I never have problems starting up some sort of general chitchat in /m. People start talking, once you start talking. If I’m at an event in the early morning, say Rhendak, and there’s 12-15 other players around, nobody saying a word, I’ll just start talking in /s, e.g., “Good morning! We’re not very talkative today, are we? Everyone buried deep in their news papers, sipping their coffee?”—It doesn’t take more than that to have people start talking about everything and anything while we wait. Yes, EU can be a bit quiet, because people don’t want to intrude upon others. But they are more than capable of engaging themselves in conversation, should someone take the initiative to start one. They’re also extremely helpful if you for some reason should have a question about something. For every question I see asked, I see 5-10 people answering.

Don’t want a Mesmer to kill you? Pick any direction, any direction at all, you have full and complete freedom of choice here. Now start moving in it. Ok, a bit exaggerated, but it almost is the case. If they don’t blow you up in their burst, or if they’re simply not built for burst, you can just leg it in a direction and we can’t catch you.

Also, focus us with your team when you spot us. We’re annoying, we deal relatively good AoE burst damage. But we’re squishy and have limited defenses, so pressure us to use them all and down us, or at the very least to get out—you’ll be fine. It’s one of the mistakes I see opposing teams not taking care of when I’ve watched these sPvP streams on Twitch. They leave the Mesmer alone and/or don’t focus him/her enough to get out.

  • Main focus: Conditions implementation re-vamped
    • How, I do not know, it’s not a easy task.
  • Outfits as individual pieces, separately dyable (like they were in the past)
  • At least one new (existing) weapon to every profession
    • E.g., hammer to Engineer, dagger to Mesmer, etc.
  • At least one Legendary trinket added
  • Precursor crafting implemented
    • I have all the weapons I want mind you, this is more for others than for me.
  • Tokens and reward vendors expanded to encompass mostly everything
    • WvW Rank Up Chests, PvE World Events, etc.

As bored as I can get with Guild Wars 2, as tired as I can get with design choices, as frustrated I can get at certain balance. When it comes down to it. No other game feels like this one in the MMO market today. It feels fluid, smooth, well executed. There’s something about this MMO’s combat, that just aren’t there in the other ones. ArenaNet did it right. Now that’s not to say I wouldn’t like a few alternative choices for 1-5, a few more Elite skills, etc.—but gameplay wise, this game is years ahead of the competition. The aesthetics are also in a league of their own. The details gone into these maps are absolutely gorgeous.

I agree that we need more transparency on things to come though. No estimated windows for these things unless it’s more of a set in stone thing mind you, but still, more hype, more excitement. I don’t think an expansion is necessary. It would definitely help, but just some continuous tidbits of information would go a long way to keep players engaged and excited. Show us some samples of new sPvP maps. Discuss ideas you have of game modes, engage the community asking for feedback in a specific forum topic. Tease us with work in progress stuff. And let us know when there’s delays. Give us more in-depth information about what it is that is the design philosophy behind bigger (and smaller) changes. Let us see into your minds a bit. Show us the world from your side of the game. It’d be interesting besides exciting to hear about new things that is in the works. (Obviously some things, such as future story implementations, should be kept as spoiler free as possible, but a few teases here and there, perhaps a render of a dragon with no real explanation to it, such things, can really generate hype and excitement.)

I know we have people datamining already. The information and excitement in that sense is there. Sort of. But it’d be nice to get it through official channels. With an insight into what you’re planning ahead as well. Just try to avoid mentioning things you don’t see yourself feasibly doing within a years time, and even then, make it clear that this is work in progress, subject to change, or that it will potentially not to be implemented at all, at least in the form as shown in this sneak preview, etc.—Some players will always get frustrated, even rational ones will, but a lot of the players are understanding enough if you were to say something has been delayed/cancelled. The bigger frustration comes from not being told what’s going on. Especially on things you are highly passionate and excited for. You’re left questioning, wondering. Uncertainty is frustration.

The tragedy that is megaserver

I never have trouble tagging enemies, and I play a freaking Mesmer. I don’t perhaps tag every enemy, but I never have problems tagging into an event. Why should I expect to tag everything anyways? I have never had problems getting the “Gold” reward for completing an event unless I reached it late, I participate easily, achieving that and getting any associated reward chest from it. I get my bonus chest(s) without any real effort needed at every larger world event I go to. I’ve never had a problem tagging Champions to get a bag (if they drop one, not every Champion in the game does after all). The problem here isn’t necessarily that the events are done quickly, is it, it’s seemingly more so that you can’t tag every little thing, and as such, the horror, you have a little bit less chance at loot from trash mobs. There’s also still a need to avoid incoming damage, regardless if you’re 30 or 100 players at an event. At easier ones, this is trivial, but it is regardless of how many players are there..

There’s a large number of events I run by that has nobody doing them, so I do them, I get to do a load of events on my own or with a few other players around, it’s just not the very few specific “farming”-events that players seem to love and choo-choo around the map in circles to do.

I tend to see a plethora of the same people on the maps I travel to, because you know, the system actually works like that. It will pool your server together as much as it can, your friends, your guildies, other players you’ve been playing with a lot. My map chatter is often by/with the same people. My Lion’s Arch is a Seafarer’s Rest dominated map (yeah, it’s not a small server is it), I see the same guilds, the same players. Such is the case for other maps I go to as well. Sure, at large events, that’s not always the case. But on the notion of large player counts, I have my character culling settings set to Low and Low, and while I see a lot of nameplates, I still see a few well dressed characters in my closest vicinity, and I also have no framerate issues from the large player count. Imagine that. Lower your settings if you do, I get a stable 60 fps and this PC is about 5 years old now. It doesn’t mean it has to look disgustingly bad, I’m fine with how my game looks. I’m dominantly a WvW player, I need my performance to be there in large scale clashes, but I sure wouldn’t want to run around with everything on the lowest settings. Strike a balance and play with the settings a bit. The engine isn’t bad. Tab-target to the bosses if they take a while to load for you, you can still attack and deal damage to things that are not shown on your screen as more than a nameplate. It’s not like you’ll tab target to your allies.

Temples, again, are pretty much guaranteed to be lost within 3 hours. Sure, after about 1h 30m give or take, the first defense event isn’t all that difficult and some players will enjoy doing those for whatever reason, and I think we should all respect that, but the one that follows about an hour after that, are pretty much guaranteed to be failed. Also, really.. The Frozen Maw.. challenging? I’ve done that with 3 people in the past with how it currently functions, without it being what I’d call challenging. I solo’d Tequatl, at night, before its changes for that matter.

And empty maps, I also can agree that the solitude of certain areas was nice, and it still is. It’s not like there’s 10 characters packed into every inch of a map here. It’s just much more populated, so you’ll run past 4-5 players doing their thing, every so often, instead of running around doing a full map completion, not seeing anyone. In the past, it was just a sad empty state some months past the games launch. Players were to be found in just a few maps and a few maps only. Also Orr, the Waypoints were always contested.. annoyingly so. At least they’re not contested all the time now.

And on my note of disgust towards certain people, that is the people who go crazy and yell out the nastiest things at people for simply having done an event when the choo-choo train wasn’t there. As if it was some of the worst crimes one could do to play the game, like intended, doing events as you see them, should you so choose.

anet's lack of transparency

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Absconditus.6804

I don’t know. The forums bring up the whole Precursor Crafting thing again, and again. Yet the Devs posted about it being delayed, and then delayed again, and in fact, stated they had to basically start over with it.

Yet no one seems to remember, even though it’s been posted the Devs stated this many times.

Thus, I’m not sure ‘transparency’ does any good. It seems like many only hear (read) what they wish to, and ignore what they don’t. /shrug

I haven’t seen any mentions of it during 2014. If it’s in some random forum posts, yes, of course players will miss it. It’s not always about ignoring what you don’t want to hear, it can be that you haven’t even seen it, since it gets buried within hours as new topics and posts are done. Transparency should in majority come through official posts on the website, where they can have specific topics linked for discussion on what is being showcased, should that be desired by the development team. That way it’s less likely to fly past people. It’s not like Search works on these forums, it searches the active page (as if you were to do a Ctrl+F search through your browser), not the entire forum as a whole.

Now we do have the Dev Tracker, but that unfortunately has once in a while gotten flooded with responses in regards to tickets and delayed handling times (which surprise me, as I have always gotten a response within just 3-4 hours of submitting my ticket, their support team is the most stellar one I’ve ever encountered in this industry—ArenaNet, give those guys and gals some cake! They deserve it!), stuff not related to the game and its advancement. It’s also a bit out of context at times, and you sift through several posts where they are just being humans, interacting, which is awesome and I wouldn’t want that changed for the world. Even if it feels like there’s a lack of transparency at times, seeing all the communication they do, especially Gaile, is awesome nonetheless.

anet's lack of transparency

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Absconditus.6804

There is definitely a thing such as too much information. And I wouldn’t want all too many spoilers for future Living World story tidbits (though, I have the option to not read about it and/or watch trailers, even if some spoilerish information was provided on some release web page. I can take the step to prevent it getting spoiled for me by not seeking information on it, the same way you don’t need to read the description of a book and/or watch a movie trailer). But still, some more transparency wouldn’t be unwelcome. E.g., the NPE could’ve been mentioned in advance, not just get dropped like a bombshell without no logical explanation on the development behind it. You shared the logical ideas behind it as people raged and got frustrated (over some things that was stated to be bugged, but I question if they actually were, rather than rushed “fixes” done, thanks to player feedback and discontent), but why wasn’t it revealed sooner, with that logical thinking behind the implementation explained before the outcry. E.g., “In the upcoming months, we are planning to create a better experience for new players of Guild Wars 2, and MMORPG games as a whole. We will be removing bundle items in the immediate starter areas, this is because…” (sorry, I still don’t see why you did that, heh). “…these changes are not yet finalized, and things are highly likely to change during its development. We do currently not have a ETA on the release of this new system.”

As an example of transparency, I loved that Colin basically gave us something to get excited about during his PAX 2013 interview(s), mentioning a Legendary trinket, Precursor crafting, both as things that should be seen before the end of 2013 it was said. This was transparency, exciting information! Hammers for Engineer’s was even brought up. I don’t play my Engineer but got super excited for those who do. But there is a problem with such transparency too, more so when they aren’t followed through on (for whatever reason). He said these things should come before the end of 2013 (not the Hammer for Engineer mind you), and that yearly end came and went. It’s now practically a year since he stated those things, and the excitement turns sour, you wonder what in the world happened. This and that was to come, it sounded so certain, then nothing. No words about it since. And there the transparency falls short. I don’t think it should ever be stated that x and y is coming within a period of z, or if it is planned for a very specific window and that information is shared, but then there are unfortunate delays—then at the very least it needs to be transparency included on that as well. You shouldn’t say, expect this and that before the end of the year, then when it doesn’t happen, you don’t even address it. You zip your lips and go silent. That’s just frustrating. Don’t get me wrong with this example, I’m not blaming Colin here for anything, I don’t hold a grudge against him. He is clearly passionate about the game, you could tell from these interviews. He wants the best for the game as much as any player does and were excited about sharing some plans. I just wish it had been followed up on, either by explaining that this is likely to be put on the sideline for a year/indefinite time, as you have more pressing matters to focus your development time into right now, but that it’s not forgotten, or better yet, when it’s been mentioned, that it was actually finalized, and shipped.

I understand that it’s hard to be open about things. I know that players aren’t rational, they are passionate, as are developers of course. Some more information on things to come, especially things you have nearly finished developing, would be nice though. Proper information at that when it’s rather large changes such as what the NPE patch introduced. Why, can help explain the choices and philosophy behind something. In advance, can help prevent a shock and outrage. CDI’s are great as well.

[New Weapon Suggestion] Scythe

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

First I want to see all current weapons expanded to all professions. Yes, even if I cringe at the idea, that includes Rifles and Hammers on professions such as Thief, Elementalist and Mesmer. Then I would like to see more weapon types added, Scythe isn’t that unlikely considering it already existed in Guild Wars. By now, two whole years in, I would’ve hoped they had added at least one “new” (existing) weapon to every profession, but they seem to prioritize other things, such as the NPE. I guess the NPE is why we never got the borderline promised legendary trinket(s) before the end of 2013, and precursor scavenger hunt as well. There’s a lot of things that was supposedly coming before 2013 was over, now it’s nearing the end of a year since then, with none of these things having been implemented. We have gotten other things though.

The tragedy that is megaserver

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Absconditus.6804

Absconditus.6804

Let’s make Guild Wars 2 seem dead again? What exactly is the benefit here? I have never had trouble getting the Temples done since the Megaserver implementation. I have never had trouble getting the World Events done. The only one that does not get done, which would very unlikely change, is Triple Trouble. So what is the tragedy here? What is the horrific thing to the Megaserver system? Prior to it, I would run around on alts leveling up, not seeing a single person for hours. I’d say the system is doing what it set out to do.

What rose-tinted glasses are you wearing, saying Guild Wars’ District instances is such a great system? It is for the towns and outposts only, and it was pretty much a fact that everyone gathered in North America – District 1, regardless of where you were from. That happens to this day, just that today there’s barely anywhere that has more than one district (Spammadan only maintains two). The system as-is in Guild Wars 2, does have the similar underlying mechanic of automatically allocating new instances of the maps, so technically, there could probably be a list implemented, but for what? Everyone would end up flocking to the same maps anyways and they’d be frustrated when they can’t enter them since they are always full.

I’ve seen complaints of all sorts about the new Megaserver hindering the ability to do x, y and z. All it does, is on the bottom line of things, hindering laziness. “Oh, I can’t do my Daily, because..”, shut it, yes you can, there’s numerous other locations than that one freaking guide you read on how to do them. Good for you, you can read, but stop being lazy and blaming the Megaserver for you not being able to easily complete something, learn where things are. You can’t use a 3rd party map to go gather nodes, but it takes no time at all to run around and look for nodes. You’re being lazy. (Also, you can, use /ip if that’s what you really want to do.) If you want a “Karma-train”, go to EotM, that’s the PvE’s choo-choo map these days. Otherwise, don’t expect every event to be done on a rotated cycle just for you and a few other players, that is so stupid, dare I say, lame. Let people freaking do events when they see them, without you going all haywire on their faces for just trying to play the game as intended. The insults you sometimes see because someone has done an event before the train gets to it.. some people in this world baffles me, they disgust me.

EoTM Bane or Savior?

in WvW

Posted by: Absconditus.6804

Absconditus.6804

I’m all for EotM existing, I agree it is filling a desire/need of the community at this point, I didn’t read more than some of the later replies of this topic however. I think they could just as well take the PvP out of it at this point granted. Take it out of the Mists, or at the very least not associate it with WvW (Ranks). EotM could have been a WvW map, but it is excluded from the matchup, and it is as such, not interesting to those interested in WvW as a war effort. Who in their right mind cares that it places a supply source in your home border? Oh, I better leave my other map and get some Supply from there, it sure helps that it can’t be made +5 too, right?

EotM got turned into a PvE map, because PvP players interested in WvW, aren’t interested in running around in a map that doesn’t help win the war against two other servers. Since they never took interest, PvE’ers has taken over the map, turning it into some silly (disgusting when thinking about what it could have been) pseudo-PvP thing, where servers run around in circles avoiding each other most of the time.

You could “Karma-train” Eternal Battleground or any of the copy-pasta Borderland maps as well. It just doesn’t happen, because there is an actual struggle going on there to win. You win nothing granted (3x hoorah for empty rewards!), but some seem to still have their fun being on the winning side of a matchup. I get a bit sad when I see Edge of the Mists. I’d play on it, if it had PvP, if it had been a part of the matchup. It’s a beautiful map after all. Shame they ended up implementing it how they did.

Again though, take out WXP from Edge of the Mists. It’s not a WvW map, not a part of the matchup and war effort, you shouldn’t be able to get WvW Ranks there in my humble opinion.

Paying Transmute Charges for Gem Store Armor

I came here to make a post but I’ll just add it to this one. It’s really annoying buying a set of armor to use a few pieces out of it then you hold onto the rest in case you want them should let you right click and turn them into charges so you don’t have to mule them

Got to add my voice to this too. I really hate how much skin items are taking up space in my Bank and across my various characters by now. I tend to buy most skins, I tend to earn most skins that’s not buyable. With the “new” Wardrobe system, why not let us just make skins into Transmutation charges instead of it taking up all this space. I can’t even buy more Inventory or Bank slots here, ArenaNet. I guess an alternative option would be if you gave us more Bank slots (to buy), but I would prefer just turning skins into charges, so that I can potentially add the remaining parts of a set (I wanted just one part of a set in some of my combinations of gear) at some later time, without these inventory issues.

Be honest here, Dyne, you’re not getting hundreds of whispers from hundreds of players each and every day. You’re getting a bare few whispers out of the potential hundreds of players that is actually following you. I swear, some MMO players are the most anti-social people within gaming. They hate map/say chat, they can’t stand whispers and if someone dares to write in a language other than theirs, they throw a tantrum because they can’t understand. It’s a game, who’s stalking you? Nobody, unless you go around telling everyone who you are in real life, knows who you are. Why is it different blocking someone over saying no to a friend request? “Why did you not accept x friend request?”, your same scenarios applies perfectly fine there.—You’re making such a huge deal out of a good system. As if you’re some amazing person most of us should care about. We don’t. You’re just a player, the same way you don’t give two cents about me running around. Stop thinking you’re stalker-worthy.

Sigil of Battle and Sigil of Energy.

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Absconditus.6804

Absconditus.6804

I want my traits to be the meat of the build and everything else to either add to it or slightly compensate for weaknesses, not completely cover them.

A build is everything, not just your Traits. It is your selected stats, down to fine tuning your exact Critical Chance, Health and so on forth. It’s your Sigils, your choice in weapons for your profession, your Runes, the combination of different Runes at that for some builds.. at least when not thinking about the all too boring sPvP and it’s limited ability to create interesting builds due to lack of customization in all of the above.

The fact that everything plays in, makes it so that you can have basically the same exact Traits and weapons do vastly different things for you, based on your other choices, such as the stats, Runes, and Sigils. That’s thanks to how the skills are designed, with a lot of them dealing conditional and physical damage. Where you place your focus is up to you. I like that.

Battle is nice, I use it currently, but I haven’t used it before recently when I wanted a bit more Might stacking on my new/altered Mesmer build. It’s the first time I’ve felt I want it in two whole years. Energy however, I have used since forever, Deceptive Evasion, that’s about it. I shouldn’t need to explain it.

It serves other purposes, such as not being an annoyance to other allies who are attacking the same targets, so you get to use your knockback skill, which happens to also deal damage, and they don’t get frustrated that you just pushed targets out of their range. Only time I really use Illusionary Wave is when I wish to get a Thief out of Shadow Refuge anyways. I sure won’t target that against a wall, I’ll knock ’em out sideways if I have to.

Could Combat Be Improved?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Absconditus.6804

Press that 1-key to keep attacking without a target. If you’re using a ranged weapon, practice how to aim with it, it’s not too hard and doesn’t need a little dot to help. With professions such as Mesmer being forced into having targets, or a majority of their skills refuses to work, targeting is a required mechanic of the game (unfairly so at times, when fighting professions that doesn’t need a target for high damage skills. Phantasms are parts of our damage bursts). You don’t need to tab-target anyways, that is a very slow method of acquiring a target, when you could have simply aimed your mouse cursor at them and clicked.

You seemingly want the mouse to do things other than controlling the camera with your right click suggestion, and that’d be horrible in my opinion. It would have to be locked and turn your character as you look around you, yuck. Talk about hindering situational awareness. Active blocking, while a neat enough idea.. there’s 3 professions out of 8 that can use a Shield. Uhm.. balance?

There are several skills that are used by throwing them down on your allies, water fields, fire fields, Null Field, Symbol of Swiftness, Time Warp.. it’s ground targeted, but you target it on allies in most cases. You just don’t target-target them, in the sense that you’d lose your ability to fight while providing support. There’s a reason these beneficial skills aren’t requiring you to target an ally after all.

Suggestions for the game is great, but I don’t see why you would suggest any of what you just suggested. If anything, this game has some pretty darn good combat over most games. I also don’t think downed state needs to go, but they should definitely re-visit how some of them work. Elementalists should not be allowed to go through portals when downed.. that is just stupid and broken. With how you can’t stomp under water (that whole drowned system needs a re-visit), the Ranger pet-resurrect is way too strong. Some downed states, such as the Mesmer one are just terrible (or, I mean yay.. Confusion application on a target that are not going to attack you anymore.. a random teleport that can end up moving you as far as the width of your kitten-crack.. it’s horrible..). And so on forth. These are issues that’s been there since launch, that they have decided to omit fixing. It’s about time they do, starting with Elementalists using the downed state Vapor Form, not being allowed to go through portals and enter the safety of enemy structures in PvP if they go down. It’s ridiculous that they’ve been allowed to do that for two whole years.. (I know Immobilize can counter it, but it should simply not be required, or every profession should have a similar option.)

All I see is a average Warrior player with really predictable skill usage that will get shut down instantly by someone who knows how to play. Cherry-picking clips of fights that you had against players with less skill than yours doesn’t make you good. I don’t see what this has to do with Profession Balance either, wrong forums.

Battle is not something you may care that much for unless your purpose is to try get higher Might stacks on your own for a specific build. On their own, they can at most provide 6 stacks of Might, not that that’s bad, but.. that’s after 20 seconds if you’re able to squeeze out every skill on each weapon within practically seconds (not too smart). Energy gives you one dodge, every 10 seconds, if you swap your weapon at that time. I don’t see the reason for complaint here. Keep in mind that their ICD is 9 seconds, and weapon swaps take 10 seconds to be available in most cases. You may not want to swap then.

I will quit this game the second they would do this. I get frustrated and feel like quitting a lot of times, but this would nail that feeling down to becoming a reality. I specifically do not play sPvP all that much, because I hate how limited control I have over my stats there (and well, I find Capture the Point to be a bit stale, boring, not as entertaining). It severely hampers build options when you have such limited control over individual stats and even the ability to combine different Runes. There’s a plethora of builds that works in World vs. World, that simply are not effective what so ever for sPvP, be that because of stats, Rune combinations and/or both.

If anything, I’d rather see all PvE options available to sPvP. You have access to all stats, all Runes, everything the same way, just not food buffs or guard stacks. At least that’d help open up for a few more builds in sPvP, instead of everyone practically running around with the same boring meta builds all over the place.

If you want to counter Guardians, play a Guardian, for a while at that. Give Guardian a go through PvE to get familiar with the skills and traits a bit by bit. By all means, boost it to 40, but after that start actually playing it. Once you reach (or on your way to) Lv.80, take them for a go through World vs. World. Then start toying around in sPvP. It’s the best way to counter any profession, knowing how they function, how they will typically use rotations, when what is going to be on recharge periods and taking advantage at the right times. Learn to be your worst enemy. That way you can outplay yourself when you meet another player with that profession and build.

Discrimination? (Non-English chat language)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Absconditus.6804

Absconditus.6804

Yes, map chat is clearly purely to get help and to organize. Let us all be antisocial and afraid of chatting in a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. That’s why we play them, right? Because we hate to socialize with others. Oh wait, it’s also to chit-chat, but if it’s in language we don’t understand, then it’s babbling and nonsense, and that is rude. Wait, what? Who’s being rude here really? Us English speakers, dictating what is the allowed language, or them for just communicating with each other in language we don’t understand? I ask again, what is this obsessive compulsive need to understand everything that’s being said. 90% of a map won’t even engage themselves in map chit-chat normally, even when it is in understandable English (to us English-speakers anyways). What does it matter the relatively few times we see a different language? I just don’t get it.

As I said before, I will never understand people who lets someone else talking about something, get to them. If it’s a sensitive subject, sure, I can understand that making people get fired up, but when they’re just having fun talking to each other, then I have no understanding as to why that would be frustrating and why you would want to block someone for it. If map chat breaks your immersion, I recommend disabling it altogether.

Make Wizards Hat dyable

Absconditus.6804

I think there’s a bigger issue they should aim their efforts at first. Something that has been on my annoyances list for roughly two years now. Hats.. makes you bald. It doesn’t matter how lush and nice your hairstyle is, you go bald the moment you put on a hat. How about some generic “tucked up”-looking hairstyles attached to these items, which takes the hair color of your character into consideration to give the illusion of it being your hair? If your character is in fact bald, then of course, that is not a problem, but it is for those who aren’t. If they’d let us dye some things like the Wizard(s) Hat (Oh my freaking kitten kitten kitten kitten’d kitten.. this kitten filter, it can go kitten.. let’s add a few more kitten for good measure. I hate this filter..), that’d be welcome, but if I weren’t bloody bald with these things, I’d welcome that far more. It’s great little items that I never use because they just don’t work together with my character when I go bald because of them. Nothing against balding people in real life, you’re beautiful, but my character is not bald.

Or to any other Waypoint in the game with an abundance of downed NPC’s for reviving. There’s several places to do everything in the Daily requirements.

where are all the cool armor skins at?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Absconditus.6804

Absconditus.6804

Some very high quality skins has been released through the Gem Store, as full costumes (sadly). I absolutely love the Ceremonial Plated and Shadow Assassin sets, but it would be so much better if it were separate pieces of equipment, so you could mix and match with other gear designs. It’s a shame they’ve designed the outfits like one full piece of gear (which you can still hide Helmet, Shoulders and Gloves from by ticking them off on your gear, meaning they are perfectly capable of being separate pieces already..). I wish they’d redesign the costume system to let you hide and show each individual piece, dye each individual piece, and have equipment show up in their place if they are hidden. If you’d furthermore hide your equipment, it would show “skin” as it currently functions.

It’s of course also a shame that some of the best looking stuff are £/€/$-based through the Gem Store. It’d be nice to see an actual nice couple sets of gears added to the game. I do like parts of the Ascended though, that is a new design, at least we have gotten something. Maybe when they get around to adding Legendary armor, we can have unique designs with subtle neat effects for each of the professions? (Imagine the pink-purple glow around the character (I don’t mean the background, the glow as seen around the legs and hand), the flaring glowing eye, some sort of effect on the characters hair, draining parts of it white (sucks to be you, if you got white as a haircolor)—Things like that as you cast your Mesmer spells)

Uhm.. never, yup, pretty much never. I can go to World vs. World to do it. I can do it together with other players resurrecting NPC’s. Or with a friend who jumps to their death, then I do it for them, etc.—Only thing I “compete” for is to get into one map when Tequatl is about to begin. At certain hours you can have multiple overflows capable of taking it down, but that’s not always the case. We tend to form parties there too, in order to be able to spam Join on players in that overflow you were in, should you be so unfortunate as to disconnect. Aquatic slayer I never need to compete with anyone for, ever. I usually do that in Frostgorge Sound, I get all the enemies to myself.

Oh, it’s very true that the guaranteed rewards are once per day, but it’s still guaranteed rewards you can sell and/or salvage. I’ve spent over 12 hour sessions in World vs. World without getting Rare drops, I’ve gotten a ton of Blue and Green items though, and I’m fine with that, but I wish I’d see a few more Rare every now and again. I have 300% Magic Find (not using nourishment, because that’s better served to be actual statistical benefits to damage, survival or otherwise), and I would hope it affects my drops a tiny bit. It sure doesn’t feel like it. Badge rewards you can’t salvage, and I don’t care for wearing Exotics, I want the best, the best is Ascended. I don’t want Ascended to be given to me on a silver platter though, I’m fine with those being rare, I just wish we could select stats when we actually luck out and finally see them. Yay.. I got Healing Power, just what I wanted in my shatter build.. oh wait, I have no builds I want to play with this statistical combination, and I can’t sell it to others, nor can I salvage it.. I can get 2 Silver for a reward that took ages to get. Yay?

I’m not saying go crazy and make everything drop like rain drops during a rainy day. I’m saying tweak the drop rates slightly. Make Rare occur a tiny bit more, Exotics a tiny bit more and Ascended be the rare stuff, but let us select the stats on the Ascended drop, don’t RNG it making us get a bunch of gear with stats we don’t want, that we aren’t allowed to trade with others/salvage. If they allowed us to trade them, salvage them, that’d be different though.

@Vayne, Sure, and you said the rewards were fine, and I disagreed. The Lv.76 part of these specific rewards, sure that’s alright, especially when considering they may have very nice upgrades on them, but overall, the World vs. World rewards are definitely not fine. Mostly any World vs. World player will tell you they don’t exactly feel rewarded for playing their game mode, compared to those that focus their efforts in PvE. Same goes for sPvP players I guess.

@Draknar, and I can get 7 guaranteed Rare or better items from doing world events in that time frame. You can literally tag the boss and AFK until it dies, and you’ll be rewarded. Then you need to Waypoint, and repeat. That’s also not counting potential Rare or better items from the chests and champion bags obtained from these events. WvW players also don’t go to EotM, PvE players does. EotM is a PvE map with optional PvP. If you say you’re a WvW player and you only spend your time in EotM, any WvW player who contributes to the war effort will simply laugh at you. But at least the EotM players need to move around constantly, so they have to put some effort into it. I’m not saying players at, e.g., Jormag aren’t putting the effort into it, but it’s not actually necessary. Obviously if everyone acted like that, it would fail, but there’s bound to be a few who just slacks (I know at Jormag, a huge amount of players toy around with the Champions instead of the actual task of destroying the ice pillars, helping to get the golems to hit him, so we can DPS up close).

No, Vayne, they are not fine. They are a good idea, but poorly implemented, like pretty much all rewards in this game currently. It feels unrewarding to get a reward. Once in a blue moon you may feel a tiny bit lucky, you see an Ascended drop in there, but then it’s of the completely wrong stats compared to what you may want. I’m not saying Ascended should be rewarded like raining candy, but would it be that much to ask to let players select what they want, when they do once in a very rare case get one as a reward? I don’t think it is at least. Exotics are overly rare. Rare’s are even excessively rare from these Rank Up reward chests. You get Greens, mostly Greens. Salvage-fodder. I rarely get excited about the rewards in this game. Some event ones have been fun to work for, collecting the halo and devil horns was fun, it was something I could spend tokens on and work towards. Perhaps that’s something they should do more. Tokens. Vendors with rewards.

They can keep some things random, but if you at least always get a token out of a reward chest, you can feel like after so and so many ranks, you can get this and that which you are interested in. This could be a system that is used everywhere for that matter.

Dungeons does this right at least. Laurels do it right as well. They just need more things to select from.

Actually the rewards in this game remind me very much of the rewards in Guild Wars 1. After playing for a couple of years, I was almost never excited about a drop. The rares were pretty much worthless. Nothing to be excited about. The greens were mostly worthless. It was a very long haul between exciting rewards in Guild Wars 1.

People wanted this game to be more like that one. lol

I think they’re night and day. In Guild Wars, pretty much nothing was bound to you, you could even use things and decide to sell it later. The BDS, CC, Frog Scepter, Voltaic Spear, Dhuum’s Soul Reaper and so on forth, were and still are valuable items, items you could sell if you didn’t want them yourself. The daily reward, the Copper Coins, which you could then turn into Silver- and Gold Coins, could be sold. If only we could sell our Laurels, yeah? You could practically sell everything that wasn’t armor or that you hadn’t customized to yourself. Miniatures, all of them were possible to sell. You could even sell your dedicated miniatures.. This game, everything is practically Soul-/Account Bound. I wouldn’t dare compare the greatness that was Guild Wars to Guild Wars 2 when it comes to rewards. Granted, in GW, most rewards were weapon skins, identifiable armor scraps for salvage (with a chance at getting armor upgrades, some few at a decent value) and trophy items that could be traded in for cool stuff, like the Chaos Gloves. I wish we could collect trophy items here for stuff like that btw.

Considering how many rank chests you end up getting (thousands), I wouldn’t expect them to give more than salvage fodder anyway. Be happy with anything yellow and above.

Consider how many guaranteed rewards I’ve gotten from world events (thousands), your point was? It requires a bit more activity in general to rank up in WvW, much more than it does to tag and AFK events in the PvE environment.

But getting Rares and Exotics now, aren’t exciting. So what’s the difference? Rares are as common as sugar in a river of candy from world events. Exotics, not so much, but I still just salvage them, it’s not like either are worth anything, a Gold is nothing. I’m not excited about their presence when they appear. Ascended, a bit more excitement might be involved, but I tend to get stats I already have, or that I don’t even want, and I can’t salvage them, nor can I sell them to and/or give them away to other players. So that kills any initial “yay”-moment that may be had from seeing the pink text. Overall, I ain’t excited about the rewards we get in this game. My friends weren’t either, and it caused them to quit. Well a combination of that and how they felt there weren’t any promise to the end-game.

I’m more excited about earning Laurels, at least I were, until I had what I wanted, why it’d be nice to see more things added to their reward tables. As drops, Rare is too rare. Exotics are non-existing (practically, as I’ve gotten perhaps 3-4 Exotics from drops in the wild from random enemies, over the course of two whole years, with plenty of “trash mob” killing. I just like killing enemies and using my skills). Bumping them up a slight bit would at least give you a reason to not just run past all the enemies.

That doesn’t mean they should be super common, just a slight bit more common than currently, because right now they are ridiculous, unless you’re looking at the guaranteed reward after doing a world event. This was nonetheless about Rank Up chests, which contains Greens. Greens are not exciting, ever.

Thief is best in a situation like this. I can stealth, run to the other end of the boss room and watch the boss run straight at me when I drop stealth. Seems like we steal game mechanics too O.o

This is a downside to how they fixed that enemies would instantly reset when we went into stealth in the earlier days of the game. This caused them to run back to their patrol paths, resetting their health in the process. Let’s just say that was extremely annoying. How it works now is perhaps just as annoying, but I guess it’s fair enough. The enemy knows that you are there, somewhere, it just doesn’t know where yet, so it is waiting for you to reveal yourself. Discrimination? (Non-English chat language)

Absconditus.6804

I’m in agreement that the guy speaking in german was being rude, if you specifically set it so that you are in the english channel you should be speaking english

You haven’t set anything, anywhere, to say that you should be in a “English channel”. You have set your GAME User Interface and NPC dialogue, be that text and/or audio, to be English. What language players communicate with in chat is not a part of this, obviously. Servers are in small ways a part of this, but overall, with the Mega Server pooling players together in order to avoid empty maps, chances are you will get a few players of different languages on the same overflow. In what way is it RUDE to speak your own language? Why do you need to know what they are saying? I think it’s rude of anyone to expect people who wish to speak in their own language, to speak in a different language simply because some players have this obsessive compulsive need to know everything that’s being said. Things they 90% of the time don’t even care about and won’t engage in.

Why in the world do you need to understand it? There’s probably 40 other players on the map, that you can chat with, in English, if you want to chat with someone. Note that I am a English writing and speaking individual, I just get really annoyed at people saying nonsense such as it being rude to speak in a language other than your own. It’s the opposite, it’s rude to expect them to speak your language.

If they join your Party when you advertised it with the English language option and american flag (which doesn’t make sense, it should be the UK flag, but whatever), then proceed to speak in a different language, then sure, that is rude on their part. If they wrote something in the map chat, that’s hardly rude, that’s just them socializing and you not understanding what is being said. Boohoo, big deal. Why not just look at that as any other map chat which you don’t care to engage in.

It’s what people would consider to be a “cheese”-type of build, but if it works for you and you find it fun, stick with it. Don’t let others dictate what you can and can’t enjoy.

You probably want to keep the Torch for your Prismatic Understanding, you could probably even toss out the Mantra of Resolve for Veil, to give yourself even more of a stealth upkeep (remember to enter it twice). You already got a lot of mitigation against conditions through the stealth, and with the current traits, you are removing several conditions from simply healing. Veil would allow you to be what feels like nearly permanently in and out of stealth to your opponents. It can be highly confusing if you re-position yourself well.

There’s nothing that I can see which are specifically flawed in your build. Perhaps you don’t need the Phantasmal Fury as much, but even that’s fine. Maybe you want to take a Sigil of Energy in there. I would fix that one white boot you’re wearing though, haha.

Most people will however, simply run away from you, and you may have noticed that. Nobody likes to fight a PU Mesmer, we all know the Mesmer profession can’t chase that well, and it’s less of a time sink, to simply run in a selected direction and lose them.

If you ever get a bit tired of the PU trait, give Chaotic Interruption a go perhaps. That can be very fun too, but it requires a little bit of practice to efficiently interrupt other players however (and you probably want to swap in either Pistol and/or Mantra of Distraction at that point). Also try to mask your Illusionary Counter if you’re not already doing it. Chaos Armor can help disguise it a bit, or your stealth of course.

And none of this resolves the issue with conditions in larger scale encounters. E.g., Tequatl, Jormag, Shatterer and so on forth. In such encounters you may be looking at a hundred players participating, where as 30 of these may be built for conditions. Very few of these players gets to contribute effectively, compared to the 70 other players that are dealing physical damage, focusing their builds on this. It’s a terrible system. It needs a complete revamp, to be reworked. It should be the focus of a Feature Patch in the future, since it is a big undertaking to resolve this.

One thing’s for certain, if everyone is able to contribute more efficiently with conditions as their focus, we need stats such as Toughness to affect them. In the current system, of course it’s not as needed, in a better system with more damage sources, obviously we do.

PS: There is such a thing as a condition burst as well, applied in the same way you would apply a physical burst, after you exhaust your targets defenses (dodges, cleanses). If you don’t know how to play with conditions, fine, it shouldn’t be held against you, but you can spike people very fast in certain builds (on certain professions). More so in WvW.

Discrimination? (Non-English chat language)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Absconditus.6804

Absconditus.6804

Uhm.. there’s no chat filter to filter other languages. There’s a Language option, to set the game’s text (and audio) to a certain language, you know.. NPC’s and the UI, those kinds of things. It has nothing to do with the chat and players communicating with eachother. I mean, you must be seriously limited in intellect to think otherwise..

What? Are the game using a dictionary to make sure what language you’re writing?

Sure, there are filtering mechanics involved in the Mega Server system and how that is structured, as it will try to place you together with your friends, your guild, and also players of your chosen language. But there’s no guarantees. It may be that there was no available overflow (read: instance) of the map, and as such, players of different languages were pooled together in order for the map to not feel deserted. Your selected server doesn’t matter as much these days.

I think it speaks spades of people feeling a need to understand everything other players are talking about however. You must have some serious insecurities in your life if you must read and understand every single bit of text that is written between other players. What, do these people think the players writing in a different language is talking about them? Why does it bother them? Let people write in a language you don’t understand if they want. You can start a different chat topic in your language if you want to socialize.

I’ve heard similar nonsense in the map chat before as well. One reason for the outcry was that if the player writing in a different language was asking a question, by not understanding said language, the outraged player would not be able to help them. Isn’t that more of a problem to the player asking a question over you not understanding it?

I’ll never understand players like this. A different language I can learn, players like this will forever escape my understanding.

Then it seems to also consider amount of survivability; health, armor, healing. A lot of these are things applicable to Elementalists, a good amount of (AoE) healing, Boon application, a good amount of conditions, pretty strong bursts, etc.

Are speed-runners or “elitists” allowed to go to the bathroom if an impeding intestinal aggro should arise? If not, i would definitely rather to be on a casual run, because not everyone is a fat spoiled kid like Cartman to have his mom come with a portable toilet to crap on.

I wonder how elitists would perform under those circumstances…. I

I’m not sure what you’re trying to say. You gotta go when you gotta go. Even speed runners wouldn’t kitten on their chair.

They’d use a bottle, maybe a tube if required

I also hate the followers/stalker list, I wish guild wars 2 was like other modern mmo games and had a friend request system. For me the real problem with it is when a troll or worse an actual stalker add’s you, then you have to either have them in your followers list or blocked list, They are forever linked to your account. Even if it was a real stalker and you had to get police involved etc arenanet will never unlink the accounts. I hope one of the future feature updates includes a full friend request system, But I would’t hold my breath.

I’m so glad it doesn’t have the typical system where you have to awkwardly ask if you want to be friends with someone or even more awkwardly accept requests you don’t really want, to not seem like a total jerk about it. If a troll follows you, you block them, just like you would’ve blocked them if they were trolling you without being on a follower list. If it was a real stalker, po-po’s and everything involved, you would likely do the same, and they would be on the blocked list regardless, I fail to see your reasoning here.

I believe a friends list should only contain ‘mutual’ friends not a bunch of random strangers, stalkers, trolls and weirdo’s. I also believe I should have more control over my friends list ie. more privacy.

You said about having to awkwardly ask someone if they wanted to be friends before sending a friend request on mmo’s with a friend request system. Can I ask you something, What do you do in guild wars 2? Do you just wait until someone add’s you without your permission, then look at the followers list, see them and add them back, then you are friends? You really think that way is better?

It is awkward with the stale old system of asking for permission to friend someone that you enjoyed playing with for a whole day. My friends list also does contain only people I’ve mutually added or that I’ve at least let know I will add. My “friends”, or collection of players I’d like to play with again some time. The people in my Followers list are.. just that, people following my character(s). Why should that bother me? They could do that without a follower function too. In older games without such a nice new feature, I would still get whispers/tells whenever I was online. It’s not like that is different. Well besides them having a option to see if I am actually online and not needing to try whisper/tell throughout the day to see if I had gone online (I played a lot though, just like in GW2, chances were I was online).

In Guild Wars 2, I just say I’m going to add someone to my friends list if I enjoyed playing with them (and that is rarely after just one dungeon path run, it’d be more the people I’ve encountered more than once, or have done multiple things with throughout a day, or well, people I had a great conversation with as we were playing), or I may see they added me while we’re still in the group, so I add them back if I enjoyed playing with them. I like this much better over some permission system. There’s no awkwardness of asking for permission to add someone to your friend list, you just do it. I don’t need to feel like a jerk because I don’t accept the requests. If they wish to follow me, great, they can follow me. They are categorized into their own Follower section of my lists, I never need to look at it if I don’t want to. I really do not see the problem here.

What are they going to do? Stalk you into the dungeon? Figure out exactly where you are in World vs. World? Hunt you down in the PvE maps? Or.. Lyssa save us.. could they… potentially, oh no, let it not be so.. could they… whisper us?! The horror! If they’re being trolls, you can block them. If they aren’t, then what does it matter? Not everyone that follows you are necessarily trolls, stalkers or weirdos. They’re just normal people wanting to follow you, for whatever reason that may be. Maybe they look up to you, or they otherwise think you’re a great player. Maybe they find you funny, or maybe they just want to see how fast you’re progressing with your Achievement Points, because you’re awesome at that. They enjoyed playing with you that one time, and would love to play with you again. Perhaps you’re great at playing the harp, and they want to spot when you’re in Divinity’s Reach playing it next time, so they can come listen. Whatever. It’s a video game, you’re hidden behind your avatar.

Anyone who actually relies on vitality or Toughness to manage incoming direct damage is bad at the game. They’re clearly not using their dodges, evades, control and/or invulnerability skills.

There, fixed it for you.
