I warned you about Venom Share, might aswell go back to bread and Butter d/p 2/6//0/0/6 or 0/6/2/0/0/6, go Trickery for Boon Steal and Interrupt – and 2 in SA, depending if the thief needs to cleanse condis on his own.
Yea i find the thief in the group with venom share to be fairly lackluster but tbh he is a new gw2 player and a guild member. First and only toon is a thief and with active survivability utilities and a close range weapon set he dies immediately, Its not even funny how quick he dies but I won’t deny him a position in our group because of skill level. At least the venom share build allows him to aid us while he learns. I’ve encouraged him to swap to a power based build with skills like shadowstep, infiltrators signet, etc when he solo roams or if he groups with us outside reset night until he becomes comfortable with how thief operates. I’ve also noticed from a player who doesnt play thief that anything besides pistol main hand takes exceptional skill to play because it seems like a major up hill battle.
If anyone has a build that is power based that my thief can use while still LEARNING the class and all its abilities (basically more survivablity that doesnt revolve around reading enemy animations) then please provide the build because I don’t really even want to encourage him to use P/D venom share because I fear it may create bad habits but I also cant have him go down 2 secs into every fight or rally bait the whole group.
The Bountiful stones would be nice but they are too expensive for me to make atm (ill work towards it though) but for now that oil suggestion makes sense. The Nopalitos saute is also a bit expensive for me but i had recently bought up about 150 gold dumplings http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Fried_Golden_Dumpling for the same reason your using that saute. Ill also look into renewal, this i was gonna get it but it was hella expensive if i remember correctly
Even more feedback than I thought I’d get. Our guild is roaming with more success lately (prob because of the builds that mesh together now) but Thief still has it issues and i’m thinking of simply taking the advice of “play how you play best, we will die and then you can mold your build from there”. I’m also trying to get the whole tank, healer, dps trinity out of the guilds mind because i’ve noticed mid fight someone yells “Help guard i need heals!” and im thinking, I remove condi’s dude, use your heal skill? or call for water from engi? Anyways its still a work in progress but thats an improvement from the mass train wreck we were.
Build is mostly used as a tank that can strip condi’s, bit of burst healing via staff/VoR and some area denial/anti stomp/Blasting with hammer. Build is working fairly good, first time playing a support role with my 4 mates and it’s a very Different playstyle. I know i have to learn to rotate my shouts and let some condi’s tick a little before blowing CD’s to avoid becoming completely on CD. I’m just wondering if there’s anything the community would swap out/change? mostly with the traits as I find the extra stability is nice on VoC but idk if I should go that deep into virtues. although i don’t know what else i’d take in its stead. Had some fun with taking JI over HTL for a JI + RoW combo to allow for a setup for my dps to blast. Anyways, Idea’s? (was running 0/0/4/6/4 when I had JI as utility)
P.s. I made nomads over Clerics because with clerics I was dying after people noticed I was keeping my mates up. I do lose some power and healing power but i have over 1000 healing power and don’t rly notice it and clerics still hits like a noodle so now I’m a wet noodle but hey its not much of a difference.
Ok ty for all your help guys. Im done changing the builds around now. We Havoc’d last night and cleaned up in a 5v8, 5v5, 5v zerg tail and a couple 5v4’s. I appreciate all the help I got from the community. Main changes was swapping engi to condi tank, Guardian to full support tank (nomad’s/Cleric +Hammer/Staff with shouts), Warrior build is above, Thief is a bit more tanky with venom share + SR, Cele Ele is listed above and we have a shatter mesmer. So much easier to engage with engi stealth field and only people that can go down kinda fast is our mesmer/Ele but with SR and guardian traited rezz it’s not a problem. My guild also sends its regards to the forum community as they are know having fun playing havoc.
Redid the warrior build. http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fJAQNBiODbkpjqQ7CxxD6QDUFUoX8HIAUeENeyQ4FA-TVCBABd8AAw4CAI0+DQcQAqU9nzUCilyPAOCA5p7JAACwNvZYzgje0je0je0u5Nv5Nv5NLFATKjA-w
Warriors main problems were being condi bombed or put in a stun dps train so 2 stances fix this problem cause when it happens no amount of healing will save him. Also kept his Dolyak sig cause it gives same amount of stab as balanced stance and he wants the 3k toughness. Took banner and swapped some sigils to intel/Leeching on hammer and Accuracy (unsure but more crit on axe seems good for evis and AA plus 2x intel will overlap with fast swapping) and Air. Swapped 2 traits to vigor on stance use and more dmg per boon. Any feedback on this warrior build? also about my previous comment with a bunch of questions. Mostly related to Guardian.
Also, thinking about keeping 1h sword instead of axe. Evis is nice but we use the adrenaline for earthshaker most of the time. Plus Final thrust can b OP at times and sword has more mobility to stick on target but at a loss of AA dmg compared to axe.
(edited by Animosity.5968)
Ty for all the feedback guys, its nice to be able to talk this out cause I was literally pulling my hair out trying to get this to work. From what has been said this is what i’m taking or have questions on…
Warrior: – Not tanky enough for hammer and hammer < GS burst/mobility? It does have 3k toughness. I thought 3k toughness was enough but its 2.3k power made it hit hard too.
- We have to run X/Horn for perma swiftness for group + a blast finisher
– should I swap zerk on warrior for say, knights? Or more important to stay zerk but go GS + Axe/Horn for evis focus fires?
- Our warrior runs SoR elite because “I need the might” i say thats bs. I will make him swap for banner cause it can turn a fight.
Guardian: This class seems to make and break us…The group stab + toughness is heavenly and when we don’t have it then its noticeable. Our guard has played for over 2 years roaming, he’s very comfortable in w/e we put him in. It just seems that we cant nail down a good trait setup for this profession. NEED HELP HERE MOST
- worth being shout at all? I can knights armor/zerk trinkets medi guard all over someones face in 5-8 secs from 100-0 but that 1 of the 5 ppl coming at us and then im on CD. =/
-Change Hammer to GS? (i hate hammer but was using it for Blast Finisher, Banish to deny stomp and RoW to deny area’s. GS can clump enemies and good AoE)
-Then the golden question, staff worth having? I see alot of havoc groups have a guard with hammer/GS. idk if they shout or medi with this. Our guard says they prob running jinnpa build.
- Armor…I just don’t know. Guild leader wanted some dmg but 3k toughness (with strength in numbers it is). Should it be all cleric for heals? all solider for tank? so many options and i don’t have to gold to test them all.
- Utilities – Shouts seem to work well but im good with medi guard dps burst too. Im slow but group has perma swiftness. I will swap HG to SY or PF.
- Traits – AH was said should be taken for heals, I was under the impression it only healed me? Also is Absolute resolution worth having? PoV + Trooper runes good from this kinda setup? the group condi clear’s seem to work nice but its also not great to waste amazing utility skills for a simple condi clear.
Elementalist: The build works and there’s no feedback on this class. Our elementalist often do their job well group healing and applying boons. They have no problem stacking might.
Engineer: You guys are saying Condi tank > Celestial? we were using celestial for downed poison (dont happen often, cause he goes down b4 this. albeit the thief does SR him), group heals (water fields) and condi clear on EG.
- im genuinely afraid to tell our engi to rebuy the sigil of torment he just sold cause he’s a rash guy xD
- one guy said replace engi with necro. I was under the impression necro suffered from lack of mobility and was focus fired to great effect than engi
Thief: Our thief is used for SR heals on downed, SR disengages and focus fire. He does die alot and I don’t thief so Idk about the build. Is S/D not typical for a havoc thief? can someone link a build they would use to havoc with?
- Some mentioned staying away from thief because they to squishy for small scale fights. Sometimes we run with a mesmer instead but often thief. I do find they go down alot in 5v2-3 (in our favor) but I assumed it was a l2p issue cause they dont hit and run (he’s still learning thief tactics)
Other notes: we are training a new driver atm and some calls are questionable. Thats fine and we do wipe because of him probably 10%-20% of the time but it apart of learning. other 60%-70% of the time it’s our build composition or lack of dps or lack of defense for our squishier guys.
TY for all your help so far but I need some more help with the stuff above. I gotta hammer out a decent build composition for this main 5 man group. Main spots is Guardian (seems to be the pillar of this whole group along with ele) and Warrior (you guys were more concerned with the build than I was so something must be up)
(edited by Animosity.5968)
Im Basically at my wits end with this havoc group setup and I want to know what other people often run. We usually have 5-8 players and our main 5 group is Warrior, Guard, Engi, Thief and Ele. Builds are:
We get rolled over every fight even in 5v3’s sometimes and it’s kitten embarrassing. Should our builds be devoted to DPS and less sustain, armor, condi removal and cc ? Im very interested in feedback toward warrior (stun worth having at all? shout heals better? Straight dps?), guard (passive healing worth having? Medi better? medi doesnt offer much to the party), I think Ele is decent as is cause it does good dps and drops good burst heals, Engi get focus fired right through our melee and goes down first always but we also cant down someone with our 4 ppl while he gear shields, Thief seems ok to me but i don’t play thief, is that build ok?
We basically roam the map flipping camps, towers, keeps if the main blob is distracted and take on other groups or tail end of zergs but we literally lose matched fights 80% of the time. Any help would be appreciated because we have fun playing together but its frustrating and bad for our servers points if we die EVERY time.
TLDR: theres the builds to our average Havoc group, We get REKT like 80% of the time, is this a build problem or a l2p situation? Might be a bit of both.
Ty For the response, I meant the warrior build you would play as a start in hopes of sparking my interest in the warrior because I have a level 80 warrior geared up and I cant play him. I find him lacking and uninteresting with his utilities but I do love their weapon choices and burst capability. Don’t get me wrong, I played guard since launch and I love it but after a while I wanted more. So, I made a warrior and I feel like I shelved him too early to make a engineer which since has become my new main (SD or Cele). I never go to the warrior forums cause i’m usually met with a “OH you want some build idea’s? Metabattle.com or GTFO!” Anyways, Now i’m off to gw2skills.net to try to theory craft a decent warrior build.
Just dont. Coming from someone who loves shield look and plays a guardian too, this is a touchy subject. IF anet changed anything about warrior shield before they fix the pile of crap guardian shield is, i’d probably quit the game. If i could take warrior shield skills and put them on my guardian i’d be more than happy.
I like it, its a different take on the medi guardian dps. Also interested why your moving on to warrior over guard? I have both and lately i’m finding my guardian lacking but i find my warrior very in or out depending on his CD’s for his stances. Maybe i should give warrior more of a chance. Plus i love shields. If you don’t mind me asking, what build would you be running on your warrior while you lock down a Jinpaa build? PM if you wish to keep a warrior build off the guardian forums. Ty, now i get to watch a load of your videos.
Ty for all your responses. Crimson Clouds is right, im basically making a legendary for the sake of it. I now have the choice of either saving everything and buying icy runes too or buying a legendary and selling it for a profit then turning around and buying T6 mats as I see them go for lower from time to time. Never sold a legendary before, is it profitable considering I’d have to buy most of my t6 mats again and they recently have risen in price?
Wondering if I can have a bit of feedback on what I should do in my legendary situation. I currently have Gift of Fortune, Gift of mastery and 500g. I never really thought about grinding out a legendary and have acquired this over a long time of “deposit all materials” clicking, dungeons and finally a quick MF visit for my clovers. I have a Engineer (main), Guardian (Alt), Warrior (i grew out of and don’t play) and a mesmer (new and frustrating).
Basically idk what legendary I should make or if I should simply w8 for expansion and see the new ones. None of them jump out at me besides shield legendary but guardian shield apparently still isnt viable (which is SO SAD!), I barely play warrior and I play celestial engi so pistol/shield isnt optimal. I know engi are getting hammer (supposedly but its in the HoT video) and then 3/4 of my classes could use juggernaut but is juggernaut a good legendary do you think? Some people find it too big. I thought about predator but all the engi rifle skills don’t sound like a rifle at all and it doesn’t look like a fit + none of my other toons can use it.
Probably just using this tread to get my thoughts out in the open but i’m also open to some feedback from other people that have been in a similar situation. Also, no GS legendary cause I find it not legendary to have what 3/4 of LA has.
Edit: I pretty much exclusively roam/havoc in WvW or Dungeon in PvE to give you an idea on what weapons I use on my toons
(edited by Animosity.5968)
Of course.
Just pointing out that it exists. One could of course also question how often someone that mainly plays WvW would change out runes/stats in the first place? I personally haven’t really changed my set since I got my Soldier (nowadays Trooper) set about 2 years ago.
Yea i don’t change my builds alot either but the question is oriented to the new expansion. With a new class incoming and new specializations then I’m figuring builds will indefinitely change and for a person with 4 toons with expensive runes in WvW armor, i’m gonna be screwed and i’m sure im not the only one.
personally think that Rune of Defender would take too much away from your power and you wouldn’t really be able to kill anything. I do however think that this rune would make you a bunker.
1350 gems at 10g/100 gem exchange currently = 135g, no 6 runes set in the game costs 135g so it would be cheaper for me to just pay real money and exchange the exact amount of gems I need to re-buy my runes. I don’t think that I should be punished into buying gems to recoup my loss on armor I purchased with WvW tokens. Thats just punishing to a % of the population that plays WvW alot.
Self bump to bring this back up the list so a device can see It. Still wondering about this.
There is a site called metabattle that works in a similar way to GWPvX, that should help you out I guess.
PvE revolves around stacking offensive buffs and killing the enemy before they kill you. You can do the content with any gear and build it just takes longer, that’s why everyone’s trying to go for the highest possible direct dmg output (conditions aren’t considered viable in dungeons unless you’re soloing). There is an expansion coming and Arenanet’s talking about adding harder PvE content, so we’ll see what’ll change.
In PvP you have more variety with various viable direct dmg, condition and bunker/support builds.
He said it all. Go to that website and all will be revealed.
Just my 2 cents from playing celestial in WvW. Your runes are fine unless you want hoelbrak but i’ve used both and enjoy pack more for roaming/small group but i’d say hoelbrak would be better for zerg cause of the more access to fury up time and more condi’s coming your way. Celestial is hard to play zerging, if you are then you want to hover between your backline and front and spam nades or Pull someone out of position. I would advice perhaps changing to knights or some other armor if your exclusively zerging. Also, I personally run all zerk accessories/backpiece with celestial rings/amulet and a zerk rifle to go along with my celestial armor with pact runes. Sigils are battle/cleansing. Hope this helped?
Kits are the bee’s knee’s, the Mona Lisa of Utility skills, dare I say the pinnacle of powerful, I do. Running kits always makes me so gruntled (yes its a word, im bring it back) and after you learn them they become amazing powerful. There’s lots of buttons and it can feel a bit spammy but you got to learn all the internal cd’s and combo’s between kits. Sometimes it can feel a bit like playing Mozart on 2 piano’s but when you do it right then your a world class pianist and an awesome engineer.
Quickly making sure this does not slip to page two.
And do not fret yet, gentlemen. Anet may have disappointed in the past, but all good things can come in the future. And what better time to fix hobosacks than an expansion? Of course it would not get a separate announcement. Fixes aren’t features.
So let us watch, be ready, and prepare congratulatory whiskey bottles for our celebration, kept safe in backpacks full of them that look like they were made out of badly stitched rags.

Gonna throw my 2 cents in. Engineer works with alot of different gear but from my personal experience assassin’s armor works best with zerk rifle/accessories for PvE party/max dps even solo because the current meta build runs heavy into “on crit” vun/bleed stacking which assassin’s gear will give you top notch crit chance with still high dmg. Although, this build is all offensive, the glass kill or be killed philosophy. The other gear I love is celestial. In WvW, soloing bosses (long fights) or PvP I run 3 kit’s with celestial gear with zerk rifle.
I will say that if you don’t plan on doing dungeon’s and want to be a DPS glass build then a mix of assassin’s and zerk will give you the highest personal DPS. Hope this helps. Oh and celestial is annoying to get, time gated by 30 days on charged crystals >.>
well im glad I’ve gotten alot of feedback and I honestly hope a Dev will see this thread. Im going to be posting in the HoT forums to try to attract a dev because this is honestly just a fix for them but its seriously punishing to WvW players. I hope they show us some love.
HoT thread link: please comment in it to keep it up higher on the list.
Link to new thread please comment to keep it up on the list for a dev to answer: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/Dev-WvW-question-suggestion/first#post4728461
With the new WvW map alot of WvW players are hoping for Anet to change the fact that you cannot salvage armor purchased with Badges of honor. Most people have a excess of badges because it makes no sense to buy that armor now. We don’t want materials back, just our runes/sigils as builds will most likely change with the expansion. Will this be made possible?
I think 5 would b way too many honestly, how the hell would you balance the game in the slightest? (oh a warrior coming at me in WvW, now is he the warrior spec that does X or XY or YX or XX or YY or XYX? Guess ill find out when he uses 1 of 10 possible things). 2 would be perfect but i wouldn’t be surprised if they only did one at the start and built out from there.
As someone only now diving into dungeons/Fotm (albeit for gold to help my WvW addiction) I would like to and expect to see new dungeons on those 3 floors and I doubt ill be disappointed. As for raids, i don’t think we need them. As PopeUrban said above me, guilds can trigger big boss events + world boss’s (basically a boss raid, look at tequatl). I hope the expansion goes well and i’ll be watching all the updates carefully with real focus on Guild halls and the new specializations.
(edited by Animosity.5968)
yea this thread pretty much cleared up any doubts i had about exotic celestial. Ill make the exotic celestial armor for havoc and make ascended Assassin for FotM. Ty guys
thats kinda what i figured. for me my guild is a havoc guild and cele engi is good for our havoc group but i roam with SD build and PvE with vun stacking assassin’s grenade build so im assume Exoctic will be enough for me. if anyone can tell me why ascended is the way to go over exotic im still open to listening but atm it seems the cost isnt worth the payback.
Im just curious why people make ascended celestial armor for their engi? Thief and ranger use medium armor but on both you wouldn’t use celestial so why do ppl make ascended cele? is it just the minimal stat difference? Cause i mean its not like your going to be using it in fractals with agony resistance (assassin’s is just better dps) and is it rly worth the extra guard dmg on infusions?
TLDR: Ascended cele worth it? Im thinking of making exotic but don’t wanna waste my time gated quartz
without a doubt, guild halls to have fun times with friends, exploring the jungle, new WvW map, new profession and more. Take my money throws cash although on another note I do hope to see it priced as a expansion around 20$-30$ maybe 40$ but i hope it isnt 60$. I’ll still buy it but it will be a disappointment for so many guildies.
So, everyone know’s in WvW you get badges of honor and then use those badges on stuff. Mostly armor sets for new toons and what not. We also know that you cant salvage this armor bought from badges + gold. I hope to see this changed. I didn’t understand why I couldn’t salvage them in the first place because you dont make good gold in WvW anyways and often times I have a excess of 1000’s of badges so this would make WvW more profitable but its not like you get badges super quickly so it wouldn’t be super amazing.
Anyway’s Runes if my main worry. Some runes I have are 8g+ each and i cant get them back (dont say use an extractor cause do the math and i can buy gold with gems to buy back the runes i lost for a fraction of price of extractors) and with all the changes to professions coming builds will change. My runes will most likely change with them aswell. Im wondering if it’s possible to have equipment bought with badges be able to be salvaged. I wouldnt care if it gave no mats back but just runes. Anyways feedback from dev would be nice.
well I may of lucked out seeing I have everything besides 50 t6 bloods, 70 t6 totems and some ecto’s to make a legendary so i’ll now hold those on till HoT. I will however get some new cool heavy armor skins + trans charges + tombs of knowledge for my new revenant and stock pile as much gold as I possibly can for upcoming changes. For my guild we will stock pile a load of extra gold/influence/merits for a guild hall and for a personal goal i’m going to craft myself some Celestial gear for my engi as I wait.
Im more interested to know if guild halls are just purchased for influence/merits/gold with no needed prerequisite or will we need architecture or another line leveled up quite a bit? my guild is currently at 4 architecture and Im curious to know if i need it max (or another line maxed) for guild halls or not? Good to know so we can prepare
Ok so my guild is a havoc guild in WvW and we run Warrior, Guardian, Engineer, elementalist and thief. Basically the classes go Warrior = CC train , Engineer = celestial for water field/grenade kit, Elementalist = D/D Celestial, Thief = DPS and shadows refuge and Guardian = ???
Everything i’ve tried has been lack luster but the latest virtue build is working decent. Although idk about the runes and maybe the gear atm. Healing, decent dps, close to 3k toughness, close to 2k power and some condi clears is the goal. Here’s what I use…
The build basically gives stability on the first rush into a group, toughness to reduce dmg, VoR keeps decent passive healing, good active heals with staff, HG is used mid fight for might stacking/stability and VoC is used for stomping. The build is working ok but idk if i should change runes and maybe some armor pieces. Atm with the classes we run with we have about 16 condition clears (as in removes 1 condition for the whole group mostly coming from Engineer, Elementalist and guardian). I’m really up in the air about Runes of solider without PoV, my guild leader likes it but i think that without PoV runes of solider aren’t amazing. So, any help with the build would be appreciated.
TLDR: WvW Havoc group build, is what armor/runes/traits im running optimal?
Great job. Some small stuff that I don’t think Anet will take into consideration but on the whole its fantastic and welcome more modern viewpoint on alot of UI.
The thing is, nobody know what they want with the guardian shield, a lot of ideas had been thrown around on these forums and they are all different most of the time. I guess any change that will make the shield work different is going to be better than it’s actual form. I mean how can you break something that isn’t even used at all.
The biggest problem I think is to make something that will stand beside focus and not try to bite on the warrior shield, which is pretty hard if the resources are limited and no extra animations/mechanic is allowed on the change. Also, the idea of giving aegis to the shield is pretty meh.
You have it right. Will it be hard to change it without ripping off warrior shield and with no new animations? yes probably, it means it has to be a boons or dmg buff. Here’s the thing though, i’d take my chances and see if what they do makes it worse or better. If its better than hurray i can use shield, if its worse then guess what no one used it anyways so who cares.
and yea Aeolus that happens to me all the time. its like the cherry on top of the joke shield. One of the skills don’t even work as intended atleast 50% of the time (from what i’ve played with it)
(edited by Animosity.5968)
Ok, so we’ve seen this thread a billion times already. Basically if i’m unaware of any coming changes then please tell me but if not then i’m asking for a rework of the weapon. It’s extremely iconic for a class that protects other classes through buffs & mitigation. Plus, literally on your profession page the guardian is wielding a shield. To a serious note though, all dps charts have been worked out fairly recently and most weapon sets come close to each other. This means that all weapons may play different but the are viable in certain area’s of the game. These charts don’t even try to mention shield, it’s literally left off the chart. It has no use in PvE and imo no use in WvW. Idk what you want to do with it but just change something. Imo it could have use in certain area’s if shield #5 reflected but hey it prob needs even more of a buff than that.
Charts mentioned:
in this video he breaks down all dps and viability of all weapon’s for guardian, its just straight up numbers and he simply laughs shield away.
youtube video of Obal : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0yafg9payQ
I kinda figure that using a shield (being a defensive weapon) will drop some dps but you gain pretty much no utility with it.
Shield #4 – A 30sec cd for 5sec of party protection (not too bad but does no dmg compared to its other option of focus)
Shield #5 -A projectile absorb with a knock back on a 40sec cd (absorb is useless, no dmg, long cd, knock back has uses but cd is too long for it to matter, small heal is ok). Compare that to focus #5 and its no contest.
What i think should change:
Shield# 4 should do more dmg and be on a 25sec cd. the protection it gives is good for helping party members, it could change to give aegis but that may be OP.
Shield #5 should REFLECT not absorb making it useful for dungeons, CD should be 35sec. Could increase the heal on breaking the channel but if it reflected i’d seriously consider the shield for dungeons or WvW havoc groups.
If people are actually using shield atm please chime in and tell me how and why you use it. I just cant justify using it (despite how amazing it looks with guardian) over scepter in WvW or PvE. It just lacks the same utility and damage.
extractors are a poor excuse for a “way” to get those runes back. Im in the same boat with some strength runes. To buy 6 extractors to get these runes i need to spend more gold for gems then i’d get for selling all 6 runes on the TP. Basically it’s stupid, i can simply buy the runes again for less or buy the gems and covert it to more gold than my runes are worth. They either need to lower the extractor cost or come up with a different way to do things
Edit: 6 extractors = 1350 gems i believe. which in current transfer is around 200g, no rune set is worth close to this amount. Basically its only worth it when getting high agony resistance from your equipment but its utterly useless for anyone with just runes.
(edited by Animosity.5968)
Seems like a waste to sell them for 5s when they are like top tier equipment. There should be something in place to salvage them or MF them or something better than 5s which can get that or more for selling a masterwork lvl 80 light armor on the TP.
Title says it all, i have like 6 rings and 2 necklaces that I simply don’t use because of the stats are of no use to me. Is there currently anything I can do with these or are they just gaining dust and taking up valuable space in my storage?
So, I’m new to engineer but i’ve fallen in love with the class. I did main a guardian but hey whats a guardian now? I got a engineer. So the point of this post is the ask, When roaming in wvw (mostly Solo, sometimes a duo) what do you think is better for 1v1 and 1v2 fights, Full zerk or Celestial? The build im using is this:
I’m having good runs with this build but I c alot of celestial engi’s around and wanna no what all the hub bub is about and cing that making celestial is time consuming i figured i’d ask. any input would be nice
Leek soup is definitely helping. The build is working out quite solid. I’ve been able to handle 2v1’s quite effectively and maintain around 10+ might stacks at the worst of times. I though the loss of movement speed from warriors sprint would be hard to cope with but its really not with savage leap. Only think im not sold on is running 3 stances. the vigor is amazing but i find myself having a hard time locking down someone for a 100b without bola’s or Bulls. Sword Burst works wonders but the problem is most people run a block or a tele to move far enough that i cant close the gap and get more than 25% of the 100b to hit. I’ll have to mess with the utilities a bit i think. Oh and if anyone is wondering what kinda dmg this build is outputting then with a average 10stacks of might i can 100b for around 12k on light armor and final thrust for around 7.5k. Its fairly brutal.
TY Mexay, Cygnus (awesome hulk warrior vid, I subbed) and Sagramor for the very in depth thinking behind why X over Y trait. I Noticed how sometimes its difficult to keep a large stack of might alive in small fights and why you would take slashing power over FS (mexay). I already have the runes of Hoelbrak so I figure i’m gonna try with FS first and switch if i need to. Im going to be running this as a test in WvW i think.
Its basically Mexay’s build but with a change to food (seriously guys, lemongrass is hella expensive) and i did swap out Dolyak sig for Balanced stance because of Vigorous focus. I’ve literally NEVER run without warriors sprint but with savage leap and gs #5, gs#3 and SoR i’m assuming I should be fairly mobile.
I took Sagramor’s and Cygnus’s advice to take sigil of doom to kitten any form of passive regen a opponent may have.
Any final tips on this edition of the build? Btw ppl i can’t thank you enough for the help cause i’ve had this toon for a long time but have never been able to successfully have fun playing him.
Nice suggestions guys ^.^ I should note that this build was meant for WvW Solo roaming (my bad to forget to mention that), I play a guardian for GvG or zerging. So, after careful review I came up with this: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fJIQNAseRjMdUFajHehwJigkgC5onBXDgCQXVkaGA-TFTDAB9oEj7DBAFHBgHeAARpk4JlDvo+DI6DAwEnEnAAIUCSz+DkBwfCA-w
I had to sacrifice the might on GS crit trait to be more sword oriented. idk what this will play like and im kinda disappointed in the power/crit dmg loss. I will note that im very curious how Elegie’s mentioned build will play out and think im going to try to play it for myself. Quick question, does Dolyak signet proc Rousing Resilience even if not breaking from stun or is it only balanced stance?
So, I’m not a huge fan of Axe (too reliant on burst skill and doesn’t have a gap closer) or Hammer (its a personal thing, its prob good but not for me). So i figured why not give sword a try, i mean its FT hits like a truck when target is under 50% HP. So i decided Sword/Shield + GS for max mobility and still good dmg.
The idea of the play style is:
-You got CI + sigil of cleansing + zerk stance for condi’s. I can run Lemon grass too but its a bit expensive for me so im not. I am aware of it though.
- GS 100b can be set up with sword burst or shield 4 + swap (was thinking about relocating 2 points into tactics for leg spec. cause of so much cripple but need to test first)
- GS stacks might and pairs with hoelbrak runes nicely (nothing new here)
- Sword has sigil of intel for a guaranteed crit FT for a finisher
-Furious reaction and gs burst gives me 70% crit chance
-reason i ran with dolyak signet is it still gives 8sec stability when stomping + extra toughness with also converts some to power for me
-if your wondering “why 1 soldiers ring!?” well its cause i got one zerk and one soldiers, no other reason. Id run 2 zerk if i had it.
Here’s Build : http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fJIQNAseRjMdUFajHehwJigfgC7t3CmCgjD+GoLNA-TFTDAB9oEj7DBAFHBgHeAARpk4JlDvo+DI6DAwEnEnAAIUCSz+DkBgZCA-w
Any feedback would be nice, im just spit balling here. Builds main purpose is to still have good burst but be able to stick to target better than axe allows.
This tournament was disappointing to me but it was only because I came back from work (I work several months and then off several months) to find that my home server Mag had imploded on itself. I had some good 1vX fights with all servers and apologize for Mag having so few people to match your zergs. I assume we will going down a tier or maybe two so i’ll have to wait a while for some epic duels with you guys but hopefully we come back stronger.
This Request for a guild is a little dated now but [SGBB] has started recruiting again since the 2014 WvW tournament has ended. We are laid back, friendly and have a ever growing community, we do require 100% rep but allow you to rep temporarily for personal guild banks. We do daily events (not required to attend but encouraged to) on all fronts of PvE and WvW. We are now putting together a SPvP team to grow on that front. We use mumble (not required) and have +MF buff active 24/7 with other buffs actives depending on the event we are doing that day. Message me in game or here if your still interested and if you get family/friends to join you in maguuma then we will be happy to invite them all
I honestly agree that focus is pretty much just flat better than shield in like 70% of situations you find yourself in but I played s/f guardian for a fair amount of time and honestly i just dont like focus. It awesome in a med guardian dps build for the shield burst and condi clear but im not thrilled about using it in a support build cause i think its a bit selfish for that. Plus, I just want to use shield and thats kinda my burden to bear i guess.
As for MI, idk if i like it or not..its CD is long, very long but it can save u by just getting da faq outta dodge when you get caught in a bad spot and the direct healing (i value over regen cause if their dps is greater than ur regen then you die and regen scales bad with healing power) and synergy it has with the M/S combo is very nice (Mace 2 and MI in right before its done, heals guy in trouble and drops regen symbol, Shield 5 to KB and give heal to both of u and if the guy leaps back at you then mace 3 for block and slap to face). HTL seems good too but your right when i go 2 shouts it makes PoV look better. My problem with PoV is i really think you need Trooper runes with it cause people bury hard condi with weak condi and you may clear the week one. Also you should not be popping utility shouts cause you NEED to clear condi, you should be popping them re-actively as stuff happens (i’d want to HTL just before a big dmg hammer train hits us for 33% less dmg but i’ll feel like i gotta wait to use it for the condi clear and let everyone take 33% more dmg than they should of).
Anyways, Im still looking for more insight on the matter of this build cause i dont c what i could change at this point. I feel if I remove MI i’ll be rally bait cause i have 0 gtfo skills on bar and no leaps to get away. Only way i know how to counter this is drop mace and pick up sword for tele #2 skill. I lose out on some healing with mace auto attack then, some regen with mace 2 (almost made up by HTL) and some Protection (made up by HTL).

Thanks for the feed back. I should probably clarify that im not using this build to command. I have a 0/0/6/6/2 build with Pvt gear using GS/Staff for that but I was gonna use this build for tagging along in zergs to heal and MOSTLY for running support with 4-7 guilds taking camps/towers. Although what you said about light fields messing with the fire/water fields is very troublesome… and with Writ of Merciful it would be even more ridiculous to control.
So with your advice and some tweaking here is a new shot at the support build and im basing it around mostly playing with guild members now, If i was zerging (not commanding) id swap Merciful intervention with Hold the line or Hallowed ground.
The idea here is to give passive heals with Absolute resolution complimenting Battle presence. For condi removal I have Purging flames to remove 3 condi for group every 28 secs and virtue of resolve if I have to pop it gives 3 more condi removal on a 50 sec CD. Keep in mind the reduced time on condi’s cause of lemongrass and the fact that ill be passively healing 600ish every 3 sec. OH and idea around meriful intervention is to get out of a situation fast or save a member of the group very fast with MI to Shield 5. Do you think I should still go towards PoV instead?
