I didn’t say this change doesn’t bring counterplay. I said that Unblockable skills weren’t meant to be counterplayed by block/aegis in the first place. But now, since you cannot chain into LS, they are.

The only unblockable skill is Larcenous, and that isn’t counterplayed by block/aegis. Flanking strike was always blockable/though didn’t stop it from turning into Larcenous pre-patch. Since Flanking isn’t Unblockable it should have means of being counterplayed by a block, also meaning aegis which counts as a block. What i’m saying is that this change with block/aegis just prevented you from setting up the Larcenous, which was needed to reward people who blocked/casted aegis to avoid a follow up burst. Thieves still have crazy initiative regen now that they boosted it to 1 second, and with the amount of dodges a S/D thief has, i’m pretty sure the initiative cost will come back due to how much you can kite away. I do agree it sucks that you can’t steal+larcenous, but being able to set that up with no punishment or a way to prevent the larcenous needed a change. Ok i’m off, checking back up on this tomorrow.

I actually don’t agree with this. Yes s/d has dodges but what’s the point in just spam dodging when you can’t really dps anyone? They made it unviable in high tier play and almost as equal in low tier. I never agree with what anet does to thief but I usually never say anything about it, but this change is legit idiotic. Like I’ve mained s/d through every single nerf yet this one just makes it unplayable and not enjoyable. If you don’t agree with me that’s fine but if you lose to an s/d thief post patch it’s a simple l2p issue.

Why? I am so confused my favorite build is now useless for no apparent reason?
Every time you guys nerf us we find a new way to play a thief, if anything condi thief/perplexity needed some work not the guy playing s/d power.

On the real though, I’m not going to play this game anymore. I’m tired of re learning my class every 6 months. Every other class gets buffs and nerfs per usual while we get buffs to stupid traits no one specs and getting pigeonholed into condi builds. Anet has finally managed to kitten me off to the point where I no longer enjoy playing this game as a thief. GG.

Agreed, I dont want to quit this game but they legit ruined the only weapon set I found even remotely fun to play. I absolutely hate the d/p playstyle because how stale it is compared to S/D. This game now is quickly boring me for many reasons such as terrible balance teams, no dev plays thief, condi is aids and broken, nerfs to things that do not need nerfed and buffs to things that do. Welp I probably wont play thief if I dont quit GGGGGGGGGGGG.

Congratulations Anet! I am officially done with this weapon set, I even tried to like it but it’s literally impossible with the steal bug and getting blocked doesnt proc larcenous. You guys have single handedly managed to kill an entire weapon set. To those who are still going to play it and say it’s good? More power to you bro haha, I for one am sick of the pointless nerfs. You guys turned a great weapon set into a complete evade spam no dps piece of kitten. I called it, but no one listened and what a surprise I was right.

I guess it was pointless to main that weapon set for over a year ahaha once again Anet. G kittening G.

Unplayable no, enough to kitten me off yes. This happened directly after anet “fixed” the steal and teleport pathing, oh and what do you know they ended up making it kittenty. This has happened to me soooooo many times that I am beyond sick of it, it has nothing to do with ping and I always try to time my steals perfect, and when you miss a steal you literally shouldn’t have missed it gets old as kitten. If you miss a steal then you basically lose the fight to an equally skilled player because steal is how you set up the burst and be quick about it, sizer is completely right it’s idiotic that this hasn’t been fixed yet, oh wait… It’s anet.

I do both WvW and SPvP, I am rank 620+ from solo/havoc groups and I am on a decent SPvP team. I believe that what many people are saying is correct, WvW players in general are worse then SPvP players (and no not all are bad but most). There is a large difference in SPvP and WvW, believe it or not I still get kitten from people because I had a history of WvW. SPvP players usually have a large ego IMO, which I can name more than 10 but I won’t. Just because you did WvW at one point people will always think that you are less skilled than others, which is fine just show them wrong and play what you want to.

What is your, the thief community’s, opinion on this matter? How do you want it handled, if at all?

I feel there is a whole host of different ways to deal with a general thief. I think your main gripe as a mesmer is S/D thieves as you pretty much need hard CC to make them think twice. I think the changes to s/d coming next patch is going to up a more diverse set of disables for the s/d thief and will allow you to burn more of their initiative before they can do any real damage to you.

isnt the skill 3 , first part, an evade? how is it interruptable as mesmer?

Yes it’s an evade but there are moments when you can interrupt it, such as when you first start the skill it doesn’t instantly evade so it’s interruptible and at the end of the skill there is a short frame of time where the sword 3 can still be interrupted.

Well Anet congratulations you are trying to nerf a spec that doesnt need nerfed. Many people do not realize how this will actually effect playing s/d. Think about it, good s/d thieves combo a lot of things off of larcenous and flanking strike is easy as hell to dodge which if you dont land the flanking strike then you just wasted 4 initiative and if you want to try again and you miss boom another 4 initiative, it’s almost like missing CnD’s. S/D will be absolutely pointless if this goes through, with missing flanking strikes you will always be on low initiative which is awful for a thief… Sure you can flanking strike steal but it glitches out a lot now since the steal patch, so it’s basically worthless to do. I agree 100% S/D acro was over the top and almost OP but S/D was never the problem, it was only the acrobatics trait line and to nerf S/D AGAIN because people think it’s OP is insane. If this patch legit goes through S/D will basically be done and worthless, sure it can work in some scenarios but most of the time wont at all. Rant over, Anet l2Balance…. GG

S/D is cancer in general, because it rewards you for spamming a single skill with very little thought, it can self peel back across friendly lines, and has insane cleave, and high burst, on top of unblockable, and boon strip. Does this seriously need to be explained? It vastly outshadows physically every other weapon in any scenario. Hello frands, Steb here, I’m one of the top thieves in the game. S/D needs to be nerfed, it’s OP (Note that thieves are not OP, just the weaponset, and since thieves are UP as a whole, this helped balance them out), and bad for gameplay, balance, and thieves. That said, most other classes need some pretty significant nerfs to keep balance in check.

So my question is why go through the trouble remaking something that didnt need remade into something people may possibly wine about more than they already do? “UGHH 3 SPAM CHEESE L2P BADDIE” basically the same thing many people already see now…. So the point in the nerf is???

I was thinking, they literally re-introduced a mechanic they were trying to get rid of on shortbow. The #3 spam. This is only going to get worse. I see the aftercast butchering already incoming.

The problems they had with SB3 wasn’t about dodge spamming but the combination of dodge spamming + range + reposition to further increase range + added cripple/cripple spam which couldn’t be cleansed due to the re-application of it. Simply, this design made the skill stronger when spammed and didn’t carry much reward for not using it only once or twice.

So this revamped S/D allows for an evasive style but prevents really any damage or huge repositions from being performed/condis applied/boons being stripped during the process of just dodging. The old FS was the same thing as the part 1 of the new skill, and it had no problems. They simply just wanted to make the skill have more depth to it, which is what they now have, seeing as it can act as a chain evade source – or – a source of damage and boon stripping.

S/D will literally be pointless in a tpvp match, thief is supposed to be able to burst quick, which with S/D sigil procs you could and steal boons but now if this goes through you will literally be worthless and just be pressing 3 hoping for it to connect and spamming it just for evades causing more QQ and thus getting S/D nerfed again and as I said…. Whats the point??

I for one love the flanking strike changes. I almost always use flanking strike to dodge, when I run out of endurance. Now I can afford another dodge on top of my dodges, while i dodge.

I’m in the same boat. For those that remember the old FS, which didn’t have a second skill portion, the skill was an unbelievably powerful tool used to prevent taking damage and force an opponent onto their cooldowns. Simply, I think this change allows for the evasion thief to make a new presence, and also gives such a thief a boon strip and source of on-demand damage for when they don’t need to dodge. If anything, I suspect that the particularly skilled S/D players will conceive this as a buff.

I will agree, however, that 2 boon strip should return as compensation.

Cant disagree. But that’s acrobatics not S/D like im explaining I think If anything should get nerfed it should be feline grace not S/D.

It’s the fact that s/d is a synergy with acrobatics and SoA, making it “perma evade”. s/d evade has always been an issue since launch whether it was 20066, 26060, 02066 because of how frequently a thief can evade than any other class. Evading is already the most broken mechanic in the game giving it an almost 2 second “invulnerability” to physical damage/condition damage applications.

My personal opinion was to change SoA to give half your endurance back rather 100%, and make Flanking Strike a 1/4 evade, but again; I don’t really care what Anet does because I still play the game and adjust to whatever they “nerf” or “buff”.

Adjust to the game mechanics because you really don’t have any say in Anets changes, don’t make it a viral deal about it.

I mean, I will lmao. I find s/d fairly easy so I don’t play it. Evades carry the game and what do you mean “shouldnt be happening anyways”, it doesn’t matter if it shouldnt be happening. I agree a lot of nerfs and buffs should not be happening, but what I’m saying is you should find a way around the nerf. At least people gave you intel about what’s changing in order for you to have time to adjust, otherwise you would whine more if you found out there were no intel on it, and a new patch came out unexpectedly with changes.

I’m not here to start crap, but you’re the one insanely kitten about the changes. Live with it. It’s the reason why not all of the other popular players have quit yet; they adjust.

Uhuh, D/P is the easiest weapon set imo. I’ve went through every single S/D nerf time and time again and frankly it gets old as kitten. This nerf is just going to make S/D blow which you probably want because you play D/P anyways. I didnt want to start anything against anyone im putting it out there that this nerf is literally pointless and not thought out at all and should not happen, if they read it cool if they dont thats their fault for ruining a weaponset.

What do you mean sigil procs? How often are you triggering energy in a typical fight? I don’t thief anymore but I don’t see s/d thieves leaving s/d so often as to maximize energy sigil, but that might just be me.

Not saying you are wrong, just curious what you mean.

Air and Fire sigils proc around every 8-10 seconds or so. Fire has kitten CD and Air has a 3 making them proc a lot makes acrobatics work well because its more damage with still having a lot of evades.

If s/d isn’t easier than it’s just overpowered. Takes a fraction of the reflexes of d/p with less risk and way more versatility. Maybe its just the STR rune fire/air sigil setup though

The thing is, S/D thief right now has almost zero counterplay. I don’t mind that the skill cap is getting higher, as it really needed to not be so easy to play. Now that it has counterplay and you can actually play against it, s/d can maybe finally be balanced and fun to fight against.

It took me a week to beat “veteran” S/D thieves using ONLY a Sword. Guess what could have happened if I equipped a Dagger, too!
Sword/anything is incredibly easy to play. You just cannot die.
I like all the changes. And I think I will see a lot of QQ from people saying “That guy is spamming LS forever permaevade noob lol”

Guys, I made this post for the soul reason that S/D does not need nerfed. As I said many people say S/D is OP but it’s not that at all it’s feline grace and the whole acro line that makes S/D considered “OP”, alls im trying to do is figure out why Anet nerfs something that does not need nerfed. This post is to tell them that they are wrong with this nerf, they are literally going to ruin this weapon set for many thieves. If they go through with this it will be back to the d/p meta and hell even thats getting nerfed. The S/D 2/0/0/6/6 meta build in sPvP is very strong because of Acro and Sigils mostly.. not because of the actual weapon set

But you can not argue the weapon set is not completely nerfed – They altered the playstyle – which can be argued as nerf/buff depending on the person

What im trying to get through is that this weaponset has been nerfed to the ground many times, ive still played it but this one is probably going to be it for me, im absolutely sick of the s/d nerfs. It just gets old man.

Nah, I don’t think so. I play S/D at times and this will not destroy S/D. If the problem is that you wont be able to hit larcenous strike, just bait some dodges with fake CnD’s and use flanking strike then. It also encourages the player to be smart and rewards better, smarter play, which is good for a thief. Plus more autoattack pressure and encourages more daze pressure.

I do not think S/D is broken.

If you’re that upset then just switch weaponsets. If it’s THAT awful of an experience for you because you can’t land a flanking strike then switch to d/d or d/p or something. Who knows, maybe you could make the new p/p meta. It’s getting buffed.

All you say is that FS is hard to land… it is not harder to land then LS in fact it is easier since it homes in to your target.. LS has a long cast time which is why most thieves combo it with steal/signet.. you can also combo those shadow steps with FS ensuring you land it

With people realizing that flanking strike will now be a danger when it lands they will make sure to dodge it, if you miss flanking strike twice thats 8 initiative which is ridiculous. If you want proof of ports failing watch my newest video? Lol I mean I do the flanking combo all the time im saying that with the new pathing it glitches out all of the time. So whats the point using a skill that teleports to them and teleports back in the process of using 4 initiative? How is this not an argument? Do you have a clue what you are talking about?

Sleight of Hands daze should also help in landing it

No benefit to using FS at range 2/3 times for evades? Consider the buff as well

Did you not read what I said? I said you can combo a flanking strike sure, but with the new pathing on teleports it fails all the time it will teleport to them and then teleport back or just say out of range.

What exactly is OP about Acro? Feline Grace? Hard to Catch? Quick Pockets?

Feline grace, the abilty to gain endurance back is pretty over the top.

Well Anet congratulations you are trying to nerf a spec that doesnt need nerfed. Many people do not realize how this will actually effect playing s/d. Think about it, good s/d thieves combo a lot of things off of larcenous and flanking strike is easy as hell to dodge which if you dont land the flanking strike then you just wasted 4 initiative and if you want to try again and you miss boom another 4 initiative, it’s almost like missing CnD’s. S/D will be absolutely pointless if this goes through, with missing flanking strikes you will always be on low initiative which is awful for a thief… Sure you can flanking strike steal but it glitches out a lot now since the steal patch, so it’s basically worthless to do. I agree 100% S/D acro was over the top and almost OP but S/D was never the problem, it was only the acrobatics trait line and to nerf S/D AGAIN because people think it’s OP is insane. If this patch legit goes through S/D will basically be done and worthless, sure it can work in some scenarios but most of the time wont at all. Rant over, Anet l2Balance…. GG

I think i did pretty well on my 11k hp zerk guard but you were to much for me! U did have a friend with you but I still dont think I could have won but maybe. Either way your friend was forced to hide in stealth all day! but you!… you were so much better!

Nothing less than great gameplay. I was suprised when you won that Elementalist and killshot Warrior battle. Because I know that elementalist is celest/zerker. So he could’ve sustained for days, but he was too worried about trying to keep that warrior alive.

And who was that CNB necro 0_0 i don’t know him lol.. and that clutch Withdraw heal cancel in shadow refuge, OP weapon swap.

I was surprised myself man, I thought I was totally going to die from a killshot but ended up timing my evades properly. I actually have no idea who the necro is xD.

Thanks. I found your gear very interesting. Most theives I see, including myself, opt for a few valkyrie pieces + berserkers, and I see you went with toughness (caveliers) instead. Do you think toughness > vitality (in general, or for your playstyle)? I’m starting to think so, it looked like you were taking much less damage from backstabs than I do, and with our 2 short cooldown heals (withdraw, stealth) one shouldn’t need a huge hp pool.

Anyway you’ve inspired me to pick up some valk gear and possibly pack runes.

question: How do you feel about runes of rage? Leaning towards these with my S/d

Well, I love to have more toughness. I never like valk gear so I went for cavs and I love them so much more. I do also have a set of gear with runes of rage for perma fury, it’s a very good rune set and so overlooked.
