Greatsword for conditions

in Ranger

Greatsword has no condition damage at all besides Maul. All in all it’s quite horrible for a condition build. You’re much better off with a power build if you want to use it that badly. I’m not even entirely sure why Maul does bleed damage anyway. It’s almost as bad as the sword and the dagger.

Bears using maul do Bleed damage, and Maul is obviously based on that (considering the Bear graphic when using it) so… I think it fits perfectly well.

I’m not talking about fluff, I’m talking about the technicality behind the weapon. Why make half of a weapon’s main damage attack do condition damage when neither the autoattack nor any other attack on the weapon applies any conditions at all? It’s absurd. What would be much more in line with the weapon’s technicality would be if it made you evade or block, or made someone knock down or daze.

Almost all the feed back was uttly stupid. Its like there trolling me. Only people giving me feed back that isn’t being a twat, are people being positive.

I’ll listen when they start posting footage of there PvP, until then there words are meaning less, far as I know they unskilled forum warriors.

So according to you, negative feedback is stupid feedback? Don’t be silly. Let’s face it: your ranger wasn’t all that impressive in pvp. Note that I say ‘your ranger’ and not ‘you’. Watching your positioning, targeting, and use of abilities, you seem like an at least above average player. However, the ranger class fails to provide you with the DPS and abilities needed to complement your skill. As a result, your video wasn’t all that impressive. Had you been playing a thief or a warrior, you’d have been owning face.

In case you missed the punchline: that means NEVER.

Longbow Viable in pvp?

Longbow viable for ANYTHING? No. But neither are our other weapons.

I suppose longbow is the most decent weapon we have for zerg WvW action, as it has an AoE. But that’s about it.

After destroying the risen ships and hearing that the Windfall has sunk, you are supposed to rescue the crew. However, upon reaching the green marked area, there is no sunken ship nor any friendly NPC’s save for one dead agent of the Orders of Whispers, who is stuck in a wall and cannot be revived.

Combating Conditions

How can you call it reliable in any way? Imagine Empathic Bond just ticked. One second after that tick, some necromancer dumps all of his conditions on you. And now you’re stuck with at least nine seconds of conditions, which is more than enough to take away a massive chunk of your health.

Empathic Bond is unreliable.

Rangers are pretty bad at removing conditions. Our most powerful condition remover is by far Empathic Bond, which requires 30 points in Wilderness Survival and transfers all conditions from you to your pet every 10 seconds. It is completely unreliable because you have no control over it, your pet has to be alive, and your pet also has to be close to you. But hey, it’s still the best thing we got.

The next best thing is probably Healing Spring. Every three seconds it removes a random condition. It’s a gamble, but it’s better than nothing.

What else have we got? We have Signet of Renewal, which is in my opinion the best signet rangers have, despite it being one of the WORST signets overall. It removes a single condition every 10 seconds and allows you to transfer all conditions to your pet every 60 seconds. In essence it’s a weaker version of Empathic Bonds.

Last but not least, we have the brown bear which can remove a single condition from you every 30 seconds (24 if traited into Beastmastery). That is pretty pathetic, but it’s the fourth and last measure we have against conditions.

All in all, we’re probably the worst class at removing conditions.

Welcome to the ranger class.

lol, I enjoy my Ranger to a point. If the issues with them get resolved I think they’ll be a lot more fun. I like to PvP more but have done some lvl’n with the ranger. In PvE they do “meh ok” but every other class I have played can do it better. If you want Ranger or Thief I got a video ya can check below. I’ve gotten some heat from it but I think you can get an idea of what the thief can do. Check my other videos for what Ranger can do as well.

https://www.youtube.com/user/Needeles

I see a ranger using a shortbow (bad weapon) with Traps and no Stun Break or Condition Removal getting owned by a Thief.

While he indeed has neither of those, you cannot refute the fact that the thief is literally doing ten times as much damage than a ranger could ever even conceive of doing.

As for the shortbow, it’s a bad weapon, but it’s the most viable PvP weapon we have, especially against thieves. Going melee against them is suicide, the longbow has only one CC, and the axe has none no matter what off-hand you use.

Thief is doing more because he’s burst spec, This guy isn’t… as for shortbow.. it’s one of the worst weapons in the game, and it’s awful for fighting thieves, and going melee vs a thief isn’t suicide, you just can’t build like a fool and expect to win even vs bad thieves. I melee down thieves all day long….it’s not hard.. Sword/Dagger learn to properly play and profit.

Even if the ranger were also burst spec, the thief would still be outbursting him by miles.

Shortbow is probably the best weapon we have against thieves. A backwards evade, a daze, and a cripple are incredibly valuable. What else do we have? Axe, which can only chill? Longbow, with its single knock-back?

While I’ve theorized about the sword/dagger approach, it’s currently buggy at best due to the rooting ‘feature’. But even if it did not root you in place, that weapon combo would only be good against thieves really. You won’t be able to down a warrior or guardian with it in melee, and you don’t have a single quick gap closer to get to your enemy, unless you equip a greatsword, leaving you with no ranged weaponry.

You Decide The Next Ten Ranger Bullets

While I won’t go into specifics, these are the main points I would like to see:

1. Some signets buffed and others reworked to make them on par with other classes’ signets;
2. Spirits made invulnerable and the hidden cooldown removed. Will now follow you without having to trait into them. The AoE effects either have a much shorter CD or cover a much larger area;
3. Some shouts buffed and others reworked to make them more viable;
4. Pet AI significantly improved, and they take much less damage from AoE. They can attack while moving, and the F2 skill is much more responsive;
5. Sword autoattack no longer roots you in place;
6. Traits are reworked to have more synergy and generally make more sense;

The other points are in my opinion mere bonusses.

7. More skills with animal effects (similar to Swoop, Maul, Man O’ War, etc);
8. More pets and pet diversity;
9. More synergy between ranger weapon skills and the pet (similar to how the sword autoattack gives the pet might, and the axe’s Winter’s Bite makes the pet’s next attack inflict Weakness);
10. The ability to permanently stow your pet (seriously, sometimes in dungeons you want to stow him away for a while to avoid unwanted aggro, and even in PvP you’ll want to stow him away to decrease the odds of being detected);

I don’t agree with any of the arguments brought forward, and even if I did, it would not change the fact that Anet will NEVER allow rangers to be viable without a pet or remove pets entirely. if pets are part of this class then this class shouldn’t be called a ranger then… tamer as a name would fit this class properly

Rangers should be able to reveal thieves

So much for unique Professions. Giving ranger’s some sort of stealthing ability is a bad idea. The trait hide in plain sight is bad enough. It shouldn’t even be a ranger trait in the first place. Although it does help in many situations in PvE and PvP.

But I guess thats just my opinion.

Instead of just stating your opinion, you should try to come up with actual arguments to support your case, lest you’re not contributing at all and you might as well not be posting anything, saving us the time it takes to read and reply to your post.

I don’t understand why you guys want a stealth ability for rangers. That’s like stealing the ideas of what a thief is about.

What’s the point of calling this profession a Ranger if we have similar abilities to the other professions.

All classes already share many abilities. Rangers, who are supposedly the masters of hunting, scouting, and surviving in the wild, should really have SOME way of blending in with the environment, the way many animals are capable of. Call it camouflage, which is basically stealth.

But anyways, as others have said. This. Is. Orr. You aren’t in Lions Arch anymore, there are enemies afoot. If you think this is bad, try Cursed Shore events, where an entire mob group is capable of throwing out at least 10 different stuns, pulls, knockbacks, cripples and chills on a sinlge character, granting instant death if you aren’t built with decent toughness and mobility.

Orr is NOT fine. Fun should NOT have to make place for ‘sense’. Nobody wants to play a ‘sensical’ game. People want to play a FUN game. And Orr is NOT fun. I’m glad I have only one last zone to finish in Orr. It’s one of the worst things in-game.

It’s not fun nor challenging, it’s merely a case of running around trying to avoid as much mobs as possible – mobs with are present at every single square meter and all have numerous CC skills. It’s completely lame. Please fix this, for the love of god.

What hostyle said, basically. Though I cannot be certain of it, I doubt that any player is rich enough to completely buy out a single good and then relist it, unless it is a rather small market with very limited supply. And even then it is hardly a disaster. What’s the worst that could happen? An economic crisis is out of the question. Literally nothing in the game world depends on what happens in the trading post, unlike real life where it’s all interconnected. In fact, I’d wager the worst thing that could happen would be that some random chump can’t afford the leather scraps he needs to level his huntsman profession for a few days until the seller’s stock’s been emptied and new stock’s been supplied for lower prices by his competitors.

I beg to differ. I find traps to do decent AoE and CC. Also, the AoE heal we have which also applies regeneration and removes conditions is pretty neat.

For some reason however I absolutely hate ranged traps. Perhaps I’m used too much to my old Hunter in WoW, but I must leave those suckers at my feet or I can’t use them properly.

Frost Spirit and spirits in general

in Ranger

Posted by: Agadar.4931

Agadar.4931

“Frost Spirit – Summon a frost spirit that has a 20% chance to grant bonus damage to nearby allies. Percent damage increase: 10%.”

Exactly how does this work? Does every attack have a 20% chance to do 10% more damage? And if so, why would I ever want to use what is essentially a targetable, easily-killable, stationary 2% damage buff with a 60 second cooldown?

Not that the other spirits are much better. All of them are stationary, easily killed, and extremely underwhelming. While it’s absolutely fun to have a total of five pets running alongside you, knowing that four of them are utterly useless is rather disheartening.

Thoughts and feedback?
