My thoughts on Questing (not that I matter)

I’m gonna say this now so you know where I’m coming from, the Questing in GW2 is flat out the worst questing I have personally ever seen in an MMO,

i find exploration, DE’s, with sprinkles of personal story and hearts to be the best leveling experience ive ever had in an MMO.

you’re missing the point, you’re an explorer, you enjoy exploring and doing events along the way, I enjoy questing and exploring along the way, you can stay zone appropriate level and I can’t because exploration is a requirement with questing being practically optional. shouldn’t both ways of play be supported? shouldn’t people interested in questing be primarily able to quest?

Seems you’re expecting something from GW2 that they’ve addressed as something they’ll NEVER support.

IE: Grinding quests.

So from that point of view.. I think you’re right, GW2 does do “Quests” poorly.. mainly because it’s not of any interest to them, in fact something they want to avoid.

I feel I should reference the GW2 Manifesto ~

Ok.. I’m gonna come back and prolly edit this more indepth, once I have the time to read your walls of text ~ but to address the "face value" of the topic and opening statement you make.

~ Killing mobs via quests and NOT getting rewarded in a dynamic fashion.. just seems out of date and grindish.

In a standard MMO, you run around.. explore, find harvesting nodes, ect.. but really, killing ANYTHING is pretty pointless, UNTIL you’ve made sure to go to the nearest towns/camps/cities to pick up all the "kill/collect quests".

IE:
I’m out "exploring" trying to find BAMs or just looking around for crafting nodes... all the while, I’m killing stuff.

Then, I come back to town or find a new town.. filled with NPC’s asking me to go kill bears or collect an oddly specific number of their "arses".

The first thought in my mind.. WTF!? ~ I just spent 1-2 hours exploring that zone w/bears.. killing tons of them, now you want me to go back?

To be fair tho, standard quest games like TSW have been in development for a while *(prior to GW2 launch).. so there’s no way they really could’ve made their game as "fluid" as GW2 anyways.

Dynamic > Static
*Anyday*

Salvaging.. what's the point?

Ecto’s aren’t 100% chance to be salvaged, but also have a chance to get up to 3. The current minimum price to sell a rare 70+ for is 17s, there are only 2 others below 20s. The current price for ecto’s is 20s. It currently isn’t known what the average number of ecto’s salvaged per rare is (no one has assembled a sample size large enough to confirm their averages). In my experience though (with my limited sample size), it’s more profitable to sell a rare on the AH or throw it into the mystic forge (if it’s 80) than to salavage with ectos in mind. It could be that i’m just unlucky when it comes to ectos though.

Hmm, then only salvage “cloth” epics/exotics.
You get Gossamere scraps, which sells for 5 silver each on the AH/TP.

I made a topic on this earlier today.. though, it was more in line with other peoples “expectations” of a genre.. rather than just what GW2 could do to improve “End Game”.

If ya want, check it out.. and leave a comment on your thoughts bout the genre ~

lol ~ Globs of Ectoplasem.. are a lv80 exotic crafting mat that is “acquired” by salvaging rare/exotic gear and weapons .Each one sells for 20-30 silver one the Trading Post.*btw, just salvaging all the whites/greens/blues from the starting areas+ will net you TONS of money via Jute scraps and Copper ore. *(each sells for bout 17-28 copper on the TP).So yea.. not sure you’re looking at this from every angle

Highest Characters::
Lv80 Necro
Lv80 Elementalist

Highest Crafting::
Lv400 Tailor
Lv400 Jeweler
Lv400 Armorsmith
Lv400 Cooking
Lv400 Artificer

Current happyness level with GW2::
7/10

Good::
1. Living world w/challenging events.
2. No “required” grind.
3. Jumping puzzles.
4. Intricate Auction House.
5. Fun swapping mechanic for combat/weapons.
6. Explorer based rewards.
7. Casual friendly payment model.

Bad::
1. Can’t “complete” certain zones due to bugged skill points/hearts.
2. Crafting seems to be a BIG waste of time *(flooded market = no profit/point).
3. Been in 7 Guilds… ALL of which turn out to be lazy and don’t do “anything”.
4. Been playing since Pre-launch, only able to do 4 dungeon runs.. *(no one seems to be interested ~ lack of rewards?…).
5. Dynamic Events are usually empty and avoided by players *(if there’s no “chest” at the end).
6. Camera gets me motion sick when jumping *(constant zoom in and out for NO reason).
7. All of the Elite skills on BOTH my two lv80 suck and are to easily countered/ignored by bosses and in PvP/WvW -_-

Conclusion::
There are some REALLY good elements surrounding Guild Wars 2 ~ but some things are just boring and to “player dependent” *(can’t have fun solo, due to lack of challenge).

This extends to the “Dragons” ~ where the fights are nothing more than “pretty light shows” from all the players spamming their spells *(No challenge via lack luster boss mechanics and combat is just to easy to stand still/spam).
