We Asuran players should get a cut from all this travel, should we not? <grins>
Then there are those of us that abhor PVE in this game and spend the majority of our time in WVW. Who want the ability to gain content based on our game play, and not some silly mindless PVE content. When the game was released almost 4.7 years ago, the devs said that players could choose the content style they wanted and still gain the same rewards. Sadly they have not lived up to this, forcing us WVW’ers into doing massive hours of mindless boring PVE content to even obtain our ascended gear for our WVWing. Why we WVW’ers prefer that game mode you ask? It’s always different, because real players that change tactics play the other side. That’s the appeal of such content. And WVW over TPVP because it’s actually fun to beat greater odds (5 vs 10 for example). Which is not possible in boring arena based 5 vs 5 fights. But I digress, my point is this: ANET NEEDS TO ENABLE GEAR CONTENT TO ALL GAME MODE PLAYERS, and not just PVE’ers.
Actually downstate needs to be removed instead.
Hell yeah, this …. so much THIS.
Honestly, if I had to go without wvw for a full week.. I prob would quit the game entirely. It’s the only game mode that brings me back to play.
That’s because epi is so powerful against the unorganised. But I don’t see why they should nerf it just because people are too lazy or casual to organise themselves to counter it.
Highest potential DPS skill in the game that is unblockable, on a 13.5s timer and an AoE. The skill is ridiculous in the current condi heavy meta. I ran around last night firing CB/Epi with the occasional Plague and it is easily the most powerful combo I have run in a long time.
Sure you did. If you would try to use epidemic you would fail nine times of ten.
Cast epidemic…. and the target evaded. Cast epidemic… and the target has resistance. Cast epidemic… and the target condi cleansed. Cast epidemic… and target is obstructed.
^^ This…. so much This.
That and casting epi on siege was one of the great ways to assault and clear over sieged towers/keeps. I would say there is way to much kitten siege in this game and that should be nerfed before epi. <grumbles> Get those kitten siege humpers to come out and fight.
I have to be honest, I liked DB originally, and I liked with some of the changes they made…. UNTIL NOW. The ruins/bloodlust is stupid and needs to go. So now you put the stupid ruins n the middle of Desert BL as well? What a waste of time! Sorry to the bloodlust lovers out there, but it really does not help the game play. Give us something for us that like a different tactical style… like UNDERWATER AREA.
See I hated when they took out the water zone in the alpine BL’s because it took away the only decent zone for underwater WVWing. Just because a bunch of folks can’t play there “meta build” underwater (you have to use different tactics OMgosh!). You know that’s why so many don’t like desert BL either… cus they cant think out of there tiny box. Desert offers a different tactical style and setting. It’s not designed for the lazy Zerg vs Zerg press 1 style of fighting. It takes thinking differently, and using the terrain in interesting ways.
So sorry Anet, I feel you are dumbing down the wvw to feed the brainless zergfesters, and not the smaller more tactical wvwing groups. Some of us like “different” and interesting terrain to play with. Not everyone wants to play in big boring open see the enemy a mile away zerg fights. I just feel sorry for those that cant think outside there own box to learn how to have fun in Desert BL without calling for there mama’s.
I would undo every single nerfs they did including the ones on Beta Testing.
^ This.. so much this… I want my beta 1 Mayllx back.
They need to bring Beta 1 Mallyx back. Let me return condis back to opponents like it used too. Some of us dont want to play power builds, but want to be condi Mallyx masters.
Yup… Anet should supply legendary options for the different play-styles in the game. And make them unique styles for that game type. So WVW’er leg set, PVE leg set, and TPVP leg set. All different designs to give some exclusivity to each game mode.
What they need to do is make different sets for different play-styles of the game. So us WVW’ers could WVW for our set, TPVP’ers for theirs, and PVE’ers and do there raids for theirs. Also have different criteria .. say Gold or Platinum ranking or better for wvw’ers.. and something similar for the PVP’ers. Not everyone wants to grind through some stupid PVE raid to get something for the game. Lets those of us that enjoy other aspects of the game get our set by doing our gameplay mode. This way the PVE’ers can have their exclusive set, PVP’ers thiers, and WVWers also a set. It would seem like a win, win situation that way.
Great, more tools for the siege humpers that cant fight out of a paper box without it.
What we need is the old Mallyx back, back from early beta. That design worked well for condi builds, not so much anymore.
We in SBI have been artificially placed down at T4 now for the second week and we are bored out of our minds. As well as our score now is dropping as a consequence. And this is after winning T3 two weeks ago. We want good fights (which we had in T3), not stupid karma trains (pretty much all we have in T4). Please fix ASAP. We did not deserve the drop, and it was only your (Anets) meddling which caused it in the first place.
What sucks is for those of us that have several 80’s with ascended neck pieces ( I think I have 14 equipped at present). And all of my infusions were WVW offensive infusions (either condi or power). So yeah.. a refund would be nice, but I would rather have the ability to put back in offensive infusions (rather than a useless utility).
Yeah.. to be honest I agree on the bad way these polls have been applied. The questions are very limited almost as if they are predicting the outcome by the nature of the questions.
Personally I am not fond of EB nor Alpine BL’s (boring flat, see the enemy a mile away, etc.). The Desert BL’s for me was the most fun I have had in years. Lots of twists and turns that makes one need to get to know them to navigate in. With alternate routes that don’t advertise ones location.
My biggest beef with the HOT WVW expansion is the stupid sentry spotting system. It’s way to large of an area of detection, which does not enable “sneak” tactics to get around them. And that includes seeing through stealth (seriously?). Mind you I think one should not need stealth to “sneak” a force around behind another force to flank, or attack from rear. Forcing a dependence on using Veil, or mass invisibility makes for boring gameplay for the Mesmer stuck with this chore.
That’s what the desert BL’s enabled to some extent (as long as those stupid sentry’s were dead). The ability to mobilize around choke points to engage the enemy from different angles without advertising where you are coming from.
Also that sentry system pretty much eliminates hiding a Mesmer in a keep (not impossible, but much harder). So you have several viable tactics that are either hampered or made impossible by the combination of map/sentry. Which makes WVW a lot less interesting to play.
Got to be completely honest here, I much preferred the Desert BL maps to the alpine maps, and here is why.
Tactics… Desert BL offered many more tactical options with all the alternate routes through the terrain. This applies to both large zergs (if they pay attention), and small havocs. The Alpine BL favors large mindless zergfests where in Desert BL those that prefer that lazy playstyle often get lost, or disoriented (because they are not really paying attention in the first place). And for me at least, I would rather have players I am fighting with to be more astute and paying attention to commands than the “chase squirrel” and “follow the leader mindlessly” types.
I get bored in both EB and Alpine for those very reasons…. they are not geographically challenging maps to play in. I much prefer a map I can use to my advantage for different tactical styles that are very limited in the large open (see a million miles away) maps we have currently. I realize that some prefer easier map to play in, so they can use simplistic tactics that dont take much coordination or thought to apply. This is why I wish we had different BL maps for different play-style preferences. One map, desert, one map alpine, and one another style… and oh my goodness they need to update EB.. (the most boring of them all). I only play now to be with friends on TS, or to get my dailys. I don’t have fun at all in the current map setup.
I would rather just kick an Anet dev in the nuts. It might strike the point home that we want a clean UI over marketing crap (like the stupid twitch adds for the e sport idiocy). And yes, I paid for both the game and the expansion. But my only interest is in open world content (be it PVE, or PVP (wvw for open world PVP). I don’t find any of the linear instanced content remotely of interest. Hell I am still downloading this stupid patch for something I will never participate in (slow connection and is highest in my rural area). So it is detrimentally affecting the game I play and paid for by causing lag from the downloading of raid content textures and maps.
What I mean is.. I have zero interest in silly PVE raid content… ZERO. So I would love to be able to select what game content to download and what not too for my patching (referring to the large texture, and map files here). I would be fine not downloading the instanced dungeon, raid, fractals and arena pvp (Tpvp/Spvp) zones, as I am an open world player (be it PVE or WVW). So would love to be able to omit the linear closed content from even downloading and taking up useless space on my HD. They proved it was potentially viable to do this to some extent with the (cant enter zone until it downloads) partial patch able to play mode. I just wish they would do it one step further and allow folks to save the bandwidth for those of us geographically limited on bandwidth (max I can get is 1mb/sec in my area). And this way players could choose to download the parts of the game that they most use could do so, and skip the parts they are not interested in.
EVERYTHING I JUST SAID, IS EVEN WORSE FOR WvW, WHICH IS THE ONLY GAME MODE IN THIS GAME THAT I STILL CARE ABOUT.
Lol. PvP isn’t this games strongest suit, nor is it the only gamemode. I’ve used all the chrono traits and find they all have usefulness in pve, not all the time but no build is perfect for everything, it’s how you play them which verifies their usefullness.
Uhmm, no.
The PvE in this game is literally the most mind numbingly boring thing, that I only ever do for the cool looking back items & etc I can get from it.
The PvP & WvW is literally all I’m still here for.
More specifically, the WvW. As PvP is in an absolutely unplayable state for me.
I have to agree, as the Arena PVP bores me to tears (its in a small arena with fixed size teams), and the pve in this game is only a means to skins/skills in this game to me. So WvW is my only real reason to continue playing.
Acually, in T3 it’s off or on, and you never can tell until you go there. Sometimes we get great fights in our BL’s, and others it’s a karma farm. EB is always active though in T3, really no down time at all. And at least on SBI (where I am from) we don’t often have a cue either. So we can get in and jump into the action at a moments notice.
T3 = SBI, DB, and CD. And to see server status http://mos.millenium.org/na/
Tried Elder scrolls out just because they have a native client, the client works so bloody well, but sadly i don’t care for their game. So it is very possible to have a very good “native” mac client for gw2, i know it is not gonna happen or even get a response, but just throwing that info out there.
The engine For Elder Scrolls supports OpenGL and so does Mac OSX.
Guild Wars 2 only supports Direct X. Unless the engine is re-written to support OpenGL there won’t be a “Native” Client. Considering the years of development and testing that went in producing this game on an engine that only supports Direct X, I do not see any point in wishful thinking that there will ever be Native Mac support. Especially since people are still holding out for DX10/11 update 3 years later.
The best and only foreseeable option for Mac users is to get a copy of windows and bootcamp.
Well if Anet was seriously considering writing a native mac variant, it would behoove them to look at METAL. Here is a link from Apple explaining a little about it.
Yeah.. thanks for the fresh bug tonight… your patches are always looked at by the mac community with trepidation… cus they always cause our client issues. And I am on my 6th restart since forced patch and still no luck. JOY!!.. <with heavy sarcasm>
Woot! Fresh patch this morning, and fresh chance to do my workaround to get download client going.. <sarcasm>
Yup.. it happens every patch. Though this time I had to force quit 3 times and restart it with a browser up to get it going. For some reason I have to have a browser (use firefox) up and running when I restart client, for the patch window to appear on my screen to start downloading patch. Not sure why that is the case, but It’s consistent now.
Part of the problem is EVERY update causes an issue with Mac client… EVERY SINGLE PATCH. I have to do a work around to even get it to work after every patch and that’s becoming a real pain in the kitten .
Yeah, every time they do a “patch” it causes an issue with the launcher. Not sure why that issue still persists. I just now had to close launcher after it stuck, then restart it and it then started working (on downloading patch).
The launcher not showing up might be fontconfig rebuilding it’s cache. Other multi platform software suffers from it (if you used VLC you know what I’m talking about). Just give it 5-10 minutes
If this is indeed the problem they could ‘solve’ it by providing a custom fonts.conf for fontconfig: the fix is trivial.
Yeah.. well it’s still not coming up after 2.5+ hours (I have tested it) so its not wait a few minutes issue. And this is on multiple tries. I have a ticket in with support but we shall see how far that goes?
I am happy to run some diagnostic scripts if Anet provides them to check things. I can send them Wireshark logs as well if they need to check connectivity. Honestly I just want a clear response from them on what they are planning on doing with Mac client for the future. If they are not going to support it, I will load Windows 7 on an external drive and bootcamp it. As I think the performance hit running it on win 7 inside a VMware Fusion would be too much (which I do have installed now, for cisco class work).
I am having the same issue now.. even deleted and re-downloaded startup .. and after the initial installation is done.. it just sits there in dock showing its running but nothing is going on (checked activity monitor). Restarted comp.. did all the script (in terminal) commands, and still no go. This client is just currently borked.
I miss the old Mallyx from B1…
Yeah, I am defiantly in favor of them creating a native client for Mac’s. Open GL is still superior to Direct X. I have had all the issues mentioned in all 6 pages of this post. And running a 2 month old 27" Imac with 4 gig of vram, 16gig of system ram, the graphics just are way sub par to what the hardware will support.
It really comes down to if they think it’s economically feasible to put the resources behind such. But as they show for HOT download page, it clearly show’s MAC client is listed as a viable option. And at present it is not.
Yeah.. I guess I should put in a support ticket for my Mac as well, even though I am still progressing through the steps listed here: http://www.guildwars2guru.com/arenanet-tracker/topic/265042-basic-mac-beta-client-troubleshooting/
GW2 is totally down on my Imac 27" 5k machine at present. And it happened during one of the subsequent patches on Friday. As I was running it fine Friday morning, then one of the many “mini” patches screwed up the startup part of my client.
I had full Acended Armor (sinister) crafted for my future condi Rev back in May, and have since crafted hammer, mace, axe, spear, and two swords as well. Though I only crafted spear after this last beta weekend when we found out it was spear. But I pretty much have everything done, just have to decide jewelry choices at this point.
See when I am not out WvWing.. I spend most of my time farming mats for either future crafting or for resale. So it was easy for me to craft a set of ascended in short order as I have most if not all the materials on hand.
I just hope that the Gyro does not have a giant “red tag over it’s head” saying.. “such and such server gyro” to broadcast it for everyone within clip range to see it a mile away. If it’s just the small gyro floating and bobbing along without the huge RED advertisement banner, it might work well for getting groups by an area unseen at a distance. Well except for those who watch for anomalies or things that look out of place.
the only problem with condis is +/- 40% condi duration food.
Do you have any damage output numbers that a condition build with that food does more damage then a power based build can put out with its optimal food? Until you provide something like that, you are making nothing more then an unfounded claim.
I personally would like to see some factual numbers, to make this debate based on objective facts versus post that are subjective opinions.
7-1 win ratio in a series of duels against a d/d ele using a rabid rev during the rev beta by essentially rolling my face over the keyboard isn’t a factual number?
Duels is not WVW… you can’t base your data in WvW on a 1 vs 1 fight. Also what gear were you in? Zerker? I mow down zerker meta’s now with my condi necro, but once I fight someone who actually spec’s some cleansing/defense gear/skills my fights get a whole lot harder.
Odesseus… turning off Depth Blur seems to have done the trick, thanks.
FlamingFoxx… I am running 1920×1080 on full screen mode. So no where near max.
Thanks for the tips Odesseus. On autodetect it had all of those turned off but Depth Blur (which I now turned off) .. so I will test it with that off. Funny it just crashed with me popping map up just before I came to see your message.
Sorry to bump an old thread, but my old macbook pro 17" died, and I purchased a new 27" 5k Imac (fully loaded) and am getting constant crashes when more players come nearby. The hardware should be able to support this no problem, and I use auto detect for settings in game. So it’s something with the Mac client port conflicting with Yosemite that is likely the issue. Running with full screen 1920 × 1080, autodetect on settings. Getting 31 FPS in Rata Sum.
Imac spec’s as follows:
Imac (Retina 5k, 27-Inch) running Yosemite 10.10.4, 4
Processor: GHz Intel Core i7
Memory: 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics: AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4096 MB
If the dev’s have a script set up to test mac issues I would be happy to run it and send in the data. As I would like to see this issue fixed as Yosemite has been live now for several months.
I didn’t expect high direct damage since we don’t have the damage weapon/legend. But you could at least expect good condition damage from the mace-axe/Mallyx. The Mallyx legend will shine against a condi build. Fine, but at least the weapons should be able to give some conditions themselves and this is just not the case. In a sense, it reminds me of necromancer. You can destroy incoming conditions, send them back, transform them into boons… but you can’t give conditions yourself.
I have been trying to use the Mallyx legend with a full Acended Sinister set (weapons, armor all infused with 5 condi/5 tough).. two sinister ascended jewels (nec, and ring) and with food the highest condi I could achieve was in the 1300s. Mind you this gear I have already crafted prior to beta so I could use it immediately on my beta toon.
My necro does much higher condi damage at present, with mostly exotic rabid armor,. This tells me that the Rev’s condi damage using a condi build, running the condi legend is way below game standard. I have not tried a dps build, but I am guessing from others reactions that the dps builds are feeling the pain as well.
Necro = with my new condi build is much more sustainable…. condi is better, but still takes time to take down enemy’s. The big difference is with my new build is the better survivability. I am enjoying necro quite a bit more post patch. Thieves and Mesmers are easy to take down in the right circumstances. If I can get a Mesmer in a tight space I can ruin them, open field engagements where they have room to move they ruin me. Guardians much more challenging, they can spam clear my condi’s, and out heal my damage for the most part. Only chance against guardians is using fear consistently and wear them down.
Eng – Bieng forced into frontline (the range nerf on grenade’kitten my playstyle hard) I do not find pleasant at all. Though with flamethrower and juggernaut running into a zerg and broiling folks can be fun from time to time. I just feel the range nerf reduced options for playstyles with this class.
The other classes I have not played enough to get a decent feel for.
Yeah.. I have to agree, the new skill system and nerfs is pushing eng into a frontline close range monkey, and thats not how I liked to play mine at all. Thus mine is now mostly a mat farming/crafting bot, as I don’t enjoy frontline on my eng.
Yup…. my condi eng is now a crafting/gathering bot… my whole trait setup got totally squished to oblivion by this last patch. Mind you thats for my playstyle.. problem with this new system is it compresses folks into a much less versatile (more focused) set up. And that does not work for the way I play my toons. When I need some skills that are in 4 different trait lines, and now forced to 3… I don’t want to be without one or more of those skills for the way I play.
The problem is its forcing people to play in narrow linear ways… and I am a non linear player.
I honestly don’t have an issue as a WVW’er in purchasing an expansion, but I do have issue with having to grind PVE to bring all 9 of my 80’s back to competitive status for doing my WVW with those characters (aka.. the new mastery system/class skills).
My hope is that there will be alternatives to having to learn mushroom jumping and gliding skills to get the mastery’s needed for my competitive wvw play. Mind you I like exploring new maps and doing a little PVE from time to time, I just don’t find having to grind for skill sets to accomplish it fun. And that’s the fear I have of this new mastery system.
I built an ascended sinister set (armor, and hammer) just for fun to try out. Jewelry I am waiting on till I get to play around with it a bit. If I find I need more defense (tough, vit, etc) I can always boost that with the jewelry till I figure out exactly what I will end up with.
For those on the fence for stat choices… just stock up on the ascended mats you will need (before the price goes through the roof on release), then on release craft a few exotics to try out with before doing your ascended crafting.
I know this is an older topic.. but what I would really like the Revenant to have as a weapon would be a Whip (as in Nightmare court skill set whip). If you ever did the storyline for a Silvari and get to use one for that brief story breaking the one guy out of jail, you get to try out the whip skillset.
Basically the last update (Yesterday I think) I downloaded has turned my FPS to the normally dismal 16 – 23 down to 4 – 5 FPS. It’s made the game pretty much unplayable. I am just curious if any other Mac users are experiencing this issue?
Seriously.. it’s cute in the short term, but long term and overused it’s beyond annoying. And its not as if one could “refuse” acceptance of it. Is there any key combination to remove this or any other unwanted buffs one has on ones character?
I myself love WVW but lately the match ups have been so one sided that getting some POI’s in some keeps are neigh impossible for some of my alts. And I have 9 80’s with full world complete done FYI.. so I have done it before several times. I can see it for some folks on low pop servers that could have a heck of a time completing some maps not from griefers, but more from the inability to access some area’s because they just don’t have a strong enough wvw contingent on their server to take say Green’s keeps for one example. So while I am not fond of removing them for the reasons stated above, I am not really in favor of having world completion pve’ers only coming onto wvw maps with only PVE completion in mind. Though the counterpart to that is some of them actually join in and have fun doing WVW and become avid wvw’ers as a consequence. You will still have others that are and stay totally useless in the fight cus they have a one tract mind to only get the achieve, and nothing else. Though a more randomization of the match ups might help this issue. Allowing even the low pop servers to get a chance to be of a different shade (green, blue, or red) over a few months time allowing them to get the points they need in turn.
Just a thought here, as mini’s don’t really do anything for WvW combat other than to create lag for players with less optimal computers. And with so many complaints about lag in these forums, it would seem a logical step to help reduce it. What do others think on the subject?
What I would suggest is the devs put the NAME of the character on the piece of siege they built. This way a player could accurately report said siege griefer. So when you right click a piece of siege it not only gives you the timer left on it, but also says "built by “insert name here”". After all, folks should take pride in what they build eh? And this way a griefer that is spamming siege would be tracked so much easyer to prove said griefing for report and punishment purposes.
Just a side note, this thread now has over 20,000 views, and that does give a little clue of how many Mac players we have going out here. And how debilitating that this BLTC problem is for us Mac players.
