Proposal Overview
Add a juvenile Nightmare Hound for Rangers to charm.
Goal of Proposal
Give Rangers access to Torment. Also, give Rangers a cool looking pet.
Proposal Functionality
Juvenile Nightmare Hound would be a new tamable canine pet. It’s F2 skill would be something like: “Tormenting Howl, 600 range, kitten Torment stacks”.
Associated Risks
Condition Bunker Rangers would gain access to another condition for added pressure. Should be balanced carefully.

Proposal Overview
Master’s Bond doesn’t reset when changing/stowing pet.
Goal of Proposal
There are 3 goals: 1-Make better use of Master’s Bond, because right now the game mechanics promote switching pet. 2-Promote keeping the pet alive. 3-Don’t punish the player for crossing a pond.
Proposal Functionality
Master’s Bond would be considered a buff applied to the Ranger, even if it buffs the Ranger’s pet. This way, it isn’t reseted when you swich/stow the pet.
Associated Risks
The trait would need to be nerfed a little bit as it would be too easy now to gain the stacks (limit it to 20 stacks).

Proposal Overview
Barrage and Whirling Defense shouldn’t root player.
Goal of Proposal
Give the Ranger the mobility it’s supposed to have by removing the “rooting” from some of its weapon skills.
Proposal Functionality
Giving the Ranger the capability of moving while using Barrage and Whirling Defense would help improve its utility for kitting (Barrage) of defense (Whirling Defense). A player should be able to move while casting these skills. This would improve Barrage as a CC weapon against large groups, and Whirling Defense as a tool to protect teammates while advancing (or retreating).
Associated Risks
Would require to rework some animations. A group of Rangers alternating Whirling Defense and having traited for Off-hand Training could negate ranged attacks for a long time.

Proposal Overview
Hunter’s Call applies blind.
Goal of Proposal
Improve the usefulness of Hunter’s Call, a skill used only for give your pet a lot of might while using RaO. Also, give the player an “on-demand” blind not dependent of pet’s AI.
Proposal Functionality
Reduce the number of times Hunte’s Call hits to 8 while keeping duration and damage. Each hit applies 1 second blind.
Associated Risks
A pair of Rangers with Off-hand Training and dual-ravens could shut-down an enemy player’s attack for a long time.
Over the last weeks I’ve been writing down in notepad (best Windows program ever XDDD) lots of small ideas/tweaks easy to implement I think would help to improve the Ranger class without changing its core mechanics. Some of them have been posted in the forums or in this thread, but after 22 pages I’m not sure where I got the ideas from, so sorry if it looks like I’m just reposting something another player has already written here. Also, sorry if it looks like I’m trying to flood the thread. I’ll try to keep it as brief as possible:

Proposal Overview
Add more “punch” to Serpent Strike.
Goal of Proposal
Improve this skill against players.
Proposal Functionality
Right now Serpent Strike is a slow and telegraphed skill that misses a lot against players (while works fine against NPC’s), and it’s mostly used as a free evade. Doubling the damage it deals, it would reward landing the hit against previously crippled/chilled/inmobilized foes.
Associated Risks
It may add more DPS for an already good power weapon. CD could be increased to compensate.

Specific Game Mode
PvP and WvW
Proposal Overview
Hornet Sting should evade for the whole duration of the skill.
Goal of Proposal
Improve Hornet Sting as an evasive skill.
Proposal Functionality
Right now, Hornet Sting is only usable as an evasive skill against NPC’s (predictable by nature) or some telegraphed skills. Giving evade to the skill for it’s whole duration would help against faster player attacks.
Associated Risks
It would make Sword/Dagger already better at evading and kitting. CD should be increased to compensate.
1. Ranger
2. Engineer
3. Thief
And WH 4 is less DPS then sword AA.
Yes, but using WH4 with rampage as one at the same time you attack with the sword, it gives the pet 25 stacks of might in just a few seconds.
I’ve been using the shorbow since last week and I haven’t detected any difference.
There is no nerf.
This issue has been on our hotfix list. Enjoy the fury while you have it. x.x
So… the Longbow only was popular and powerful for a brief period of time thanks to a bug. And even that way, nearly no one noticed.
Kittening kitten…
Well, I guess I was just lucky…
I’m not saying that it’s yet perfectly responsive, but the last couple of days I’ve noticed that my wolves’ F2 is much more reliable in WvW.
Has someone else noticed this?
Did Arenanet manage to fix something “only” after more than one year?
Tbh while I find stealth stupidly broken and overpowered all else seem like a bad trade off for a game that is group pvp oriented
Please explain to us how stealth is stupidly broken when all it does is hide you from the eyes of your opponents and doesn’t prevent any damage nor CC…
Many skills require target to hit. If you can’t target the stealthed oponent, you can’t damage/CC him. As I see it, that prevents damage and CC. A lot.
The issue with the pets being unable to hit moving targets has been an issue since launch.. and one they are unable to fix, it’s a problem with the coding if i remember correctly.
As for the aoe thing, that would seem like an easy fix to me to, im not sure why they have not done it yet.. it’s another thing that has been suggested many times.
The pets use nearly the same AI the enemy mobs use, that’s why they can’t hit while moving, jump up/down, follow strange paths…
Also, before release (don’t know if it was during alpha or beta), it is said that mobs could walk away from AOE’s, but someone thought this made them too powerful and removed it from their code.
And that’s the reason why we have to stick with such st*p*d companions.
Normally, I’d say something about necroposters, but this issue still exists 2 months later :P
I’d like to have my pets remember their names eventually. I named my pigs Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Dessert and I mixed them up so many times I don’t remember who is who anymore o_O
This issue isn’t 2 months old. It’s nearly one year old.
Did anyone read my post? The leash range IE how far your pet can go away from you, was nerfed, how far we can send our pet via targeting them and hitting F1 has been INCREASED overall it’s a nerf, but now we can send our pet further by hitting F1 instead of them just sitting at our side going “Lawlz no”.
I read your post indeed, and it puzzles me because i have the opposite experience. I used to F1 my pet to distant siege all the time. Now i’m getting the pet too far, yadda yadda yadda message all the time. Again, this is F1, not the pet despawn at range which also gets me depressed.
Right, it’s happening the same to me.
Hey, but on the plus side, Anet broke guard again and we can send pets outside and inside tower walls once more. Enjoy it while it lasts!
Guard is not broken, pets are going through walls normally with just plain F1 as long as you have someone targeted on the other side or on top of the wall.
Not sure if this is working as intended though.
Well, I wouldn’t say going through walls is “normal”.
I’ll try it tonight (if I remember it), but I’d say this is a bug. And I bet this one will be fixed ASAP, not like all the nearly-one-year-old-bugs that plage our class.
Wow, looks like with each patch we have MORE BUGS, instead of less bugs. I’ve tried to keep calm™ since beta, but I’m starting to get very angry…
Do they (ANet) really think they can push that 2-week-updated-content without completely breaking the game?
The leash distance is 2k, that means its 500 further than your traited longbow, In other words its been buffed, you can actually send your pet FURTHER than before by using F1, on the downside your pet will no longer chase your target to the ends of the earth.
The leash distance was 5000 before.
We could send our pets MUCH FURTHER by using F1 and it would chase targets when they quickly run away using teleports, shadowsteps, and those kind of things.
Also, the previous leash distance was ver useful to attack siege weapons in the ground.
After reading about this, yesterday I tried picking a banner and… wow, a great weapon indeed! Decent sustained damage, blast finisher, support, swiftness, gap closer… I want to be a warrior’s squire! A few enemies ended with a heavy headache…
Next time I join a Zerg, i’ll surely pick a banner to whack some heads and blast-finish the fields.
This is a great post, don’t let it dissapear!
Keep writing suggestions/ideas!
Just wanted to point out that even with the projectile speed increased by 15% u can still side step out of range… just missed 6 arrows cuz my opponent moved from side to side while running … also my projectiles gets blocked when either my pet or allies get in the LOS… im pretty sure that is a bug and it is really annoying…
ANET plz fix (its been almost a year….)
This bug explains the real “State of the Game” for Rangers:
our class has several “nearly-one-year-old-bugs” the devs don’t care about
Looks like a bug/exploit.
I play on WvW with my ranger almost everyday and I have never seen that.
What a cheater was playing a few minutes ago in Jade Sea Borderland.
Somehowm he was underwater UNDER bluerbriar.
He was using underwater skills, launching things like missiles and nets.
Oh, and he was from Jade Sea, because even if nobody could see him, I got hit and saw the source of the damage (see attached screencap).
Sadly, it’s very difficult to report an invisible man attacking underwater.

LOL!
Great FoS video, as always.
It could have more conditions or effects, like a 1s knockdown.
It’s not the professions, it’s the race. Asura are OP!
Little rabbit sized annoyances!Yeah it can be true…
I fought an asura melee ranger a few days ago, and i couldn’t see what’s he doing, he was so tiny (so, when he blocks or placing traps), while against other classes, you can see it pretty well.
My Ranger is Norn, so it’s like I’m telling beforehand what I’m going to do.
Double handicap, Ranger AND Norn.
Hey everybody,
We are currently in the process of cleaning up old sticky posts. We have noticed that this bug list is no longer being maintained by the original poster, so we are going to let it drop off. If somebody would like to take up the mantle of maintaining a current bug list, you are welcome to do so. If such a thread is created, please use the report button to alert the moderation team of your request for sticky.
Since the bug list thread was removed, and this was left in it’s place, I’m going to make this post and report it so this thread can be removed from the pinned topics. It’s really outdated and is just becoming a spam thread.
Good idea.
After all, this pet list is no longer being maintained by the original poster.
A Moderator un-sticked (is that a word? sorry, I’m not a native english speaker) the thread because “this bug list is no longer being maintained by the original poster”.
It doesn’t matter that the list is full of nearly-one-year-old-bugs (I’ll be saying that every time I can), because the Devs don’t pay any attention.
Oh, and looks like the same happened in the other profession’s subforums:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/members/Moderator-9302/showposts
P.S.: Any volunteer for a “new” bug list?
1) Fix all the nearly-one-year-old-bugs (1h sword rooting, invulnerable/obstructed/missing arrows, swoop getting you stuck mid-flight, SB quickshot not moving you at all, pets taking falling damage sometimes, pets not using their F2 and it going on CD anyway…).
2) Fix/improve pet’s AI for better pathing and targetting/attacking moving targets.
3) Rework LB.
Really, please, fix that dammed bugs we have since beta.
I would redesign LB skills this way:
#1: Remove distance tiers, do always max damage. Add vulnerability.
#2: Change it to some kind of supercharged skill. It would have high damage and long CD.
#3: Leave it as it is now.
#4: Increase distance to 900. Make it a Blast Finisher.
#5: Change it so you don’t root.
Also:
- Fix the current animation bug (using autoattack, the ranger no longer picks the arrows).
- Fix the nearly-one-year-old-bug with the missing/obstructed/invulnerable attacks.
- Upgrade arrow speed a bit more.
No one knows the answer?
I understand that this is an hard period for Rangers, but this bug is extremely annoying.
Seeing every time -the most often under water- the dead pet ressing his master is a really boring thing.
Even by re killing the pet, the Ranger gets huge healings. It’s impossible to burst him down.
Hope Anet will take care of this bug.
Just push/pull/interrupt the pet.
I’d ask if ANet plans to split future balance patches between PvE, sPvP and WvW, because many of 25th changes (nerfs) may work in sPvP, but are awfull in PvE and WvW.
Beautiful, but in the meantime many of us are f***ed (luckyly not me, I wasn’t a BM Bunker).
This happens because pets usually start the fight using one of their special skills (the ones with cooldowns), and only then they use the autoattack (this is great because canines start with the knockdown, and drakes with the AOE Blast Finisher).
Ok, suppose I eat some Omnomberry pie (66% chance of lifesteal on critical hit, one second cooldown).
Suppose I equipp a Superior Sigil of Blood on my weapon (30% chance of lifesteal on critical hit, two seconds cooldown).
How would this work?
Can I trigger both at the same time?
One cancels the other?
They share cooldown?
Thanks.
Doesn’t seem to work, I’ve only seen it go off once, does it break on damage? maybe I just keep missing it lol this trait would be better if it worked, removed conditions and casted regen.
It must be more for spvp then wvw
I think the problem here is autoattack, it makes you reappear again.
Also, remember that you can’t move while camouflaged, this is not stealth:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Camouflage
one that only triggers when you get your target below 50% health and then only every 45 seconds
That’s keen edge, not sharpened edges.
Oooops my bad
No problem.
So it seems that we have a clear winer. Thanks everybody!
one that only triggers when you get your target below 50% health and then only every 45 seconds
That’s keen edge, not sharpened edges.
I’d prefer more preparations than a new signet (imagine: one for venom, one for confussion, one for inmobilize…).
Anyway, yes, it would be good for zerker builds that don’t want to use pets.
shortbow from rangers wont reach you now too. They got nerfed to 900 range too
At least Ranger Shortbow got a 14% damage increase to compensate for the loss of range. Thief always gets things taken away but nothing compensated in return. The only thing Shortbow is good for now is blasting water fields.
False, the 14% damage increase was given to #3, #4, and #5, and now they just do the same damage as #1 (autoattack) if you don’t flank. Flanking, #1 does more damage because it also bleeds.
Overall, DPS on ranger shortbow remains the same, because on ranger’s shortbow the only source of damage is spamming #1, the other abilities are used just for daze/cripple/evade, never for damage.
No and these posts aren’t helpful in any way.
How ’bout you show us an example of a helpful post that has resulted in anything positive for the Ranger community?
Anything at all…anything.
He made me smile.
That’s positive and I’m part of the Ranger community.
Really fun video but … what makes you think that those guys are lvl 80?
Upleveled characters have that green arrow next their name.
But yeah… maybe their characters are level 80, but the players are just level 1 :p
Well, an easy question, I think. But I need your experience and math skills to know which trait fits me better.
Consider that:
- I use dual wolves for roaming (they seem to be a bit more reliable hitting enemies than our other pets) and spiders/devourers for zerging (which I rarely do).
- I’m not a BM bunker, neither a zerker ranger.
- I have less than 600 Condition Damage.
- I have 50% critical chance (70% with fury).
- I use Shortbow/Greatsword and Quickening Zephyr.
Thank you very much for your help.
(edited by Abrilete.1439)
I’m also doing nearly as well as before the patch, but I never was a good player to begin…
Maybe the reason is because every player is out there trying new builds and habilities. We we’ll see how well we do next week.
Regarding your 3 suggestions:
1) Yes, I miss a lot the shorbow range, either for deciding when to start the fight, either to chase people. We need the 1200 back at least on #4 to slow down fleeing enemies.
2) I also agree with you, but I have to say that this weapon feels much better know. I even got killed by a LB ranger, as I found that moving sideways no longer makes the arrows miss EVERY hit. If Anet got rid of the damage tiers on LB#1 I would use this weapon a lot.
3) LOL for the line regarding ambient creatures. It’s so pathetic…
I’m back using dual wolves for the knockdown/cripple and chill/fear, because it helps me to hit the enemies. Right know my pet is nearly another utility (and a very unreliable one).
One question… “Malicious Training” extends the duration of “Knockdown”, “Cripple”, “Fear” and “Chill”? Because the tooltips get modified by MY condition duration but not from the trait… another “nearly_one_year_old” bug the devs don’t care to fix.
Some of those players remind me some people I fought in WvWvW the first days of Beta.
The first day I didn’t know I was playing against other players, because some of them were so bad that didn’t even use evade rolls.
I will always post any build that I run for the Ranger community because in the end its just a game… and i’d rather fellow Rangers enjoy the game just as equally.
BM Bunker was created because I wanted to create something around Pain Inverter ability, because I was annoyed when they nerfed Shortbow back in the day with Quickness….People were down on the class, and everyone was complaining that it was dead.
I wanted to show that no…We have other builds the class can do that are amazing…
BM Bunker itself still works, Just use Birds….
I actually want to do a write up on my Ranger Dazer Build if I ever get around to getting enough video for it.
You created something around pain inverter… and they nerfed it.
You improved BM buidls.. and they nerfed pets.
Are you sure you want to show videos of a new build that works?
Well, at least now we know what the next nerf will be. XDDDD
I’d love to see existing models as tamable pets, with the following abilities:
- Griffon (with knockdown)
- Raptor (for daze)
- Basilisk (with inmobilize)
- Rock Dog (causing bleeds)
- Bat (could cause confussion)
- Crab (F2 invulnerability)
- Tropical Bird (as condition cleaner)
- Dolphin (don’t know… hitting hard for push?)
- Lunar Wolf (for the new Torment condition)
- Ooze (with pull)
You seem mad! Care to tell us why………
As I said, I do not complain about getting killed, I couldn’t care less. I complain about the behaviour after getting killed, which really gets out of hand at the moment. Dancing on corpses, /laughing, jumping on corpses, and right now even in game whispers from obviously younger (i.e. immature) players insulting me (screenshots and reports did go out) is outright pathetic.
I’ve found this behaviour fom people of every server (including my own). I also find it disgusting and the only times I’ve /laughted over someone is when that person has been laughing/dancing/jumping over me repeatedly and I manage to catch him later.
On the other hand, I’ve also found many respectful oponents that bow and greet me after a good fight, and I try to do the same if possible.
I guess we have to live/play with those people. A shame we can’t punch them on the fice :p
1- If you throw a proyectile finisher through a water field, it may grant regeneration to your allies if the proyectile passes through them.
2- Yes, pets are allies.
Healing spring works best with drakes, because their Tail attack is a Blast finisher (area healing to nearby allies if the attack is done over a water field).
BB you crack me up. =)
3:30 a.m. cest… big BB blob having fun alone with 10+ golems and paper doors in eb?
So… if another guilds/servers do PvDoor while we sleep/study/work and nobody is in the maps, it’s fine.
But we can’t do it. Can you explain why?
