“The Manifesto is not a binding contract” = last refuge of an ANET apologist.

Plus, who cares about this being a binding contract or more of a guideline? They broke a promise and leaving players will break their finance planning. That’s how it works, that’s what they opted for. We’re not bound to anything.

Get your facts right and I might read the whole post next time. Both of those are flat out wrong.

Correct them, then.

It’s more than 8%, and there’s no WvW availability.

there is no way to get ascended gear from any activity but fotm yet. they said themselves they would add existing activities to be able to get them “eventually”

sorry i can’t link you to the post with this info. i learned not to do that the hard way.

It’s about asc. gear being used there, imbalancing Wv3 even more.
But I’d be glad to get it there. At least some sort of proper thinking to make it easily and widely attainable.

Server guesting

I know but i thought this was just a temporary solution?

Sure, you’ll have guesting afterwards which will be less complicated as I recall nothing of cooldowns or relogging, you’ll just say “let’s play together” and make it happen. If it works. And they don’t change their plans and charge you for that.

What’s keeping you from all changing to one server anyway? It’s a one week cooldown, so not much to lose, is there?

There is one major difference in Monoclegate and GW2’s introduction of Ascended gear:
– Monoclegate didn’t go against the core concepts of Eve. It just ate up development resources to produce a really stupid addition. Then CCP backed down quickly.
– The manifesto made “no grinding for stats” seem a core part of GW2. Ascended items directly contradict that. ANET is silent.

Then we come into removing the problem:
– For CCP, all they needed to do was to apologise and focus towards spaceship content again. Did they ever remove any of the stuff they added in Monoclegate ?
– For ANET, removing Ascended gear is going to be painful however they do it. Drop the stats, people complain. Make them quicker to acquire, or boosting exotics to their power, and the higher stats make all the content easier than before. Rebalance existing PvE to for Ascended gear will be a lot of work.

Let’em fuse those items into existing ones, making the items we already have viable for this kind of content while removing them from the game, having new players attune their gear for new dungeons by other means.

Does anyone else see DAoC all over again?

I’ll be honest, I was going to play GW2 for years. Now I’m ready to jump ship. I don’t want a gear grind.

This is what I fear.
Again waiting for a game to make a real difference to all the WoWRifTORtanics we’ve seen. Promising games are coming, but well, TOR and TERA also promised much. GW2 lived up to its promise from launch day on – maybe exaggerated slightly, but it worked in its core philosophy. Now it’ll remain a shooterlike game for PVP every now and then, until they realize they’ll get more players if they add instawin gear to the shop.

Crafting the same power level as BiS is, so it’s part of your character and profession, not just some loot luck.
Not changing the power of the encounters, but differentiating them while increasing the number of skills available from the start on to allow players to adapt.
It sure is the harder way, but they could have made a standard geargrinder if they had wanted to have it easier.

Notice the picture from ANet? The picture with an Ascended ring, that is better then the exotic ring?

The picture from ANet. The one that says “Yep this is what an Ascended item is”.

Our posts may be fanboy, but yours reeks of ignorance.

Quoting you mainly for the link and in regards to people spazzing out about being forced into a gear treadmill. People are seriously losing their minds over this barely even worth mentioning improvement? I must be missing something because looking at that picture of the Ascended beside the Exotic, I can’t comprehend what’s up with all this GW2 doomsday talk. For that specific example shown, you gain 5 additional Power/Precision and 3% more Magic Find… and that’s considered a gear treadmill? Excuse me while I LMFAO at this. I remember playing an Assassin in Aion (pre-everyone gets a stunbreaker) and barely even having blues but still wrecking people with yellows. Same goes for GW2, having a bunch of cheap masterwork/rares didn’t stop me from strutting my stuff all over WvW and dungeons.

That little rant aside, I hardly see how this affects anything in the gear treadmill department unless you’re a neurotic min/maxer.

Guess what?
First, why even have an increase?
Second, why the silly infusions? That’s forcing. Without any real need. Why not design proper encounters. Oh, that’s why. AssNet horrbily failed to create challenging encounters so the challenge is now as silly as enrage timers and gearchecks.

and as for the ‘the skins are the reason to grind’ why would u grind for weeks on end just to have something that looks different, but has the EXACT SAME STATS…. seems a waste of time (in MY OPINION)

Because I play a character that excels in what he does by mine and his abilities, not by his clothing. Armor is mainly for the looks, that’s why it does not progress.

Why they don’t boost legendaries to superior levels is beyond my understanding. The veil is gone, we all see it’s WoW 2.0 here, why not make them worth my while now?

i think what u are trying to say is skill>gear, which i completely agree with….. but that begs the question how is an extra (from the screenshot posted) 5 power 5 precision and 3% magic find going to make an unskilled player better than a skilled player….

Combined with “you need infusions or you’re too weak”, I’d say I’d be nothing more than a mule for my items to do my fights.

More gear progression is the only way this game will last.

Yes I have a love/hate relationship with this game lol.

Thing is, they promised that this game was not going to have that. After the new tier of gear comes out and you “beat” that, then what? Another new tier? You might as well go back to WoW.. they have that perfected. Anet promised a different experience, too bad they are starting to listen to the WoW kiddies and going down this path… it will not end well.

I tried Wow and could not get past the horrible Fisher Price Graphics. Can I say it was a horrible game? No I can’t because their revenue supports the opposite. I have played multiple MMo’s since EQ1 in 1998 and have participated in 90% of every Beta for MMo’s since then. For people it is hard to go against their first true love =/

So graphics is the actualy point, and creepy treadmills aren’t anywhere near important? I’m playing a graphics, not a game? Well then, let’s uninstall.

As a member of the GW1 community, everyone I talked to didn’t like the idea of the cap increase to 80. We put our faith in ANet that the game would turn out well.

Until this patch, it did.

Well, making 80 out of 20 while not necessarily increasing the actual time needed is nowhere near bad, or a broken promise.

We’re just asking for them to rethink the decision. This isn’t WoW and it really shouldn’t be.

Hm, this isn’t Gw1 either. Neutral party here though.

No it’s not GW1 but it was advertised to follow a similar philosophy when it comes to gear.

Right. Totally agree, but it’s still not good to compare it to a game that’s completely irrelevant. This is a new game. Not an expansion. Refer to the promise not another game.

As long as max weapons stats are very, very close to exotics, it really comes down to the ‘skin’. If someone wants to pay $10 for a killer skin, so be it. Until you see something with crazy stats, they are true to what they said.

There are plenty of issues with this game, and the agony mechanic seems to add to them. Unless you really like to get smacked down.

Nope. Why have a slight advantage if it’s not noteworthy?
Because it WILL be. Otherwise, they would have just exchanged stats for infusions and make the dungeons fit.

Developers aren’t stupid. They’re not gonna re design the game just because a few people whine.

They do it because the record in their hands indicate that – not just a few people like you have presumed – a lot of players are getting bored of grinding for skin. People aren’t as interested in skins as the GW1 purists, and the player population must have declined to a point where they had to do something.

I’m sorry, but if your so called “player base” is enough to keep the game afloat, and if grinding for skins is actually keeping the player interested as much as you claimed it should, then there’s no reason why they would change it.

Sounds like EAs “MoHWF isnt bad, internal testing said its a fine game so y u no liek teh vidya?” and guess what? They fail every single time.
But hey, if ANet wants to lose players, go ahead. Geargrind babbies don’t stay long.

Either you display a little understanding and sympathy and accept the change, help improvise the change instead of endlessly chanting “THIS ISN”T WHAT YOU PROMISED" , and pray that Anet could earn some of the popularity they had at launch so they don’t have to try something worse -

Or don’t. And keep feeling betrayed.
Because the game is moving on. Changes are coming. Nothing you do will stop it.

Or:
Just make sure no one you know will ever again buy from ANet or NCSoft, thereby contributing to their end – which is, in case the changes turn out to be the NGE of GW2 – well deserved.

Seeing Anet take back it’s stupid, unrealistic design principles in favor of more tired and true MMO mechanics pleases me greatly. I’ll be enjoying the new content while the rest of the sorry excuse for a playerbase makes mountains out of molehills.

Well look at the positives people, they made this guy (who is totally polite and nice) happy! Huzzah!

It’s difficult to be polite and nice when you have to sift through this many pages of naysayers and negativity, all complaining about the same thing. If it’s that much of a big deal, then why don’t people just go back to Guild Wars 1? Oh of course, because that game is outdated, and as much as people might praise it over GW2, it’s always difficult to return to the older game.

Another example of why progression appeals to basic human nature, and why it’s not necessarily a bad thing.

And yes, I am pretty happy that we’re getting new content and a new tier of gear to aim for. I haven’t even gotten full exotics for most of my characters, and now I can relax and farm it at my leasure knowing that I have another tier to work towards once I’m done with my exotics.

Why are you even here? Why did this game appeal to you, elitist circlejerking ultr4h4rdc0r3 gamer?

I already answered that in another post.

Because it has more content and better systems than TERA. I don’t play WoW, and I’ll never go back to Ragnarok ever again because the cash shop has spoiled that game too much, making it more expensive than I can afford.

If Tera would upgrade content to include more items, better crafting, more mmo-esque conditions (GW2 has a very nice condition damage system), then yes, I would gladly go back to TERA in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, GW2 is better than Tera right now, and that’s not really saying much. This game has a lot of really great points that I feel are a fine step forward in the MMO genre, however it’s also very lacking in areas that most dedicated MMO players would agree are mandatory.

So you prefer to play a game you consider “ahead”, just to cry as much as you can to set it back to where you came from? Primitive, number based games? Item grind? Know what, might just go back and take those downsides while crying to make them better instead of spoiling other people’s fun, egodonkey.

I’d like to respond to concerns players have raised about ascended items. Please keep in mind that we’re releasing this as one portion of a massive November update that introduces and improves many aspects of challenge, progression, and rewards. With this and upcoming updates, we view ourselves as introducing large amounts of content with supporting systems and features, akin to an expansion pack, building on Guild Wars 2 through a series of live releases. So it’s important for us to be able to add an expansion pack’s worth of progression and rewards to support that content.

Our goal is not to create a gear treadmill. Our goal is to ensure we have a proper progression for players from exotic up to legendary without a massive jump in reward between the two. We will slowly add the remaining ascended gear items and legendary items in future updates to allow people time to acquire them as we add exciting new content that deserves exciting rewards. We will not be adding a new tier of gear every 3 months that we expect everyone to chase after and then get the next set and so on.

Ascended and infusion rewards will be available in both PvE and WvW over time, and be made available through all sorts of content around the world including existing content. PvP will remain unaffected to ensure our intended PvP balance going forward. We are also working on other reward and progression systems for the game that tie into current and new content and features. As you know we care very much about your support and opinion and are listening intently to what you say.

Finally we look forward to hearing your thoughts on the upcoming content, and we will ensure we share our thoughts with you on the experiences we share in the Lost Shores.

Chris Whiteside – Studio Design Director

First time posting on these forums, but how can you say that with a straight face whenever there is NO difference between exotics and legendary stats.

The ascended garbage with infusion is fine (even though similar mechanics failed in toher games, Radiance/Gloom LotRO), but the stat increase is wholly uncalled for.
Whoever came up with that idea at Anet should be shown the door and have their personal belongings Fed Ex’d to them.

You dun goofed on this one Anet.

Agony is not innovative.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Amra.6028

Its simply gear check. Those bosses promised at the end of the FotM dungeon MIGHT be innovative, but this Agony feature really shouldn’t be advertised as some great idea on their part to make dungeons difficult.

Here’s why:
If a certain piece of content is truly ‘difficult’ it should require the player to learn methods of overcoming said content. On a day when a veteran of this content is not focused and paying attention, that content should still pose difficulty to that player.

Agony is not this. Why? Because it is solved passively through gear check. Once I have certain gear, this content will cease to remain difficult.

Fits the way they made dungeons: tank n spank. Just they left out the tank, making it rather “spank and roll like a dork”. Actually, I’ve never had such a lame PvE experience, even grind games aren’t as poor and bland. Adding a gear check that will simply kill you sooner or later is just the way to go for ANet.

I’ve watched this “manifesto” video:

WHERE in it do they say that item progression is bad and should be/will be avoided? In fact, most of that Manifesto is about Dynamic Events and the game’s world and art style. Very little of it is (if any @ all) is about dungeons or progression on that weight.

People who are saying “you’re going back on your Manifesto” are lying…. they are either fooling themselves or are trying to deceive the community into turning against Arena.Net.

In fact, the ONLY thing I can think about that might be incorrect in that Manifesto is the part about Grind; but that’s only in relation to Legendary weapons. Then again, it’s not really grind if you rotate it casually with normal play, WvW, guild and friend events. It just scuttles into the background of fun.

The introduction of these asc gears is a signal that more tiers/more powerful gears will come.

So, no.

Legendary armor was already around the corner.

If they released legendary armor instead of ascended armor, would you complain about a quality that already existed?

Quality != tiers.
Legendary is equal to exotic, it just has a more shiny look to it.
Ascended is being forced upon the player to be able to compete in a dedicated environment, thus locking this content to the grind of a specific type of gear. That’s even worse than WoW – at least you’ll grind gear that has a universal purpose there.

This is not “revolutionary”, or “a different way to play MMO’s”.

It’s an exercise in futility and completely unrewarding in every way possible. Sure, a run or two at it when 50 people are all contributing on launch day might have been a minor annoyance, and borderline “fun”, but as it stands, this is the stupidest idea I’ve seen in a game to date, lol.

If you ask me, Caudescus Manor is the worst dungeon of GW2.

There are times when <insert foulest word you know here> trash mobs literally destroy you, and then when you get to the boss, you kill him without any effort. Moreover, the first boss of path 3 is harder to kill than the final boss ! Clear disappointment to me.
So, the majority of the dungeon is completely unbalanced compared to other dungeons. Even in Sorrow’s Embrace, which has dredge (!!), the trash mobs are not even remotely as annoying as for CM.

Anyway, bottom line is : CM is completely unbalanced, no interesting boss fight, always the same path/boss, you’ll enjoy other dungeons much more.
I finished it yesterday, never gonna go back there again. Ever.

Well, it’s not like other dungeons are far better, actually. Dungeon gameplay is utterly dull, leveling is more of a challenge, actually. You just don’t die so often.

I have to agree on the OP points. Sure he/she has 700 plus hours spent, but that can all be do in the hopes of He/she waiting to see if anything changed patch after patch.

GW2 has lots of issues, and the only thing they are concerned about are the endless supply of Constant Locked Chest drops. They need to add more important to gamer drops. such as good gear, weapons, etc off of mobs instead, because right now the only choices we have are.

Buy keys off the market with Real life cash for the Locked chest that works off a RNG of goodies beside pointless tonics.

Buy game gold from a third party seller to help players get their crafting maxed for lengendaries.

to depend on the Mysic toilet that works off a RNG to spit out good gear.

to depend on the RNG system to get something good off champion bosses. or even the 70-80 Risen mobs.

U wot m8?
Did you even play the game?

lol, in his cynical way, it sounds like he played a lot!!

derision aside, he has very valid arguments.

The mystic forge is the WORST game mechanic I’ve ever seen. as the inifinite black hole of garbage regurgitation, its a wonder people haven’t taken a flamethrower to it yet.

As for third party ‘sellers’, basically, they sell gold half as cheap as A.Net does. More in the hopes of getting potential buyers than to be generous.

The random number generator that deals with mobs and loot is…awful. I know this game is not supposed to be about gear, but when I kill a veteran or a champion and i get NOTHING to show for my effort, except the mobs laughter ringing in my ears, well..its a huge let down.

Or if I kill a world boss mob, let the champion risen giant, and all I get is a gold medal (akin to a pat on teh head, like a good dog) and some purple karma points that are useless (yes, I know I CAN buy gear with it, but the gear…I don’t want it, I already HAVE the exotics and the stats I do want) and a measly 2s?? I’m supposed to be proud of my 15 minutes of spamming 1???

No, I think the guy had his ‘short’ version pretty much dead on.

Sorry, but all I can see is “ANet wants ppl to buy keys so no drops from enemies” which is garbage. The game is full of loot – you get spammed with blues in any single event. I don’t see why the game would need to throw exotics at me for some cheesy veteran mob that took me a minute to kill. If you want that, go play Skyrim and cheat, please.

And having to kill mobs you don’t want/need to isn’t a chore?

No, why?
Is there a list of them you need to cross out?
It’s not like you have to grind through 100 mobs to go from one base to another. You’re crying about having two or three fights in a five minutes walk and if you weren’t completely dull you could just walk around.

Opinion on the game with a lot of experience.

What’s keeping you from staying in the zone? Do you get SOOOOOO powerful from those 3 levels? Not very much thought given to the topic, eh?

What if Dailies gave 1g and Monthly 30g ?

This. The value of gold is dictated by how hard it is to obtain within the game. If you make gold easier to obtain, prices will go up to compensate and adjust for inflation; this is basic economic theory.

The way I see it:

1 hr farming in Orr nets around 1g.

Dailies take about an hour for your average gamer.
Can be done ONCE per day.

Seems like equal value to me.

I see 45g extra on an average player hitting 80.
Not much farming in Orr left to do then.

how to make minimap bigger?

There’s a corner to drag, it takes up half your screen on max size.
