Team Riot [RIOT] – Blackgate
http://www.youtube.com/aodhnitola - http://www.twitch.tv/aodhnitola
I urge you all to either play a thief or practice against them with a friend or something.
Its actually quite easy to beat a d/d thief but you do need to know how to counter them.
If a warrior hits his fury+100b combo something will die. People learned to dodge it, avoid being bursted, and now look who’s still qqing about them; bad players only.
Same will happen with d/d thief, and maybe even with eles once (if) they fix d/d.
Just for fun.
There’s no point in coming on here to make excuses, so I won’t. Blackgate doesn’t have 100% coverage and we know it. T2 and T1 play differently, as many of us found out on Friday. We’re all glad to be here and want to make this match as fun for our enemies as it has been for us. Hopefully we’ll be in this tier for a couple of weeks and once everyone adjusts to the way things happen here we’ll close the score gap and maybe even get a color change. Good luck to everyone, have fun.
I agree with the useful in WvW comment, as most glass cannon backstab thieves don’t do much in-between kills. I personally use a S/D balanced build and will jump to the back of a group and try to cause some commotion. I don’t get a bunch of instagibs like some guys, but if 3-5 guys are chasing shadows while I immobilize/daze my parties target then that’s 4-6 guys that aren’t hitting my team. That being said, I’m below average.
Was probably something similar to this.
I would never use this build but it was entertaining to watch. +1 for mortal kombat.
I have that problem some times after using certain movement abilities on all of my classes. It seems they get “stuck” in the world and I can’t move/cast/dodge/etc. Sometimes I can use the same ability again to unstick, sometimes I have to log out and back in. Not sure how to prevent it at all.
I like the editing in that video, it was well done.
Edit: The video disappeared!
Post was moved from another thread directing it to this one.

The rating system is what really drives servers to choose who to fight. Red server gains the most points by lowering Green’s score. It’s all about point spread. Red will gain rating even if they come in third place as long as their score is close to Green’s.
Sounds like you got tagged by a power spec rifle engineer.
It’s always nice to see another DPS Guardian in WvW. I only saw Renewed Focus once but was sad you didn’t blow all 3 virtues during the cast time. Otherwise good fights, I too love my GS+Hammer.
Anyone else reading this, know that thieves are one of the easiest classes to kill. It takes one dodge and one immobilize/knockdown/blowback/daze/stun to completely shut them down.
Also know that it’s coming from someone who plays a Thief. So take that message with an entire truck load of salt.
This thread has turned from something quasi-positive into a bickering argument between us. I’d rather keep that off the forums so if you really feel the need to continue attacking my statements do it through PMs please.
My statement of thieves dying is coming from a thief player. I make mistakes often and get blown up for them. That’s a truth coming from experience. Also, guardians eat thieves for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Culling is being removed completely. Dev posted not long ago that all characters on the map you are in will be loaded simultaneously. There is no reason to adjust stealth or revealed one way or another.
I feel that stealth is in a good place on it’s own, and this would hurt thieves more than anything. Stealth is something achieved actively not passively, and should stay that way. Also, Daecollo is very correct.
None of that works on P/D? If they can’t stealth they do literally no damage. Even if they DO stealth they are so easy to beat it’s funny. One condition removal will beat 80% of P/D thieves. You seem to forget that a good player on ANY class will beat most people. I can run and reset a fight with any of my characters, that’s not exclusive to thieves.
Right, because bleeds can’t be reapplied and condition removals aren’t on cool downs and once you’re unstealthed none of your 1 – 5 abilities work anymore (really? “literally no damage”? :P ). Also, Thieves aren’t one of the highest mobility classes in the game and can catch up to anyone outside maybe a D/D ele.
This conversation has gotten to the point of being surreal.
I’m giving up on you, there is no convincing someone that utterly believes they’ve been wronged in some way.

This argument is ridiculous. “I haven’t played a thief and I don’t know what they can do, but since they kill me they should be nerfed” It’s a stealth class, of course you can’t see what they are doing. That’s the entire point. It’s really not hard to understand and I’ll tell you exactly how to beat them. Ready?
They will stealth. Either use a long CD utility, their heal, or they will hit you with CnD. Learn to count to 3 because after 3 seconds you’re going to get hit. Here’s the big secret: DODGE. It’s really easy. Press your dodge button on 3 and watch as the thief comes out of stealth and does 0 damage! Now hit him twice and press F stomp him. Congrats, you killed your first thief.
Downed state is great for PvE and even adds a level of team play to sPvP, but should be removed from WvW. There is no incentive to attack a larger force because even if you jump them in a perfect ambush, most of your team will die trying to “stake” the downed players. Remove downed state and you’ll see a lot of zergs breaking off into smaller strike teams to take objectives, run decoys, and ambush larger groups.
Reviving dead players should still exist, but should only be possible while outside of combat. Can’t change your skill bar? Can’t revive your friend.
Please make a thief, run that build, and get stomped. The skill required to play thief is low, sure, but that’s true for most classes. It’s ignorant to say that the skill ceiling is low though.
No, what takes skill is actually being able to beat a Thief, even a terrible one. Now you go spend all your time leveling up another class, maybe Engineer, so you can see where you’re ignorant.
I play Guardian, Mesmer, and Ranger with no problem. Thief whines will never end.
These statements are incorrect. The only reason at all that size may factor in is LoS on smaller hills.
Good video, but you should put some music in next time. All I could hear was your blender, and it sounds broken. On a more serious note, I have no right to question anyone’s musical taste, my last video has Vanilla Ice in it :P
A better thread would have highlighted a class that takes some actual skill to play well. Maybe “best ranger”, “best necro” or “best engineer”. At the very least a class you can actually see for any length of time. Not a class like this where, as a pistol/dagger thief you can just spam 1 and 5, stealth at will, escape at will, all with zero skill needed.

I’ve seen a huge variety of skill out of enemy thieves. Most of them run a P/D or D/D build they found on a website and panic when their standard rotation fails but I’ve seen a few really good thieves in the past few weeks. The people claiming there is no skill required are just outright incorrect. That being said, the best thief I’ve played against lately was a shortbow thief on TC I believe it was. I didn’t expect the fight he gave me. For reference I play a balanced S/D build.
Aodh will be providing us a video of his Ranger killing Thieves constantly. I can’t wait!
I’ll start collecting clips.
I see it as more of a call to people who like WvW but haven’t found a guild yet, not so much trying to draw whole guilds from other servers.
Responded to a post that got deleted.
I love how this forum can turn any thread into a whine fest over thieves. “Tief 2 ez plz nurf anet!” is getting real old. It doesn’t matter though, people will always complain about things that beat them. I play a Thief, but I also play a Guardian, Mesmer, and ranger. I have no problem with thieves.
P/D is incredibly boring and should be looked at a bit, but seriously removing the bleed shuts it down. Every kill I saw in that video just let the bleed tick them to death.
The thing is, it doesn’t matter the class. Whatever is killing people will always be cried about here. They could remove Thieves tomorrow and guess what? Elementalist 2 OP!!!!1!. Dey can getz away from any person and no die!!!1one!. It will never end.
Figured I should mention I play a non-glass S/D build, as to not incur the wrath of the anti-thief squad.
People arguing that Mesmers aren’t useless at attacking a keep/tower have clearly not played Mesmer after the LoS “fix”. Not only did they make it so you can’t hit things on walls now, the Mesmer’s LoS seemingly comes from their feet and won’t hit anyone if their feet are obstructed. I can see a defender from the knees up and still be obstructed. What kind of crap is that? No other class suffers during an offensive siege like the Mesmer.
Defense is a bit different, as you can land most all of your attacks with a GS from a wall, but that’s it.
Stealth is perfectly fine. Culling is already being sorted out and will not exist much longer.
As a relatively nameless player on Blackgate, I have to say fighting SoR/TC has been tons of fun. [RIOT] doesn’t usually field a huge number of players, generally 5-10, but we’ve managed to find some really good PvP in guilds like [Choo] and [P1NK](spelling?). I’m glad we got a chance to play against you folks and I hope you will have the same feelings about us when we go our separate ways.
War is war and it’s never pretty. But in reality this is a game and the players are allowed to show each other respect and be civil. Best of luck to everyone, have fun.
I’m quite happy with Smokee on the SoR borderland for Blackgate. Also, Boulderbolg never turns his icon on but always makes very sound decisions and leads a group well. No reason to troll or flame in a thread like this, it was started with a positive attitude. I will say however that this type of thread would be better placed on individual server sub-forums (that we don’t have cough).

Accidentally posted that early, can’t seem to find an edit button so excuse the double post.
Yes most of the enemies were not 80 and no they were not coordinated. Yes, staff eles have ridiculous AoE and tons of combo fields. Had they not used the fields so well together I doubt that fight would have happened. I do think that one good thief/Mesmer/etc could have ripped them up, but that didn’t happen.
All of the people saying that the video is not impressive should post up one of them doing it. Shouldn’t be a problem since you seem to think it’s so easy. Y
Really good fights this week, keep it up ladies and gents. Good luck on reset.
I’ve been noticing things since the Nov. 15th patch and would like a bit of feedback from the Guardian community.
•Fixed a bug that caused many piercing, boomerang, and bouncing projectiles (those that hit more than 1 target) to continually increase in damage the more targets they hit.
I’ve noticed lately, a lot, that my Whirling Wrath seems to hit for half the damage it did before this patch. For the last month almost I’ve just assumed it was people getting smarter and bringing more toughness, but then I started noticing the trend in PvE also. I remembered this change and thought that since this skill hits multiple enemies multiple times that it may in fact be suffering from this change. iBerserker was confirmed as affected by devs in a Mesmer thread, detailing the exact same issue. My question to you folks is have you noticed similar damage drops? In my gear-trait setup I went from doing 6-8k for a full spin to now 3-4k. Feedback would be great, thanks.
The other issue I’ve had is a lot more straight forward. The auto attack on the 1H Sword is amazing, but the third hit in the chain does not seem to be able to hit stationary objects. By stationary I mean things like siege, doors, graveling burrows, etc. The first two attacks hit fine, but the third just swings the animation and misses completely before attempting the animation again. Of course the second animation also misses, but the attack string starts back at one after the second miss. I’ve said something in /team a few times but never got any feedback, so I’m just trying to confirm if anyone else has had the issue.
