Even though I doubt it, I do get the impression the system doesn’t instant matching. I had 5 unranked matches the other day. I had the same 3 enemies (they were a guild group) for 4 matches. Additionally another player was teammate/enemy for some of those games. That’s least same 5 players queuing yet still took around 3mins for each queue.

The general issue could be easily solved with build templates, which should include equipment in the “swap set”. Unfortunately the plans for it is somewhere on the table, along with dozen other things.

Ignore the treb if there’s one player constantly repairing it. You can dodge the treb shots if you’re paying attention since the game announces it (with exception of the first shot). If one enemy is on the treb for the entire duration of the match, it’s pretty much 4v5.

It’s certainly not disabled, just doesn’t always happen. I was doing the Drydock Diving in Silverwastes just a few days ago and my character screamed on the way down.

And this topic is why I never bother running dungeons in GW2. I love running instances/dungeons in other mmorpgs. Dungeons ain’t even timed compared to other MMO where time ranking might determine loots. Yet people make it all competitive that extra few minutes to getting their gold. The design is forgiving, unfortunately GW2 players make playing it unforgiving with certain mindsets.

If we’re going to make things round numbers, I’d like to make the base chance at 5%. That’s 1/20 hits is a critical chance. In my opinion, 10% base is just slightly too high.

As for the calculation, 20 points per 1% chance sounds fine. It is curious why it’s 21 instead of 20.

Ok, I am D D Ele and I am pretty good at it these days, I even beat much more experienced pvpers in my Guild Disciples of OMEN, which is a top level WvVW guild. http://www.sanctumofrall.com/leaderboard/ yesterday I spent my 20 tomes of knowledge to finish off my mexsmer to 80. looked up some New builds, found the Mantra build loaded it up, and literally I was top in Spvp every game on a class I never play (I am usually top on my ELE as well) but still, I never even felt like i had to work to kill my enemies, the amount of damage at range, and even the Healing, Daze stunning, it was just SO KITTEN EASY I was shocked. All that on top have having an extra 4k health? LOL kitten is broken as Kitten. Move them down to the same HP bonus that thief and ele get for a start.

the most important thing though was, after 3 matches I was literally bored of playing it, because there was no challenge to it whatsoever. Went back to my ele and tried a D / F signet build , that was fun.

Couple of puzzling questions.

  • Why did you need to spend tomes to 80 a Mesmer? Everything is unlocked in sPvP at any level.
  • Why are you comparing D/D Celestial Ele to a Mantra Mesmer? One is a hybrid, another is a burst lockdown.
  • Did you know that score is irrelevant to gameplay? A bunker could have the lowest score yet sometimes the highest contribution to fights.
  • Why the need to mention your WvW guild? Unless you mean that it’s powerful in WvW but this a sPvP discussion.

Unfortunately we all know how easy it is to become dismissive when other ppl don’t agree with us.

Totally. It’s also easy to be dismissing other professions are just as strong. Burning guard, cele ele, even thieves can decimate players in 2seconds. Somehow there’s some massive hatred towards mesmers.

Mesmers have always had “buff” icons on them for easier targeting. Mantras, Banner buffs, Food (in WvW), Revealed, beast bonus, etc. I don’t see how holding supplies will be any different from the current scenarios. Easiest way is just to spend them after getting the supplies.

Actually, queues have always been around 3-4mins. The “average” queue time is just misleading. Recently I’ve had times where I got instant queues by pressing the button to almost 10mins of nothing.

I took my mes to spvp and copied the meta battle mantra shatter. Even though I have more experience portaling golems than actually fighting as a mesmer, after about 5 unranked i was getting the hang of it and destroying warriors and guardians with out much effort.

Unfortunately it’s considered anecdotal evidence. Example, I played my alt power ranger last week and managed to down thieves and mesmers in one rapid fire. Does that mean rangers is OP? Considering that’s 15k+ damage in a one skill. Clearly not, it’s just an isolated example where I managed to bait out the enemy’s dodges before bursts.

In reality, I got bursted down by the thieves just as often. In isolated cases, damage is always greater than they appear. Prepatch mesmers could also burst down 70% of enemy’s HP in a combo. Misinformation just skews things out of proportion.

I don’t mind the mist form, but the ability to travel through a gate when downed, that’s a bit too much. That makes an elementalist virtually unkillable as a defender in Stronghold matches. It shouldn’t be difficult to change. Just have a “downed” check when entering the gate.

That little advantage almost makes up for the fact that it’s the only downed #2 skill that prevents you from being resurrected – which is a HUGE disadvantage too.

Mesmers and Thieves downstates #2 can also prevent a hard ress if used inappropriately.

I do find it strange that Resistance have been added to the base game, yet so little skills actually grant the buff. I believe only 3/9 professions, Warrior, Mesmer and Revenant, have access to it (None of the currently revealed elite spec has it either). Mesmer’s need to be traited and using Glamour skills. While Warriors is from their Healing Signet isn’t even used for its active in most situations.

Why no F ability for necros?

There isn’t anything to add for Necro to be a feasible profession ability. Death Shroud in itself is the extension of Necro’s Function abilities. Simply on/off is satisfactory.

As for Ranger. It’s a good habit to use F3 to call your pet towards you if you want them ressing you. It might also help binding the aggro/passive command to avoid them running into unnecessary places.

Elementalist’s mist form in downstate could even use Mesmer portals. It appears the game treats the player still “alive” during any mist form as you could interact with certain things.

From personal experience, adapting to the game does take a while. When I first started, I got bored very quickly by lv15. Had a fortnight break and only on my 2nd attempt that it sunk in. Unfortunately the excitement for GW2 is based around it’s self fulfilling mindset, set your own goals and do anything you want. Like most mmorpgs, having other friends or a guild to play with helps greatly to keep you entertained.

As for the dungeons, I wouldn’t bother buying into dungeon selling and generally stay away from them in any mmorpg. People usually seek lv80 because of gears/stats/traits makes running them easier/faster. In fact most of the fun boss mechanics exists in open world maps as GW2 dungeon are very lackluster (excluding fractals) compared to other rpgs.

I had all my skills/traits unlocked on my Mesmer and they were still unlocked and hero points sitting in reserve after the last patch.

And also, as I have been leveling up alts, certain levels unlock hero points in bulk. I noticed in rewards for a certain level that I earned 17 hero points as one of the rewards of that level.

I hear what you say when you want to unlock certain things and not others and you don’t want to have to spend all the hero points to do it, but they give us an abundance of hero points to unlock with over and above the hero points you earn on each map.

At least for me, this is not an issue, hasn’t been an issue. I haven’t noticed that my character has lost anything.

Previously (before the patch), Anet told players that with the revamp, they’ll only be able to unlock ~85% of the skills+traits (@lv80 without challenges done). They’ve since revised that idea based on the community’s feedback. Therefore this topic isn’t an issue anymore because A-Net made it 100% unlock for all skills+traits once the character is lv80.

Any spare hero points would still be useful/needed when the expansion releases since that’ll include a new patch of skills and new trait line.

Ironically, thief sword skills is similar to warrior.
1 → 3 attack chain with cripple at 3rd skill applying a cripple
2 → A form of gap closer and applies a form of movement hinder on hit.
3 → Burst skill

How can Rangers spam Rapid Fire? They aren’t Thieves, they can’t spam their skills.

Double Longbow, so you want sacrifice amazing melee weapon (GS) just to have medicore burst skill a bit more often?

You may agree or not, but imho GS is the best Ranger weapon.

I like greatsword more as well and use it on my ranger more than longbow. That was just a joke to make rapid fire spammable.

First of, reducing the damage again, it should not be possible to kill a celestial player in less than 3 sek.

If damage was reduced, bunker guardian would be immortal. Mine’s already very decent at migrating damage and conditions. And damage reduction will give rise to bunker wars 2, thus regressing itself to the previous meta’s prolonged fights.

While it is easy to imitate builds, learning and skill is required to make (certain) builds work. Denying build information is also denying new players who are unfamiliar with the game seeking advice.

I’ve formed my own builds for all my chars since the new patch. And the similarities with my trait choices actually matches 7/9 of what the pro players use. It’s not all that surprising that once players have adapted to the gameplay, they know what works and what doesn’t in conquest.

You understand thief need to use blind yet don’t understand mesmer doing the same thing? Thieves also have access to: blind, stealth spam, evade spam (similar to distortion), interrupts and teleports…

Thief doesn’t have evade spam,thief doesn’t that good of AoE blind,thief has lower HP,thief doesn’t stack most of those in one spec, stealthing on thief won’t allow him to attack and remain in stealth,thief doesn’t have mesmer range burst, thief doesn’t have the level of CC+damage as mesmer etc. Just saying…

Evade spam – S/D thief*
Pseudo AoE Blind – Pistol 5, (D/P 3 is excellent single target blind though).
Lower hp – slightly higher base armour, negligible though as both get blown up if sneezed on.
Stealth and attack – Allowed continued backstab if it gets evaded/blocked/blinded as it doesn’t reveal the thief.
Low range – agreed
CC – Panic Strike, Pistol 4 daze, Steal, Stolen skills, Basilisk Venom.
Damage – Very comparable, there have been screenshots of people doing 9-10k backstabs recently.

*With the exception of evade spam, all the others can be achieved within the same D/P build. Shortbow 3 can act as an evade spam though.

Thief Profession Specialization

A few months back, Sword skills were datamined for Ele/Tempest as placeholder skills. However those placeholder vanished and rumours about a warhorn based on the weapon skins.

As fast as the details gets unearthed, it could easily be buried away again. Staff or Rifle for Thief, it could just get revised again and end up with something different.

Probably talking about Master Fencer, a trait that gives 5s of Fury on kitten ICD when striking a foe below 75% health threshold, thus 100% uptime against that particular foe. Variety of ways to balance this, if its proven to be too strong, the least thought out of which is the OP’s ICD increase, which I personally disagree with.

No, I mean the minor trait that replaced Confusing Combatants, Master Fencer. Take another look at the line, it doesn’t stick out much so I don’t blame you for not noticing.

Don’t you think it’s a bit too much when you look at classes that got one trait or none as a baseline?

I can give you an analysis for 7 traits that became baseline.

  • Manipulation skill range. It should have been defaulted to 1200, weird that we had to even trait for range increase. Most other professions got range increase for their skills.
  • Pistol skills. Same as the Manipulation skill range explanation.
  • Projectile bouncing. Another one of those arbitrary thing that begs the question why didn’t it exist by default. Many other profession skills have 3 bounce by default. Mirror blade is only exception which got buffed by this change.
  • Glamour skills. The cooldown reduction didn’t change many aspect in PvP. It was mostly PvE usage that demanded short cooldown.
  • Mantra channeling. 2.75sec to prepare a skill, I believe this is actually a reasonable buff.
  • IP. I do admit this is a big change/buff given to mesmers. However the trait itself was also why mesmers were so limited in their setup. They had to invest into IP to function. This change frees up builds to be more versatile.

Several people stated it is not a bug, but they do think the damage is too high. Stop putting words in other people’ mouths.

So it’s not bugged but somehow the damage is magically higher? It has higher damage because the skill does more hits than supposed to (aka bugged).

The only way to deemed is not a bug if it is intended to pierce. However no piercing projectile skill in the game ever double hits the first target. Imagine rapid fire arrows hitting twice, the horrors.

Kind of you to forget the like 15 old traits that all mesmers now get as passives. Amongst them Illusory Persona an incredibly good grandmaster trait.

15? Calm down with the exaggeration, I count 7.

Phantasm damage has been increased by 15%.
Mesmer skills that create bouncing projectiles will now have them bounce one additional time.
Reduced the recharge on glamour skills by 20%.
Using any shatter skill now creates the shatter effect on you as well by default.
Mantras now give 600 toughness while channeling them.
Manipulation skill range has been increased to 1200.
Pistol skills used by you and your illusions have had their range increased to 1200.

I play Mesmer as main and do agree some things need to be fixed. HOWEVER we have to careful not to completely push the class out of contention.

1) Yes, it is strong. Your suggestion to only stun if you interrupt sounds perfectly reasonable. As for its ICD, I like the synergies with mantra of distraction. If the proc is changed, the ICD can remain the same since it’s harder to instant stun.

2) The fury uptime only applies to phantasms. The mesmer player themselves don’t get fury. Nothing wrong with this trait, it’s the same as prepatch.

3) I’ve played around with PU in WvW and it is broken to an extent. 66% increase in stealth time would have been enough. That’ll make all 3s -> 5s hide and mass invis from 5s -> 8s.

4) Don’t think they needs to be an ICD. Bug fixing it not apply through dodge is enough.

5) Disagree entirely on any changes. Harmonious mantra has always been PvE viable. Its placement also competes with Deceptive Evasion so it’s not PvP suitable.

6) Disagree. I believe it is fine the way it is. The inspiration traits opens opportunity for mesmers to provide some support (and survivability). Many of the traits actually existed (in some form) before the patch but simply Mesmers couldn’t afford investing into it.

Since the savings is around $15 AUD, and a gem card from stores cost $15 AUD, you’ll only get a profit of 1200 gems instead of the 2000 gems with the Ultimate bundle.

In general, the game purchasing is heaps more expensive in Australia. For the price of the HoT ultimate edition, you could get a new exclusive edition PS4/Xbox/PC game. And the US players complained $50 was expensive to them.

Damage is high SHOCK!!! But seriously. Go play MANY ranked with top players/teams, gather stats and feedback then discuss what you think should be buffed/nerfed/tonned down. That is a constructive thread, not this.

Creating a post/video of 1v1 is just stupid because the game isnt revolved around 1v1 and never will be for this exact reason.

Imagine if you manipulated this exact scenario pre-patch with say a pu condi build or something in a 1v1 situation. You could easily create a thread saying ’ong pu is OP must nerf) when in reality is if far from the truth since pvp is a 5v5 system only.

While sPvP is a 5v5 mode. The occurrence of a full out 5v5 battle around a point is actually very rare. When 5v5 do occur, it’s often very chaotic and people go down very fast regardless. It’s not surprising that 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 across nodes are actually more frequent. Sometimes 1v1 to keep a point captured until your allies rotate is important.

Why Burst Meta is Bad.

It’s not a “burst meta” at all. Right now everybody is still experimenting with builds, and yes, there is a lot of damage going around. You would describe intelligent play as dodging high bursts… Why not play intelligently and dodge/avoid high damage burst then?

However the metagame is shifting towards where burst damage takes priority over bunkering. Support ressing without a banner or assist skill is extremely difficult without dying. Meta isn’t always an “established” build/idea, it’s simply a strategy to gather the most out of the current environment. As such, burst damage is the current most favourable option.

Also dodging have less impact than prepatch. Previously if you dodge a burst combo, opponents would deal lesser damage as you sustain yourself. Currently many classes have a damage boost, even if you dodge a burst combo, their auto attacks would still down you quite fast.

My suggestion is the stats should be simplified to the following structure:
Games Played (total)
Games Won (total)
Solo MMR
Team MMR
Unranked MMR
Ranked MMR

Renewed Pie chart additional option:
Profession played+win distribution
Profession MMR
Unranked/Ranked Match played
Map/mode played distribution

In general people like some stats on match played/won. However there doesn’t need to be an abundance of them. Especially now that solo/team queue is non-existent, no idea why that stat still need to be listed.

I think most people that buy HoT want to jump right into it. If you just get a code to give to a friend well you can only play with him in the core version. If he upgrades to HoT well then he gets a code as well. You get a code, and you get a code, and you get a code. That’s a lot of codes being passed around.

Also if it is a free code, whats to stop people from selling those codes to try to scam people and make money. There are tons of scams out there especially on the internet. I even recall a thread here once about some site selling HoT when HoT wasn’t even available yet. Giving out free game codes is not a very good idea IMO.

I do understand that there will be likely increase in gold sellers or scammers. However that suggestion was from personal experience.

I started GW2 last year during the free trial for the game. Infact it was 2 friends who suggested that I try the game with them. The game deemed fun and enjoyable for us to justify the full purchase. Similarly I had invited another 2 friends to join me on the game when it was discounted. Word of mouth is a powerful tool for marketing and shouldn’t be under-estimated.

Anet is missing a big point, people are less likely to buy the expansion solely on the reason it’s “shiny stuff” (we’re not Skritts). At the end of the day, it is saddening that developers had their work set on fire before packaging. It is equally saddening for the community to lose more players than gained. The PR/management sure messed up. Here are some of my suggestions to remedy the situation.

1) I’ve read that pre-purchase for GW1 expansion was actually discounted for early birds. If you cannot show more content then a similar discount for pre-purchase could justify the price for value argument. Purchasing early should have a greater incentive. It is simply common sense to not invest your money for a ‘box of chocolate…never know what you’re gonna get’.

2) Although ANet might stand on their point on not giving character slot, as giving it away will devalue the existing bundles. A smart organisation would throw a biscuit to keep their customer’s attention, or at least communicate. For example there was Hall of Monuments rewards for GW1 players in GW2, a similar system could be implemented for current active players. Another solution would be all accounts get a free upgrade to the deluxe edition, since you cannot buy the core game standalone anymore.

Who won the balance changes?

I wonder how these changes will propagate for the WTS in Cologne this year.
I don’t agree with some of them, for instance engi was already powerful enough it certainly didn’t need buffing. Fresh air spam seems annoying if the ele gets the jump on you. It will most likely insta gib you.

But most of the ESL teams are adjusted to the current meta
Wonder if they’ll figure out the proper builds until the event and adjust accordingly. This is quite a drastic change before the tournament in couple of months. It would be fun to watch the outcome of this event.

Dota2 just had their 6.84 patch little over a month ago. The patch shifted the meta quite a lot. Yet ESL One is coming up (in 2days), just a month after the patch, despite teams qualifying under the old patch.

Similarly The International (held in August) had some teams contesting for the qualifier spots just 2-3weeks after the new patch. That’s the potential spot for millions of dollars prize money at stake right after a patch.

It’s all about which teams can adjust better to the changes and still pull the results.

I really hope anet is just trolling and its a late april fools joke, just plain stupid to do these changes without having some actual players test this on a test realm or something

The live server is the test server, we’re all guinea pigs. The PvP leaderboard season was like that too, release it to players and watch the complaints about bad matchmaking as feedback to tune the system.

Every class should have some sort of ranged aoe barrage for wvw and this just makes engi not able to defend keeps as well as all the others.

Thieves? Without their pistol traits, their default on pistol or shortbow is 900 too.
Edit: Guardians are also short ranged until they can elite spec into Dragonhunter.

racial utility skills do have toolbelt skills. Radiation Field (asura racial utility skill) for example, has the Vent Radiation toolbelt skill.

Edit (cos I pressed post before I’d actually don): it wouldn’t make sense for racial elites to be the only racial skills that don’t have them.

Considering racial utility skills didn’t have a toolbelt skill. It’ll most likely be the same thing.

Oh they do have toolbelt skills Mr.

My bad, I have too many human chars, their racial toolbelt equivalent does pretty much the same thing as the utility version. Thus I treat them as non existent.
