution for those that want /inspect is DONT PUG. Seriously, get together a team of friends to do your silly dungeons with and do it with them only. If you choose to PUG or bring PUG’s into groups… just expect the worst and make the best of it.

To be completely honest… I am not a fan of any of the legendary skins. Aesthetically I find them gaudy and over done and would much prefer something with a cleaner and elegant design. That being said, what I would like for Anet to provide is a complete new set of legendary’s for those of us who have different tastes in what we feel a weapon should look like. As the current crop of designs all remind me of children’s toys, or something to spread mayo on a sandwich (the GS’s). This way those that prefer the childish designs can have what they want, and those of us with a more refined sense of taste can use what we would like.

I am all for this idea…. and I could care less about the personal story crap. Just reset it to start if you change race for all I care. As I dont plan on doing the story quests again, ad-nausium (since after lvl 50 they are the same pretty much). I have only completed story quest on 1 80 and dont plan on finishing it on any of my other 80’s. There is just no point unless I can thow Trahearn on a bonfire <grins>.

But back on track…. I am all for a means to change race for those of us that dont care about story quests, and just want different race (with different racial elite skills). I would not even mind loosing the skill points for those special skills. What I dont want is to also have to lvl up my crafts on that character to 400 again. Which is why I have not deleted my one silvari toon, to remake him as asura (as I did with another 80 a couple months ago). Leveling is easy.. but leveling a craft gets expensive. Especially with the current material costs as they are.

Well an eng needs to put 20 points into Inventions and 20 points into Tools to get those speed boosts. Which for any eng to spec that way (both) would limit them severly. So I would not consider those two as speed benifits for the most part. I even tried out the 25% in combat speed tonight on my eng, and it was only marginally usefull. Not enough for me to spec Inventions that high.They do have a med kit speed, and potion they can use. So they do have more options than a mesmer. But I still feel my mesmer is faster overall, even though I still wish we had a “more reliable swiftness”.

I would prefer they completely redid signet of inspiration to simply give a 15% passive movement speed boost.

We would still be the absolute slowest moving profession of the game which obviously is Anet’s intention, but at least the gap wouldn’t be this obvious.

Why not go +25% like every other passive speed boost now in the game?

I rolled a warrior.. boring.. I also have eng, ranger, and thief at 80.. thief is too easy, but eng is not bad. Ranger got some love but not sure how well they did as I have not tested yet.

Yeah.. shatter got a buff.. but not everyone enjoys that playstyle on a mesmer. One of the things about the class is the versitility in the way one could play one. But more and more it seems the devs are dumbing down that diversity that many of us like.

I’m fine with clones disappearing because they don’t do much besides draw aggro.

I would like Phantasms to stay though… They’re actually part of our DPS.
The idea of leading a group of phantasms and gunning/cutting down mobs is truly epic.

If you aren’t shattering and recasting your illusions (clones/phantasms) you are playing the class wrong :/ I only ever let mine stay up while they are on CD, recasting is faster then they attack(even traited)…

Then explain to me this… why do we have ranged clones/phantasms that get no wher e near enough to the target for shatter to have an effect at all?

So what I am seeing in all these crys to nerf portal are also other variables that are affecting things much more than the portal itself is. Portal is just the vehicle allowing these other issues to take shape. If they fix culling and the exploiting (to enter keeps with walls up).. most of these arguments I am seeing would be proven moot. And would still allow skilled mesmers to provide an effective tactic when a breach to a keep has allready been achieved (wall or door down).

What I would suggest would be to allow AOE damage to transmit through portals. This way if you AOE a portal… it damages folks at both sides of it. This would add an element of risk to those using this tactic, and force them to not delay or potentially be aoe’d at the portal entry spot. After all.. if players/golems can go through, why couln’t fireballs, meteor showers, etc.? Just a thought.

Keep the awfull dugeons out of the daily.. it is bad enough being forced to do those for monthly. Keep in mind, some players prefer open world content in this game and find the instanced content akin to being waterboarded. The dailys are fine at present as you can choose to do your kills wherever you choose. Be it in WvW area’s, Dungeons, or Open world PVE. If you cannot be creative enough on how you do them, thats your issue.

Aye… give a means for players to achieve Ascended gear in open world PVE rather than forcing them to repeat the same series of fractals ad nausium. That might bring some back out into the player world rather than living in a dungeon. In fact I would love to see more reasons for people to populate the open world again. With the karma increases for dungeons you dont even see folks out karma farming in Orr except in rare instances. This sadly hurts the player base that does not care for instanced PVE content. As not everyone enjoys a linear dungeon experience. I myself much prefer a non linear PVE (and pvp) style of play. Which means open world where I can pick and choose where, what, and how I kill.

Part of the problem is you have three maps that are identical, as well as stupid pve crap thrown in (jump puzzles and pve events). These are the kinds of things that need some changes. That so many are worried about doing a jump puzzle for medals rather than fighting is another symptom of the problem.

I would suggest eliminating the PVE stuff entirely, and give us more maps/objectives to take. Also medals should only be given off of PVP kills or major objectives forcing those who want them to go to war, and not run around jumping from rock to rock.

See I too came over from DAOC… and much prefer a non linear open world pvp enviorment to the linear arena style (sPVP). So would definatly like to see more improvements in the WvW direction.

I don’t have a screenshot, but the crafted “Rampager” set minus the head piece looked pretty cool on my ENG when I leveled him up. I still like for helm the monicle from the crafted Noble set. I may even craft a Rampager set for a skin as I am not sure I like the current Karma look on him yet or not.

Well I got a NEW Logictec G500 in last night, plugged it in and only using Win7 drivers (no logictec bloatware) it appears to have FIXED the problem. So apparenty both my G9 and my other older no brand spare mouse were either defective or had some other issue with this game. New mouse is smooth as silk, and runs great thus far. If I notice any problems over the weekend I will report them here. I am not noticing the loss of control that I previously encountered, or any stutters or issues using either right or left clicks for panning or character control.

Awful Performance all of a sudden, worked perfect yesterday.

Yeah.. since Thursdays patch the candycorn is randomly popping in and out both visually and on the mini map (showing a “mining node of it” at the same time then also blinking out). The biggest “lag” I am getting though is at the two dragon fights, with Jormag being the worst. I have not WvW’d though since last Thursdays patch to test that yet.

Well my old logictech G9 (I miss read it the first time as most of the text is worn off this mouse) is getting long in the tooth (5 or 6 years old) so I went and ordered a new G500 and it should be in on Wed, or Thur’s. So I will test it out using just the OS software (Win7) first this comming weekend and see if that solves anything. Though I suspect it may not. I have been using right click panning in MMO’s for 10 years now, starting with DAOC, then Lineage II, Aion, LOTRO, Rift, Tera, PW, back to DAOC and now GW2. GW2 is the only game I have encountered this issue with. I hope Anet can fix this soon. Either way…. some feedback from the CSR’s of this forum would really help to know if they are actively tracking this down or not.

Hmm.. this is not the same symptom I am getting, but my symtoms may be caused by this pheonominon. I am loosing complete turn control and the mouse curser dissapears entirely, and my right mouse button then activates foward motion during the pan freeze time period. I also hear an audible bi-bum sound both when the pheonominon engages, and when it comes back. I have found that the bug starts though when I start GW2 loggin window, and that it affects my mouse in windows after that even if I have dropped the game. And only rebooting my comp fixes the issue. So its not when I enter the game, but when I bring up the log-in screen that it seems to start on my comp. It just occured twice while I have been typing this and I have not “reentered the game”. Though my issue may be different from what you are describing. Thanks though for trying to debugg this.

Hmm.. this is not the same symptom I am getting, but my symtoms may be caused by this pheonominon. I am loosing complete turn control and the mouse curser dissapears entirely, and my right mouse button then activates foward motion during the pan freeze time period. I also hear an audible bi-bum sound both when the pheonominon engages, and when it comes back. Thanks though for trying to debugg this.And yes, I could not complete clock tower at all, as loosing complete mouse control over the character and point of view for 4 to 8 second intervals does not work in any timed jump puzzle. I died several times during Spekk’s Lab jump puzzle from this effect as well. And though I can PVP in the zerg during WvW .. I have to plan for this to occur and thus take very controled risks to get any kills off without getting killed myself.

I am running a Logictec G5 laser and started having this issue in the EARLY OCTOBER patch. Driver is the Win 7 default (from OS), I do not have the logictec bloatware software running.

Symptoms: Its appears to be totally random. I can be not touching any keys and I will hear the audio “da,dom” sound that tells me that it just occured. It makes that sound each time it goes into effect, and then again when it clicks out of what ever it is doing. It happens more often when I click both left and right click buttons at the same time. When the effect is “on” I cannot pan with mouse at all, and the right click turns into “move foward”. This effect also changes how my Nostromo Razor Keypad reacts as well with movement (joystick) controls, though I don’t remember exactly what it did. I will attempt to pay more attention the next few times it occurs so I can record the symptoms.

I am on a wired Logictec (Laser) running just the Win 7 drivers (not logictec ones) and have NEVER had this issue with any other games. But this bug happens so frequently here in GW2 (since last patch) I wont go out and WvW untill they fix it. It also did not occur before this last patch, so its the game client at fault here, not my system. If they don’t fix it soon I may have to leave the game. As its bairly playable currently, as it happens several times during a battle. It makes Jump Puzzles extremely challenging as well.
