I disagree with you guys….it is almost impossible to judge a person’s charactor without ever seeing or hearing them or actually knowing ANYTHING about them.

With the advent of stores in about every game, those pixels actually have monetary value now. He actually stole something….stores allow access to goods but arrest for shoplifting if you rip them off.

I think the thief should be arrested and jailed…but would be happy with him returning the items and being blackballed ,

I agree the periscopes suck…150 is 3 times too many…I thought it was only 50 and was happily finishing off my monthly when it changed to needing 100 then upon looking further it was 150! I’ve seen maybe 5 different ones…all very irritating btw….knockdowns are not fun…knockdowns are not fun….knockdowns are not fun.

Way too many knockdowns and being wounded or whatever it is when you try to escape and you are limping…so you die of course….for the umpteenth time….losing what little money you’ve made on transport and repairs …and this is levels 30 -40 , not even close to max level where the hardcore are the only ones progressing so the rest quit.

Why so hard?

was using a 40 ranger leafhugger. This was just the entrance, the npc triggers a gate and everything comes rushing into the little entryway, not any real room to manuver and definitly no room for a full distance long-bow shot or to out distance the chasing mobs. I’ve just got to learn to be happy with the basic game until something better comes out. This game started out great, you could solo and then join up wo even forming a group and take down the occasional boss…and run if needed. It’s only the instances and anything new that is too hard it looks like, haven’t been playing very long.

well, I was looking forward to the new stuff, thought it would be based on fun and not “challenge” (read: max level hardcore) because the other parts were doable by my 30-40s.

Did the prelims then entered the hatchery..Bam..too many mobs, no way to single pull, no where to run and spread them out, died of course….. why this insistance to only make stuff for max level hardcore kin players?

Ok so now I’ve wasted my time complaining to some devs who are hardcore junkies, who will never read any of this because of the title, I feel a little better and now I’ll go play a fun RTS game and pray for a MMORPG that doesn’t enjoy making folks feel inadequate…..maybe even one that makes you feel a tad herioc….perhaps even one without dying all the time you attempt anything new. Besides RTS games have a magical “save” button…your stupidities are erased with a simple load.

Wierd, I remember almost never dying in the good old days of early EQ. If you did die, it was a major hassle, but seems there was always a way to snare and run if things got dicey….and you could single pull and whittle down the horde.

Is there any way we could have some indication of content that is NOT hardcore, some level indications, and what casual players who enjoy doable but interesting content can play.

Seems everything is “challenging” (read: hardcore kin only). Been there, done that, nowadays I’d like to solo quest and occasionally join in on bosses and win most of the time…build up some charactors then try to find someone who will let me group with them as I get a reasonably outfitted charactor leveled up.

These new instances in the living story are NOT ‘hardcore’. I soloed them with my lvl 80 ranger. Don’t have a lvl 80? No problem, it scales you up to lvl 80. Essentially that means if your character is a lvl 5, when you walk into the instance you will become a lvl 80… though, your weapons armor and abilities would still be lvl 5, so probably not a good idea. I suppose you should still be a lvl 30+ before going in… and if its still hard at lvl 30, then bring a party, you should be able to complete the instances with moderate to easy difficulty.

Bummer to hear that even the living story requires an 80…I’ve got 5 chars one 40, others early 30s. Hehe I can’t do an 80 with a 40, I have to work hard doing the personal stories sometimes. Game seems to be getting harder, I seem to have to run away more often, seem to limp a lot, and seem to move slower overall.

Old age sucks.

Sjacie—I’m not obsessing over gold for gold’s sake, I just need to be able to buy the 1 gold, level 40 book for my chars, get bags with more slots, and buy some bank space.

I’ve almost quit playing just because it is too much trouble trying to find room for stuff…you come online, see an hour’s work just to get a little room that lasts about 30 min, then you log off and play a game that’s less work and more fun. I really hate the concept of pay to win, I feel like I just cheated, as well as being foolish, anytime I spend real money for game items I should earn through playing.

and gold is not hard to make in this game.

Perhaps for upper levels on chars that have been here since launch, but I started after Christmas and this is by far the stingiest game for gold for lower levels I have seen, and been playing these MMORPGs since EQ (15 years?), played or betaed most of the major ones, often with multiple accounts. Perhaps it’s ok if you don’t tradeskill, and sell all you gather, but I always do tradeskills.

4 of my chars are in low 30s and One hit 40 and I barely had the gold for the 40 level book, and won’t have the bucks for the 4 coming up. I hear the upper levels have so much gold it’s obscene, perhaps they made it harder just before I started. Haven;t tried the group or wvw yet, maybe all the money is there.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s lots of fun, great innovations everywhere. perhaps this is just for hardcore younguns who started at launch or you need to be a gold buyer type. This is the first one I’ve seen where gold is buyable from a store come to think of it.

It’s been many years since GW1, but if I remember right, you could fill out your group by hiring NPCs to do dungeons…and it seemed to work fairly well.

I used to be a big time grouper and raider (big guild in EQ1 and few others like WoW and such). But as I’ve gotten older, I simply emjoy a slower pace than the hardcore seem to insist on these days…..they act as if you violated their mother if you cost them 30 seconds.

Soooo…why not have reduced difficulty dungeons and the use of hired NPCs to fill out the group? It would still be far harder than a hardcore kin waltzing through content for the umptenth time.

If you would just consider having the new dailies doable by new folks they would be fine…the old ones could be done by new players and I enjoyed them, these you don’t even know where the areas are they are talking about. then you ask and find out they are for upper levels. I havent been able to do more than 4 of 5 of these new ones, old ones were great.

It seems counter-productive to program for hardcore only, there is a natural attrition to any game and if you get the reputation for being a game that is too hard to start this late in, you are programming a very short life into the game….servers get slow, then slower, then die.

Honestly how is it hard to get the 5 new ones done? If anything it’s easier. I’m sorry but I have to reject the notion that the current daily is “hardcore only” in any way. It sounds like people just don’t want to put in minimal effort to complete it.

The first 5 on today’s list:
Aquatic Slayer
Krytan killer
Gatherer
Events
Condition applier.

EACH one of these can be done at any level, by anyone, easily.

What is a Krytan killer and where is it?
Events…doesn’t it list a particular place? Where is that place?
What is a Condition applier?

Yeah, the devs seem to have “slow them down” as a mindset because of the hardcore gobbling content so fast…sadly the result is that normal players have this huge mountain in front of them which makes them wish they had saved their 60 bucks and spent it on a game that is a little more fun and a little less “challenging” or time-consuming, where you never hit a brick wall. New players can’t even complete the new dailies, they don’t have 5 that are doable for newer folks.

The normal players will not feel good about themselves if too much failure and they will quit. There are no where near enough hardcore fanatics to keep any game running without the money of the casuals, thank God.

Sure you can wear as many MF you want but i wanna know about it when iam in party with those leechers. I dont know why do we see such an useless stat like Achieve. points i get this game is about skins so inspect is probably out of table but some tab with basic stats would be nice.
Few days ago me and my 2 freinds went for 36 daily so i made post on lfg and some war and ranger came, later we find out they are wearing MF becase when we asked which armor they have (We were suspicious after a while. There were down too much and it was waaaay too slow) and they linked us completely different armor then they were wearing in short our 36lvl fractal run was long like 48lvl run it was just crazy slow.
Sure for ppl who are doing 1-2 runs per day anyway, they dont mind if it takes 2x long but the rest of us who are looking for fast and smooth runs are seriously gimped by those leechers. You might say i had fast and smooth runs in full MF set, well thats possible but trust me it wasnt because of the MF gear….

This is the only reason why I usually prefer solo these days …. these hardcore, rude types, hurry, hurry you slackers, ltp, gotta get the loot NOW-types are too much stress for a nice evening of questing.

I’ve done all the soloable requirements but one for this month and haven’t even seen a dungeon so I assume that group play doesn’t kick in for a while… heh, today’s the last day and I’m out of luck….but just doing dailies will take forever to get enough to get something….but I’m enjoying doing them and usually have enough time to complete the dailies.

It seems like it would be good business to allow flexibility for this one system so it is doable by solos and casuals…always better to keep as many as long as you can. I accept that since you’re going hardcore, the casual’s days are numbered, but that would maybe keep a few a lot longer.

Does anyone else feel a sense of dread when you find out that the party member who has already died 3x in the first room of the dungeon is running MF gear?

I feel like MF gear should effect the entire party’s loot tables, because as it stands now…. in my honest opinion, anyone running MF stats is just leeching off of everyone else.

Everyone contributes in killing the enemy.
The player running MF gear is dealing less dmg/healing less/etc.
player with MF gear (potentially) gets better loot than everyone else.

If the entire party’s loot tables were effected, this would completely eliminate any animosity toward players running MF gear, and it would make it fair to all players.

With the addition of the new infusions and amulets, I feel like more and more people will be running MF and GF instead of getting useful stats, and this was secretly the intention of Anet all along.

+4power or +20MF?

“What difference does 4 power make? I’ll take the MF”

Most players are going to be choosing the MF or GF…. and I will be choosing one that actually contributes to my character’s stats.

I avoid players who run MF gear as much as I can. Unfortunately for me, and everyone with my mentality…. the current MF system is player based… and the only way to change my feelings is to make it party-wide!

I’m new and only solo so far and recently started using a little mf to try to get a little good gear, so take this with a grain of salt.
Isn’t the purpose of doing those too-hard-to-be-fun group things to get loot? Betcha 80% would do an easier solo if they could get the same loot. Sooooooo….shouldn’t your complaint be about whatever you’re doing is too hard, since your buddy has died 3 times at the beginning?

From looking at upcoming new stuff and the frequent use of the word “challenging” as the main selling point, I’d say the game will have little use for casual players within a couple of months.

In all things, some will be happy, some will be sad…the devs really can’t straddle the fence for long. What I’d like to see is completely separate worlds for those that want “challenging”….but I kinda doubt many would actually use them…maybe one challenging world for every 6 normal ones, because EVERYBODY takes the easy, quick route if there is one as long as the loot is the same.

Ascended was put in to be a time sink. If it were easily accessible, it would not be a time sink. If this were changed to make getting it less time consuming, people would then be complaining about nothing to do. It’s going to take me 4 months of non-grindy play to amulet-ize my 4 80’s. It would then take me another 8-9 months of non-grindy play to ring them. Another year to accessorize the other 4 who are still en route to 80. Two years of reason to log in. What, exactly, is wrong with having long-term goals? Oh, right, that might require the cultivation of patience.

Well, ’m new but I feel there should be SOME limits to grind, if you, who are obviously hard-core, (which means long hours of intense play daily) would take that long to get what you need…it means someone who only plays an average amount of laid-back time daily would take a decade to get…which is a bit extreme for both of you…and if a new guy looks and sees it would take a decade to get decent gear, he is probably going to move along as soon as another game comes out unless he enjoys spending a small fortune in the store speeding his advancement up.

Me, I wish we set our expectations higher on what we spend our gaming dollars and time on and require that extremely little repeated content be considered acceptable.

We have strange concepts of what is worth what….we spend $60 for what took a couple million bucks and years to make to make, then spend $10 at regular intervals in the store for something that took 10 minutes to “make” to save us some of the ridiculous grind to get stuff in the game we paid $60 for.

Anwar.2018

I’m a casual player. I have noticed that this game is evolving in a way that is making it harder for casuals to complete content. Too bad. Why is that?

The devs were all hardcore over-achievers as players. All their friends are the same. Hardcore content is what devs enjoy showing off to other devs at conventions. Hardcore players brag about how something is too easy. Most people having trouble are too embarrassed to say anything on forums, they just quit.

From the devs point of view and from the point of view of their friends, hardcore content is what they end up believing is what everybody wants, and besides hardcore content has a long “lifespan”.

Besides that, Hardcore content is just plain more fun to make. There is something sadistically satisfying in designing a jump requireing a perfect computer with a perfect mouse, perfect reactions, zero lag, and only workable from only one little bitty takeoff point…and watch the suckers fall over and over.

“Challenge” is only fun if you end up winning.

JOSH I understand you are responsible for all the jumping.

I hate you.

Since when does jumping have anything to do with MMORPGs for the PC? Jumping seems to be a console type thing to do…like mario bros. or whatever.

I don’t mind the finding the way to get to where I want to to go, I hate those very few jumps that I just plain cant jump far enough or high enough or turn ….. they have ruined an otherwise great game for me and you would be surprised how many quit over the too hard jumps. I realize you don’t really care since all your hardcore twitch buddies can do them. I realize no loss to your company, no monthly fee and you got your $60 bucks, but maybe a little rethink on a few of the individual jumps in some of these jumping quests should be reconsidered.

“Challenge” is only fun if you win.

Hi OP: great advice in this thread.
I understand how you feel since I am an older gamer with no co-ordination and a fear of heights- my stomach still knots whenever I think of Dredgehaunt cliffs.
When I leveled my first char I did so with my husband and he would jump like a gazelle and I would die- so many times that I rage quit like a kid.

Imagine how embarrassing it is to have a mesmer who can’t jump- once I had to ask another mesmer to port me.

I had a lot of camera clipping issues where my view got stuck or would shake so that did not make it any easier.

Al last because I was so very bummed out I asked my husband to do a hard vista for me and he noticed that he can’t do it on my pc either- long and short of it he replaced my mouse and all my troubles went away.

I am not a great jumper by any stretch but I have now done 4 actual jumping puzzles just because I could and I don’t stress out as much at all.
Atm I am soloing Dregdehaunt Cliffs on my Engi and so far so good

You do get better as you practice- that is all I can ad- and look at your mouse, maybe you can benefit by a change

MY mouse IS very old, a basic battery one from back when the cordless just came out many years a go, and sometimes there does seem to be a hesitaton…
what kind of mouse did you get?

This proves that the only folks that should play a game are those that were very early to start and are very, very hardcore. You gotta get the only good stuff early before it’s made impossible. You gotta get all the money you can before they slow things down so you need the store, and you gotta spend lots and lots in the store right away so you can breeze through crafting and early levels. The key is to max very, very quickly after launch or don’t waste your time.

Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing….

Those that join late should just turn off chat so they can ignore what the heroes get and enjoy the leveling game for as long as it is reasonably fun and then move on to a new game when it gets too hard to be fun. You can usually get your money’s worth before that happens.

I’m getting too old for these games I guess, just spent hours trying to get the skill point and vista for Breached Wall, finally got the skill point and missed the last jump.

I’m worn out, I feel I wasted $60 Christmas and worse, wasted hours on a Saturday night. MMORPGs have been my favorite type of games for many years. But the stores have ruined them, probably something in there that lets you jump further.

My conclusion is that an overly difficult jumping quest is not fun..not even a little bit….it’s just frustrating …and if the quests are this hard at level 25, there’s no way I’ll be able to play to whatever top level is. (BTW did you guys just do something that cripples you if a mob sneezes on you?)

Well, whatever dev designed that…pat yourself on the back if your purpose was to drive away anyone without that good ol’ hardcore twitch. Guess you showed me. This kind of difficulty is why I don’t play FPS. Well, I’ll go play a RT strategy game…love those, all thinking, no jumping….and try this again if I upgrade my system, it may be my computer is getting old too.

dungeons are not difficult. They just need to be learned…3 runs on any path and you should understand exactly how to approach it.

3 runs (minimum, probably means double that…or more…. these games usually make everything harder by closing exploits and “adjusting challenge” as time goes on) a group of noobs spending hours of repeats to learn something is not fun, if you have started the game late…or you finally find an experienced group, inform them that you’re a virgin and you’re kicked, because they are looking for a quick run for some particular loot. Naw, just make this one system for everyone….have an alternate something that newbies and non-hardcore can do to complete the monthlies.

Easiest Monthly Dungeon?

Newbie here. I no longer enjoy too much difficulty or too long a session (I’m in my 60s) used to raid and group a lot, was very hardcore, but now just really enjoying this game and love how you can just jump in and help to add to your solo in this game.

I want to finish the monthly, but it has a dungeon requirement. I’ve never come across one. My top char is about 35, second highrest about 24, rest around 16.

So which dungeon should I look for that needs the least people (solo preferred) and the least demanding of twitch? and what’s the lowest level that can do it?

I’m a newbie. like crafting usually, but just no info in one place…I need all info…from starting to leveling to legendaries? (I think they are crafted) to some super forge I saw in chat. I’ve made a couple recipes but still don’t know what goes in the fourth slot in discoveries.

Where is a place where crafting is explained? Is there a section for pure info somewhere or s there a decent crafting website somewhere? tried the search, seems not very good.
