The April 30 patch seemed to do a lot to make pets more reliable and I did notice it, but it seems like the May patch completely reverted it. My experience is almost entirely WvW (Where skill lag does seem to be fixed even when I get rolled by the 500 man zerg) and it seems like my pet just doesn’t want to do anything I tell it. Even holding still I have to try 2-3 times to get it to cast without interrupting itself.

I always viewed birds as a burst pet and cats as a consistent pet. Which bird do you think does the most dps if you dont pet swap and use F2 CD reduction? Owl with chill or raven for the big hit? Pets would have perma swiftness btw. I like cats but i think the 130 range auto attack really hurts and birds have a 300 one.

In my experience with pets (and I’m pretty sure this was tested recently) Canine pets have the most constant/stable dps. They don’t hit as hard but they stick on their targets a lot better than my cats/birds ever have. But to answer your question I was partial to the Snow Owl.

If jump puzzle was a reward it should be accessed from SM only.
I use the same build for WvW and PvE. It’s a longbow/greatsword toughness setup. Full knights armor, cavalier’s accessories, and at the moment ruby orbs instead of runes. Barrage and rapid fire with piercing arrows often kills whole packs of mobs with no trouble. I would recommend the polar bear and drakehound for that as both do really well to keep them in the AoE.
One of the most important things to remember as a roaming ranger is to utilize your steal- wait that’s not right.. Save your shadowste- hrm. But in all seriousness when you’re fighting 1v1 especially against thieves you need to wait for them to come to you. Counterattack is amazing against a thief that doesn’t know the animation.

I’m guessing it was the huge transfer that woke it up. People just can’t be quiet.
Had a lot of fun last night in a 3-server group. Couple of us in [RIOT] invited and ran around with a thief from TC and a Mesmer from Kaineng. Was interesting trying to keep our zerg from murdering them, but I did worry about the fourth server complaining about a triple-team.
You son of a Hutt! I’ve been gathering clips for like two weeks now to make a [RIOT] 2v20 video where ~20 of us zerg roll 1-3 guys and now you ruined it for me.
I feel like I should explain the comment I made at the end of the video. This was the third time I had run into that player that night, the first two times being me vs 3 TC. He was doing the same thing in both of those fights and then started throwing them when he got in trouble the third time when it was 1v1.
I’m usually a pretty nice guy, and don’t generally berate other players, but I was pretty hot after that.

It’s a bug and has been reported. I’d rather not blast it everywhere and have less-than-classy thieves abusing this.
Please don’t start the 2v1 thing. I’ve been in WvW every night this week and can tell you JQ and SoS have fought each other just as often as they’ve each fought with us at BG. I’ve even stolen a few stomps in the big JQ vs SoS fights.
I feel like I should come back in here and clarify what I meant. I don’t think anyone has misunderstood what I said and I’m glad, but here goes.
I don’t feel like filling empty time slots is bad, I honestly wish this would happen. I want every server to have equal 24/7 coverage. What I am finding hard to digest is the amount of guilds all moving to the same 2 servers, effectively making it a 1v1 while the red server just derps about for a week before getting back to a good fight in T2. Nobody is going to listen to me and that’s fine, this isn’t even a real complaint.
I have a dream. Where all servers and all guilds are equal in numbers and coverage. That will never happen in 24 servers, but if the top 4 tiers (12 servers) were to fill up evenly you’d see a lot more skill/tactic based Glicko movement and fun matches in each tier. The issue with everyone going to T1 is honestly making it the least fun tier to play in, which isn’t right. It should be an accomplishment and feel great to get to tier 1 (That is, without transferring to it).
I want to be a part of a server that has earned a spot in Tier 1 (I am, yay), but I would never transfer off to SoS or JQ (or any other t1 server in the future) just because my server dropped a tier or two. I just feel that if your guild is truly competitive you should be picking a server based on creating fun matches and playing to earn your spot in whichever tier should be the priority, not hopping to a server that is already proven it can hang there.
TL;DR
I have not lost any respect for the guilds hopping into JQ and SoS and I’m sure they think what they are doing is best for their guild’s longevity. I just feel that a competitive top 3-4 tiers would extend the life of WvW more than one mega tier that rules them all. Again, no disrespect or harm intended, only sharing my opinion on the matter.

I completely agree. 100%. And like I mentioned before, I’d love them to take it further and auto-waypoint you after being dead for x amount of time.
Was an interesting video for sure, was fun to watch. Yes, the zerg was bad and just 2-3 smart players getting behind them would have screwed that entire fight. As for the AoE damage, it does need to be toned down a bit. Single target damage should always be higher than AoE, but if Elementalists want to give up having arguably the best support/utility for a group then they can keep the damage. It should be one or the other, and right now Ele’s have a bit too much of both. Being very squishy does make up for a majority of it and in my mind the changes would be very minimal to staff, so please don’t take that as they should be nerfed into the ground. I do however feel that D/D is too good right now and should be toned a bit. I’m fine with the AoE damage, I’m fine with the mobility, and I’m even fine with the utility and how hard they can be to kill. I’m just not fine with them having all of that at the same time.
Speaking of being insulting. I’m not really sure why there is a debate in the first place. It seems everyone agrees that camping corpses is lame and un-fun but it’s not the fault of any class in particular but the system put in place for dead players.
I don’t feel like I’ve insulted anyone. I’m simply saying that thieves are not the hideous OP monsters that this forum makes them out to be. Anet themselves mentioned that the only problem with stealth is newer players not knowing how to deal with it. This thread isn’t about thieves though, is it? The OP was upset that someone, just happens to be a thief, resurrected a Mesmer that used portal to take a keep. Therein lies the issue. Not stealth, not thieves, not portal or mesmers, but the fact that corpses can just sit there for hours. People have complained about corpse scouts since the beginning and it’s already been said that it’s being looked into. That’s the answer to your problem, and to this thread.

That’s not the problem. Long duration stealth is currently possible by spamming C&D on a wall piece as it does not always apply “revealed” as it should.
That is a bug I’m sure and will hopefully be dealt with soon, but even that still leaves the stealth animation. They have to use the CnD at least every 4 seconds so it’s not that hard to spot. Corpses being auto-released after 5 minutes or so would be best in every situation. Not only would it stop corpse scouting and major zergs being able to resurrect everyone after a fight, it will also stop this sort of thief/Mesmer portal relationship.

Culling is the server’s way of limiting characters rendered to the client machine. I believe the number in WvW was said to be 40 at some point. In a 30v30 zerg fight only 40 people will be rendered at any given time, meaning that if a Thief, Mesmer, Engineer, or any other class goes stealth, the next guy in line renders and the person that went invis is now being culled. In fights that are 1v1, 5v5, or even 10v10 in open fields there is no culling happening.
The word itself has been so incorrectly used in this community that many people don’t realize that it only happens in larger fights. I have fought tons of thieves and never had an issue outside of large fights. Most people that die to a thief 1v1 complain about “culling” as a way to convince themselves they weren’t beaten fairly. Watch for the black swirly animation and you’ll see exactly where they are.
-1 server that doesn’t check a keep. There is no such thing as perma stealth. Every time a thief re-stealths there is a nice swirly black animation.
I’m amazed at all of the posts defending all of these major transfers into SoS/JQ. I’m not upset if Blackgate moves down a server, so don’t take this the wrong way but… People keep mentioning this “goal” of being in a Tier 1 server. What good is a goal if you don’t accomplish it yourself? Moving a guild to an already #1/#2 server is like buying a legendary from the TP. Someone mentioned how horrible it would be to transfer a whole guild to Blackgate only to have them move down to Tier 2. What came next was amazing. “They’d have to spend real money to move back to tier 1”. Are you kidding me? What happened to playing the game and actually EARNING a T1 spot?
If these major guild’s real goal is to be part of a Tier 1 server maybe they should earn it. I’m going to say one more time here so nobody gets the wrong idea: I play on Blackgate. I don’t care if I’m in T1, T2, or T8. As long as there are people to play against I’m happy.
D/D ele whining about anything else aside, 2600 armor is pretty low. If the thief was glass enough to do that kind of damage through your army of buffs, one hit would have killed it. This is a L2P issue.
As for the OP, 14k backstabs only come from hyper-glass thieves on people under 80 with no toughness. Frenzy is a kitten.

Pets eating AoE is the only benefit of playing a ranger though

It’s good to see condition builds other than P/D. It’s amazing how many people go into WvW without condition removal, but good job covering your bleeds.
tl;dr: Thieves are in no way OP. They are EXTREMELY annoying, I will agree. But if you learn how to actually combat them, they aren’t as extreme of an issue

High mobility? Yes, kind of the point of the class. Do you complain about Guardians having high defense?
Insane burst? On one skill sure, but if you spec for this you die to every other random pbAoE.
Spammable gap closers and “get out free” cards? One or the other, ever heard of initiative? Guardians can close a huge distance also.
Thieves. Oh how fun they are to talk about.
Thieves are actually in a good place right now. Cluster bomb, pistol whip, and heartseeker have all been lowered to an appropriate level of damage from when they were actually too strong. Now people only complain about stealth. If you want to see me while I’m stealthed then I want a giant neon sign that says what you’re going to do before you do it also. It’s not fair that I can get updrafted by an ele and be knocked down for 3 seconds. If you can see me while stealthed I want to be able to move while knocked down.
On a serious note, I do believe thieves are in a good spot right now. I think the gameplay can be rewarding and at the same time there is a lot of risk to really make it fun. My only complaint is with the #3 on almost every dual hand set. Flanking Strike is just kinda… Flanking Strike. Death Blossom doesn’t get used much at all as it’s a waste of initiative and only seen as a backup dodge if absolutely necessary. And Unload… poor Unload.
I’m glad that thieves no longer seem to have a one button spam set and I do find myself using every skill on my bar (except #3 most times).
Want to combat a thief? Look at what your skills do. Every class has something that can combat a thief. .
Which class gets the “See Stealth” skill?
Guardian, Necro, Ranger, and everyone else with an auto attack chain.
honestly this is the best I have seen the forums been in a while. The amount of trash talk when BG was here was unbelievable…… SBI and TC have really great sportsmanship, I prefer being in any tiers with great sportsmanship than on tiers with people who decide to laugh at you after fighting 5v1 or how saying doubleteaming in wvw is strategy but start complaining how its unfair when they hit tier 1, its laughable honestly…(its about time someone put bg in their place)

Following the T1 thread, BG is getting a lot of flak for their poor tactics on EB. A few posters mentioned they were fighting like they never fought in EB before, haha. Was pretty funny but dead on accurate assessment as they pretty much had free reign at T2 here.
I actually came in this thread to see how T2 matchup was doing and have found a whole lot of people still slinging mud at Blackgate. That’s pretty disheartening as most of us felt we left T2 on a positive note. Blackgate may not be doing as well as they did in T2 but who honestly expected them to roll face in T1? We sure didn’t.
It’s good to see a nice matchup in T2 though, good luck to all you guys. I’m rooting for SoR, was always good times fighting you guys.

Its actually quite easy to beat a d/d thief but you do need to know how to counter them.
If a warrior hits his fury+100b combo something will die. People learned to dodge it, avoid being bursted, and now look who’s still qqing about them; bad players only.
Same will happen with d/d thief, and maybe even with eles once (if) they fix d/d.Just for fun.
You’re absolutely right, the only problem with thieves is already written in my original post; Culling. Without it thieves are actually pretty easy to beat, unless you’re underleveled or full glass cannon and you don’t pay attention or didn’t bring any defensive abilities.
Which is another concern, d/d eles need to bring 3 stunbreakers because if they get held in place for more then 2 seconds they’re (even with full tanky gear/ traits) dead meat. And people QQ abou this even!!! Saying that having 3 stun breakers is OP… well guess what, EVERY profession has 3 -4 stunbreakers, just the fact that YOU are not FORCED to equip all 3 of them doesn’t mean that you can’t.
I agree with you pretty much completely. Culling will not exist as they have already said they are removing that part of the system in WvW so that will be a non-issue soon, hopefully. Poor Rangers only have 2 stun breaks

Absolutely the yak should be harder for a single person to kill when defended. I’ve soloed yaks on thief while 5-10 people aoe’d wildly trying to defend (I stopped doing that, it feels like cheating).
As long as players are alive inside the “defend” event area and/or npc guards are alive, the yak should have the “righteous indignation” buff or something similar. The yak should also be hostile (if that can be accomplished without it straying far from it’s route) or the npc guards should have more CC/damage/hp.
I like the idea of a sentry style ring around the yak also. Maybe the more players inside the circle up to 5 increase yak’s hp/defense/regen/etc? That way a player escorting a yak will actually have a chance to defend it without the yak being unkillable.
This is a great idea. As a Yak sniper I +1 the idea of having to kill the guards first. Killing the yak is way too easy for any class, even with people hitting you.
True I see that SBI isn’t doing much in T2 atm. BG has been very impressive and it has brought allot to the fight, but the timing and the places they move their zerg make you shake your head at times…. Especially in EB….
I think you’re right, but as a server we’re still growing and learning. T2 was a different beast and honestly, we got spoiled. Blackgate won a lot of weeks in a row and by a good amount each time. I was afraid of this happening and it seems like I was right, but many of our players just got used to doing whatever because it didn’t so much matter. T1 is a much harsher mistress and we’re learning that.
If Blackgate wants to stay in T1 we’re going to have to really change the way we play and adapt to the new style of warfare. I do believe we can do it, we have a lot of talented players and commanders. Are we the best? Obviously not. Are we going to keep trying to get there? I hope so!
There’s a lot of server pride in this thread and that’s fine, but being proud of your server doesn’t require belittling others. I play for Blackgate and I do think we have a great group of guys out there trying their best, but coming on these forums and seeing a bunch of bickering and name calling is kind of sad. Let’s keep things clean and have some fun. Yes, some people make stupid comments on the internet. Some people are too proud of their server and it turns into vain self admiration. Just remember that a majority of the players on a server are too busy trying to have fun to come on here and argue, so please don’t make assumptions or judge an entire server over a few odd posts.
This thread is ridiculous. Vapor Form would be perfect if you couldn’t go through the tower/keep gates with it. The movement provided to stop a stomp is annoying but thieves and mesmers can do it also. Yes, it goes a little further but you also see exactly where they are going. The only issue is being able to walk right into the tower after pulling pulled/downed outside. No other class can go in through the gate, even if they are touching it.
Mist Form is fine, it’s no different than elixir s, traited death shroud, endure pain, etc.
